Lyrically and musically the poems in The Call of Paradise seek to root their speaker in her story and heritage, moving deftly and poignantly along the faultlines. Sound and rhythm converge to make you want to feel the pleasure of reading them out loud, which I did.
I ended up wishing that this collection of poems was longer. Lyrically beautiful, informed by both East and West, and dense with the author's sensations - taste, smell, and touch. I also enjoyed the merging of the ancient and the modern. "... as I ran/through the hours men hide from. I hear it and re-wild:/the caress of arrows/the trashing of Actaeon/the trance music of 3am."
