This was an audiobook, but I had read the book years ago. Enjoyed and benefited from the audiobook just as much as back when I read it. Needed to refresh and having it read by Paula White Cain made it all the more beneficial.
Paula White. If you ignore her rebellion against the Word of God's admonition against a woman preaching to men (1 Timothy 2:12), ignore her omission of the Gospel in her book (save a brief reference to John 3:16 on page 188), ignore her belief that we give God "permission to do His work in the lives" of others, and ignore her focus on pop psychology solutions to the problems men and women face, then the book is a pretty good pep talk for people who are not believers but just want to feel good about themselves and not face their sin and need for repentance. Unfortunately, though, the book is #forhereticalresearchonly .
I have to admit that I’ve become a “self-help book snob”, and while I found that I didn’t hate the book, I honestly didn’t love it either. While Paula White is a world-renowned minister and life coach, I really couldn’t get inspired by her words. I think that the problem was that I found her to be more inclined to talk about the traumas of others, but then gloss over her own. While she may feel that she is healed, and very well may be, I find that the best inspiration comes from those who “rip open” their own old wounds and speak about how they dealt with them. Personally, I found Ms. White to be rather off-putting because she was not willing to open herself up.
I love Paula White ministries and this book was simply wonderfully written. As a Sexual Abuse survivor and a fatherless child herself she teaches us how to find our healing and truth in the love of God.
I really enjoyed this book. She has a lot of insight for women who may have experienced trauma of some sort or sexual abuse, because she lived through those times in her own life.
