Still haunted by his past, the last thing Butch wants is someone from that past intruding into his present. But what if Sol is exactly what he needs?
Butch Buchanan has spent his life trying to forget the stuff he did when he was an asshole teenager. He’s also spent most of his fifty-two years on this planet convincing himself he’s straight. And the fact that he gets down and dirty with Salvation’s foreman whenever his itch needs scratching? Guys do that, right? Doesn’t make them gay or bi, right? Besides, Butch is always the top, so he’s definitely not gay. Right? But those nights aren’t about intimacy—they’re about steering him away from the dark chasm of his dreams. Only, it’s not working. The comfort and safety he’d found has become a rut, and the road ahead goes on and on, no divergence, just a straight run that seemed to be going nowhere. Middle of the road isn’t enough anymore.
Sol Davenport hasn’t seen Butch since high school, and his handsome face brings back memories of a Sol he’d rather forget—a Sol he left behind. Maybe Butch is avoiding him because he shares those same memories. Which is a pity, because Butch is even hotter now than he was back when Sol was firmly wedged in his closet. But a lot of things have happened since then, like the heartache he yearns to forget. A heartache he will keep far from his door. So he’s not about to let himself get entangled with a man who’d win the award for Gayest Straight Man. A man who doesn’t play his kind of games. Yet.
Change is coming to Salvation. A different kind of guest, new activities… Butch craves change, but is he ready for the collision that’s about to rock his world? There’s change waiting in the wings for Sol too—he just needs to be brave enough to accept it.
Two haunted men who need to exorcise their ghosts if they’re to have a chance of happiness.
Haunted is a slow-burn—and I do mean slow—bi-awakening, hurt-comfort story about discovering kink, found family, redemption, and learning to live again. It’s also about two men finding love—and a lot of firsts for one of them.
K.C. Wells lives on an island off the south coast of the UK, surrounded by natural beauty. She writes about men who love men, and can’t even contemplate a life that doesn’t include writing. The rainbow rose tattoo on her back with the words 'Love is Love' and 'Love Wins' is her way of hoisting a flag. She plans to be writing about men in love - be it sweet and slow, hot or kinky - for a long while to come.

This is a 100% of a case of it's me and not the book. It's apparently going to be an intense story with some angst and drama, and in all honesty, I just can't right now. I will definitely revisit this one. Hopefully soon when things calm down this will be one I'll check out.
A beautiful, unexpectedly tender love story that brings together two incredibly well-rounded MCs. I loved how the hurt/comfort storyline was written, so touching, and the slow-burn … just wow! Once they act on their attraction, the sensuality and heat is mesmerizing, but it is especially so because of the strength of the trust and emotional connection Sol and Butch share by then. Both of which grow stronger with every new step they take together. Consent and communication are crucial, and it’s at the heart of who these two are together. Butch and Sol are both mature men and they both have their baggage. I loved that they got to find love when neither of them was looking for it, or even considered it possible. They knew each other when they were teenagers and suddenly reconnect decades later. There’s quite a lot to unpack for them, and I loved how they moved forward after the initial shock wore off. Butch was a real surprise to me, talk about hidden layers. He’s been hiding so much pain. I really loved the glimpses into his past, learning how they shaped him, and the gradual, very natural way he blossomed into his true self. He shows such bravery in his journey of personal growth, opening up to Sol but also to his friends. When Butch shows his vulnerable side, it’s impossible not to love him. There is so much more to Butch than I had expected, and he’s my absolute favorite character in the series now. The worldbuilding and secondary characters in this series are amazing. I love how heartwarming it all feels, and how real all of these characters seem. Not perfect, not two-dimensional or cliché, but people who make mistakes, try and be better, who care, who come together to support each other… Add in the horses and ranch life and what more can a romance reader want ;-) BDSM is an important part of Sol’s life, but it’s a very new thing to Butch. I adored Sol for not rushing Butch into anything and for how gently he showed Butch how it could be between them. Most of the story deals with Butch’s coming-out journey and his bisexual awakening, though, and exploring new kinks does take a backseat. Sol seems less troubled than Butch, steadier—he knows who he is and lives his life on his terms—but he hides something too. A grievous loss that he has not completely healed from yet. Sol stumbles as he tries to navigate his 'lessons learned' from that loss with his feelings for Butch. The emotional intensity of the story rises to new heights with some angst-filled moments along the way, but Butch and Sol get the HEA they deserve! I love the Collars and Cuffs series, and this series has a lot of the same great aspects—a sense of community, a close-knit group of friends, acceptance, healing & hurt/comfort, amazing love stories of course—and I really think this new series might even surpass it. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
This story is simply beautiful. It's about self recognition and acceptance, coming out, laying ghosts to rest, about second chances. One man running from his past, his true sexuallity and perceived guilt, the other coping as well as he can with tremendous loss, both denying themselves of hope for something more and lasting. Don't be afraid to start it because of the length of it. Personally I would have read it in one sitting but the life got in the way. And second don't get put off by the BDSM aspect of it. If you are new to it or have any perceived notions about the lifestyle and dynamics especially based on 'videos' found on internet and some hardcore books - forget it and start with an open mind. Actually is an added bonus and dynamics that can be found in many so called 'vanilla' relationships. There are no explicit scenes that could put anyone off to read further. On the contrary - this is one of the best books that involve this genre that I've read so far for the simple fact that shows in some really heartwarming and realistic scenes and conversations what the lifestyle is really (or should be) about. SSC - Safe Sound and Consensual. Once again - forget what you see in 'videos' all over the internet. It's mostly about mutual respect, acceptance of each-otthers kinks and boundaries. That's the basics of any relationship or it should be including Bdsm. How far anyone would go is the matter of mutual respect, needs and boundaries. The ending of this book is one of the most satisfying I've read lately - or ever for that matter. If you haven't read the first book in this series Wrangled, I highly recommend it. It's a beautiful story and introduces very well all the characters you'll meet in Haunted and other upcoming books. Personally I can't wait!
It was going to be the same length as Wrangled, honest. 139k words later, I have my longest book ever. And it didn't go the way I thought it would. That is down to Butch. As I wrote the early chapters, I realized how much change he needed to go through, how much he needed to discover about himself. And that the reader needed to see his roots, what shaped Butch into the man at the start of the book. So if you're reading this expecting a lot of kink, I'm sorry, but he wasn't ready for that yet. What you get instead is a story of two men who both think Love has passed them by. One of them has never known love. One of them had it in his grasp, only to have it snatched away from him way before he was ready to lose it. And he doesn't believe lightning strikes the same place twice.
So this book ended up a romantic tale to two men falling in love, growing together, and facing up to the events in their lives that forged them. Yes, Butch discovers he isn't completely vanilla, but he still has a long way to go. Sol is more grounded, more sure of himself, but he has some learning to do too.
And when these two find each other...
If you're uncertain about reading this because... BDSM... then you'll be safe in this tale. Kink takes a back seat to the gorgeous love story that is Butch and Sol. Because that's another story....
Still haunted by his past, the last thing Butch wants is someone from that past intruding into his present. But what if Sol is exactly what he needs? Salvation Ranch is home to men who come from a variety of backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common...they are all looking for a home.
Sol Davenport hasn’t seen Butch since high school, but there he is...in the flesh, with his handsome face inviting back memories to Sol of himself...memories that he’d much sooner forget... memories of the ghost of himself that he thought had been left behind. He decides that the reason Butch might be avoiding him is that Butch also shares those memories. How is it even possible that Butch is now more handsome and so much hotter than he was back when Sol first met him...back when Sol was still firmly wedged in that tiny little "closet" that he had built in his head...stuffed himself into.... slammed and locked the door...and God forbid he let anyone even try to get in!
However, years have gone by...and lots of things have happened. Things like the heartache that he wants desperately to forget. The heartache he will do everything in his power to keep far away from that closed closet door. No sir...he’s not about to let himself get entangled again with a man who’d win the award for the "World's Gayest Straight Man". A man who doesn’t play his kind of games.... that is...not yet.
Change is coming to Salvation Ranch... a different type of "guest"...new and different activities. Butch thought that he would be ready...that he would actually crave the changes, but; is he ready for the collision that’s about to rock and turn his world upside down? There’s going to be changes for Sol also...but is he brave enough to accept what is on its way?
In a nutshell we have two "haunted" men who are giving their past ghosts a home in their heads. They will need to forgive themselves for their past...but can they? They will have to find some way to do just that if they are to have a ghost of a chance of happiness.
Haunted is a slow-burn, bi-awakening, hurt-comfort story about discovering your kink, excepting a newfound family, excepting redemption and learning to simply live again. It’s also about two men finding love, and a lot of "firsts" for one of them.
I was really wondering what was going on with Butch while reading Wrangled; I couldn't wait to read this book to find out. I would have never have guessed at the depth of pain and guilt that Butch carried with him for so long. He had a lot come at him at a time he already was struggling; I worried for him. I was glad that Teague was there trying to help in different ways, even if it wasn't what Butch wanted to hear. Sol's arrival at Salvation was initially bad, but definitely became a good thing for them both. I loved watching Butch start coming to terms with himself while learning and exploring what he enjoys for the first time in his life. He learns so much about himself; his growth was amazing. I am so glad that Sol was as patient and good at guiding Butch when he needed it. I loved that Butch started to see what Teague had pointed out to him earlier and that they cleared the air. I liked how Butch handled the situation with Sol towards the end, even though it hurt him for a while. I'm also glad that Sol finally came to terms with his past and told Butch everything. These two had a hard road to happiness, but they worked and found it together.
While you could probably read this story as a standalone, I think the story will work better for most readers if you have read Wrangled. The men of Salvation are a family, I love how they are all there for each other. Even though the length of this book is 540 pages, it didn't feel that long. There is a lot of character growth and insights gained throughout that helped me understand how Butch had become the man he was and how he changed and came to terms with himself. It's a beautiful story of dealing with the past, with themselves, and moving forward. I really enjoyed Butch and Sol's journey.
It took me way longer than it should have to read this book but, well, this was a long book and, life happens. Butch has secrets and the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s intrigued when the boss (Robert from Wrangled) announces that there will be a big change on the ranch and thanks to Toby (Robert’s new partner, and Dom), they will be hosting a BDSM ‘retreat’ for one week out of the month.
When the first of their new guests arrive, Butch meets the man who’s been hired to upgrade the ranch’s website, Sol. As it turns out Butch and Sol have a past, they went to high school together and were even friends. They also share a secret that Butch doesn’t want to talk about. Sol and Butch discover so much about each other and themselves.
Sol slowly introduces Butch to the lighter aspects of BDSM and Butch loves it. We eventually discover the shared secret and Sol helps Butch heal.
While Sol & Butch are the main characters, Toby and Robert also have on page time (not sexy times). When the synopsis says ‘slow burn’ it’s not an exaggeration, we don’t even meet Sol until chapter 5 and he doesn’t see Butch on the ranch until chapter 12 (@25%). And yes, it takes them a while to ‘get together’.
***** POV… third person
Standalone or series… book 2 in series while it can be read as a standalone, I suggest reading Wrangled first
Butch Buchanan has spent his life trying to forget the stuff he did as a teenager. He has also spent his fifty-two years on the planet convinced he was straight even though he tops the ranch's foreman whenever he has an itch to scratch. There is no intimacy then, so that is surely what straight guys do. But it has now become a rut going nowhere. Sol Davenport hasn't seen Butch since high school and his face brings back memories of a version of himself that he would rather forget as they were both assholes then. Butch is avoiding him which is a shame as he is hotter now than when Sol had a crush on him and was firmly in the closet. But many things have happened since then, like the heartache he yearns to forget. A heartache he will keep far from his door. Besides, Butch is the gayest straight man out there. As well as the major change that is on the way to Salvation, can these two haunted men exorcise their ghosts if they’re to have a chance of happiness?
I enjoyed this story with several plot twists and turns ready to either help or hinder them. Butch had to go through a major shift in his perception of his sexuality and then learn how to give up control to dominant Sol. Sol had his challenges with the tragedy from the past making him scared of a relationship in the future. So on both sides there were a lot of emotions and soul searching - be warned you will cry at times. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and a BSDM-like D/s relationship.
What an amazing, emotional and truly wonderful book! It's book 2 in the Salvation series and I recommend that you read book one before you read this, as it will give a much fuller picture of both the main secondary characters (the boss and his partner) and the others who live and work on the ranch that are an essential part of the story.
This is the wonderfully complex story of Butch and Sol, who though they were friends as teenagers, haven't seen or heard of the other since a traumatic event more than thirty years before. This is about to change, as Sol is invited by the bosses partner Toby, to help design a website for his new BDSM barn experience on the ranch. Butch is shocked when he is introduced to Sol, as he reminds him of all the guilt he has carried for 30 plus years and he doesn't want to lose his place on the ranch he calls home if his past is revealed. Sol recognises him too, but he carries information that could help ease some of Butches guilt, if only Butch would give him the chance to explain. In spite of the coolness of their first meeting, they soon begin to become friends once again and when Sol realises all the grief, guilt and emotional pain Butch carries, he's determined to help him deal with it. As well as being an experienced and qualified councillor he is also a caring Dom and seems to know what Butch needs and when. As Butch begins to open up, and after hearing some home truths from Teague, he starts to accept and thrive in the realisation that he is bi and that Sol and his lifestyle is meant for him.
On the surface Sol is calm and confident, but as he starts to fall for Butch, he begins to panic as he holds deeply buried grief and emotional pain from a partner he lost too soon. He lives in fear of getting too close to anyone as he could not face such profound loss again. With a bit of help from Toby and Robert he overcomes this and with consent and communication being key, the two get their second chance at finding their hea.
This is a most beautifully written story about two men in their 50's, one who has never felt love and the other who carries the pain of having loved and lost that love, their coming to terms with all aspects of their lives to date, and finally finding real love and joy with each other. Butch is a multi faceted character and the author helps the reader understand everything that has caused him to be that way. You really come to love and feel for him and everything that he has suffered and survived. The reader also learns about Sol too, but most of the focus is on Butch and his life on the ranch. I loved how the reader is drawn into life at the ranch and I was saddened to leave it as it felt so real. I also loved how real the other characters in the story were, especially Diana, Matt, Teague, the other ranch hands and it was wonderful to see into the lives of Toby and Robert again. Although the book was long, it really didn't feel that way and I wanted more after the end of the story, which means I'm really looking forward to book number three!
A hugely enjoyable read, but you may need tissues. I totally recommend.
A terrific story, with wit and tenderness ! A great combination for us. Both men were bullies in high school, but now 34 years later, we find out the truths. Our tale begins with flashbacks to give us some background, and we find out what our guys have done. Butch is 52, (on cover) and works at the ranch in Salvation. He's stocky and long legged, plus has tattoos. He's having a bi-awakening, and he and Sol knew each other in childhood. Sol, about 56, his partner died, his friends felt he needed some time away to relax, and he's a Dom and teacher in BDSM, so he came to help the ranch have the best set-up he can recommend for the new venture, a place for safe and sane BDSM getaway, with a website.
Sol and Butch meet again, now 34 years later, and their is a lot to clarify, because they were both bullies back then. Butch deserves a life with no guilt or tension, but a secret hang over them.
We get excellent descriptions of the BDSM lifestyle, It's time to ready the Barn for the opening, and the guys who work there, will learn, understand, and appreciate the lifestyle of the guests to come. We get more instruction and the rollout is important to the ranch. Sol and Butch are talking, flirting and we have more flashbacks throughout, with more realizations.
Our men's sexy times are super hot, firsts for Butch, and pace it out with a few lessons at a time. Butch says yes to everything, and they are vers.
Meanwhile there is the Dude Ranch to run with clients coming and going. Some parts of the story are hilarious and others are tender, and with tears. Then, we get another flashback that fills us in even more as it shocks the guys and us.
I liked all of these lively, hard working characters, as they are diverse and witty. Our men, Butch and Sol were fantastic, super sexy, full of deep thinking and conversations. There is 80% 5 Stars on Amazon. This was a joy to read.
K.C. Wells says this is the longest book she’s ever written. And while that may be true, it didn’t seem long to me (and this is coming from someone who prefers to read books that are 50,000-75,000 words). It’s one of the most detailed stories I’ve read in a long time. Both MCs have a backstory that is very pertinent to the telling of their present-day story in this book.
Butch is haunted by something from his past that caused him to bolt from his home 34 years-ago, when he was 18-years-old and he vowed from then on to be a better person. He is stunned when someone from his past shows up at Salvation, the place he’s called home for over 30 years – his safe place.
Sol has been invited to Salvation to design a website for the owner’s new venture – a place where like-minded individuals can come and “play” and enjoy themselves in a peaceful setting. He never expected to see someone from his past – Butch, his first crush.
The blurb really says everything you need to know so I just want to say how much I loved this book. It held me captive and I only put it down because I had to get some sleep. I immediately started reading again as soon as I woke up the next morning.
The emotions this story invoked were strong. There’s humor sprinkled in among all of the more serious parts. There’s remorse and sadness for things that happened in Butch’s past. There’s a slow to come acknowledgment and acceptance of his sexuality and his realization that he’s not as adverse to a bit of kink as he originally thought. Sol also has ghosts in his past and he doesn’t want to talk about them with Butch. When he finds himself getting in too deep with Butch, he doesn’t handle it well.
I wish I was better able to express how much I loved this book and why. The epilogue was absolutely perfect and brought peace and closure that I didn’t see coming. All of the men who make up the family at Salvation contributed so much to this story and I can’t wait to read the next one. K.C. says it will be about Zeeb and I’ll try and wait patiently for it. 😊
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
This story, I am not sure why the ghost was not revisited in at least two flashbacks. Since it is the core of this guy's angst. Speaking of the guy, Butch, did you write this person as someone who let's something happen to him with no complaint? Why was there no dive into the reason why he was passed over for a promotion for someone who could be his son? Further, why was said person, Teague, someone who acted as a counselor to the main character? It would seem as the younger Teague would receive counsel from the older man. There was quite a bit that was missed at least in the early part of the book where Butch was still closed off. It seems as though you wrote him as "slow". I point this out because of the consistent use of "the boss" when referring to Robert Thorston and Butch seems way too worried about what others think.. For God's sake, the guy is in his 50s, we really dont' care what people think. Additionally do people still use language like "the boss" in a ranch setting? Regarding the characters from the last book. Those two had quite a bit of coverage, if the book is read as a stand alone it is not clear why those two had chapters unto themselves. The premise of the book was good, yet the contents and the character building could have been deeper, hence using some of the chapters that were unnecessary. Ivy was correct, this story was long. Anyway, the story: Butch used to bully gay kids in HS because, as so often is the case, the boy doth protest to much. He would bully with other HS students, Sol. Something happened during his HS days and he felt it was all his fault, so he leaves town immediately and goes to work for a ranch in another state. By a fluke, he and Sol meet 30+ years later. During this entire time, Butch still claims to be heterosexual, yet he still has sex with men. That story is older than the total age of Donald Trump's cult, but I digress. He also has sex with the ranch owner's daughter, I guess helping him believe the lie he believes about himself. It looks as though BDSM was written into the book, but not really covered to much extent, except Butch learns other aspects of life that he finds enjoyable.
Fantastic overt and subtle hooks had me invested in Butch's character from the very first chapter. As his story unfolded, my heart continued to hurt for him; this isn't an angsty book, but self-reflection can be difficult. There's less focus on Sol in the beginning, but his baggage is just as compelling. Once the men are in the same place, I was completely invested in their journey together. This is a romance while simultaneously very much Butch's story. The character development is slightly unequal, but I don't feel like I missed out because Butch obviously needed so much more and Wells still hits the needed story notes for Sol.
The "slow burn" descriptor for his book is not a lie, but that's not a complaint. I love reading about older characters with history, and Wells gives those pasts the weight and respect they deserve. I also appreciated that while the kink is on the subtler side, it never diminishes anything about Sol's characterization.
This book doesn't quite stand alone, but it also didn't feel like a big deal that I read the first book ages ago. It truly leans into the theme of found family by also giving us lovely follow-up moments for the couple from the previous book. I hope this means we'll also get more of Butch and Sol as this series continues.
Disclaimer: I received a digital review copy of this book from the author.
I really wanted to like this book more. However, there are were several issues that negatively impacted the story imo.
Spoilers below!
1. The overall book is too long and focuses on the wrong things. There is an imbalance of showing versus telling, where it feels too much important info is told to us and we’re instead shown redundant slice of life events. By the time we’re 3/4 of the way through the book, I completely forgot about Sol’s backstory and was confused when Liam and his family were brought back into the storyline.
2. It didn’t really feel like “Butch and Sol’s Story”. A lot of the book felt like a continuation of Wrangled where most of the plot surrounded the ranch or Toby and Robert’s relationship.
3. The backstory with Scott felt borderline gross. It felt like the author randomly threw in a “this character was SA’d” excuse to allow the MCs to be redeemable. It just felt a little icky having that as a connecting backstory for the couple.
4. There feels like a lot of buildup to BDSM in this book for very little pay off. A lot of these scenes happen behind closed doors or are implied. For how easily these acts can be discussed/acted out by other characters, it seemed really weird the main couple has so few true scenes.
KC Wells always picks the perfect cover models... I can easily see Kevin Davis as Butch and I love the way his story is told... with his history unfolding for us, but the impacts felt in his present day...
I also love that Sol needs Butch just as much, and watching them learn each other and what they need is beautiful... this book is a bit of a roller coaster - KC calls it a slow burn, but I think that's mostly for the relationship side and between the MC's. So much loss, so many lived experiences, but so much new territory... so well crafted and well balanced.
One thing I typically have difficulty with is a book that changes timelines, but KC Wells does this masterfully and it truly enhanced the story and my understanding of the character at the beginning of the book.
If you're up for an epic romance with mature characters who reconnect after more than twenty years, sexual awakening, healing, second chance romance and redemption with a dash of kink exploration, you're definitely going to want to add Haunted to your TBR. While I think this book stands alone well, you'll enjoy it more and know more about Salvation and the other side characters if you read Wrangled first.
This may be the best book I've read this year. There were tears, tissues and a whole lot of whiping my eyes. I loved it!
Butch carries a lot of baggage, so does Sol. At first I was not sure that they are a good fit but boy, was I wrong. They knew each other when they were kids and are shocked when they see each other again. After the initial shock wears off, they have a lot to unpack. Together and each on their own.
Sol is exactly what Butch needs. He is patient and let's Butch discover things on his own but also pushes him in the right direction. I loved Butch's journey of finding himself and especially his sexuality. He sometimes seems so innocent although he is a mature man and has had his share of experiences. Sol seems to be a lot more steady, but he is hiding something that cut him deep. He tries to navigate his feelings for Butch with an horrible experience from his past relationships.
The story and especially the emotions are very strong and sometimes it just hurts to read what they went through but in the end they get their very deserved HEA.
Once again KC gives us a superb story. KC has long since been a 1-click author for me but Haunted was sublime. Butch and Sol were such great characters with real depth. Not only was this read a slow burn romantically but also the way the MCs developed and dealt with their histories. Butch in particular broke my heart. He's a beautiful character who you can feel is almost drowning with the guilt he carries from an incident in his teens, as well as his vehement avoidance of accepting his bisexuality. I also found it delightful that Butch and Sol are older characters. Quite frankly we need to see more of that in romance world. Haunted does feature BSDM but if you don't normally read that fear not. It's done very lightly and not hard core in the slightest. Butch is a newbie to BDSM and that is reflected in the stuff on the page so fine for non-BDSM readers. Thoroughly recommend Haunted and can't wait to other members of ranch family getting their stories.
I’ve been reading her books since 2013 when she started the Collared and Cuffed series. I always know her books are a great read. I’d say each books gets better but each one from the very first holds its own captivating story line. The development of characters adds that piece which so many authors don’t give the time to. So you can’t wait for the next book in the series. I just finished the 2nd book in Salvation Series and it was great. The only draw back was I was reading it until 3 AM and I needed to go to work. lol it is a great book, long but I never felt like it dragged. No I wasn’t able to finish it until the end of my work day. But to the ending made my day. I recommend reading this series. Definitely purchase Toby and Roberts book because it gives a background. You will fall in love with Butch and Sol, as well as enjoy the other characters. Can’t wait for the next one.
Haunted is book 2 in the Salvation series and picks up directly after Wrangled. The first part of this book is almost an extended prologue to Wrangled. We still get a lot of Robert and Toby, and it takes a while to really delve into Butch and Saul's story. This is a slow burn that takes place across multiple timelines, with lots of flashbacks.
The core story is good, but the book is almost too ambitious and it tries too hard to tug at the heart strings. While the book is an impressive 500+ pages, it just didn't need to be. There is too much going on and too many side stories, with each new trauma attempting to outdo the previous.
Still, I enjoyed it. Getting back to Salvation was fun and the entire crew continues to be a welcome addition to the story. The kink was pretty minimal, it generally spent more time talking about kink then actually seeing in on page.
This is my first review and boy what a book to review on, amazing read. Luckily I was signed off work this week as I couldn't put the book down! I hadn't even realised the length of the book as I read it.
Butch has now become my 2nd favourite character from the KC Wells books I have read, after Crank from the shifter series (please bring out another one for that!). I love complex characters, and these are so well and beautifully written.
I was an emotional wreck after reading the last couple of pages, that is how much the story got to me, especially learning the backstory of Butch (and Sol). The last time I was like that was a season finale of my avatar picture (those who know will know), maybe not quite so much, but it was close. Loved that Tobey and Robert (and the crew) were still a big focus and cannot wait for the next instalment.
As a Brit I loved the Collars and Cuffs/Secrets series, but this Sanctuary series could end up beating those. Rob and Vic could do with a holiday ;) a bit of a crossover, now that would be so funny LOL
I loved this book. I laughed, I cried, I got mad, and became hopeful, then happy. I couldn't ask for a better book two.
The characters are more flushed out. The settings are more defined and delineated. I love the fact that the MC's from book one weren't just cameos in this book, that their story lines continue and mesh seamlessly into Sol and Butch's story. I hope this trend continues into book 3. I like the fact that the rest of the ranch workers are considered family and not as throw away fillers just there to advance the plot. I'm hoping to hear more about each of them in bits and pieces until they each get their own books.
I can't wait to read Zeeb's book next. I'm truly I interested in seeing how KC develops the "leather barn" into his story.
Butch has a past and he keeps that past hidden. When someone from that past shows up at the ranch Butch’s world gets shaken up. Sol has come for other things not to find romance but he cannot deny the draw he has to Butch. Can they deal with the past and its secrets to heal?
I enjoyed Butch and Sol. Seeing the way they connect was a nice read. The two are good together and the chemistry between them burns up the pages. It was nice to see the two work through everything and find a way to figure out what they truly wanted and fight for it. They both have strong personalities and I liked seeing the support and affection that they have for each other. Not only did Butch and Sol shine but the supporting characters had a lot to say as well. The author gives readers a beautiful story full of emotions that grab your attention and does not let go.
**Spoilers ** I was interested since I read the fist and I love the fact that these men were my age. The fact that they reconnected I'm their adulthood was a bonus. I thought The exploration of BDSM for Butch was sweet. For Sol to be surprised that Brian used the name Butch was odd since he used it in High school. Butch didn't say anything about Race being his former lover. Toby was jealous after he called off their "relationship" and yes Butch and Sol had something to do the the death of their classmate even if they don't wan to admit it. The poor boy lost his father and these young men were relentless.. And Butch being over 50 should have known what PReP is and should have had blood work.
Ok right away I’m going to tell you to please read the Warning or Triggers for this book. It doesn’t state but there is mention of suicide of a teenager. This is mentioned due to the character, Butch, and his story. At 17 years old Butch leaves home after tragedy strikes the community and he’s to blame. At 50 a former class mate, Sol, shows up at Salvation Ranch for a week’s vacation to help set up a website for the BDSM club ( read book 1 if you haven’t already). Butch tries his best to ignore Sol. Sol has his own personal issues and soon the two of them together work through a lot and become closer. Closer than either thought would happen. This is a wonderful story with happiness, sadness, a lot of sexy and some BDSM. 5 stars ⭐️💜
OH ..... WOW..... Absolutely blown away by Haunted by KC Wells what a page turner I could not put it down it's beautiful, emotional and heartbreaking it's second chance at love for two amazing men Butch & Sol both hiding pain and loss but together with the emotional connection they have it's a slow burn but they are simply perfect for each other how patient and caring Sol is with Butch's bi-awakening these two help heal each other and with the rest of guys and family it's truly fantastic can't wait for more in series recommend so much.
I love this series! This is such a beautifully written story. The two MC's knew each other in high school. Butch is finally realizing that one night stands leave you empty. As I got to know Butch, I was really invested. When Sol showed up at the ranch, you could feel the chemistry. I'm glad Butch allowed himself to be open to love. This was definitely a full circle moment and a true second chance at finding love. The only thing I tried to ignore was the back and forth in years throughout the story. It really took me a out of the story I look forward to the next book.
These men will win your heart. The BDSM awakening is intriguing and hot. I appreciate the sensitive way the author touches on social issues of 30+ years ago and events that shatter our hearts these days. I don't appreciate reviewers who reduce the book to a few paragraphs. This a big story and it deserves to be read with minimal information from another reader. I found this book believable, amusing, heart wrenching and at last complete. No questions about what happened with Butch's parents. Please enjoy.
This is the first time I have read a book by KC Wells and I am p!eased to say I will be reading another one as soon as I finish this review. I fell in love with her characters of Butch and Sol. There are so very many feels in this story; I even shed a tear or two. I liked the idea of the ranch and enjoyed all of the characters involved. Her characters are richly developed and no one goes through more growth than Butch. If you enjoy a romantic, sexy MM story this is the book for.you.
