Dragon Falls #1

Dragon Falls

Rate this book
An ordinary guy crashes into a cozy fantasy. Chaos ensues.
How did I end up married to a dragon tamer? I guess you could say I fell into it — down a bottomless ravine and into a strange world of fierce dragon-riding warriors. They think I’m their leader’s missing son, and if they find out I’m Feliks, a nobody from modern Kraków, I’m in trouble.

Unfortunately, this missing guy had a husband, and now he’s mine. Marek is a grumpy, monosyllabic dragon wrangler who’s instantly suspicious of me and my quirky charm. He doesn’t like being in the same room as me, let alone the same bed. So if I want to get out of here, I’ll have to learn to ride a dragon without falling off, and somehow convince Marek I’m his long-lost love. Because of course, I want to get out of here… at least, I think I do.

Dragon Falls is a fantasy with low stakes but lots of heart, a warm and fuzzy gay romance between a chaotic ray of sunshine and a gruff dragon tamer carrying a few scars. Featuring a slow burn that ends in a bonfire, it also includes enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, a truth-telling wing woman, an indifferent adolescent and a spicy scene or two. And dragons. Don’t forget the dragons.
This is a complete story with a happily-ever-after and the first book in a series.

This book is every fantasy reader's wet dream and more people need to know about it.

Look me in the eye and tell me you've never fantasized (read: desperately wished) that one day, you would randomly stumble upon a magical portal to another world (complete with dragons and sexy long-haired men, of course) and your life would change forever.

That is exactly what happens to our adorably scatterbrained MC, Feliks. Not only does Feliks fall off a cliff and right onto the back of a fire-breathing dragon, he also falls right into a marriage with Marek the dragon tamer - who admittedly, does not breathe fire but is still hot as all hell nonetheless.

This is truly a Fantasy Rom-Com in every way. When I tell you - the way this book had me laughing, nay, GUFFAWING! I had so much fun from beginning to end; my cheeks truly hurt from smiling so much. If the plot itself wasn't already delightfully brilliant, the witty banter alone could carry this entire story. There's just enough seriousness to still give the characters beautiful depth but a the end of the day, the story is light-hearted and there's a touch of humor in almost every scene. I honestly feel that an author has to be remarkably talented to pull off that kind of balance without making it even a little bit cringey so ALL THE PROPS to Davis Lavender because that's quite achievement and they are officially one of my new favorite authors.

I AM IN LOVE WITH FELIKS AND MAREK. Their adorable enemy-husbands-to-real-husbands romance had me all swoony-loony and I couldn't even pick out a handful of my favorite moments because, frankly, I highlighted half of the damn book; that's how much I loved it.

The story and writing is just SO UNIQUE! Truly, there's nothing like it that I've come across and I promise you my review is not doing it justice. Ahhhh I can't wait for the next in the series!

If you want something light, romantic, and oodles of fun I implore you to pick this one up.

Inhaled this in 4 hours it’s SO GOOD! kept me on my toes, and I couldn’t stop reading. So hot, so swoony, so cute, so ridiculous, and so much fun!!! I LOVE IT I can’t wait for the next one 🙌🙌

Because I could never ever feel about him the way I feel about you.

“You can’t call me that.”
“Yes I can. It’s my pet name for you. How would you like it if I called you ‘man’?”

To be honest, I knew this book wasn't for me only a few pages in and really should have just DNFed it.

It was very zany, and I do not enjoy zany. It's like a fantasy romcom. I don't even like regular romcoms. The term "slutty snookums sweetcheeks" is used. Someone save me from myself.

The whole book is an absurd hot mess of completely outlandish characters and plots. Nothing is taken seriously, none of the worldbuilding is explained, there is no character development or plot to speak of.

Kasia is the only sane character in this entire book, all the rest of the characters were awful.

I'm giving this 2 stars because by some miracle I actually managed to finish it.

A little too much?

I know that doesn't make any sense but the first several chapters of the book I skimmed because it was just unbelievable nonsense followed by even more unbelievable nonsense. Like the worst slapstick compilation ever. It never really left the slapstick behind but it did tone it down somewhere about the halfway point. Feliks/Rys never becomes serious. Ever. When when his life depends on it. Marek is so reserved we never get to know him. Not that we know Feliks, either. He just sort of floats through the book causing mayhem and leaving chaos. In fact that sort of sums up the whole book: madness, mayhem and chaos. There is no logic. There is no real romance. There is no character development - everyone leaves pretty much the same as they entered emotionally. World building is scant. We see the village, or rather just the pub in the village and their home. Government system? General feudal mishmash. And nothing is explained about the vague "enemy". Everything revolves around dragons but even that is never explained. They're both treated like sentient beings and like war horses to be controlled. The dissonance is harsh.

There surely is a lot to enjoy about this book and I had a fun time going into the story and reading about its squirrel brained, naive and virginal hero encountering a parallel dimension where a world with dragons and dark aged tribes is existing that's exactly like the one of the movie set his brother is working at. I'm also always for witty banter and light-hearted fun with quirky characters but here at times it seems like it's only about wit, fun and quirks and that's not enough for me or maybe it was just the wrong book for my current mood.

Dragon Falls (How to Tame a Husband) is a gay cozy fantasy about an ordinary guy who gets transported into a fantasy world where he is mistaken as a despicable dragonrider and husband to the dragon’s tamer. He must charm the townsfolk, the dragon, and his husband if he ever wants to survive long enough to return home. It’s a tough job when the villainous person he is mistaken for is so widely despised.

I really enjoyed this book with its humor and heart. Touted as an ordinary guy crashing into a cozy fantasy, I’d actually more accurately describe it as an ordinary guy turning an epic fantasy into a cozy fantasy. To compare, it’s as a cozier and less raunchy Tales From Verania (by TJ Klune). It was just a whole lot of fun to read. Told from both their perspectives, Feliks and Marek are both men you can root for and whose romance you want to work. Ordinary guy Feliks was just hilarious and ridiculous and all over the place while dragon tamer Marek is a gruff softie. If you want a zany romcom with dragons, this is the right pick for you.

Dragon Falls is a gay cozy fantasy romance that is light-hearted, funny, and ridiculous.

A fun, comedy fantasy. It's a light read, and I enjoyed it as long as I didn't think too much about the logics.

Rhys/Feliks with his squirrel brain can be a bit much, but thankfully he wasn't too annoying. I did think it wasn't really fair of him to But since all turned out well, I guess I could forgive him.

Marek, on the other hand, provided some angst to us with his suffering. He made a great contrast to the sunny, airy Rhys.

Also honorable mention to D(e)amon, with his delightful snarkiness.

This was an okay read, but with a blurb of "an ordinary guy crashes into a cozy fantasy" it wasn't really what I expected. The book was lighthearted and humorous, but the world itself was not a particularly cozy one, with an abusive marriage, cheating, harrassment and bullying, people plotting to kill each other, stabbing each other, having to do life-risking stunts (not always succesfully) to prove their worth... it wasn't that dark in tone and none of this is stuff that I mind reading about, it's just not a setting that comes to mind for me when I see the words "cozy fantasy".

There were a lot of sweet moments in the book, and while I found Feliks a bit grating at times I appreciated how honest (well, to some extent) he was, particularly in how he wanted to do right by Marek. I enjoyed a lot of the world building, like the lore behind Tamers and Riders, and would love to see that explored more. I liked Marek and Kasia a lot too, but a lot of the other characters were a bit too unserious for me and I'm just not into that type of humour. I think that was the biggest reason why I didn't enjoy the book more, I much prefer grounded books to wacky books and this one leaned just a bit too much into the latter category for me to like it more than I did.

This book had me hooked instantly, it's such a fun adventure and yes it's rather silly & light-hearted for the most part with all of Feliks chaos. I adore the world building, the dragon rider training and the slow burn was perfect. Can't help but adore these characters and enjoy the journey, Feliks is a goofy guy and he provides so much humour.

Anyway I loved seeing Feliks trying to fit into this new world and his confusion over so much, as he has no knowledge of the guy everyone thinks he is so he just makes presumptions based on marriage & position. Of course it's hard not to love him though as he does mean well, his attempts to charm those around him - the dancing, making cocktails, nicknames, stone and protective over Marek.

Oh can't forget Damon/Demon his hilarious! I adored the adoption, the found family vibes and the banter between him & Feliks. Along with Marek along the way as form bonds was so wonderful! The reveals and his actions throughout are so entertaining, add to the tale with his mischief. Dragon/Bunny is adorable too, her fondness for her tamer and rider - the teasing when doesn't use name and working together.

Marek and Feliks are sweet together, as they get to know one another truly but for the most part it was just rather bittersweet - when take into account Mareks history with Rys who he thinks Feliks is for the majority. Every time felt they were getting closer there would be something awful brought up from the past and honestly I struggled to see how Marek could fall for Feliks not knowing his not the same person, considering all the harm he went through in the past.

Honestly I loved so much of this tale in terms of the plot and adventure, the world building and relationships are wonderful to see explored yet throughout had aspect hanging over it that just didn't feel resolved in the end. Although I am excited to see more in this universe and Olek/Trey shall be interesting from glimpse seen here.

I do wish their had been more information on Ryzard and the history, other then events hinted at based on people's reactions along with never a full conclusion as to what happened with him. That would have been good to have seen cleared up and fully obvious, also the identity mix up was around for way too long in general - Marek only realizes after they sleep together. Discussion later is brief and skimmed over so quickly, it was disappointing personally but suppose not the focus in the end.

Overall this story was amazing in many ways, yet felt missing something and hoping may see more of these characters with the next in series. Still for now their is a happy ending for Marek & Feliks, while still plot points left open for the next in the series ✨

This book was sooo cute!! I honestly downloaded it on a whim. And I didn’t think I was gonna love it this much. Rys/Feliks and Marek were so freaking cute together. The pacing of the story was perfect and even though you could kind of see the twist at the incoming it fit in perfectly with the overall vibe of the book. I can’t wait for Olek and Treys book next!

What happens when two worlds wollide?

One might say hilarity ensues when someone from Earth literally falls into Dragon Falls. It was a pleasure seeing Feliks morph into Rys (who really isn't the Ruthless) and charm the people of the training camp in spite of themselves. And there are dragons! Best of all, the baddies get their comeuppance.

As a fan of anime and the isekai trope when I read this summary I had to read this immediately! The worldbuilding felt a bit shallow as did the romance. But I like the concept and in general had a quick fun read! Hoping to find more books involving transmigration and falling into a world that isn’t our own!

I was hoping for a good fantasy

I didn’t get far and this went from weird cheesy to stupid cheesy in about 2 pages. I don’t want to finish because I knew right away that this was not my favorited type of fantasy romance novel. No seriousness just camp through and through.

3++ stars.

My rationale for picking up this book is that I was specifically looking for MM romance but one that would give me a break from any kind of real emotional drama. The blurb sounded promising so I decided to give it a whirl. And yes, the gorgeous cover may have had something to do with my selection. 😁

Turned out it was a great choice - this is a hilarious book. I don't normally go for "sweet", but this book includes such a huge dollop of humor that it makes all the sweetness (and there is a lot) bearable. Love the MC's and the BFF Kasia. The depiction of the dragon (named "Dragon" by Marek, aka "Honey Bunny" to Feliks) is a fresh take on that theme and fits in perfectly with the abounding irreverence of the overall story. If I had to pick a favorite character, it would be Feliks, as he is a yummy little self-deprecating and highly overdramatic princess (which was a delightful surprise, as you wouldn't pick up on that just from the blurb). His fussiness and outrageous reactions are a complete hoot, especially the way he treats his "son" Demon.

Here's a peek at some dialogue between Feliks and his long suffering 'husband' Marek; Feliks is speaking first:

Shucking off my outer layers, I slide under the covers. “Can we tell ghost stories?”

“No.”

“Can we have a pillow fight?”

“No.”

“Can we braid each other’s hair?”

“No!”

And just like that, all my sleepover dreams lie in ruins. Admittedly, with my shorter hair, the braiding might have been a bit of a stretch.

I ended up with an inordinate amount of highlighted bits in this book 😁

My only caveat is that the humor towards the end veers into rather frantic silliness, but the bulk of the book is extremely enjoyable.

Highly recommend if you are looking for sweet, light-hearted, funny and don't mind a tad of spice - although the humor continues right on through the sex scenes so they don't come off with the impact they'd have in a more serious book.

Cackled my way through this one. Comedic misunderstandings are the only misunderstandings I accept in books. This is a really good palate cleanser, and that I enjoyed it a lot it was light and fluffy and funny, but if you’re looking for something more in-depth this probably isn’t the book to go to.

I had certain expectations when I started this book, and that’s exactly what I got. It was a bit of a crack book, almost parody. And that was exactly what I was looking for when choosing this book. With those expectations met, it was a joy to read.

I would have liked a little more character depth in some parts (like maybe Feliks/Rys thinking about home/family/life in his own time a bit more), and for him to have a little more agency in getting home/making plans to get home, or at the very least giving it more thought than he did, and comparisons between the realms and characters and way of life even (and maybe a little more plots—which I think some agency would’ve helped with).

Other than that, the characters were fun, and they had good banter. I kinda liked how Feliks/Rys kept his happy go lucky attitude and all the insults and just rolled off him, I thought that was a nice change. And I loved how he was just like ‘these people are part of my family now.’ And Demon—I mean Damon— was a fun addition. I totally called his backstory, and who it was Feliks/Rys helped and loved what they did with the reveal lol.

I would have liked maybe an epilogue of them going back to Feliks/Rys’s home and a bit of closure around his family that are still there, and maybe even introducing his new family to them and his world a little bit.

Overall, super enjoyable especially if you’re wanting something light and fun and entertaining.

I am not sure that I have the words to describe all the ways in which Dragon Falls delighted me.

From the very first chapter, I knew I was going to love it. Feliks is travelling to the set of Dragon Falls to visit his brother, so we get some idea of what it is without Feliks being an expert. In fact, he’s something of an anti-expert, which is amusing, especially as we know that he’s about to find himself there with no clue as to what is going on. You can see things being lined up for the fall into the other world and the mistaken identity. Importantly, the book delivers on these and adds a few twists and turns so it’s never that predictable.

Both Marek and Feliks are wonderful MCs. I personally like the fact that both of them are decent people, trying to do their best. It is fate that has caused this problem, and it’s not their fault but they are the ones who need to sort out the situation. Their slowly developing relationship, the tentative trust between them, is beautiful and compelling.

I’m a big sucker for found family and this has it in spades! In the case of Damon/Demon, their denhand, that is literal. In fact, all of the side-characters are brilliant. From the fierce and protective best friend to the dragon with a sense of humour, I loved them all.

If you like portal Fantasy, then I definitely recommend this! It’s character-driven adventure and Feliks’ squirrel brain was hilarious. If you are looking for pure Dragon Rider smut, this is not for you. Dragon Falls is an exciting love story with lots of heart. And dragons. Lots of those, too.

It can be read as a standalone but I’m desperately hoping that there will be more to come.

Incroyable!🤩

I got half way through before I was bored to tears and skipped to the end, to see if he makes it back (spoiler alert, it's not a self-contained standalone), but it's 4 stars because I REALLY loved the world building. Even if I couldn't tell if he was in the past, an alternate reality, or the fictional world. I loved Bunny, I loved Demon, I hope Demon and Jerry Jr become a thing when they're older, bc the way the dude grabbed his ears and then Demon followed his "nemisis"'s plans was just ADORABLE.

I'm really surprised at the next pairing, bc with my skimmIng I thought the dude was evil (and maybe he is, maybe he isn't). I thought I would miss the real Ryszard, since the beginning meeting was epic, but no he was a total tool so I'm not even sad--which is to say, despite getting bored half way through, I enjoyed what I did read. I thought the characters were quirky, at times Rys reminded me of Romily from Jennifer Cody's Mute Murderer series, and Demon reminded me of Bellamy protesting constantly but still going along with it. The tension between Rys and Malek was great, Maleks angst always made me want to hug him not slug him, and the world was pretty damn unique with Dragons all called Dragons, naked butts under knee length clothing (stories don't really go there no idea how accurate it is but they don't), the whole Rider/Tamer system.

So 4 happy starts indeed.

2.75* - 3*

OK, so thoughts and feelings on this book, I really like Marek. I wish I got to know him more in depth because he had a bloody good back story, and I just wanted to cuddle him! I like his relationship with Kaisa, and I love his grumpy, scowling insecure nature. He is kind and caring and nursing a broken heart!

There was some spice. It felt like it came at an appropriate point in the story and helped develop the plot. It was sweet and not very detailed, which suited the happy go lucky cosy fantasy vibes the book has.

I felt so so about Feliks. I like a sunshine character, but he was almost a caricature of someone with a sunny disposition. It was completely and utterly unbelievable. And yes, I understand that many things in this story where a person falls into an alternate reality TV show are unbelievable but the MCs entire personality shouldn't be one of them in my opinion. So I feel like he could have done with some work.

I felt ZERO connection between these two. The connection I felt between Jerzy 2 ears and Demon however 👍🏽 it was all the little stolen moments and inside jokes we weren't quite privy to.

For me to love this I needed more character depth and relationship development.

This is 1st person and dual POV.

I was a bit nervous over the start of this book. I found Feliks to be pretty insufferable. The author was trying way too hard to make him quirky and awkward and instead of being funny it was just annoying and gave me second hand embarrassment.

Once we started to get a POV from Marek though the book started improving a lot for me and the world building was admittedly pretty interesting. I wasn't particularly attacked to any of the side characters except for Demon, I think it's being hinted at him getting his own book once he's a bit older but I'm not totally sure.

This is a romantic comedy so it remained pretty silly all throughout. Some of the humour felt very cringey millennial humour to me, but some of it was actually pretty funny and enjoyable.

I think this book could be considered a standalone but admittedly it leaves you with enough unanswered questions about the world to still want to pick up the second book despite it following a different couple.

I'll be continuing with this series for sure. I rarely see silly romantic comedies with lowkey Monty Python and Galvant vibes, so this is a nice break when you want something fantasy but isn't a huge commitment.

I was not expecting to love this one as much as I did! This is definitely new a favorite! I loved Feliks and Marek both and completely died over these two and the lovely story that unfolded between them. Feliks falls (literally) into a fantasy world full of dragons and warriors and quickly has to figure out that they think he's the clan leader's son, someone no one liked and how they thought had been killed years ago. Being the leader's long-lost son also comes with a husband who seems not to want anything to do with him.

Feliks is the very definition of sunshine, and he's nothing like the person everyone thinks he is--that person was cruel and rude and mean to everyone, especially Marek. Feliks doesn't immediately understand why Marek is so standoffish around him, thinking he isn't doing a good enough job of being Rys, but when he figures out that it's because Marek's husband was never good to him, Feliks resolves to be the husband he deserves, and it's in such small and simple ways that my heart just completely died over how surprised Marek would be by Feliks' actions and how he slowly uncurled and relaxed around Feliks.

Marek was awesome, and my heart went out to him and how he was always on edge, ready for Feliks to do the worst and how he never knew what to do when Feliks surprised him. I loved how Marek was the best at what he did and how everyone looked up to him for what he knew and how he knew how to take care of the dragons. I love how he made something of himself, how he started as a nobody denhand and became one of the best dragon keepers in the clan. I loved his grumpy personality and how he didn't want to let anyone in and how Feliks fought his way into Marek's heart. I love how he gets to be happy and how Feliks is everything he always deserved, and how he heals the hurts Rys left on him.

I loved Kasia and what a great friend she was to both Marek and Feliks and how she was the first person Feliks told that he wasn't who everyone thought he was and how she wanted to tell Marek and how she kept Feliks' secrets and wanted to help them both. I adored Damon/Demon and how Feliks picked this kid to adopt and how they gave him a home and how even though he poked at them and acted like he didn't care, he really did appreciate having a home and a family.

This book is hilarious and sweet and amazing in all the best ways. I loved watching Feliks figure out what was going on and how he's going to be the leader of their clan and how he's going to make things better. I love Feliks and Marek and everything about their relationship and how it came to be. This book is awesome, and I definitely recommend!

I started this a couple of days ago, but then life got to me and I hadn’t read anything but 20 some pages until today. Once I sat down and actually started truly reading this, I couldn’t put it down and finished it in a couple of hours. I loved Feliks/Rys, Marek, Kasia, and Demon aka Damon. I would’ve loved more of them, tbh. More bantering, backstories, you name it. There’s not much for character development or exploration of the world, but honestly, I didn’t even mind. We did get some history of the Tamers and Riders which was enjoyable. Even without that, the story didn’t feel lacking and was still a fun one. I do wish we saw more of Felik’s thoughts, as in he’s not wondering about his family back home? Not even a little? His life didn’t seem that miserable back in his world to that quickly decide it wasn’t worth returning to. At the end of the day, I love what I love, and this was a five star read for me.

it pains me to give it 1 star. I love the idea, the premise. but that's only thing I liked so far.
where is "lots of heart, warm and fuzzy romance" part comes into play? the first 19% only left me uncomfortable.
I didn't feel characters but was thinking maybe it's set-up phase.
in "grumpy" mc's head (his name maybe was used twice so I didn't remember it) there is only hate towards Feliks. and Feliks just smiles and takes it. but when "grumpy" mc thinks about Feliks' thighs or ass he suddenly blushes. huh. you you hate him as person but like his ass good enough.
but what made me dnf is scene where Feliks is almost assault by random man and "grumpy" can't distinguish delight and disgust in Feliks' reaction... he simply leaves, thinking Feliks must be enjoying himself. man...
I don't want to imagine how his sex life with Rys was if that's his skills in understanding what his partner enjoys.
no, just no. goodbye.

Dragon Falls offered me solace in queer cosy romantasy goodness while also gently nudging me to reevaluate my own biases.

While I initially bristled at some of Feliks's antics, I warmed up to him as the cast and I got to know him better. He's impulsive and ridiculous but also charming and earnest. Dragon Falls has an interesting take on a redemption arc: Feliks seeks to rectify a stranger's sins. Although Feliks can be a handful, his antics pale in comparison to true evil.

This book challenged me to reevaluate my gut reaction to those in my life with similar chaotic spontaneity. Is it such a sin to be a bit annoying if your intentions are loving? I appreciate the reminder to see the kindness in others even when our personalities don't match.

I can't neglect to mention how much I loved Feliks and Marek's dynamic! Sweet with just the right amount of spice.
