Moving with my three best friends and our seven kids into a dilapidated brownstone in Boston may have seemed like the most insane thing I’d do this year. Apparently the universe said hold my beer.
Because last night I got drunk and married my boss.
Don’t worry, it’s all fake. Or at least everything after 'I Do' will be.
Beckett Langfield is grumpy, rich and hates kids. I’m an overworked, overstressed, and overweight single mom. The only reason we’re getting married is because he needs to fix a PR disaster and I am available. As in sitting next to him, in a bar, when he has this brilliant idea.
Considering I just got divorced, I’m not looking to do that again. But Beckett makes me an offer that I literally can’t refuse, so I don’t.
He’ll help fix up our broken house and all I have to do is take a few pictures and pretend we’re happily married. Easy peasy.
Now if someone could just remind him that it’s all fake.
Author's note: Mother Faker is book one of the Momcoms Series and features an accidental marriage between a billionaire grump and a plus size single mom who happens to work for him where there is only one bed, tons of laughs, a lot of ducks, and it's always been you vibes.
-Olivia a little self confidence babe? it’s painful to read when you keep insulting yourself.
-Delia babe, i hate men too. i get it, i really do. but please tone it down. spare your hatred to your own love interest maybe? she was annoyingly rude to Beckett. (plus their banter kinda gave them enemies to lovers vibe and it was confusing ✋🏻)
-Dylan love you bestie. i hope universe will give you everything you want🙏🏼
-Shayla you deserve a hug🫂 my precious baby you’re the sweetest of all
💌
-Beckett he’s ✨obsessed✨ and we love to see it
also the book has like 12-13 characters that constantly mentioned, why did the author thought giving them all nicknames was a good idea? i couldn’t keep up with them😩
Mother Faker was a cute read, but it just didn't spark any big feelings for me, other than one scene between Beckett and one of the kids that had me teary. The book starts with a prologue introducing the four best friends, who each have a book in this series, and their individual situations that result in them deciding to live together and raise their kids in a mom community support system. I did wonder if this prologue was added later, because there are moments in the book where it mentions events from the prologue as if we didn't just read that part too. This is a romcom and it has a lot of zaniness and laughs alongside the romance and steam.
Liv (h) joins her besties because she's getting divorced after her husband cheated on her with their nanny. Her three kids are adorable and I loved their scenes. I loved Liv less though, she was internally focused on how messy her life was, her low self-esteem, and jumping to worst case scenarios constantly. I'm pretty certain she's meant to be relatable for these aspects, but I found it frustrating to read since she wasn't growing or changing. She does have some really great mom moments and quotable thoughts about being a mom.
I did love Beckett (H) though and I loved every moment of Beckett with the kids esp the cute nicknames that were meant to provide distance but were just flat out precious. Liv is the head of PR for Beckett's baseball team and they've worked closely for years. Beckett's grumpy, demanding, and he's secretly been attracted to Liv for a while, though she was off limits due to marriage and being his employee. But Beckett's father wants him to clean up an accidental PR nightmare that's occurred where Beckett's perceived as hating children and his father proposes that he marries a single mom...well Liv's a single mom and there's the plot. Written in first person, dual POV (the prologue does have a POV intro for each of the women). Tiny ow drama (H's ex lies to h and makes her feel bad, H only wants h) and tiny om drama (h's ex is an ass and causes trouble but not in the wanting her back way), neither are virgins (H having dates with beautiful women is mentioned several times but I just didn't get a manwhore vibe from him in his POV).
Beckett and Liv made for a cute couple, even if it took time for them to get to the "this is real" stage. Beckett was such a softie for her and just needed to be wanted and to do nice things for his people. Plus, he calls her "my wife" and went crazy for the times when she was called by his last name. However, I didn't feel like his thoughts were consistent when it came to how he wanted Liv and what he wanted from their relationship - one moment it'd be that he'd always wanted her and then the next it'd be a thought about the deal they made regarding their marriage that felt distanced. Liv's side of the relationship also read uneven for me with her being attracted to Beckett but focused on him not wanting kids, when she could clearly see these amazing interactions he was having with hers. The emotional vulnerability and intimacy needed to happen earlier maybe or feel stronger. I liked their chemistry together though and that they were careful about their relationship given that they worked together and that the kids were involved. Once the spicy times started, they were really hot but also still kept the sweetness that Beckett had begun to shower on Liv.
There was a lot of funny chaos in this book between four moms, seven kids, and a grown man who was constantly overwhelmed by all those women and children. I really liked two of Liv's friends but I really disliked the third and how negative she was alllll the time. I believe in giving someone a chance and how she hated on Beckett without giving him a fair shot drove me nuts and made scenes with her in them less fun for me. The kids were hilarious and so were Beckett's brothers, who sometimes acted like giant kids, esp the text conversations between the brother group where they would kick each other out of chats as they argued. One of Beckett's brothers in particular pushed at Beckett to help him get to his HEA. Liv's brother was also a protective and supportive side character. Also shout-out to the raccoon as a side character, I loved it.
I didn't love the drama with the ex, but I did like that even though it led to uncertainty between Beckett and Liv, there also wasn't a third act breakup. The claiming of each other (and the group) was really sweet. The ending has that HEA/HFN feel of them solidly a couple and they're clearly in the other books in the series. I have seen friends' reviews that mentioned Beckett not being as wonderful in book 2 as he was in this one and that makes me sad because he made this book for me. I don't think I'm continuing the series but I'm glad I picked it up.
Mother Faker is a sweet and steamy marriage of convenience, found family, grumpy x sunshine romcom following Liv, a single mom of three who decides to move with her three best friends and their children into a rundown brownstone; and Beckett, her brooding boss who proposes they get married in order to improve his public appearance. The story is full of cute moments, banter, and a completely obsessed MC who is willing to do anything to make his new wife happy. I loved the found family and all the chaos that surrounded the 4 women, their friendship was so endearing and it was so sweet how they rallied for their children together. While there isn't a lot of substance, I enjoyed this filler romance and how the story fit together, I was dreading a third-act breakup and miscommunication, but was pleasantly surprised when there was none.
this was like cheaper by the dozen meets full house plus a marriage of convenience. i am obsessed.
liv’s boss beckett has developed a bad reputation for hating kids when he unknowingly denies a children’s hospital to host their charity at his stadium. to do some quick damage control, his father suggests he date a mom to show just how kid-friendly he is. lucky for him, liv is newly divorced and a mom of three so she’s the perfect candidate. unlucky for him, she declines to tell him she shares a house with her three best friends and their kids too… which beckett has to move into.
first, this was SO funny. between beckett & liv’s banter and all the kid antics (which were actually a great addition) to his brothers ribbing him for everything and the house’s new pet: a pregnant raccoon, there were SO many funny moments. i was giggling the entire time i was reading it because there were so many shenanigans.
second, beckett & liv were EVERYTHING. i loved how it flipped from traditional grumpy sunshine to him basically being a golden retriever in trying to get her to take a real chance on him. he went from mildly disliking kids to having the CUTEST relationships with all of the kids in the house. their story was so sweet and their chemistry was so hot.
third, i loved the female friendships in this so so much. this series is such a cute concept and they have the cutest, most dysfunctional found family ever.
Unfortunately, as much as I thought the first chapter was hilarious, I really did not enjoy the writing style. Everything felt like it was all over the place and a lot of things didn’t make sense.
But the real reason why I DNFd was because literally all the actual action scenes or plot scenes weren’t even described in real time. The author kinda just briefly went over them while having the characters talk about it to each other. It was completely bizarre and made for a not great reading experience. Like I don’t want to hear about what happened, let me be there with the characters while it’s happening.
Also, I was 30% in and the characters still felt like cardboard cut outs being waddled around play acting the storyline. Zero depth or emotions were present in their personalities.
I love Beckett, I think he and the kids are the only reasons why I enjoyed this. I enjoyed how much of a simp he is and how patient, thoughtful, and devoted he is to all the moms and children in the house. This guy is a freaking green flag, and I want someone like him, irl.
Livy, not so much. I get those insecurities and doubts, but dear Lord, it was exhausting when she kept being dense despite all the efforts Beckett had shown to her and her children. I wish she would get past some of her issues and never let them fester in her life. But the constant negative thinking and talking down to herself were not working for me. By 80%, I was so annoyed with her that I almost didn't read her POV, but she's essential, so I still pushed through.
Anyway, this was still fun. It had me giggling because it was totally sweet too. Looking forward to the stories of the remaining mothers. ❤️
Reread In the cuteness if the first read I somehow overlooked Liv's insecurities about her size which actually took up a lot of her headspace, meaning it took up a lot of mine. It got to be a little much but I still enjoyed this one. Beckett waffled a bit for me, he's also wanted her for 10 years and yet didn't know that she was divorced? If he wasn't so cute with the kids I'd lower the rating 😑
Spoilers ahead, 3.5*
Liv has been the head of PR for Beckett's baseball team for years, now with her grumpy boss being labelled as a children hater Liv's got her work cut out for her. A series of unfortunate events has brought Beckett some really bad press lately. While his focus has always been on his job and he's decided not to have kids he doesn't HATE them. As things spiral out of control his dad presents Beckett with a solution....fake marriage to someone who has kids. One drunken night in Vegas presents the answer to his problem....marry Liv, only Beckett has no idea what's in store for him.
*****Okay firstly I'm not a fan of romcoms simply because I just never quite get the hurmor and the "funny" situations are always OTT but this was just cute as heck. I loved the fact that Beckett had been into Liv for years but she was married so he didn't go there. Usually in a trope like this the H stays away for the good of the H while fucking multiple ow but noy Beckett. Liv was married and though he had a girlfriend for years he wasn't a manwhore. The kids were cute, book was funny, writing style was interesting and fun, sexy times were just sexy enough and the supporting characters all likeable enough so much so they I can't wait to read the rest of those series. I will say there could've been more depth at certain points but I guess the author just kept it light and smooth flowing. I did find myself lost as to some of the secondary characters however like I should've read their books already but this was my first read by this author so I was mildly confused sometimes All in all a really cute and fun read
No cheating Slight OM drama from the ex husband Slight ow drama from his ex girlfriend H wasn't a manwhore h was recently divorced after her husband cheated Single parent h
********* I just read this in another book by this author that came out before this one.... proving Beckett has always wanted Liv....le swoon
Gavin grins. “My brother already met the love of his life. She just doesn’t know he exists.” Beckett growls. “What the hell are you talking about?” Gavin laughs like an idiot and takes the whiskey from the server when she appears. Then he taps his glass against mine. “To Olivia Maxwell, the only woman Beckett will ever want.” His brother rolls his eyes. “She works for us,” he says to me. “And she’s married.”
I can't believe I need to be telling adults in 2024 that "Fat" doesn't equal Not Beautiful/Gorgeous.
Also, can we have a fat heroine without a fat storyline?
She's fat, great, cause we love size representations, but I really don't want to read about her being insecure and needing validation from the hero blah blah.
I am tired.
Just write a fat fmc falling in love. It's that simple.
3 stars - This book was a mixed big, there was a lot that I liked but also a lot that I didn’t.
I think the connection between the MCs sometimes came secondary to all of the side character’s antics and drama. There are a lot of side characters, but the author did a good job of introducing them and making them all unique. I really liked the kids and their relationship with the hero, lots of sweet moments. However, the MCs had big communication issues - the heroine especially. She had major insecurities about her body and seemed to just constantly push the hero away because she didn’t think he could desire her as she was. To be fair, her ex was a douche who messed with her self-esteem and the hero had previously dated a woman who is described as being pretty much the opposite of the heroine. Still, the hero basically bent over backwards trying to get her to see his desire for her, and she was constantly allowing negative thoughts to rule her and backtracking on any progress he made.
SPOILERS AHEAD, although they are safety related
Safety is meh -Heroine was married and was cheated on by her ex with the nanny, she has 3 kids with her ex husband. He causes some drama, but not because he wants her back -Hero was with OW on and off for a long time, she makes an appearance and makes the heroine think that she’s still seeing the hero, which is a lie. -Hero and heroine met years prior and are both with OP during those years, they work together closely -No scenes with OM/OW -No cheating between MCs

There's no way I wouldn't give this book five stars. I haven't laughed so much with a book. I was almost crying in every page. I teared up here and there too, but gosh I laughed so DUCKING much. This is exactly what I wanted, but mostly what I needed.
The shinning twins?? I could not stop laughing. They are a force to be reckon, they are smart as hell. The one thousand dollars for the swear jar? Impeccable. The fact that they are accepting venmo had me rolling, they definitely are going to be rich through that ducking jar. You might have seen that I was hating Delia, she was so annoying and overbearing. I understand she was trying to protect her friend, and all of the children, but COME ON. She was getting on my nerves most of the times, sorry not sorry. Dylan, on the other hand? BESTIE BESTIE BESTIE. She saw it coming from miles away, and I was so proud of her for that. Her relationship with Beckett were hilarious. Shay, I felt sad for her, her lost, her anxiety but most of all, I felt the most for Kai.
Talking about the kids, I have to admit that Finn was my favorite, I died laughing. His love for Bossman, but also for Junior, I won't ever get over it. I am guessing that I'm going to love every kid even more while reading the book of their moms.
Beckett, I loved you so much. You screaming or squeaking like a little girl in that crazy house was almost impossible to imagine, but hilarious, nonetheless. His brothers were the cherry on the top, for real.
Drake, you suck. Duck off, asshole.
This book was everything for me, it made me feel like I was teenager again. Laughing so many times, trying to not make noise or be too obvious because people would have thought I was crazy. I still could not avoid laugh many times, but the crazy looks that I got were so worthy.
Now, let's dive in their rest of the books. I hope they are as good or better than this one. I'm very excited for Dylan's book.
I started this book without reading the synopsis, I just saw this on one of the reading group chats I am in and I didn’t know I’d enjoy this as much as I did hahahahaha. Definitely looking forward to more of the kids’ antics in the next books!
single mom is just everything and the way Beckett stepped up for Livy and her kids was just 🫶🏻
i love a Drunk Married My Boss In Vegas trope especially since Beckett has been (basically) in love with Olivia since the met ten years prior when she started working for his family company. she never looked at him as anything other than a pain in the ass and he was always interested in her even though she was married and when she started having kids. he did have a childhood friend he dated through the years but he said it’s because she was comfortable and he didn’t have to work at their relationship. she was basically a placeholder since he couldn’t have Olivia…..but not in a douchebag kind of way! Beckett was seriously a gentleman. he broke up with the ow months before he even knew Olivia got divorced from her scumbag dickhead of an ex but once he knew and his dad gave him the ultimatum of dating a woman with kids, it was like the universe provided and he could finally go after who he’s wanted for years.
there was surprisingly no ow/om drama! the ex girlfriend pops up ONE time saying Beckett is taking her out to lunch and they will keep things discreet but he shut her down so fast and she was never seen again 😂😏
god i could write an essay on Beckett bonding with ALL the kids in the mom-com. he was swoony and i even cried a little at the end.
I have no idea who any of these people are, and I could care less. Wayyy too many characters way too fast. I also think I just need to take a break from reading for a few days because I’m DNF’ing everything 🥲
Sometimes I like single parents; sometimes I don't. This one was okay. We have Liv, who has a bossy boss, Beckett, who always needs her around. Besides that, she's going through a divorce, so her plan is that all her besties are moving into one house to take care of each other and their kids. 😉
Hands down, I love the friendship the women have with each other. I'll be honest, Delia is the only one who annoyed me with her "man-hating" stuff. We get it; you hate men. It got annoying fast, so I'll skip her book.
But let's start. Beckett is known for disliking kids, at least what the press says about him. His dad wants him to settle down with a mother. This kind of gives Beck an idea since he's been in love with Liv for a while, but she was married, and now it's his chance. Drunk and in Vegas is how it happens. Lol.
But Liv thinks the marriage is fake because of what she said. So rules are made to be broken. As they share the house with the friends, Beckett is a great man with kids, well, her kids only, lol. I love Finn and his relationship 🤧 💕. There is drama with the dad and a tiny OW scene, but it doesn't last long.
No ow/tiny om (ex husband) no cheating, secondary character, drama, sexy times, no virgins
Recommend-yes Cover-⭐️⭐️⭐️ Heat level-🌶🌶🌶
Slow-instaburn Push away from both Praise kink No condom Mentions of child neglect (from the father) Hea Epilogue
Beckett Langford is the owner of a baseball team, he’s handsome, a billionaire, but grumpy AF. He has been in hot water from the media due to a series of misunderstandings, and now he has a reputation as a children-hating grumpy man. His father demands him to settle down with a single mom to save his reputation, and when he learns that Olivia is now single, he proposes a fake marriage to her. Only he doesn’t intend to keep the marriage fake, It turns out he’s been pining for her, but she was taken.
I love that he’s not only fallen in love with her but with all of her kids as well. I especially love all of his interaction with Finn, he was so adorable, he called him “bossman’! This man is such a golden retriever for her and her kids, he literally does anything for them, including moving to the madhouse and sleeping in her closet, where else you can find a billionaire like this?😂
This is the first book of the mom-com series, it stands for Mom Commune, not Mom Comedy, though it should as this book was funny AF. There are so many things I can list about this book that made it work so well for me, I simply could not put it down, and I was LOL-ing all the way through. In this book, we were introduced to 4 moms, who all will get their books:
𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕄𝕠𝕞𝕤 & 𝕂𝕚𝕕𝕤: Mother Faker 𝓞𝓵𝓲𝓿𝓲𝓪 - Work as a publisher, recently divorced from a cheating husband ▶️Adeline “Little One” (2yo) - The cutest baby girl ▶️Finn “Huckleberry” (4yo) - Always armed and loves wearing a tutu and camo pants ▶️Winnie “Bear” (8yo) - Artsy little girl
Mother Maker 𝓓𝔂𝓵𝓪𝓷 “Dippy Do” - Hippie Stay-at-home mom ▶️Liam “Demon Spawn” (15yo) - Wear headphones all the time
Mother Pucker 𝓢𝓱𝓪𝔂𝓵𝓪 “Pipsqueak”- Widowed single mom, she’s overprotective and a hypochondriac ▶️Kai - Overprotected by his mom, not allowed to eat junk food
Mother Hater 𝓓𝓮𝓵𝓲𝓪 “Medusa” - Men Hating Independent Lawyer ▶️Phoebe “Shining Twin #1” (8yo) - Overly smart 8yo who likes to extort money from adults ▶️Collette “Shining Twin #2” (8yo) - The complicit of the above
*Nicknames courtesy of Beckett Langford
Surprisingly, with these many characters, I was not bored or confused about whose who, as it was written in such an entertaining way. Each character has their personality and quirks, and honest to God I love all of them. And we didn’t get the future men for these girls yet, only Beckett, so you won’t get overloaded with too much information. And we get a glimpse of Beckett’s relationship with all of them, which I found so adorable! My favorite will be between him and Medusa & her twins, at this point they probably already extorted enough money from Beckett for their college trust fund. 😂
I don’t know why I do this to myself. Honestly I really was enjoying this until maybe the 30% mark, the set up was cute-4 single mom besties who move in together to help eachother out. Why do books have to be so tropey? Why do people have to have such ridiculous characteristics? The fat hot mess mom, the man hating mom, the granola hippie mom, the widow mom. Grumpy boss who’s really not grumpy at all?? “It’s always been you” I always pay attention to you and know you drink a Diet Coke everyday at 3pm but had no clue you’d gotten a DIVORCE?!? I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again- stop with the smut book clubs in books, shouting out ur author friends. It’s fucking cringe central. And oof all the joe Arden praise yikes bro. I really liked the concept of this series but the execution was just blech.

This was such a delightful read! Exactly what I needed at the moment. It was fun, swoony, and had me smiling and giggling throughout. Even though the characters and plot weren't totally unique, they were still enjoyable to follow. And no third-act breakup drama! I especially appreciated the plus-sized representation with the female lead and how the male lead supported her to feel more confident. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
Goodreads disappeared my first review! So annoying! This book got bogged down by the introduction of all the characters for the rest of the series. Liv works for baseball team owner Beckett. When she divorces her cheating husband it’s the perfect opportunity for Beckett to swoop in. He needs a PR intervention when he’s labeled a s a kid hater in the media. Liv and her 3 kids to the rescue. MOC. There’s some cute stuff in here but way too many characters for me to keep up with. It’s pretty much an info dump For future books. There was a good love story if you want to wade through it.
This was such a fun read! However, I was a little lost at first as it skipped from character to character.
It slowly all clicked into place and I got a grasp of who was who. Once I figured out all the characters I fell in love with them. I think the concept for this series is brilliant! I always like it when I come across a book with an original concept.
It sounds crazy having them all live together, I mean I wouldn't do it but sounds like lots of fun. There were some LOL moments, mostly involving the kids and also the Racoon.
I enjoyed the romance between Beckett and Liv they were 'meant to be'.
