I read this on the AlphaNovel app. 🤦🏻♀️
Anyways, on the app, all six books are together as one long story, and labeled as three books, so I saved my review and start/end dates for the last book added to my read pile.
Now that disclaimers are out of the way…
Loved the story. Started hating all the “gulping” about 2/3 through. If the author ever decides to put this in an actual print book, please for the love of the moon goddess, just take out about 98% of the “gulps.” I promise it’ll be much stronger for it.
That said, I loved Emma’s story and all the hardships she had to overcome. And then when it transitioned into book two, or was it three?, we got fast forwarded version of their lives, I thought that was nicely done, getting to hear from all of them.
Technically book three - on the app (where Sophia and Hunter’s story starts) - could be a stand alone since the main characters tell their children the story of the first book, although, it’s more of a summary so you’d miss some details, but it’s not imperative to have for the final book.
[Outside of the gulps, my only real complaint is with the app itself and having to pay for chapters. I can’t spend more than $10/month, so while I’d normally have this whole story read in a few days, it’s taken me weeks. And just so annoying and inconvenient for my personal tastes. But again, that’s an app thing. I think these apps need to be fair to the authors AND the readers. Just offer the whole story for $20, regardless of word/chapter count, and give the authors a fair percentage. Unless it’s a special edition PRINT book I can physically hold in my hand and turn PAPER pages, I really think anything more than $10 for a book is too much, however, like I said, I’d be willing to slap down $20 if I can just get the whole thing from the get-go.]
The app limited my review to 300 words. Now that I know there are actually six books out there, some of the repetitiveness makes way more sense. Still, the gulping was excessive. It’s a wonder the characters didn’t belch every 5 minutes. And it’s the reason I took off a star. (You can’t even make the “gulps” into a drinking game. You’ll pass out or end up with alcohol poisoning before you made it through book, I’m guessing, three. But I did like the story line and plot.
I’d recommend it to anyone who likes werewolf stories as long as they can overlook the gulping. Oh, and spice was there, just not a lot, and I’d give it 🌶️🌶️🌶️ out of 5. My only other advice, don’t read it on the app. 🤦🏻♀️
