It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.

“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”

However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a creative bone in her body. In school, math and science were her best subjects, and when it came time to pick a major in college, she chose business.

Abandoning her academic scholarship to Brigham Young University at the age of 20 in order to get married and start a family, Brenda dabbled in commercial real estate, then became a loan officer.

“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda admits. “I learned how to write by reading what others have written. The best advice for any would-be author: read, read, read….”

Brenda sold her first book, and the rest is history. Now a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she continues to publish two or three novels a year, in a variety of genres.

Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are the proud parents of five children—three girls and two boys. Now that they are empty-nesters, she spends her free time babysitting her two grandchildren.

When she’s not with her family or writing, Brenda is usually raising money for diabetes research. To date, she's raised almost $2.6 million. Her youngest son, Thad, has diabetes, and Brenda is determined to help him and others like him. She also enjoys traveling, watching sporting events and biking--she rides an amazing 20 miles every day!

Tying the Knot by Brenda Novak
Whiskey Creek series #11. Final book in the series. Contemporary romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Grady Amos is the last single man in his family now that all his brothers have married. He’s never been in love and they all seem so happy. Doesn’t he deserve his own special someone? When a tv show producer starts flirting with Grady, he thinks she’s interested in him, but instead she asks him to marry someone else! She is interested but apparently the job comes first and she needs him as a filler on Tying the Knot, a reality show where contestants meet their soulmate. Since Grady knows his part in the show isn’t real, he picks the woman most likely to say no to his proposal, his opposite in every way. Except she doesn’t say no, and Grady finds himself on a honeymoon with a stranger. With cameras following them everywhere.
Aja Kermani was convinced to be on the tv show because of the complex and extensive questions and interviews and psych evaluations. With a 50% success rate, she goes in believing there has to be good science between their pairings. Plus, this way, her family can’t pressure her anymore to marry the man they’ve chosen for that she has only lukewarm feelings for. She wants passion and a soulmate kind of love. Paired with Grady, who has his own business hours away while she’s built a successful dental practice in Los Angeles, must mean there is something more than compatible between them. As they spend more time together, she thinks maybe they do have something special.
What happens next?

A budding romance, family drama, and twists make this story compelling though I’m not of fan of deliberate deceit. The whole tv aspect made it a fun premise to start with and Grady does falls in love completely which saved this story for me. It’s a promise of a future to come.

Different versions of this book came with different bonus stories. I’ve read the main story only so far.

Disappointed: Where’s the rest of the story?

I was really enjoying this book and then Brenda Novak just ended it. It felt unfinished. I wish she had developed the rest of the story. I wanted to find out how the parents and their daughter ultimately resolved everything and what happened to the brother.

My focus in this review is on the book by Brenda Novak. This is the story of Grady Amos, the brother in the Whiskey Creek series who was left without a partner in the previous book. Grady is a likable character, a hard-working Amos brother who has succeeded in life and in the auto body business with his brothers. What he doesn’t have is a love life, so he sets out to rectify that by agreeing to appear on a reality TV show called “Tying the Knot.” Of course, there is a big twist about his appearance. He isn’t there to find a mate on the show: he is already attracted to the show’s producer Winnie and since she needs an extra man to complete the lineup for the show, he agrees in order to later be able to pursue Winnie. Grady is smart and full of compassion, so his plans don’t exactly go as expected. He is paired with a Persian woman named Aja who is opposite him in all ways. She is a professional dentist and lives in LA. But she is the perfect foil for him to use to get to Winnie. The story is filled with romance and other twists and some real family drama. It moves along at a good pace and is entertaining as well as engaging. I was totally invested in what would happen to all of the characters because each is so realistic and has their own challenges to face within the story. This is a well-written romance and I highly recommend you return to Whiskey Creek or visit there for the first time. You will fall in love with the charm of the town and the charisma of the characters!

Brenda took us back to Whiskey Creek, my absolute favorite series of hers. This was Grady Amos' story, and he meets Aja on a reality show called Tying the Knot. They both have their own reasons for joining the show and yet neither thought they'd meet someone they could see a future with.

I love how real Brenda's characters are! She paints a story, breathes them to life and I can see everything as it happens and I feel invested in their lives.

DISCLAIMER: I was given an advanced reader's copy for my honest review and posting on social media. I am also a friend of the author and have read all of her books. Yet she trusts me to be honest and unbiased.

Let's begin...

Awww, finally we are back to Whiskey Creek, CA! Sadly this is the 11th and final novel in The Whiskey Creek Series (insert huge sigh here), unless you count the novella When We Touch (#0.5), the novella Home For The Holidays (#10.5) and the cross over to The Dundee Idaho Series When I Found You (Book #8 in that series). I have loved Whiskey Creek and ALL of it's residents from the very beginning. After all my book boyfriend lives here (back off from Joe DeMarco ladies he's mine, haha). Brenda has written this town so perfectly that you (well me) can picture it as a real place to live. Ok back to the story...

In this final chapter we finally have a love story for Grady Amos. Yes Grady the middle brother of the famous Amos brothers! But will he have a HEA, that's the question?! In true "bad boy" style, Grady walks into the local watering hole after working way too many hours he not only seen a very attractive, fashionable and polished woman he had never seen before but he also seen the empty bar stool beside her. Her name was Winnie and she was from LA.

Winnie is the producer for a reality show "Tying The Knot" and she liked what she saw in Grady. She wanted him for the show, where he wanted her! I nearly fell out of my chair when Grady Amos agreed to be on her show! (Never saw that one coming Brenda!) But Grady had his own conditions and agenda. He would do the show and when it was over she agreed she would date him.

"Tying The Knot" is a reality show that is in it's third season. This season the men get to pick their future wife from the three woman they are paired with after only one date. All contestants are tested and vetted and paired by psychologists. The future bride does have the option to refuse the proposal. Which is equally what Grady (and Winnie) are hoping will happen. Enter the hiccup or bump in the road, Aja!

Aja Kermani is a successful dentist with a private practice in LA. After dating Arman Kahn for several years he finally popped the question, and Aja turned him down and broke up with him. Although Aja and Arman were great friends she could not see herself happily married to him. Breaking up was hard especially since their parents were best friends but she didn't feel right still dating him. Enter the distraction, her brother Darius.

Darius Kermani is in Law School but has dreams of becoming an actor. He applied to be a contestant on Tying The Knot. Aja agreed to go with him on his interview, as a show of support. Winnie and the psychologists felt that Darius was just a little too young for their show until Winnie seen Aja. Aja was perfect for the show but she had no interest in being on it. An offer was made that if Aja would agree to be on the show they would also take Darius! So she agrees. She and Darius lie to their parents and tell them they are taking a month off and traveling.

So the plan was that Grady and Aja would be paired together and he would choose her as his future bride. She is beautiful, successful, and they have absolutely nothing in common add to that the cultural difference (she is Persian) there is no way she would say yes! Grady and Winnie were counting on that...but...Aja said YES!

Was Aja losing her mind? She just broke up with a guy she knew most of her life and turned down his proposal and just accepted a proposal from a guy she barely knew! Both she and her brother would be married in just a few days unless they broke the engagement and left the show. But, then they would have to pay the show back for expenses and the penalty fee. Oh boy!

Long story short, Grady and Aja, and Darius and Barbie, get married. But will the two couples make it work? Will they have their HEA (Happily Ever After) or will they have the marriages annulled? Oh don't forget the feelings between Grady and Winnie. Will Grady really give Aja a chance? Will Winnie sabotage them and tell Aja the truth? Maybe I'll answer that later.

Grady is a co-owner of Amos Auto Body in Whiskey Creek. Aja has her private practice in LA. The towns are 7 hours apart. One of them will have to move to the other town, if they want to make their marriage work.

A Tying The Knot cameraman follows each couple on their assigned Honeymoon. Even though he doesn't stay long it is his job to get "good" footage and to ask questions, PERSONAL QUESTIONS! Grady has had enough and wants to leave the show and he talks Aja into it. He informs Winnie they are leaving and going to Whiskey Creek but will forward her selfies, videos and such to fulfill their contracts.

Once they are in Whiskey Creek, Aja meets all the Amos family. They hit it off well and all is good until morning. Then they run into Grady's ex-girlfriend at breakfast. Well darn now breakfast is ruined and they were not able to get any footage. Grady decided to pack a picnic lunch and go on a kayaking trip so they could film. All is good until Aja gets a text that she ignores then her phone rings. There must be a problem at the practice, so she answers it. But it wasn't her assistant it was Darius. Their parents were in a car accident and were in the hospital, her mom was in the ICU. Aja had to fly back to LA now! Since they were not married via Persian traditions Aja asked Grady to stay in Whiskey Creek. Her parents had to be ok. Aja was always the "good girl" and she lied to them!

This is where I will leave you. If you want to know more you will have to pick up a copy of Brenda Novak's Tying The Knot on August 20, 2024 (or any time after) !

Sadly, I want MORE!! More of Whiskey Creek, more of the love stories or love stories ended! Honestly I feel as readers we follow the romances from the ups and downs and ups and downs and when it comes to a HEA (if there is one) we are only given a few pages! We want MORE!!

Well done, my friend, well done! I could not put this one down!

Meanwhile, Winnie, a friend of Grady's convinces him to join and pairs Grady with Aja, as they're polar opposites. Winnie is sure their union will not last. Secretly, Winnie has eyes for Grady herself. Unfortunately, the tables turn on Winnie as, Grady and Aja begin to fall for one another. That's until, tragedy strikes in Aja's family. Will this situation tear Grady and Aja apart? Read this darling story to find the answer for yourself.

Thoughts:
I enjoyed this cute story about the last single Amos brother, Grady. I would have given it a 5 star rating, but it ended too abruptly in my opinion and could have been a bit longer. Thus, more content would have been lovely. Whiskey Creek is my all time favorite series by Novak. My first series to read of all Ms. Novak's books. I simply adore her beautifully crafted stories.

Narrator: I borrowed the audio book from my local library. The narrator performed an excellent reading of the story. She was very pleasant to listen to.

The author gifted me a copy of the book. In no way was it expected of me to leave a review. I do so of my own volition and do so happily. I recommend this book.

This is the final book in the Whiskey Creek series, but it can easily be read as a stand alone too. In this book we get Grady Amos’ story. Grady is feeling left behind as he watches all his siblings enjoy their full lives with their wives and kids. So when he meets a beautiful woman at a bar he decides to take his chances and try to start a relationship with her. Except all she wants is for him to come star on her reality TV show. He isn’t too excited at first, but he decides he needs to try something new to get what he wants. He doesn’t really want to get married on the show, so he manipulates things to get paired with someone he thinks will never agree to marry him, Aja. Aja is a successful dentist who lives in LA, fresh off a broken engagement. She has no interest in doing a reality TV show either, but her brother can only get on if she agrees to do it. Neither Grady nor Aja wants to take the show seriously, but as they get to know each other things might change. A fun end to a great series!

This story is set in one of my favorite fictional towns. And it wraps up the series by TYING IT UP IN A KNOT 😉
TYING THE KNOT is Grady Amos story. All of his brothers are married and he sees how happy it has made them so he’s thinking it’s something that he should maybe consider. When a friend asked him to be a contestant on her reality show he decides to give it a shot. He’s actually after the producer of the show, but ends up falling for one of the other contestants.
I am definitely going to miss this small town of whiskey Creek It’s definitely a small town I could see myself living in.

That being said I did get an honorable mention in this book so I thank you Brenda Novak for at least letting me live there as a fictional character.

I highly recommend this book and the entire whiskey Creek series.

Grady Amos is the only brother who has not married. All his brothers have found wonderful wives as well as enjoying fatherhood. The Amos brothers had a hard life growing up. Their 18 year old brother stepped in to raise his brothers when their father went to jail. Their mother had died earlier. This left Grady with a struggle when commiting to a women. Join Grady as he decides to go on a reality television show Tying the Knot. Will he be able to find his true love.

There is a bonus story about Olivia. How do you move on to forgive your sister when she marries the man who you thought was going to be your husband. Join Olivia on her journey as she moves through the hurt. Will she be able to bring forgiveness and healing to her family?

Grady has an auto shop in Whisky Creek, CA. He runs into a producer for the reality show Tying the Knot, who thinks he would be perfect for the show.

Aja has a dental practice in LA. Her brother wants to be on Tying the Knot to start his acting career, and they will only take him if she agrees to also be a contestant.

They come from two different backgrounds and aren’t really matches on paper, but they have both been holding out for someone special.

A fun romance for Harlequin’s 75th anniversary.
This is a quick read - about 160 pages

My copy included the Whisky Creek .5 story When We Touch as well (there is an alternative copy with a different story as well).

4.5 ⭐️ I liked this story. It was good and I liked the characters. The ending wasn’t bad, but I wish the book was longer. I’d read a sequel with Grady and Aja. I’d be interested to see how things progressed for Darius too.

I love Brenda Novak's books I have read almost all of them and I started reading her books shortly after her 4th book came out. Whiskey Creek is an amazing series and I am sad to see it end. I laughed at Grady signing up for the reality show so he could get close to the producer and then picking his "wife" but not expecting her to agree. I love how they are perfect for each other even though Aja's family is from India and has a different upbringing. Aja trying to help her brother with his acting actually finds she is falling in love with Grady even though people are trying to put a knot in their relationship.

I ended up being very disappointed. It seemed more like a novella or short story. I wouldn’t have purchased it if I’d known. The ending was abrupt and left me wondering what happened to the rest of the story. I was not interested at all in reading the accompanying book. I wasn’t even sure it was a complete story so I didn’t want to start it. I have to say that I’ve read all of Brenda’s novels and this ranks right up (or down) there with The Messy Life of Jane Tanner. I thought that story line was so far fetched. Brenda is capable of so much more. Now, Tourist Season was fantastic!!! Just my opinion and that only counts for just so much. Apparently many others loved Tying The Knot. Not everyone is going to love everything. I just hope this writing style does not become a trend.

I was so looking forward to this book, the last in the Whiskey Creek series. Unfortunately there were a few issues with the book that kind of disappointed me.

The premise was cute but really short. I would categorize this as more of a short story, barely longer than a novella, rather than the last book in a beloved series. The paperback gave the impression Tying the Knot would be much longer and more involved. Adding When we Touch, a Whiskey Creek Novella by Brenda Novak as a bonus book seemed like padding, although it might be that many people didn't read it in 2012 when it first came out.

I think my most cringe worthy thought is making a big deal about Aja being Persian. OK. I get that there are many traditions that people of Persian ancestry celebrate and sometimes the families can be overbearing, but they consider themselves white and Darius's remark "Does it bother you that he's white?" Would never be said in a text to his sister. It would have been better to have him say "Does it bother you that he's not Persian?". Meaning he didn't share the traditions and holidays of that people.

As I said earlier, this was a cute premise. I was really expecting more about all of the brothers and where they are now. Maybe a reception in Whiskey Creek when Aja is introduced to the brothers and their families as Grady and Aja make the move to one of our favorite fictional towns. I was left hanging about what happened to Grady and Aja's parents. Did they finally see that Aja and Grady were perfect for each other? So many loose ends that could have been tied together to make a fabulous ending.

Don't get me wrong, Brenda Novak is a favorite author and I'll continue to read and enjoy her books. This one just didn't seem to do it for me.

Married After One Date and Ride Share Fun

Aja has just broken up with her childhood friend. Her parents and his have been friends for years. Aja does not want to marry someone she is supposed to marry. She wants to marry someone she loves.
Darius, Aja’s brother, wants to be on a TV reality show called Tying the Knot. Winnie, the producer, says she’ll take Darius if Aja will also be on the show.
Tying the Knot is a reality TV series. Each season either a male or female contestant goes on dates with 3 dates with people of the opposite gender. Then the contestant says who he/she wants to marry. Then, he/she proposes.
It’s the season for the male to make the choice. Grady picks Aja and she agrees to marry him. Darius makes his pick also.
Brenda has set the scene for a fun, light reading romance.
Then, there is a second book included. It’s Mona Shroff’s Road Trip Rivalry. It’s about Kavan and Poorvi that befriend an older lady who is having difficulty talking to a flight attendant on a plane. She is speaking an Indian dialect the two know. They help her get situated and she insists that they each sit by her. Then, the plane lands unexpectedly. They have to get a rental car to drive the rest of the trip. Only standard transmission vehicles are available. And luckily Poorvi can drive a standard transmission car. Kavan cannot drive a standard transmission car. They ride share. The older lady uses the two to take her places she wants to see. The book is a fun ride with an old lady and 2 young people she feels are made for each other.

In this final installment of the Whisky Creek series, which is loved by Brenda Novak fans. it is now Grady Amo’s turn to find love. Grady agrees to be a contestant on a reality show titled “Tying the Knot” The premise is that two people are matched through an intensive interview process as well as psychological testing. Grady, who owns an auto repair shop, gets matched with Aja, a dentist. Aja is trying to find a life outside of the prescribed path her highly professional parents want for her.

They must get married once matched, according to the contracts for the reality show. At first glance they have nothing in common. Yet as time goes on an attraction leads them to realize they may have more in common than they first thought.

This book explores differences in culture, upbringing and career goals through the lens of romance. Grady and Aja begin to realize there may be a spark between them.

This is a fun book to read and I highly recommend it for fans of marriage of convenience romance, as the title states. It gives the reader a glimpse of what happens when two people are thrown together yet find there is more than surface perceptions.

I really enjoy reading Brenda Novak's books. This book is set in Whiskey Creek, which is one of my favourite towns that she has created. The book finds the last of the Amos brothers (Aaron) still living in his family home - alone and wondering what his life would be like if he was able to settle down like his brothers. He is so lonely that he joins a reality dating show to try to impress the producer! Initially it seems like her interest is focused on the success of the show but things definitely change.... I think Aaron ends up being the most surprised of all when he is able to open his heart to a new unexpected future. It was a fun quick romantic read that makes me hope for a sequel.
This book can definitely be read as a stand alone as there are other characters mentioned from previous books but this book centers on Aaron and a few new characters. I have read many of the books in this series and have enjoyed each one and I plan to read them all! Brenda also runs an awesome Facebook group with monthly virtual meetings and fun events that readers are welcome to join :)

Brenda Novak's novel, "Tying the Knot," was really fun! The title is also the name of a fictional tv show, similar to Married at First Sight, but in this case, there are men and women who get to meet three different people who are all psychologically tested by pros and determined to be a good match. Then, the contestant gets to choose which of the 3 they wish to marry on the spot. Not all characters are there for the right reason, though none are nefarious. In one case, a male character, Grady, is interested in the show's producer, Winnie, but is also seeking fame. He chooses a woman least likely to be a good matc, but sometimes the experts are wrong, and the least likely person might be the best match.
Aja refers to herself as Persian American, born in the USA to parents from Iran. Her parents are pushing her to marry a man with the same background, but she knows she is not in love with that man. Her brother is going to participate in Tying the Knot, so she comes along to support him, and somehow becomes Grady's choice! All that followed made for a really sweet, fast paced novel that ended too soon. 4 big smiley stars!

Last of the Whiskey Creek series, and an unusual series book for Novak. Grady Amos is the last of his family not married, at 4o, and is feeling it's time to change that. But at the local bar, he meets a woman who's a producer for the dating reality show, Tying the Knot, and really wants to get to know her. But she thinks he would be great on the show. Aja Kermami is a successful dentist in LA, and has said no to an engagement with a longtime famiy friend, whom everyone expects she would marry. But her brother is auditioning for Tying the Knot, and in accompanying him to the interview, the producer persuades Aja to join to. The hitch - just that. Each bachelor chooses 3 women to date once, and then chooses the one to marry, which they do. But things take a twist, when Grady picks Aja to not ask, since he thinks she will be dull and stuck up about his life. But surprise! Guess what? Nothing goes as planned, especially since this is the Amos crew, and it's reality tv.

Tying the Knot is the final book in Brenda Novak’s Whiskey Creek series. It’s bittersweet as Whiskey Creek is my favorite Brenda Novak series but I’m happy to be back to visit Whiskey Creek and for Grady to get his HEA. Grady agrees to be on a reality, romance TV show (that is supposed to match him with his true love) because he wants to date the show’s producer and is ultimately matched with Aja, who has only agreed to be on the show to help her younger brother.
On paper, they don’t seem to work, but they spend more time together and there are definitely sparks. They have quite a few obstacles to overcome and, in the end, love conquers all. Loved, loved, loved this return to Whiskey Creek, to see a glimpse of the other Amos brothers lives and for Grady to finally find his one true love.

Tying the Knot had a really intriguing premise that kept me flipping pages to find out what happened. It was interesting thinking about the reality behind "reality" t.v. My only real criticism is that the story was much too short and there's all of this build up about how her parents will react to such an unorthodox marriage but then it's never really addressed. I need at least a few more chapters to wrap that up and also let us know what happened with the brother's relationship. Maybe a sequel will happen?

The second story, Road Trip Rivalry, was a cute story with rich cultural detail from the characters' Indian-Irish heritage. Also a short story that was a little too insta-love for me, but a fun read and I would read more from this author.

Thank you to the author for the early review copy.

Grady Amos wasn’t looking for marriage when he decided to be on the reality show Tying the Knot. He was trying to hook up with the producer and thought the show would give him that opportunity. Aja Kermani was only applying for the show to help her brother. Grady and Aja are total opposites. The odds of them making it as a married couple are small and the obstacles standing in their way are many. But some things are worth fighting for.

I know this is the final book in the Whiskey Creek series (sigh), but I wish we would hear more in the future about Grady and Aja, as well as Aja’s brother.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this story about Grady Amos the last brother in the Whiskey Creek saga. So much so I wish and believe it could have been a full book. I felt the ending came too quick leaving the reader with many unanswered questions. This is the first short story in this series.

I was really invested in this book and strongly believe the author could have expanded the story if given more time. I had been looking forward to sitting back and enjoying a full book/story.

Tying the knot is about Grady Amos who goes looking for love and ends up on a reality TV show marrying Aja who just broke up when her best family friend proposed.

All the books in this series are very good. I highly recommend reading one or all of them
