Life in the French Quarter is about to calm down for the off-season, so of course things in Ofelia Archer’s life are about to heat up.
With Halloween right around the corner, all Ofelia wants to worry about is what couple’s costume she and her boyfriend Zach Sully are going to wear to the big reunion party being hosted for her former high school. Then the unthinkable happens and she senses Sully is in danger when he’s out on a case.
Ofelia swoops in, the mightiest witch in the French Quarter, and finds herself saving the love of her life shoulder-to-shoulder with his father.
Zeke Sully is all charm and secrets. He wants to win Ofelia over, but there are shadows chasing him…and dropping bodies all over the Quarter.
Sully doesn’t want anything to do with whatever his father is involved in. Ofelia doesn’t feel she can abandon her future father-in-law. That leads to some strife.
Some business deals can’t be undone, and Ofelia is about to get a glimpse of the seedy business underbelly in New Orleans. The question is, can she fix what’s been broken, or is it already too late?

I’m not done reading this yet, but if it isn’t a 5 ⭐️ I’ll update later. However, I’m fairly certain I’ll love it just like all of Lee/Hart’s books.

I’m nearly always on the main character’s side in the books I read, but Ofelia complains about most people and sometimes it’s annoying, because gee Fe, maybe they aren’t the problem and all I see is the common denominator and that’s you. Perhaps she should spend more time around positive people. Well, I suppose that isn’t her fault because she’s just trying to help and in order to get the bad guys off the streets in the French Quarter, she needs to expose herself to unsavory characters.

I’m 37% through this and I am already hooked. What’s going on with the mimes? What are they up to? Who are they after? Are they just a distraction from the real power person? When the mimes were first introduced, I had the thought that maybe they CAN’T talk. Maybe a higher power has their voices locked away and plans to use them for something nefarious.

I’ll find out soon.

I finished reading this and I’ll still give it the five stars. I feel the wrap up of the “bad guy” was a bit anticlimactic though. It seemed so quick and wasn’t drawn out at all. Ofelia thought up what to do to solve the problem and then poof, a couple paragraphs later and problem solved.

I’m glad the French Quarter is safe again.

My next read is Frosted Plum Fears (Claire's Candles Cozy Mystery Book 9) by Agatha Frost. Book 10 “Double Espresso Deception” in Claire’s Candles will be released April 23, 2024.

Couples costume conundrum

Just a quick note: why couldn't Sully heal himself by shifting once roused??? He doesn't appear to use this shifter ability and instead relies on Ofelia to provide potions.. plot pothole?? Still a great read!

*******SPOILER ALERT*******
***PLOT INFO INCLUDED***

With a Halloween reunion heading her way, Ofelia is determined to make the mean girls pay by having the hottest fiancé and most amazing couples costume... Sully is mildly confused by her intensity over such seemingly petty issues, but Felix and later Oscar soon spill the hidden beans...

Meanwhile, Sully heads off to see to a dead body following a call, but shortly after he leaves, Ofelia is overwhelmed by a sense he's in trouble and rushes after him.

Spooky mimes appear to distract her from her purpose, and when she finds a wounded, unconscious Sully, he's surrounded by more... blasting them away, a large, sleek black panther appears only to shift into a naked older man...

It's her father-in-law to be, Zeke, who had also felt Sully go down, and now, on their very first meeting, she's seen his penis... it's not the best start to their relationship!

As they try to resolve the mysterious mimes purpose beyond murdering random street people, its clear Zeke is hiding something even if its not that penis!!

Can Ofelia and Sully get to the bottom of it before the intended victim is murdered?

Can they ever agree on a couples costume?

Decent but have read better...

I love these characters and this series. I have for a long time. However, I found this book a little on the creeper side of them. They had a fairly easy case of who had done it and how to fix it. There wasn't much twisting and turning, and there wasn't much of a mystery there. All those considered, what bothered me the most was the sleaze-ball creeper attitude of Sully's Dad. That just was gross. However, the book carries the previous stories so you can keep up with everyone and I feel you'd be lost, or not understanding everything, later on because you skipped this one. It's still a great read and I do recommend it.

A Perfect Story Arc

Ofelia is wrenched suddenly by a fear for Sully. When his father shows up, neither she nor Sully is aware that Zeke/ Topher is in deep trouble. Despite his antagonistic attitude Ofelia can’t let it go that a local is trying to kill him.

Overall, this entire story had a strong rhythm , an easy comfortable flow and large points of growth for characters.

Amusing and entrancing, this installment gives a strong peak into the growth of Ofelia and Sully. Best of all is Oscar’s healing

I love this Author

This series as well as all the others are so much fun. I’ve read all of them. The characters are so fun and they have good hearts. They have great families and their adventures are always interesting. There isn’t rampant sex scenes so these are a good read for most everyone. I’ve read each series from the beginning and am sad to read the last, hoping there might be more written or a spinoff series at least. I always look forward to the next book being released.

Excellent Read

Excellent story, excellent love story and excellent character development throughout this series and when new ones join each book. I can visualize each character not only the way they look but also their mannerisms and see their personalities. That is what makes this author one of my favorites. Her books pull me into the story and I feel a part of it right along with my favorite characters. Read this book after you read the first 12.

Wicked, romantic and hilarious

This series is a must read if you love reading stories involving witches, shifters and the paranormal world. The author mixes murder with wit and writes a story full of twist and turns. I look forward to each of her books. This is one author that you can find listed in my calendar for new release datesand where I plan my week so that I can take a day or two to read her next story.

Witch Mime is Magic

Join Ophelia and Sully as they try to find out why the Quarter has mimes who are murderers and who might have sent them. Along the way we will also meet Sully’s father, what a delight, but don’t worry because all the regulars will show up in this adventure as well and the snark will still be flying. I recommend you get this book so that you can ride the adventure along with out faithful friends.

Mimes! Nope!

Mimes are creepy! They don't talk and follow you. Ya, no don't like them. We also didn't realize Zacks dad was an ass. He is just wow, just wow. I am speechless, how do you not support your kids in what they want to do. I'm also glad Ophelias dad is doing better. Now on to the next adventure!💙💚

Ofelia does it again!

Celeste, evil developer witch with an eye on a property that is home to an Audobon park is not happy when the environmentalists quash her plans. How did she not see that coming?

Any rate, she seems to think Sully's father should pay for her poor planning.

Ofelia has other ends in mind!

Crazy family

No wonder Sully can deal so well with Ophelia’s family. It’s because his family is crazy too. And of course, they come with their own brand of trouble when showing up in New Orleans. Another fun story

Mimes ARE creepy

The White Walkers are worse, though and I wonder how long this is going to be dragged out. It was nice to meet Zacks father. The parallel between the parental situation is interesting. Celeste was a boring villain and the end anticlimactic.

creepy mimes

This was another interesting story from the Speakeasy crew. It was fun being introduced to Sully’s dad. The story didn’t have as much of a plot this time and was a bit bland. I’ll still read the next book.

Continue to enjoy this series. We meet Sully's father in this one and he is a creep. He brings trouble with him when he comes to town. The story is a little creepy also but you stay current on all the characters so a good read.

Mimes the word

Of all the things Ofelia could imagine, murderous mimes never hit her list. At least until multiple mimes show up in the Quarter and innocents are being killed. Who is creating them, and why?

Creepy mimes

An attack by magically-created evil mimes starts the story, and brings in Zach's father, who is a real jerk. The threat to other people means Ofelia has to fight.
Funny read.
