Houses are burning in fire, black smoke billowing from the city's marbel minarets and temple domes. The stench of rotting corpse is everywhere. Delhi is a raging Inferno. This is the seventh burning of Delhi and no one shall be spared. As the Company legions and the Liberation Army meet face to face a carnage is inevitable. And amidst this bloodbath are people who are changing the fate of Hindustan, each having their own vendetta. In this carnage stands one man, Mastaan, protecting his love and fighting for his motherland. This is the final chapter of the haunting tale of 1857, Delhi.

'Delhi' is the third book in the acclaimed 'Delhi Trilogy'. A chronicle of love, loss, greed and war. The book used one of the darkest times of Indian history, the era of 1857 as the main setting of the story. A well crafted storyline that weaves the brutality and pain of war into a fine mesh where the characters are caught off-guard. Several different plots are running parallel in this book with many characters here and there but each plot is arranged immaculately. I like the emotional touch in the plots and how every character has his or her own story to tell. This is entirely a plot driven book and I wish I could see more character development. Although I liked the plot building, I was confused at times about the timeline.

The writing is beautifully poignant. It's fluid and poetic. But what I liked most is the voice of Delhi, Delhi having its own character is interesting. The narration was good with a slight hint of philosophy. Writing quality is also good. Overall I enjoyed it.

Review:
The book is set on the time period of 1857, India's First War of Independence, The Great Mutiny. And describes the battles in author's interpretation of it through some unknown warriors and patriots from both sides. The book is a mixture of historical fiction with some magical elements. As there's a century old curse, a djinn, some amazing unforgettable characters, patriots , wars, and a beautiful tragic romance and the play of fate.

The book is the third part of Mastaan's story and starts right after where it ends in the second book. Though in the beginning the author gives enough summary to understand where the story is now, it will be a better and amazing experience to start from the first book.

It's a historical fiction so it is a tragic story as we all know. And all through the book the story establishes the lines from it's very own -

"Human endeavour is perhaps the most potent force in the world....
But what it cannot change... is what has been written eons ago.
Authored by hands unknown to man... inscribed in permanent ink.
The inexplicable story of time.
Scripted before time began."

The first thing that I love about the book is the author's writing style and the perfect pace of the story. Both of these two makes the book a captivating page turner.

Second thing I love is how the author gives us the city Delhi's pov in the very beginning of every chapter. And through each we get to see how much pain and grief the city's been gone through. But also how after everything he still get up from the ashes with all the diverse popularity and rich culture.

The last thing I love and enjoy the plot itself. So there's nothing to complain in the book and also the overall series. Definitely a great one and would love to recommend to all.

Delhi : city of the blood Gates is the third and final installment of Delhi Trilogy by author Vineet Bajpai.

What I liked about this book is that despite not having read the previous two installments, it doesn't make me lose the base of the story. The author weaves in essential backstory at the beginning, allowing me to understand the relationships and events that shaped the narrative. From Mastaan's love interest, Fay, to the heart-wrenching tragedy involving her sister Sujata.

The historical aspect of the book is impeccably researched and presented. Mastaan Pandey's portrayal as a great warrior during the 1857 Indian Rebellion is gripping and authentic. The author's attention to historical detail adds a layer of realism to the narrative.

As readers follow Mastaan's journey, they are not only entertained but also educated about a significant chapter in India's struggle for independence. The book not only captures the grand scale of the rebellion but also sheds light on the human stories, making history relatable and unforgettable.

Overall, this book leaves an indelible mark on the minds and hearts of its readers, as it reminds them of the strength and resilience of the people who fought for their freedom and the courage of those who dared to challenge the status quo. The novel's emotional depth, captivating storytelling, and rich historical backdrop ensure that it becomes a timeless classic that resonates with readers across generations.

This book takes the reader to the world of war where everything is mind games and politics.

The book focuses on the war that takes place in Delhi. There are two sides to the story. The story of Mastaan and the story of Fay. It’s sad that they both were separated throughout the story. But despite that, all they can think of is the safety of each other.

It is a slow start as there are a lot of characters. But once the reader familiarises with the characters the pages turn quickly. The author has highlighted friendships and families in this book, which brings warmth to the harshness of the war.

It is a wonderfully written book and is worth reading.

India, a country rich in culture and history, has many unknown tales ingrained in its mythology. These tales of brave heroes, heavenly conflicts, and fantastical animals go beyond simple pleasure by exploring eternal themes and offering insights into universal human experiences. The ideas and beliefs of past civilisations are also preserved in mythology, giving us a window into their bygone ages.

Recent authors have given the Mahabharata and Ramayana new vitality by examining the travels of minor characters and hitherto discovered facets of great personalities. This modern method demonstrates the development of the stories and their applicability to current storylines. Similar to how historical literature helps us understand historical events while invoking strong emotions. Historical fiction authors shed light on people's inner lives over time and place, exposing historical mysteries and providing readers with complex truths.

Young and emerging authors such as Amish Tripathi, Ashwin Sanghi, Saiswaroopa Iyer, Kavita Kane, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, Kevin Missal, Ira Mukhoty, and others have created enthralling novels anchored in mythology and history. Their efforts demonstrate the stories' lasting appeal and capacity to attract readers via inventive retellings.

In this sense, novelist Vineet Bajpai is influential among the authors above. Readers praised Harappa's earlier trilogy: Curse of the Blood River, Pralay: The Great Deluge, Kashi: Secret of the Black Temple, and three stand-alone volumes. His most recent trilogy novels, Mastaan: The Fallen Patriot of Delhi and 1857: The Sword of Mastaan, have significantly succeeded. Delhi: City of the Blood Gates is the third novel I shall discuss in the trilogy.

I endeavoured to read the previous two novels to get the plot of this one. Here's a short rundown of the other two books:

"Mastaan," tells the story of Mastaan Pandey, a distinguished soldier in the Delhi army and the cousin of Mangal Pandey, a great warrior during the 1857 Indian Rebellion. Mastaan is torn between his feelings for Fay, his unit commander's sister, and his loyalty to the English. As the uprising against the East India Company advances across the city of Dilli, Mastaan must make a difficult decision that may affect the fate of his friends, fellow citizens, and the entire country. By blending imaginary people with genuine events, this work of historical fiction brilliantly illustrates the war for independence and the turbulent times. The author expertly catches the essence of the time and prepares the reader by providing vivid descriptions and well-executed action sequences. Even though the plot occasionally drags, it establishes the historical setting and mood well. "Mastaan" transports readers to another era and gives a riveting experience owing to its intriguing protagonist and detailed depiction of the Sepoy Mutiny. "1857: The Sword of Mastaan," the second book in Vineet Bajpai's "Mastaan" trilogy, is a historical fiction set during India's first war for independence, and it's just as good as the first. After the execution of Mangal Pandey sparked an insurgency against the East India Company, several princely kingdoms joined the independence war. The company uses this movement to justify its infamous Divide and Rule tactic, which divides the mutineers along caste and religious lines. The main character is divided between his love for his nation and his desire to protect Fay and see her safely out. Three tenacious British generals are in charge of the army simultaneously.

Continuing the trilogy, the third book, Delhi: City of the Blood Gates, is a wholesome entertainer.

The novel Delhi - City of the Blood Gates explores the turbulent life of Mastan, a dervish caught up in the mayhem and brutality during the Indian Rebellion 1857, also known as the Sepoy Mutiny.

It is admirable how well Bajpai brought the historical events of 1857 to life. The vivid descriptions of wars, atrocities, and the daily sufferings of Delhi's citizens during this chaotic time are abundant throughout the book's pages. Additionally, Bajpai is a master at precisely developing his characters. As he navigates a collapsing environment, Mastan develops as a complex and appealing character who powerfully evokes the reader's pity.

Delhi - City of the Blood Gates has intellectual and historical value, but it also has enthralling writing that draws readers in. The language of Bajpai is both poetic and evocative, effortlessly evoking a setting and a feeling that lingers long after the reader has finished the book and has left.

What did I like:

Meticulously researched and vividly depicted historical setting.
Well-developed and complex characters that capture the reader's interest.
Lyrical and evocative prose that immerses the reader in the story.
A thrilling narrative filled with suspense, action, and adventure.

What could have been better:
The pacing of the book occasionally felt like it needed to be faster.
Some plot twists were predictable, diminishing the element of surprise.

In conclusion, Delhi - City of the Blood Gates is a masterfully written book that appeals to those who enjoy historical fiction, fantasy, and adventure. Even after the last page has been turned, one's recollection of this superb narrative piece remains. It is a superbly written, captivating book that will satisfy those who enjoy historical fiction, fantasy, and action. Get ready to enter a universe that will stay in your mind long after you've turned the last page.

Delhi City of the Blood Gates is written by Vineet Bajpai. This is the third and last book in the Delhi Trilogy. It is a fictional story dedicated to the forgotten heroes of 1857, India's First War of Independence.

The story is about a rebellion Mastaan Pandey, a soldier in Delhi Army during 1857. He falls for an English Lady, Fay. The story entails during the time when Delhi was going through a difficult time.

The story drifts us back to Pre-Independence era. I felt as if every event was happening in front of my eyes. The suspense and mystery keeps us turning the pages at an amazing speed.

It is a historical fiction. The mix of history with fiction makes it great story. In between we find some lines on shayaari which enhances our reading experience. It is a well researched and well written book. The author has skillfully bought the events of Sepoy Mutiny alive once again. The language used is simple and easy.

Whenever I read Indian history, there are a lot of stories and battles that amaze me. The way invaders destroyed the golden Bharat and how the Britishers looted the golden sparrow. Besides the political motives, some hidden stories have been lost. Many tales are buried in the past that could inspire new generations to bring them to life. "THE DELHI TRILOGY" is one such set of books that presents a fictional account of an 1857 Indian national rebel.

The first part of this book is "Mastaan," the second is "1857," and the third and final installment is "Delhi." The book is based on historical facts woven together with fictional characters and their supposed effects. In synopsis, the story revolves around a martinet named MASTAAN, who was initially loyal to the Indian movement but circumstances forced him to side with the Britishers. The book "Delhi" concludes this tale of betrayal and the aftermath of the mutiny.

The book is filled with goosebumps-inducing action scenes and strategic plots. Initially, the story may feel more fictional, but as you progress further, the core of the mutiny becomes apparent. While I haven't read the first two parts, the initial pages provide a synopsis that makes it easy to relate to the book. The whole book is perfectly arranged, and I stumbled upon some intriguing moments that made it a good read.

The ending of this story is both interesting and satisfying. If you enjoy a mix of action and historical fiction, this book is a must-read. Additionally, the covers of this series are beautiful and eye-catching.

So this is the book who deserves all the love of everyone out there! Author has done great work, i felt really thrilled to read The Final Chapter of the Haunting Tale of 1857 and the Unconquerable Bandookbaaz,i generally don’t read historical books but this was really a nice experience for me!

So the book immediately grabbed my attention and created a sense of urgency.
The clash between the Company legions and the freedom army adds a layer of tension and conflict to the story. This book is all about the battle between opposing forces, with high stakes and the fate of the Mughal capital hanging in the balance. The mention of the dreaded God, Nikhaal-bhagvaan, descending upon the freedom army brings an element of supernatural and divine intervention into play. It adds an intriguing twist to the narrative and raises the stakes even higher.

Now, let's talk about the characters. The unhinged Laal-Pret and the self-styled Christian crusader, Theo Metcalfe, that was fascinating and complex individuals. Their presence in the story suggests that there are hidden agendas and sinister motives at play.

But amidst all this chaos and darkness, there's Mastaan, the dervish, warlord, shaayar, falcon, courtesan, purohit, and djinn. What a diverse and intriguing cast of characters! Their role as the protector adds a glimmer of hope and heroism to the narrative.
Overall, this final chapter of the haunting tale of 1857, Delhi, promises to be an intense, suspenseful, and epic read .

Delhi: City of the Blood Gates - The Final Chapter of the Haunting Tale of 1857 and the Unconquerable Bandookbaaz by Vineet Bajpai is the third book in the Delhi Trilogy. I would recommend you to read the first two books, you would not like to miss the action. However, if you read this book without reading the first two, you will know what happened in the first two books, as the major events along with their characters have been aptly covered in the beginning.
The struggle for freedom was at its peak in 1857 and those who were fighting and all of the Indians thought that they had a chance to get their country back from the English. The war has created total chaos and many players are trying to benefit from this situation.
Among all this madness, Mastaan, the protagonist and a multi-faceted character who has many shades of his character, will have a tall task to keep the fight for freedom going. He will find this more challenging than ever before and will have to fight enemies – both known and unknown. Who will win is not sure but one thing is sure there will be a bloodbath and a lot of people are going to suffer.
What will happen in the end? Who will have the upper hand in the struggle? Will Mastaan’s efforts and sacrifices will go in vain? Is there a hope for the freedom fighters? To know the answers, you will have to read this engrossing tale which is fast-paced and action-packed.

Delhi : City of the Blood Gates is the third book in the Delhi trilogy. It's one of the most amazing historical fictions that I've read! The best part of this book is that it provides an excerpt, more like a summary of the first two parts of the trilogy which are Mastaan : The Fallen Patriot of Delhi and 1857 : The Sword of Mastaan.
This book is about bloodshed, sufferings and the final chapter of the haunting tale of 1857, Delhi. All the happenings and facets in the trilogy revolve around and centre down to one person : a dervish, a warlord, a shaayar, a falcon, a courtesan, a purohit, and a djinn—Mastaan who is a fictional soldier and an active participant in the Indian freedom struggle. The entire tale is engrossed with the raging sea of Company legions conflicting against the freedom army!
The intriguing cover of this book persuaded me to pick it up! All the events have been summarised accurately with dates and locations where they were held. The language pattern followed in this book is really simple. I'd highly recommend this book for beginners who are enticed with history and if you're looking for a historical fiction which a pinch of thrill in it, then you should definitely go for this one!

Why I took this book?
🗡️ The cover and blurb of this book was so intriguing.
🗡️ This book is a tribute to all unsung heroes of first war of independence-1857.
🗡️ I have heard a lot of praises for the first two books of this trilogy.

✅ The best part of this book is its descriptive narration. The author skillfully takes the readers to a journey through the enriching medieval life of Delhi.
✅ A wonderful blend of history, fantasy, mystery and thriller.
✅ The characters where developed wonderfully with so much details especially, Mastaan.
✅ As we know Indians faced so much atrocities during those days because of British government and its officers. This book portrays such cruelties in detail.
✅ The author succeeds in making us feel the pain and struggles faced by the common people of India under the reign of British.
❎ I felt the narration a bit sluggish in between. I am not sure if anyone else felt like that.

📌 You'll definitely love it if you love reading historical fiction. For me it was an okay-okay read. But yes, I am planning to read the first two books as the theme and story is promising

I recently read the 'Delhi - city of the blood Gates' by author Vineet Bajpai and I must say that it has become my favourite. This is the book 3 of Delhi trilogy.
I suggest everyone to read the first two books also as they are really excellent but if you have not read them yet then author has summarised those two books for our convenience at the beginning of this book.

The plot of the book is set in 17th century. Delhi- a city where history whispers, is the plot of the story.

Author has done really excellent job in portraying the characters—they felt so lively that this frictional story felt so real.

I personally think that author has skillfully presented the bravery of those soldiers who fought in 1857 mutiny through this fictional story.

Some scenes are describe so beautifully and lively that I literally felt goosebumps while reading this book.
I must say that this book is a real page Turner.

Author's writing style and lucid language made the book more interesting and unputdownable for the readers.

I really look forward to read more books by the author. This book is highly recommended from my side.

The book "Delhi: City of the Blood Gates" written by the author Vineet Bajpai is the third and final part of the haunting tale of 1857, Delhi. The story is about the first war of Indian independence🇮🇳 in 1857, where the Indian soldiers fought against the British East India company🇬🇧.

Mastaan is a patriot, warrior and poet, who fought against the Britishers to save Delhi. Mastaan's braveness continues in this third book also. The author's narrating style is amazing and the historical events that took place in the year 1857 are given in this book in a very detailed manner.

The author has done more researches on Indian history to write this book. The story is perfectly blended with action, patriotism, love and emotions. Many tragic incidents😥 are briefly described in this book which are heart melting. The book is interesting to read and some appropriate illustrations are added, which are perfect. The book had action, romance, and everything for everyone. Coming from a creative warhorse and genius, it is no surprise that Vineet’s writings hold your attention till the end. I loved the detailed work of this book. Such detailing of what happened during 1857 time, wrapped around a beautiful way.

The book primarily focuses on 1857, it also provides insights into the broader context of the Indian Rebellion and the social and political landscape of that era.
Vineet's writing is known for its meticulous research and engaging narrative style, which brings historical events to life. He draws from various historical sources and personal accounts, painting a vivid picture of the events surrounding the rebellion and the involvement of significant figures.

A novel worth being taught in the schools for its historical authenticity and emphasis on human values. If someone likes history and is interested in reading a fictional take on the 1857 mutiny, please pick this series. You will not be disappointed for sure.

The book was the third and final installment in the series and it was an amazing ending!!!

The story was set in the colonial period and follows the life of Mastaan. His decision to lay his life for his motherland and his fights were all portrayed through this story.

The story progressed in a fast-pace and there wasnt even a single moment of boredom. There were a lot of characters introduced in the first and second books, and all of them crossed paths in this one. Al though this book had little moments with Fay, these moments gave the much needed warmth to the story.

This was one of the best fictional stories set during the colonial period. It is specially set in 1857, when sepoys fought against the British. This has historical importance to Indians. As for the story, it was able to educate the readers about several important events that took place that time, with the story of a fictional man, Mastaan.

Al though the entire series was good, this was my favorite one. It brought forth all the emotions and ended in a great way.

The story of Mastan, a dervish caught up in the chaos and violence of the Indian Rebellion of 1857, commonly known as the Sepoy Mutiny, is explored in the book Delhi - City of the Blood Gates.

In addition to having academic and historical worth, Delhi - City of the Blood Gates also features captivating prose that draws readers in. Bajpai uses beautiful and evocative language that readily conjures up a scene and an emotion that lingers long after the reader has finished the book and left.

The author takes readers to the time just before independence. The book's context is appropriate since understanding historical fiction demands it, and the author wrote it so that I could picture the incidents happening in real life.

To comprehend the tale more well, I must advise reading the first two volumes in the trilogy. Highly advisable for history enthusiasts
