The Reign of Goddesses #0.5

Strings of the Fates

Rate this book
The strings of their fates have been tied together since the beginning of time.
Their souls were meant for one another, but their timelines were never meant to meet. Persephone took on the mantle of the Underworld to save her sisters, a burden she would take on over and over again to protect her family.
Throughout her reign, she is called to the death of only one soul, a soul that is the only thing keeping her tethered to her humanity.
But is the goddess of the Underworld prepared to give up what she sacrificed, her humanity, for the man who could be her soul’s mate?
Strings of the Fates is a novella of Devon and Persephone’s backstory in “Shadows and Vines”.

About the author

C.D. Britt

8 books154 followers
C.D. Britt began her writing journey when her husband told her she needed to use her excessive imagination to write stories as opposed to creating a daily narrative for him. Ever since she penned her first words, life has been a lot more peaceful for him.

She currently resides in Texas where she has yet to adapt to the heat. Her husband thrives in it, so unfortunately, they will not be relocating to colder climates anytime soon.

Their two young children would honestly complain either way.

When she is not in her writing cave (hiding from the sun), she enjoys ignoring the world as much as her children will allow with a good book, music, and vast amounts of coffee (until it’s time for wine).

C.D. Britt is the author of Shadows and Vines and the upcoming book, Sirens and Leviathans.
Both books are part of the Reign of Goddesses series.

Beautiful

A wonderfully written love story. You're really sucked into this world and become attached to the characters. You can feel the weight on Persephone's shoulders, not only for ruling the underworld but also of the lifetimes of losing the one she loves.

Firstly let me start by saying, anyone who HASN'T read any books by this incredibly talented author has done themselves a major disservice! You have no idea what you're missing....I have long had a fascination for the Underworld and especially for Persephone, so these books hit the spot and then some. The author "humanises" these irresistible (to me) characters, she has me mezmerised as if she had put me under hypnosis to keep me riveted from start to finish. In all her books, every single one!

In this book we see a "newly fledged" Queen take up her place as ruler of the Underworld. Not a role she wanted, nor one she's comfortable with but well, with the preceding events, she doesn't have much choice. This is the prequel to the series, described to perfection. What I thoroughly enjoyed, even though I have read the series, this novella captures some events of how and why briefly so a first time reader to this series will have an understanding and be in the loop so everything flows and makes sense.

I loved how the author twisted the plot, how she portrayed Persephone's exterior as one of indifference and cold to the world, ok...the Underwood...and how she's rattled to the bone by a soul so special, it changed her. That special soul, who dies over and over again in the mortal world and who Persephone feels in the very core of her heart, is the driving force behind her decision. See, her sister's Aphrodite and Hecate had been advocating to live in the mortal world to control the ever increasing disasters wraught by man, which Persephone has rejected, until now...

The emotions in this novella are so profoundly descript, so poignant, I felt as though it were I who wore my heart on my sleeve. Beautiful story, beautiful crafted characters, beautiful pacing and beautiful storytelling. Which is nothing new for me, from my first introduction to this author, each time I pick up one of her books, I can kiss the outside world goodbye until I've finished the book. One problem remains however, I'm always left desperate to read more.... what a lovely "problem" that is as I avidly await another installment of WHATEVER this incredible author will produce!

Love this backstory behind Devon and Persephone. We find out they had a history in Shadows and Vines, but we don’t know how far that history goes back or what it entails. This filled in all the gaps and was beautifully written.
