Tribal Honor

Rate this book
Warren Lawson is an elite Tribal Police Officer on the Jericho Nation Reservation in Oregon. A relatively peaceful place, but that’s all about to change.
Marvin Bingham is a man with morals that vastly differ from Warren Lawson's. One man loves to kill; the other does everything he can to avoid killing.
As Marvin claims another victim, he attracts the attention of two twin Native American brothers who want revenge outside the law, two brothers who happen to be very good at killing.
Caught in the middle of three killers, Warren races to keep the peace in his town, a task that grows increasingly difficult as his moral compass is tested unlike ever before. With each twist and turn in the case, Warren contemplates whether the law is worth upholding, or if he is just like the very people he puts behind bars.
Buckle in, as a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into something horrific and complex, leaving the Jericho reservation in the wake of a bloody battle.

Marvin Bingham is a waste of oxygen. That’s one of the nicest statements I can make after reading of his villainy. He is about as evil a protagonist as I’ve ever found in a novel, and there’s a lot of stiff competition there. But Marvin brazenly, boldly defines evil incarnate in “Tribal Honor,” an action/adventure thriller by T.G. Brown.

Warren Lawson is an officer with the Tribal Police in Jericho Nation, Oregon. He’s a complicated mess of a man. When he was young his father taught him to never start a fight, but to always make sure he finished one. The young Warren may have taken that a little too much to heart. Working on the “good” side of the fence, War has also taken his body-building to the same type of extreme. He believes that a law officer should be prepared to risk it all at any moment and his body should be as capable as possible.

So, he’s turned himself into a deadly weapon with Crossfit, weight training, cardio, Krav Maga, Muay Thai, boxing, and assorted other forms of the deadly arts. He also trains regularly with his former special forces brother-in-law. You could probably think of War as a man similar to Steven Seagal or Jean Claude VanDamme in terms of total bodybuilding; ultimate. Extra.

But War is more than just a finely honed machine created to win when challenged. He is a champion of those who are unable to protect themselves. He’s got a deep mind and strong feelings about honor and justice, and he’ll go to any lengths to accomplish his vision of his duty. This desire to always be ready and always be the best helps inspire his physical resilience. He’s going to need everything he’s got as he goes after the reprehensible Marvin Bingham.

Mr. Brown has created an amazingly complex character with Warren Lawson. War knows there’s a thin red line between retribution and revenge. As you read, it’s easy to find yourself toeing up to that line on War’s side. He’s the kind of law enforcement officer who believes the ends justify the means- that it’s okay to color outside the lines if you’re doing it for the right reason. He even puts himself in harm’s way to keep from killing the bad guys- he wants them to pay, not die. But maybe not for the reasons you’re thinking. Inside, he’s tormented by the thought that everything he does may not be for the right reasons.

There’s a darkness lurking in me. Itching to get out. Clawing from the inside…Whispering, Let me out. But I won’t let that darkness win.
Mr. Brown provides a wonderful balance to this dark side. Warren Lawson’s got a biting, sarcastic inner voice that torments him constantly. It’s not only self-deprecating, it excels in absurdity:

Romance has never been my thing. This moment was so romantic, I should have puked like a teenage girl suffering an exorcism. Yet, that didn’t happen. That’s a good thing, right?
Speaking of romance, War isn’t the only amazing character within this storyline. His love interest, Ashley, and his best friend from childhood, Takoda, are both richly developed, likable, and fiercely loyal. His girlfriend has a seemingly innate ability to see beyond the walls, speedbumps, and BS he installs attempting to keep from talking about his feelings. There are also the members of a rather large and opinionated family on the rez. They’re fascinating, tough as nails, and honorable… in their own fashion. They play an integral part in the chaos.

This story reads like a Kung Fu action flick with deeper characters than the average martial arts movie offers. Mr. Brown proves his personal knowledge of numerous martial arts in the various fight scenes he’s written. These fight scenes are graphic and captivating. Each one puts the reader right in the action, feeling the punches thrown, kicks landed, and wrestling holds maneuvered into. This seasoned style and thoughtful writing creates a fast-paced read that won’t let you put it down.

As is common in this genre, action outweighs the need for plausibility at times. Fans of this genre have no problem with this concept if it’s well done and propels the storyline as it does in “Tribal Honor.” Fans of such movies as The Expendables or Die Hard don’t tend to sweat the small stuff. We want action, adventure, thrilling fight scenes, and a sense of justice hard-won in the end. T.G. Brown fulfills those concepts with a clean, crisp economy of words while providing a very satisfying ending.

I highly recommend this novel to fans of action/adventure, thrillers, crime novels, and even romantic suspense with strong characters. Themes of honor, loyalty, revenge, strength, and resilience run throughout this high-speed story. Once you set foot into the world of Warren Lawson’s Jericho Nation, You’ll find it tough to believe that this is a debut novel. I’m hoping for more from these fierce characters.

I was so excited to get to read this book, since I’ve had the chance to get to know Tyler a little bit through our gym. I loved the way he was able to tie his personal experiences into the book. Being a native Oregonian, it was also neat to see how he tied in places I knew and grew up going to.

As a reader, you develop a liking for Warren Lawson (the main character) pretty early on. Tyler did a great job of giving you enough information about Warren throughout the book that you can relate more to him, as a human who is flawed and capable of making mistakes. He is someone who still wants to do good in this world though, despite his conflicting thoughts internally. It also makes you wonder why he feels the way he does about his “darkness”. What makes him think he actually has it in him? And will Ashley be able to help him through that?

Marvin Bingham is a great villain. You hate him for what he does and want to see him find justice. I remember there being parts of the story where I was very worried that he would get away with all he’s done, and those families would get no justice. There is a small piece of me who also feels bad for Marvin. He is a prime example of what a lack of mental health support, and family support, can do. It makes you wonder if things were different when Marvin was younger, if maybe he would have turned out differently. The same could be said about Cardwell. I didn’t want to see him meet his end in that way. I wanted to see him face the music. However, I wonder if things would have turned out differently for him as well, if his childhood would have been different. Would he have become a cop? Would he have found and married Caroline? We will never know.

I am so excited to get to read the next T.G. Brown novel, Jericho Burning. I can’t wait to see what Warren gets himself into this time, and if he is able to save not only his loved ones, but also Jericho Nation itself.

If I could give this more stars I would, I loved this book. The characters were authentic and had flaws and subject to unimaginable stress. Yet the hung to the job they had to do and the code to which they lived by. The story was set on an Indian reservation where a man (not really what I’d like to call him because he falls far short of that description) is slowly letting a woman die with no medical attention though needing it badly. All for the sake of money so he can buy more booze. The law gets involved and two officers Takoda and Lawson put their lives on the line more than once to no kill anyone unless they absolutely had to do so. Lawson meets a young lady, Ashely who is strong and dedicated to him more than he knows what to do with. Takoda has a wife who wants her husband home safe and sound every night. Not much to ask, right? But these two guys get into so much trouble and still always do the right thing is honorable. The book is hard to put down without just another chapter and then I’ll go to bed scenario. Definitely want more from this author. Looking for the same guys and more cases. These two officers and the women behind them are good together.

The storylines are very explicit in defining the law enforcement techniques front to back!

Thought the story could have been a little more interesting if not too explicit in defining certain situations! Too, I thought I was purchasing another western phenomenon, but being retired law enforcement, I enjoyed following these officers in their pursuit of the bad guys!
The storylines were interesting to follow, but I believe some of the situations were a little lengthy in their descriptiveness of each and every encounter! The character selections were interesting in their respective roles, and that enhanced the reading ability throughout the entire series of devilment!
If you enjoy law enforcement techniques, then you will enjoy this series of ongoing actions, as the Author is very descriptive in his accounting of each encounter!
I recommend this book to those who enjoy seeing the good guys pursue the guys for being so unruly, defying the laws of the just, and reckless encounters of law abiding individuals! Try it! You just might like it!!!😃

This is the first book I have intentionally chosen to read in this genre. It is not a genre I would typically gravitate towards. I purchased the book; it came with annotation supplies, but I have never annotated any books. It took me approximately two weeks to open it, and today I decided to visit a coffee shop and begin reading the book, with the intention of annotating it. I was hesitant to start the book because I was concerned about not liking it and having to explain my reasons to others. As I sat at a corner of the coffee shop,

Upon opening the book, I was immediately transported to the middle of the action, as the author’s vivid writing style immerses the reader in the narrative. It is as if someone is recounting a true story, making the experience feel authentic and relatable. The book maintains a steady pace, building momentum throughout. There are moments that evoke profound emotions, both uplifting and poignant, while others leave the reader momentarily stunned. This story is so well-written, I can’t wait to read the next book!

If I compared Tribal Honor to wine, it would be a 2018 Gran Moraine Chardonnay with heavy Longmire overtones blending perfectly with hints of Yellowstone and a bold James Lee Burke finish!
Based on a true story(?), T.G. Brown (his other car is a police cruiser) scored a triple with this gritty, hard-hitting thriller set in central Oregon State.

MC tribal police officer Warren Lawson struggles with inner demons and a shaky moral compass as he tracks down a serial killer with demons of his own (and a couple of voices). Tribal Honor is a small-town thriller with a tangled cast of characters. T.G. Brown takes writing to the next level, eliciting raw emotion and empathy with his craft while spinning a realistic narrative that takes the reader on a virtual ride-along.

If you or someone you know is a diehard fan of Burke, Hillerman, Longmire, and Yellowstone, they will enjoy this book!

I found this to be a very emotional read.

We all know that elder abuse occurs and that some carers are highly neglectful, but it doesn't really "touch" us unless we know the people involved.

T.G. Brown made me feel as though I knew Suzanna Holt and her family. I felt their pain and their righteous anger; their need for justice in a world where the odds were stacked against them.

If nothing else, Tribal Honor should give you cause for thought.

I received a free copy of Tribal Honor through BookSirens, and have chosen to leave a review.

Fascinating journey of one tribal officer’s challenge to keep peace in his community, without losing the trust of those he serves. Brown’s background and expertise serve this thriller well as he showcases realistic circumstances that allow us a peek into how and why officer Warren Lawson juggles peril that could make or break his career. Crucial moral dilemmas, as well as mental and physical battles, set the perfect tone that keeps the pace roaring and pages flipping. Highly recommended!

This book has to be the most incredible work I’ve read since I got into reading. I love how you really felt like you knew all of the characters. I also love how the author is effortlessly able to send the reader on a roller coaster of emotions in such a short period of time. If you like crime novels I would most definitely recommend reading this

I loved this book so much! It had just the right amount of thriller, action, and romance! The author did a great job with the plot without it being too predictable, I found myself not wanting to put this down. It would be a great movie! I hope there will be another one on the way!

Incredible!

This novel was so good! Full of action, drama, and a twist I didn’t see coming! Reading a story from an actual officers point of view gave it something extra for me. This was one I couldn’t put down! Can’t wait for the next!

This was such a fun, local read as LE! In addition to supporting a fellow officer, I loved knowing the exact locations of the cities, agencies, and roads. However… it really made me realize I need to step into some more DT classes! I can’t wait to dig into book #2. Great story. 10/10
