Entire towns destroyed. Massive cities underwater. A family desperate to find each other.
Two days after a megaquake and tsunami combine to wreak havoc on the Pacific Northwest, Clint and his daughter are together at last. Instead of retreating to safety, they’re on a one-way mission into the heart of the disaster. Chaos on the streets, impassable routes, and the worst of human nature combine to thwart them at every turn. But Mika’s mom is missing, and they won’t stop until they find her.
Daphne stares out at the water engulfing the financial district, body shivering from the cold, stomach hollow from thirst and hunger. With no food or shelter, she’s forced to attempt an escape. She might drown before she even leaves the parking deck, but she doesn’t have a choice. This time, the only way out is through.
Deluge is book two in the FaultLines series, an apocalyptic disaster thriller series following ordinary people struggling to survive when a megaquake plunges the Pacific Northwest into chaos.
This book goes through a lot of the aftermath from the big earthquake/tsunami. I think they do a good job at hinting at the kind of terrible things will happen and how bad people might act without making it TOO traumatic. A lot of little miracles happen and i imagine in a real disaster the ones who survive probably would have similar miracles while so many others just die :(
This book 2 continues what is, so far, a good series. It is well-written, with description of the harrowing experiences by many of the characters being particularly good. Mika, though, was starting to grate on me a bit. I get that she is a teenager that has been through a terrible ordeal and has the uncertainty about her mother's fate and the future in general weighing on her. But, her fixation with finding her mother NOW and no tolerance of any obstruction to that goal was unreasonable and dangerous. It was even more incredible that her father tended to indulge this insistence even in the face of obvious peril. I also understand Daphne being fed up with all of the challenges she has faced, but foolish to refuse a bus ride to where she believes her husband and daughter are located just because the last bus ride ended poorly. Not sure how she thinks going it alone was better. I did like there were kind and decent people like Mitch with his boat, Samuel with his torch and Jocelyn with her orange.
As always, I enjoyed this post apocalyptic book, these types of stories are my favorite genre. Well, this series is not super exciting or fast paced. I like the authors writing style. Nicely descriptive and easy to read. While Clint, Daphne and Mika all seem to be inexplicably uncommonly lucky . I enjoy a good survivor story. Mika is a very annoying character, but I have to remember that she is just a child. I will go on and read the third one for sure .
Liked th chapters changing yo a different person. Short chapters make for fast reading and difficulty putting BB the book down. As the title indicates, the family had Murphy with them constantly. .most incidents were believable and I'm glad to have survived the Northridge quake.
This is a second book of a trilogy set, does end on a cliffhanger, which I knew before starting. The author has did her homework about what the events that would occur in a natural disaster. The characters are well developed and settings. The words flow, keeps you interested in the books. Here comes #3
When the mega quake does hit the Seattle area, I hope they have read this. Mika is just as expected, headstrong, a will of her own, won't listen to anything that is not going the way she wants it to and could use some tough love, ie over dad's knee. But it seems things are looking up for the moment, so let's get on to the next book.
Most of us cant imagine being in an Earth Quake. So being in an Earth Quake followed by a Tsunami is unimaginable. This is a story of that kind of disaster. In the story you will meet the Redshaw family who are trying to find each other after such a disaster.
Borrowed this eBook with Kindle Unlimited on March 26, 2024, The West Coast gets hit by 9+ earthquake. Read Kindle book using Alexa audio asset. A Family of three tries to reunite and survive. It is harsh but l am glad to live away from quakes and ocean floods in Minnesota, although tornados/storms/cold can be minor problems. Read Kindle book using Alexa audio asset.
Love a well done disaster story and these are totally satisfying, realistic character reactions and circumstances so it doesn’t feel outlandish while still being super gnarly painting the picture of a natural disaster like the Big One™️. Single star redacted because I wish this was one big book as per usual
This applies to all books in this series. It certainly wasn't the best short series I read nor was it the worst. It followed a basically simple formula of following the actions and reactions of the main characters to a Pacific coast earthquake and subsequent tsunami. I many ways it was rather pedestrian and something less then a "thriller"
I really enjoyed this apocalyptic thriller. The plot came at you fast and violently. Having just vacationed near Port Angeles I could vividly relate to the disaster that unfolded in this area. It was easy to relate to the main characters and the horror they experienced. I believe anyone that enjoys apocalyptic Stories would enjoy this book.
Deluge by Harley Tate is absolutely incredible. I felt every emotion and loved every chapter. The tension, the danger, the heartbreak, and the hope all hit so hard. Following Clint, Mika, and Daphne through this apocalyptic chaos is gripping and immersive. The writing makes you live the disaster alongside them. Brilliant storytelling.
This second book is about survivors trying to find help, home, and missing family members. It's a very quick read but it doesn't reach the conclusion you are looking for. There is another book to come in the series...sigh.
This is a read it in one go book there is so much going on and it’s impossible to put it down. I’ve read a few of Harley Tate and they have all been very good and as the ending of this book doesn’t finish the story it looks as if there is another book, I hope.
Trying to find your family when there is destruction everywhere. Never give up. But get the tissues out. You have happiness and grief at the sheer devastation that this Author describes so well. Would make a great movie.
Awful. I read and excused the improbabilities and lack of what a person living in that area would have known in book one only to find even worse examples in book two. On top of that was the worst cliff-hanger I’ve encountered. Obviously I won’t be reading book three! Read at your own displeasure.
Riveting and believable. Memorable characters. Hard to put down once you begin reading it. Not based on nuclear war or asteroids but natural disasters.
Progress is made but it is made slowly. It is hard to keep going when human nature keeps seeing the worse case scenario. Not knowing if Daphne is still alive. And she barely is as she has another close brush with disaster.
This is such a great series!! All I want is to see this family united again. They’ve all been through so much. The horrors of what they’ve been through will probably take years of therapy to heal. I ordered book three and can’t wait to read the conclusion!
Continues the story from book one, but is even better, because it focuses more on the three main characters and what they're seeing and feeling and living through.
It's sad how other's will try and benefit through other's tragedies. I didn't like how the ending dropped off. I already know they will find each other eventually.
