Sweet Monster Treats #6

Twins for the Wild Orc

Rate this book
A drunken, one-night stand with a wild Orc turns into a life-long commitment -- because I’ve given birth to his twin babies!

And now I can’t find the green, horned father of my children, which is really my own fault. He came on strong, calling me his “Bride” and I got scared at the idea of marrying a ferocious Orc. After he passed out next to me, snoring loudly (because he’d finished for the seventeenth time) I slipped out of the hotel bed and sprinted off into the night.

A year later, our babies are three months old and it’s nearly impossible, caring for the needs of Orc twins all on my own.
My babies need their daddy. And maybe . . . I need him too?

After hiring a private investigator, I’ve found the exact commune he lives on in the wilds of Maine.

And I’m bringing him two sweet treats for Halloween -- his twin sons.

"Twins for the Wild Orc" is the sixth sweet and steamy monster romance that makes up the Sweet Monster Treats multi-author, shared-world collection.
Each book is a standalone, containing its own 'Happily Ever After', and can be read in any order -- (but the series is likely enjoyed most when read in order, as characters may appear throughout the stories!)

Drew has a drunken one night stand with an Orc hottie that she picked up in a bar, but things get a little weird when he mumbles something in his sleep about kidnapping her and keeping her in his cabin. Not taking any chances, Drew slips out of his hotel room and books it back to California, only to learn she’s pregnant two months later.

A year later and Drew’s a single mom to two precious baby Orcs, and is on her way to hunt down her man. When she shows up at the commune where he lives, the Orcs believe she’s just there to drop her babies off and move on, but she refuses. She won’t leave her sons and she’s there to let their father know she’s ready to be his Bride.

Honestly… My hopes were not high going into this, but I’m not mad at it. It’s not the best thing I’ve ever read, but it kept my attention and has me intrigued to see how the other books are 🤣

Yikes, what was this? I really don't get the high rating.

I did not like how antagonistic the MMC was to the FMC for most of the book, and there was really no apology for it. Boo.

Plus the whole creepy Bride thing...no. Gross.

Why did I take so long to read this book. It was such a super cute read. There is nothing wrong with a second chance romance. There is especially nothing wrong with a low drama, high angst read that makes you want to freaking swoon.
The wild Orc Whelan was a fabulous father and a fabulous lover.
Our FMC Drew runs away after a one night stand with a wild orc who offers to kidnap her and drag her by the hair. Now fast forward a year later and she has now given birth and is raising orc twin sons alone. It’s brutal but she believes she can do it on her own. Until after careful consideration and research 🔬 she’s ready to find a way to make the father of her children all hers.
What a great read after an exceptional long day of work.

Drew was in Maine a little over a year ago for a writer retreat. The night before she was supposed to fly back to California, she dressed up and went to the hotel's bar. She meets an orc named Whelan there and sparks fly. The two spend the night together passionately but before Whelan falls asleep, she hears him talking about kidnapping her to be his bride. Drew panics and sneaks away. She flies home and realizes a few weeks later that she is pregnant even though she had been on birth control. She is nervous to find her baby daddy so she decides to go it alone. She ends up with twin boys who are very hard to handle. When she reads up on orcs she learns a lot about their customs that she never knew. Most importantly is that Whelan had claimed her as his bride and that orc babies need their dads. Drew won't give up her sons but she has changed enough to be happy settled down with Whelan. However he may not be happy to have her around.

Orcs don't pleasure mate so when Whelan was intimate with Drew, it was him claiming her as his bride. Whelan is filled with more wild instincts than most orcs. He had to fight the urge to kidnap Drew to make her his. However he didn't realize that he talks in his sleep and he scared her off. All he knows is that his bride ran away from him with his baby. He did everything an orc should do to prepare for his son except talk to his bride. When it is clear that Drew had her baby without him, Drew goes a little mad. Then three mnths pass and he comes home from a hunt to find Drew and his twin sons waiting for him. He is thrilled to have his sons there but he doesn't trust Drew any more since it seems like she keeps lying about him.

Drew (h) enjoyed a tempestuous, anonymous night with a wild orc after a few too many drinks but left him asleep when his possessive nighttime murmurings overwhelmed her. Months later, she’s trying to raise his twin orc sons, Bran and Owen, on her own but realizes they need the connection with their father to thrive. Drew seeks out her sons’ father, Whelan (H), but while he wants his sons, he’s not too sure about opening himself up to the hurt of Drew leaving him again. Whelan is so sweet with his vulnerability and his love for his sons, even if he is a bit stubborn about accepting Drew’s explanation. Drew is really strong for her sons – being willing to uproot herself from everything she knows and going into the orc community. Hot and steamy orc-human, secret babies romantic quickie with a little bit of angst and some laughs along the way. Loved how big hot pizza turned out to be in the bonding with family and friends.

I liked this way more than I thought i would, it didn’t feel like a novella at all. It was really well paced and well written. With cute and spicy scenes so definitely a good mix.

I really enjoyed this story. Human, Drew and orc, Whelan met a year earlier and had a hot and steamy night. Whelan knew Drew was his mate but Drew was scared of his intensity and ran while he was sleeping. Now Drew has 3 month old twin orc boys and has realised they need their father to thrive. She goes in search of Whelan. Whelan is devastated when he finds Drew gone, she is his forever. When she arrives at his orc commune with his boys he doesn’t know if he can trust her not to break his heart again. Sweet, steamy story with amazing chemistry, true love, an obsessed but loving hero and a wonderful HEA.

Why would anyone want to be with an angry being?

I never write a review. But this is the first time I disliked the hero in a romance novel. If you want an angry hero that kept calling the heroine a liar ( even though she was not ) for 90% of your romance novel, this is the book for you. BTW, anger and distrust are not kinks.

Drew is literally always repeating herself like why are these orcs so dense. And why does the author keep doing it? Like babe get some new dialogue the repetitiveness is hella annoying like she’s obviously not getting her point across she needs to word it more strongly and i don’t know maybe yell at the dense fuckers.

And the first time they met again that stupidly long conversation where she literally repeated over three times why she left him in that bed. Its like their incapable of understanding her perspective and the male lead, whatever the fuck his name is because i don’t really care at this point just felt like an ignorant baby who only saw things the orc way as if humans don’t live completely differently!!!! How the fuck would she know a one night stand is not a thing for orcs and when she explains her whole thought process this dumbass says no ur lying i never said i would kidnap you smhh like she just said u were half asleep when u said it goofy.

And from his pov before he knows drew came back hes all like oh the worst thing an orc can be is a single father and i miss my bride and oh i wish i did better prepping so i didn’t let her get away. But then shes at his house and hes all like nah i don’t trust this female, the only reason i didn’t kick her out is because she loves our sons and just a bunch of stupid bullshit to protect his feelings which is weird as fuck and counters everything hes been doing for the past year.

Like he literally thinks shes making up a fake story on why she left and its so fucking ridiculous and annoying because thats all he thinks for like half the book like okay hes actually stupid as shit and the author wants to DRAG this unnecessary ass conflict so she can meet her word count and oh my fucking god drew just says the same fucking things OVER AND OVER i gotta say it again because it actually annoys tf out of me. How hard it was to raise them the first three months, how her best friend and nanny helped, how she flew and drove cross country, the fucking fates night story and her thought process on why she left and how she was scared and ran not knowing she was pregnant, knowing absolutely nothing about or customs.

Then the goofy orc “cannot trust female” this “won’t trust her again” that like please shut the fuck up and move on like this is a short story why are these people clinging to these stupid ass lines, stupid plot, and close minded thought process it’s seriously taking the joy out of this novella

This whole book was about her lusting over her baby daddy who is thinking i cant trust her like in what world is this shit entertaining. The reason we go for monster romances is for the obsessiveness, all these orcs do tho is talking about ancient times when they kidnapped brides like no one gives a fuck we are here for romance not all this bullshit. Like drew is just thinking about how fine he is and how she wants to try and make this work but all goofy can think about is i can’t trust her because she’ll leave again like this shit is boring and annoying not entertaining i literally just wasted my time.

FMC was selfish

The entire book I figured she would stop defending her actions but she never did.

Spoiler warning!!!

If she really heard him say that he was gonna kidnap her while he was half asleep, why didn’t she just talk to him in the morning instead of running away. They were in a human hotel in the middle of a human city. He couldn’t have gotten far with her. People talk crap when they’re tired. People say things they don’t mean all the time. She let her prejudices color her thoughts and reacted poorly but took zero responsibility throughout the book for her actions. What happens next time he says something she doesn’t like? She’s gonna run again?

I dunno… He explained how bad she hurt his mental state but instead of accepting that and really feeling bad about what she did, she was like “it was your fault”. Her excuse for assuming an orc would be like a human and not want a kid from a one night stand was crap as well. she shouldn’t have assumed that even for a human male. She took away his choices and expected him to just throw himself at her when she finally decided she needed him. and the fact that there was zero groveling on her part is bogus. If it was reversed and he did those things to her she would’ve wanted tons of groveling. The entire relationship was on her terms.

She finally is ok with the relationship once she finds out that her prejudices were wrong? Omg what woman wouldn’t want a man to do all the cleaning and child rearing? She just shows up and moved into his home like it’s hers. He said no to her multiple times but she just basically throws herself at him anyways and manipulated his instincts to get what she wants. Then she’s told she can basically throw him out of the house he built and she’s like” that’s awesome!” This book was a load of bs full of manipulation and gaslighting.

I like the other books in the series but couldn’t stand the FMC in this one. I felt bad for the orc.

Seriously, don’t waste your time!

I'm kind of torn on how I feel about this book. I think a lot of the issues between Drew and Whelan stemmed from basic cultural misunderstandings (like how Drew didn't know she'd end up pregnant after one night with her dude [which orcs are fully aware of, but Whelan didn't realize Drew didn't know] and how she didn't know orcs weren't allowed to go after their special someone and how that left both of them feeling like they'd been abandoned [more so on Whelan's part, but still]) and then these two started talking and, I don't know, every single issue was resolved because they were super self-aware. I don't know if that makes sense, but I'm not a fan of when cultural issues aren't explained to the new-to-the-culture party and I'm also not a fan of characters being so self aware they know exactly what their issues are without any soul-searching.

I guess I'm trying to say I wanted these two to talk before jumping to conclusions, but when they did start talking I wanted them to figure things out together instead of just KNOWING what their issues were.

Like I said, kind of torn.

Anywho. Drew is struggling with her twins, Whelan's in a funk because he thinks his Bride just used him to get knocked up and isn't interested in a relationship. Both of them have abandonment issues, but when Drew moves herself and her kiddos into Whelan's house everything is pretty much smooth sailing. (Sure, I'm glossing over some of the bumps, but Drew really wasn't afraid to move full steam ahead with a potential relationship even though Whelan was on the fence after dealing with a year of abandonment. Oh, wait. That was one of said bumps. There you go.)

Such a cute story! This is a new to me author and I like their writing. The story is short, fast paced, entertaining and a little steamy by the end. I have not read much about Orcs either, but this intrigues me to read the other books in the series. Told from the viewpoints of both main characters, we follow a human who thought she was having a one-night stand with an Orc. When she winds up pregnant and goes to find the twin’s dad, she in for a struggle to get him to trust her again. Will they get a happily ever-after?

Twins for the Wild Orc is the fourth standalone book in the Sweet Monster Treats series.

2 stars because I have SO MANY questions and SO MANY frustrations with this one. For one, why in the world did the MMC feel compelled to impregnate the FMC on the first date only to fall asleep and have her slip away? The MMC felt so strongly about the FMC that he literally makes her have his babies (without telling her) but he doesn't stay awake to see it through...it's just odd. How is he a "wild orc"? This is never explained but alluded OFTEN. However, we never see him actually being wild. Why do orc babies need to be around other orcs to thrive biologically? I mean socially, and culturally, I totally get it. But the biological part was never explained. Last, how in the world did the pizza delivery drive 1 hour outside of town? As someone whose lived in some remote places, no one is delivering that pizza.

I think what frustrated me the most was how the other orc men treated the FMC initially, and that she just took it. There was no one on her side despite her having been a single mom for an entire quarter, and the orc daddy literally making the choice for the both of them. There was no understanding about what leaving her life, driving across the country, and packing everything into a single car would mean for her....and she literally just took whatever folks wanted to dish out.

Also the way the MMC would not give into the pull between them and kept calling her a liar while knowing he was a "wild orc". Dude if you know you're feral, why not assume you'll say some feral stuff?

This one was fun, but not smutty enough for the amount of plot holes that were throughout.

Twins for the Wild Orc is a fun, light read. Drew and Whelan are both likable, and I enjoyed that their difficulties were caused by ignorance of one another’s cultures rather than anything about their particular characters. It’s charming to see them come together.

Whelan somewhat obstinately refuses to believe what Drew is telling him, and I found that frustrating—if he really doesn’t know this woman that well, his automatic belief that she’s lying despite her repeated explanations felt more like it happened because they had to be apart rather than anything else.

If anything, things are a bit too easy for these two, and that’s partially due to the challenges of the novella format. Drew conveniently has no family, while Whelan somehow manages to be discoverable despite living in the wilds of Maine. Speaking of which, my favorite moment of disbelief was that Whelan’s compound in the middle of nowhere, Maine had an excellent wireless signal to allow Drew to work remotely. That was probably a bigger fantasy than orcs living in Maine!

So if you’re willing to suspend your disbelief and accept some elements that make things go pretty smoothly in Twins for the Wild Orc, you’ll find yourself enjoying this book. It’s not a deep read, but then again, not every romance has to be. It’s a fun monster romance that whiles away the time nicely.

“I am an orc. We wait all our lives to raise a son. This is the greatest joy of our lives. I have trained for this. Males who never have a son live with a deep sadness.”

I enjoyed this book. It was a fun read. I loved seeing the cultural differences between orcs and humans here and how a misunderstanding kept them apart. Usually I hate misunderstandings that drive a couple apart instead of just communicating, but it worked very well here as it was due to differing mindsets. I enjoyed seeing Whelan start to trust Drew again and slowly try to understand things from her perspective. Seeing him caring for his babies, Bran and Owen, was sweet. These orc males are a woman's fantasy! They do the cleaning, know all about caring for the babies, and are good in bed. *wink*

There were a few instances where the story repeated details more than once. For example, in the beginning when Drew reached the orc commune, she had to state at least twice in the same conversation to the same three males that she wasn't there to just drop off her babies and leave. In the same conversation she tells them Halloween is her favorite holiday and asks if they do trick-or-treating or have a party or anything, and was told no. Much later in the book she again asks Whelan if orcs like Halloween and do trick-or-treating. It just made things feel choppy.

Overall an enjoyable read. 4 stars.

Drew didn't think spending time with a sexy Orc would go from hot to crazy. He's mumbling about taking her and locking her away in his home. Nope, not what she signed up for, nor the surprise she gets later. She needs all the help she can get so off she goes looking for her sexy Orc.

Whelan has been pining for his Bride. He can't believe he found her yet she secretly sneaks away after an unforgettable night. Worst of all, he never got her name so he has no way of finding her. Imagine his surprise when she shows up looking for him. But is he willing to believe she wants a life with him away from her human cities and modern high tech life?

I love Michele Mills storytelling so when I learned she had one out for an Orc romance, I jumped to read it. I'm so glad Whelan just didn't give in and that Drew had to work at convincing him she was telling the truth about staying. Enjoyed every moment of this quick read. Her story always hit the spot!

I didn't get this book.

The FMC goes to the orc commune to find her baby daddy. The Orcs want her to just leave the babies because the MMC might violently rape her if he sees her?

I mean, cool if it's a dark romance but in the end he doesn't even come close. Doesn't even touch her or have any signs of fighting urges... He just thinks she's a liar because she isn't completely sure about him.

So the rest of the book is her learning about orc culture and biology (orc exist but I guess the internet doesnt have a single thing to google on orc pregnancies or babies or mating? She did finally read a book though.)

“I think it’s good that we’re talking like this. We have children together, but we were still strangers who didn’t know each other."

So that's what the book is. Them talking through their relationship like a long couples therapy session, and then he remembers he was mumbling about kidnapping her in his sleep so he realizes she isn't a liar and they finally have sex.

I really like Michele Mills as an author. I've read other books in this series, so it was nice to see a call back. Whalen and Drew are from the Orc and human world. It's wild that as much as the Orcs have adapted to the human world, basic miscommunications could've been avoided if they let folks know they don't hookup, first sex WILL get you pregnant.

There was a lot of anger on both sides because of something that could've definitely been avoided. Perhaps it better explained in later books. I liked how the characters and their family/friends interacted and this made me want to read more of the series. I think I missed 2 prior books, because I know who they are referring to in a book Drew wrote. All in all, the book is 10/10 and you don't have to read them in order to follow along.

Drew is a romance writer, she attends a writer’s conference with her best friend Amanda and her life drastically changes forever.
Whelan is a wild orc, he leaves his commune for a business trip and is pulled to a bar.
Sparks fly when these two interact, so much occurs in one night.
Drew hears Whelan mumble in his sleep after a wild night of passion and flees.
She finds herself pregnant with twins a few months later and after trying her very best to care for her growing family yearns for more with Whelan.
Emotions run high between them both and thankfully all works put in the end.
I greatly appreciated Whelan’s hands on care with his children and “Bride”
It was an learning experience for both Drew and Whelan.

Drew and Whelan. I love the Sweet Monster Treats series! Loving the Orc's. This is Whelan (orc) and Drew (human female) story. They have a 1 night stand that results in the twins. There is a big misunderstanding and Drew leaves. After the babies are born Drew goes in search of her babies father. I'll be honest, it took me a while to warm up to Whelan...but in the end he was worth the time to know him. Michele is an amazing author who write wonderful characters. I love that her stories keep me glued to the page long after I should be asleep. I hope there will be more to this 3 author (Ava Ross, Honey Phillips and Michele Mills...all of whom I love) series. I didn't know how much I love orcs until these books. 1-click 5 stars

More Than She Bargained For

Drew Riley is a woman on a mission: go to Bangor, Maine and find Whelan Overlook—the Orc father of her identical 3 month old twins Bran and Owen. When she reaches the commune where he lives, she finds him gone hunting, and meets his father and cousin. She also finds them highly suspicious of the woman who’s driven Whelan somewhat mad when she ghosted him after their very memorable one night stand. Orcs don’t do one night stands, and knowing that he’d impregnated her and she abandoned him he feared the worst and entered a severe depression. She’s gotten her work cut out for her, but the flame that ignited that night may be just embers, but those are still HOT.

Cute. That's what comes to mind when thinking about this book now that I've finished it. Just cute.

Was it a little too simplistic at times? Sure. Did I expect more smexy times before reading? Also, yes. 😆 But it was also well written, adorable and included all the necessary details to understand the Orc's and how they live in modern times without drowning the entire plot in endless filler.

The only real issue I had was the repetitive "I didn't say this woman!" Argument from Whalen and "I can't trust her so I won't touch her" argument as well. Man, they got tiresome real quick for a short novel. It dragged everything down for me because though these were valid concerns and issues that needed to be addressed they in fact were NOT addressed. Not until the very end which seemed a little too late imo.

Otherwise if you can overlook silly issues such as those then you'll be fine. Because this was a very cute light read to pass the time.

Super cute!

I was reading another book before this that really annoyed me. This book made up for it.
I am not typically a fan of books where h or H are resistant to the relationship. However I noticed that there are some books like this that I enjoy and I think it’s because the reason for the resistance makes sense, which it does in this book. H is mad at her because she ran and kept his babies from him which was understandable. h understood his feelings gave her pov and was patient. Just as his grudge was getting to the other end of the scale he understood where she was coming from and they had their HEA.
It was sweet and pretty much what I was looking for so it did not let me down.

A whole new life...

Drew never knew that one night could change her life forever!
And who knew Orc's had so many traditions? Drew certainly doesn't know but she quickly realises her mistake and tries to correct those mistakes and I love her for it. I love that she tries to put right everything she has inadvertently done wrong and completely changes her life to do so, accepting Whelan, his world and all the traditions that go with him. It's a journey of self discovery, not only for Drew but also for Whelan, a journey they start individually but complete together.
I really enjoyed seeing Drew add the fun of Halloween to the compound, which introduces a lighter and fun side of Whelan too.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Drew has found after three months and a much needed Orc in human city guide that she needs her twin Orc babies daddy. She hasn’t stopped wanting or missing him since they’re one night together. So she uproots everything on the hopes they can be a family. Even accepting living in the woods in an orc community.
Whelan is heartbroken that he mates with his bride and she slipped out taking not only his love and leaving him with many memories of their one night. But also took his offspring he implanted in her. He breed her and doesn’t know if she kept the baby or her name or anything. He goes mad trying to have hope he will see them again.

Good

Drew got pregnant after a one-night-stand with her orc, Whelan, and now she’s bringing his twins to meet him- can the two of them work things out and gain their happily ever after?

This is a lighthearted Orcish romance, in which a wild orc finally connects with the mother of his twins, and they learn to trust each other. It’s a fast read, with some sexy times, and some romance. This is a wonderful “pick-me-up” read, if you feel in need of something feel-good, and is perfect for the paranormal romance or monster romance lover, who is a little short on time.
An entertaining read for the Halloween season.
