The world is run by conspiracies, as usual in a Hickman comic, and everyone speaks platitudes in italics. Again as usual for Hickman we get a fantasy battle map. It looks gorgeous, some of Hitch’s best work in years, but most of the scenes are pretty static.
I wouldn’t call this issue bad, more like it has too much substance and not enough style for me. Hickman is obviously saying a lot about this universe and is clearly doing a lot of setup, but not enough dominoes are falling fast enough for me to say I’m completely engaged.
Ultimate Invasion #3 This issue sees the consequences of The Maker’s universe begin to unfold, especially with the rise of new versions of familiar characters like Howard Stark and a young Tony. The philosophical tension ramps up, questioning whether power used for control can ever be just. The worldbuilding is impressive, but the emotional connection to characters is still building.
This issue kinda just lost me, I feel like all the moments the factions from different parts of the world were talking in the room just dragged on, like nothing was really getting done or said. A decent issue but not great. Cool reveal at the end though.
