Where do I even begin with reviewing this final book and the series in general? Ruinous is the perfect example of how a finale should be of a series. The rollercoaster of this book was INSANE. There was no where within the book that you could go “ahhh that’s where it’s leading to” because there is no inclination of that. NONE. My emotions were absolutely wrecked by the book. One minute I was riddled with anxiety, then I was sobbing then all of a sudden I was laughing and happy.. to then do a 180 to the beginning.
It’s so rare for a series to catch me completely off guard with the plot but the marked mage saga definitely threw me right off into the deep end without a paddle. If I had a wish.. it would be to read this series all over again for the first time.
I am in absolute awe of Victoria Evers writing and world building. I can’t wait to see what future books are written by her because since stumbling across the series.. she is officially one of my favourite authors.

I may be biased as I have fallen in love with Victoria Evers’ writing and this series, but Ruinous is everything I wanted as a reader.

There were so many twist and turns, the final book in Kat and Blaine’s story is a rollercoaster ride. I laughed, I cried, my heartstrings were pulled.

There are so many Easter eggs and details throughout the story that it’s easy to see why this book took as long as it did to come out, and it was well worth the wait! The character development and maturity in the main characters surpasses what was seen in books 1-3.

I won’t spoil the ending but everyone gets the ending they deserve. <3

This one took 1 month for me to finish however the first three books took only a couple of days. Ruinous was unessentially long, it could easily have been about 350 pages. The action scenes are long, normal scenes are longer. When they talk about an incident I assume it took place weeks ago but they said it only happened 2 days ago. In my opinion that means the pace is wrong, so much happens in one day and so much happens in 100 pages that I automatically assume it happened a while before.

Why is Blaine so weak? Wasn’t he a high prince of hell? And Kat is half angel, Reese is half angel but they always run away from the threat or get beaten up. And I can’t accept that they’re vulnerable to guns. If it’s that so, than we normal people don’t have to be afraid from the supernaturals because we can kill them with one shot.

Maybe it’s my inadequacy of understanding but for the life of me I couldn’t understand the plot. Why is this sacrifice being made? What’s Katalin’s angle? What’s with the twin flame and the ultio mark? I mean the writer told us about the twin flame and why it happened for the first time thousands of years ago, but what tied this to the grand scheme of plot? And did it stop in the end? Is the twin flame thing is for only Kat’s Reese’s and Blaine’s ancestors or do other people have it? What happened to Andras? What’s with the Fae? Where is Raelynd in all of this? If he’s just a demon and Blaine’s a high prince than how Rae’s the boss of Blaine? And why was he a hang up at the end? And don’t get me started with the witch and her personalities or whatsoever. Why did she bring Andras? Why did Katalin did what she did? For me there are many questions that are unanswered.

Also there are many point of views in this installation that I don’t care about. I love the richness of the side characters in this series but that doesn’t mean that I want to read Reese’s and Carly’s point of view for pages long. I wanted Kat.

To sum up, this series is still one of my favourites. The writing and narration of the writer is top notch. There are no typos or meaningless sentences. But it was a dissappointment for me to still have questions in my mind. If I didn’t have a devotion for this series and I didn’t waited for the last book to be published for years, I would’ve dnf’ed it.

Why did Blaine got beaten up continually? Why can’t he fight back and can’t protect Kat? I can’t get over this.

RATING: 4.5 Stars

This book…this book…

I’m so glad I found this series! The story is amazing, the action suspenseful, and the characters… Magnifique!

With how the third book ended I was devastated because I didn’t know there was meant to be a fourth. And to find out book three took years to come out, I did not have high hopes of this one coming out anytime so soon. But I’m so glad it finally did!

When I found out it was coming out I warned my husband that I will not exist until this book was finished. (With this book being 840 pages long, it was my longest read and I knew would take some time.) He just looked at me funny and just said, “Okay.” Can’t say I didn’t warn him.

This book was a lot more dramatic than I was expecting. Not that that’s a bad thing. Quite the opposite. I had no idea where this story was gonna go and it was a rollercoaster! (Which is saying something considering I read a lot and can usually predict how the story will end, but not this one). The only time I felt it drag though was the beginning but after that, it just took off. There were a few grammatical issues as well as punctuation issues but they weren’t bad. The story gripped me so I didn’t even care.

One thing I’ve always loved about this series is Kat’s determination to keep fighting. She never stops no matter the situation. She doesn’t give up or make rash, stupid decisions (arguably her decisions have merit and didn’t have an ego or attitude that got in the way). You don’t know how many books I’ve read where the FMC just did whatever she wanted without thought of her actions or her own well-being or anyone else’s. Kat’s main motivation is always to keep everyone she loves safe and I love that. She is strong, determined, selfless and was critical in her decisions. She relied on others to help her instead of doing everything herself.

I’m so glad I got to read this series and to see it final got the conclusion it deserved. Now I just need the story of thank you very much!

Epic Finale

When I found this series in 2019 I was sucked right into the first book from chapter one. Devoured all the books in days.

Waiting for book four was torture, but boy was it worth it! Victoria did not disappoint. The whole time reading this book I’d be like ok I see where she is going with this, just to be scratching my head and thinking wtf with the next chapter. The lead up and all the twist and turns were oh so worth it, the wtf moments worth it. The way she tied it all together at the end is just perfect, literally chef’s kiss.

I’m so sad to say goodbye to Kat, Blaine, Val and the crew. But I have a feeling this won’t be the last of them. I am so here for it and absolutely cannot wait to see what else she has in store for us.

If you love angst, bully themes, paranormal, snark, sarcasm and just all out a great read, this series will give it all to you. Don’t walk, run!

Yes!

This series was fantastic! The scenes were vivid and emotionally inspiring! I could not put any of them down and read them 2 more times while waiting for Ruinous to come out. I finished it in 2 days (while working full time). That should explain my up until after 2am escapades! I literally did not want to stop reading this finale. It was beautiful and exciting. Everything I wanted for all the characters came to life while also blindsiding me so many revalations... if that makes any sense. I was gasping, laughing, stomping my feet in anger, and on the edge of my seat for Kat and Blaine. I'm pretty sure I even slung my arms around a few times, angry at all the happenstance. I can't wait to dive in to more of this world. I don't think there are enough stars for me to rate this.

This book was 800 odd pages long. It took the author longer than expected to finally release this book, and I'm pleased to say it was worth it.

Since there was a gap between the third book and this one I had to reread the series from the start to refresh my memories and I'm glad I did so i could appreciate each detail the author has went through to make this book perfect.

So many things have happened. There were so many ups and downs in this book, I never knew what was gonna happen next. The world building, the descriptions, secondary characters, and the main trio were absolutely on point, so very well done to the author.

Kat, Blaine, and Reese have been through so much. I'm glad they've all got their happy endings even if they got there going to hell and back.

I'm looking forward to reading others' stories whenever that happens.

The first 10% of this book was torture (literally) and then all hell breaks loss in the last 3/4th (also literally) causing there to be like 15 chapters of violence and vivid carnage and general suffering. Other than that I think this book wraps up the series nicely, I just wish it wasn’t so hard to get through 🫣

I also hate so much that every time Kat makes a power move it’s like ridiculously sexual, for no reason? Like she’s a child and in front of her parents too 😤

There’s also so many questions I’m hoping will be answered in the spin off like who was Lila marrying? What is Silas? Why did Jeremiah panic at the sight of Carly’s mate rune? What was up with Cordelia having rock solid skin? And the sagax thing came out of nowhere like the fact that people were summoning it and using it for info in the previous books while it was actually the villain?

Epic Ending to a Phenomenal Series!! Must Read!

Ruinous brings the long awaited conclusion to The Marked Mage Chronicles and oh my what an ending it was! Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster of a lifetime with off the charts chemistry as Katrina and Blaine are trust into the battle of a lifetime where they must fight endlessly to save one another and the world.

The finale is nothing short of brilliant with twists and turns that will keep you guessing and at edge of your seat the entire time. The story being told from several perspectives not only gives you better insight to some of your beloved characters; but also adds to the suspense and complexity. A perfect ending to a phenomenal series and an absolute must read!

Everything was a bit too much for me in this installment. The first half of the book was so heavily violent that I had to set the book aside before coming back to it. I don't particularly enjoy exaggerated violence.

Blaine and Kat make an excellent pair and there was no denying their chemistry even here. I particularly liked Crysis in this book. Val and his love life....I feel like it was a disservice to Val but their whole romance thing felt a bit done and dusted.

The multiple POV's were fun to read and smoothly carried the story forward. Although there were certain times I felt if we needed some extra elements at all. The added flair and layers could have been toned down. So all in all, I give this book 3 stars.

So many questions and not enough answers.
What is Carly that make people gasp at her ruins? Who did Lila just marry? How does Cordelia have diamond hard skin? Why did Crysis go from a main character to basically not existing? The list goes on…

Also I was hoping this last book would finally tie everything together and we would get more Blaine and Kat. But nope it’s was a whole book of gruesome violence and unwanted narrative from Reese, then bam fast forward four years and try and tie a bow on the whole thing in the epilogue.

The plot of these books are great, and could have been in my top 5 favorite series. But the writing skill was just not there. Maybe I just don’t get Victorias writing style, but it’s definitely not for me.

what a wild ride

Overall these books are well written. I found myself engaged with the protagonists and rooting for them to win. The villains were confusing sometimes but there was a lot to hate with them. It was a spiraling journey to finally learn who was really behind the scenes pulling all the strings.

I loved the series but this book was my least favorite. I got frustrated with the shifts between characters and found some of the monster scenes overdone. Mo was my favorite monster!

The series starts off urban fantasy but ends more epic fantasy. There is a big shift from high school drama to world ending life and death clashes with demons and creatures from the underworld. Anyone who loves dark fantasy romance should add this series to their TBR.

This book had me on edge throughout the entire thing. One of the few books that I couldn't predict where it was going and what was happening. ABSOLUTELY worth it! Honestly could not imagine the story wrapping up any other way! The imagery was fantastic, the character depth was spot on, and the mystery and thrills kept the book from getting stale at any point. I definitely could have gone without Carly's chapters. I didn't feel like she contributed anything to the story that couldn't have been spoken verbally to the main characters in their chapters. Her big reveal wasn't even in her chapter. Outside of that, the book was FANTASTIC!

From the time I started reading the mark mage series I wasn’t prepared for how much I would love this series and the world Victoria Evers created.
It’s been a very long time since I have read a book that was as exciting and such a wild ride as Ruinous. Usually I can figure out the book by the first few chapters. Not this book. I had to read the entire book with all its twists and turns. I cried, laughed, sat on the edge of my seat. It was fantastic!
Victoria Evers writes a thrilling story you won’t be disappointed with. And if you’re like me you won’t be able to wait for her next series to come out.

Crazy in the best ways!

This is in reference to the entire series. It's so easy to escape into the world that the author so seamlessly built to exist alongside ours. How on earth did she do that? It was pretty dark at times but fitting of the genre. I had trouble with some parts as her attention to detail was not lacking. But I pressed through nonetheless. It could have done with a lot more spice, that's the only reason I only gave it 4 stars. But this is one helluva ride. You won't be disappointed.

Tedious, Confusing ,and disappointing

Too many names for the same person. I had trouble keeping track of who was who. The Angel of death vs Samael vs Angelique Collins (still have a problem with that) Katalin vs Katlin etc. Then spouting Latin and on one occasion French with no translation. All the supernatural terms combined with the constant changing of perspectives. Lastly, there we're numerous typos like it was dictated and was misunderstood or auto correct was in overdrive. Plus, I had to reread the whole series just to figure out what was going w.

I could not wait for this to come out. And when it finally did, I absolutely plowed through it. The first little bit can be kind of a drag, especially if you just read the previous book, but just keep on truckin. It’s so good. A lot of conclusions make me mad, and I was afraid it’d be the same case here. To my surprise, I was honestly just sad that it ended. Loved the story. Just started the series over again to see it for its secrets.

Now there is a major downside and it isn’t story related. The technical execution of this is mostly great. But, I should knock half a star off for it. There were some things that once I noticed them I couldn’t get past them. Some egregious examples were spelling Raelynd as Rayland (I mean, really?), using the word plain instead of plane numerous times (like the whole chapter and it clearly meant the latters meaning) and mistakenly putting ending or beginning quotes in places they clearly don’t belong. I’ve reported the errors, but I seriously doubt anybody reads those as I’ve never seen them rectified before.

My God what a freaking roller coaster!!!

This may very well have been the most anxiety ridden book I have ever read!! So worth the wait tho! I wish we could have gotten a little more happy times than all the trauma but the book was awesome!! I'm sad it's over. Blaine has been my favorite book boyfriend since book 2 so having his story end is kind of breaking my heart but m glad h got his hea.

I can't describe how much I freaking love this series!

MMC series is my all time favorite series and I reread the series at least twice a year. Kat and Blaine are just the most perfect book couple.

Cannot wait for the audio book to come out and if anyone is curious whether the finale does the series justice, rest assured it is so fucking worth it.

Sorry

I’m sorry I didn’t rate the previous books in this series, because I was too impatient to get yo the next book to see what happened!!! What a great series. So much detail, so much action, I read every second I was free: bathroom at work, car when I left work, till 3:00am. Loved the twists and turns of this paranormal world. It was nonstop. Truly masterful story telling

A remarkably good series!

This series was a page burner. I was flipping through the series so fast I thought if I'd had an actual paper copy it may have gone up in flames. I loved the characters, the villains and the inevitable comeuppance to conclude the tale. The author brilliantly weaves an intriguing story. I highly recommend this series!

Disappointing

The 4th and final book of the Marked Mage Chronicles, was certainly ruinous. Told from all characters POV was full of time wasting material. It spoilt the build up of the ending for me. I was skipping lots of pages and pointless POVs. Such a shane as this was a wicked storyline.

4.5 ending was a great conclusion to the series but felt it was just a tad long and too many chapters of one POV I did not care to read from.
