Now somewhat out of date but a very useful overview - in particular, it includes a large number of maps showing the distribution of various site types and enabling the reader to locate the places named in the text. The analysis is also clear and although there will be new information from more recent excavations, I still found this a helpful introduction.

3.5 It is a good solid, easy to read book, BUT if you are expecting a lot of information on the Celts then this is not the book for you. This is the history of Early Ireland, not the Celts.
