Behold Your God is a Bible study workbook in which Myrna Alexander helps us study God's character and person. Alexander emphasizes that what once was appropriate for only the seminary student or theologian is essential to the faith of all believers. Behold Your God includes an introduction to Scripture verses and themes, questions with space for answers at the end of each chapter, and helps for study group leaders. Each lesson focuses on a particular truth about the character of Behold Your God helps readers understand what God is really like and encourages practical application of this knowledge to daily living. Addressing contemporary and biblical issues, the Woman's Workshop series and the Workshop series for men and women are ideal for group or individual Bible study.
I did not expect to appreciate this study due to the date of publication, the lack of seeing any verses in the wider context of the whole of scripture, and the constant bible page flipping necessary to complete the study. However, it was very biblically sound, constantly pointed the reader to the bible and was well thought out in proving God's attributes.
It's been a while since I've done a book study rather than an inductive study. She skipped around a lot and often took verses out of their context. It was a great study for the summer while kids were home. Easy to complete in a reasonable amount of time. Loved learning more about the character of our Great God! We paired this with Tozer's The Knowledge of the Holy!
This small older book was a great dive into the attributes of God. It took me awhile to go through this study because there is so much to dwell on. The author gives a lot of Scripture to look up and read. I liked the format of introduction, fill in the blank from Scripture and then the application section that still included a lot of Scripture.
Fantastic. If you want a refresher on the attributes of God, look no further. Easy study to do in under and hour a day. Would also recommend for small groups. Check out my more in-depth review on my blog.
While I enjoyed this Bible Study I have 2 notes: First read all the scripture references and make sure you get the correct context. Several of the verses are taken out of context and or misused because she only uses the NKJV. Also she mis identifies God's promises with Proverbs in the bible. For anyone planning on or having read this book please note that Proverbs are wise and sometimes true, however they are NOT GOD'S PROMISES, because they can sometimes be untrue. Ex. Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it, unfortunalty there is free will and children can choose to part from it, regardless of the parents.
