You’re not alone and you’re not broken. Period.

What if I told you that thoughts are just sentences in your brain - not reality. What if I told you that emotions are just temporary sensations in your body - that can pass in 90 seconds when we don’t resist them.

Thinking we are alone, based on the sentences in our brain or the sensations in our body - and feeling broken because of them - dictates so many of our decisions.

And when we believe the lie that we are the Sound familiar? Then it’s time to Reset Your Mindse t. Overcoming the lie is as simple as befriending your brain and your body.

Through kitten steps and “one percent changes”, I invite you to question your unhelpful thoughts and feelings so you can take your power back, while we laugh (and swear) together along the way!

Let’s go, Sunshine, I’ve got your back!

Reset Your Mindset- How To Get Your Sh*t Together By Befriending Your Brain and Your Body is a “what you see is what you get” type of self help book. In this resource, author @jennbaron explores the ways we sabotage ourselves on a daily basis with our own thoughts, and offers advice on how to break the cycle.

While some might argue changing one’s mindset is easier said than done, Baron gently reminds the reader of the mind’s neuroplasticity-the way the brain works to rewire itself when necessary through growth and reorganization. In essence, we should have more faith in our bodies and our minds than our mind actually allows us to at times. (Read THAT three times fast!)

Furthering down this path, Baron offers up some tried and true techniques for seeing long term success. For example, in one chapter she suggests using kitten steps, which is really just small steps towards a bigger picture. She also recalls some classic grounding exercises for when anxiety rears its ugly head. There’s a written reminder here to be careful with labels as well, as they can unnecessarily pigeon hole you into negative thoughts.

While each chapter encapsulates differing coping mechanisms, no one guidance is more unique in its offering than the other. However, I did feel seen while reading the anxiety ridden, pet caregiver chapter! That being said, I would recommend this resource to readers who are just beginning to discover their path of self exploration as they would reap more benefit than some other seasoned self help seekers.

Wouldn’t you like to have a life coach?

I had a wonderful experience spending a much needed quality time with author Jenn Baron coach me through life’s challenges. In her very readable book, I found myself learning a lot about my body and brains, how to get unstuck, by using life stories and real life experiences, as well as, evidence based science to understand ourselves better in order to make a change and improve our lives.

As a Neuroscience nurse, I love the nerdy scientific parts of the book but also love the anecdotes - many truly resonated with me like managing and normalizing anxiety - through acceptance, compassion and kindness, taking kitten steps, grounding yourself in the present, listening to self, and so much more.

I read though the whole book first then I re-read the chapters slowly that I felt I needed to focus on. I followed some simple actionable items and the small changes that add up to make a difference. This book was so informative, and truly is a life changer.

This is a super fast and very informational read coming in at 264 pages, I finished it in one day. ⁣
There are 66 chapters built on helping you reset your mindset. The introduction alone had me feeling good as I was getting to know Jenn and the way she thinks and also the affirmation to the question I ask myself multiple times a day “What’s wrong with me? her answer was nothing is wrong with me.. that right there goes to show how not just my mind but our minds can put a damper on the way we view ourselves.. ⁣
A few of my favorite takeaways and chapters from this book are chapter 2- Our Thoughts Aren’t True- I read this chapter twice because I have often thought that the way I was raised ingrained me to believe so much of what I do honestly know are not truthful facts..Chapter 7- Ground Yourself in the Present- I think this is so important, especially for someone my age.. Chapter 10- Anxiety is Normal, this chapter came after a chapter about Jenn discussing coming off Zoloft, I can relate to that chapter also. I found more clarity once I got off all the meds and I have learned it is ok to feel anxious and anxiety is normal and it is ok to feel that emotion.. ⁣
This book was truly great and has so many good takeaways and great advice. I know reading or hearing some of these things are not easy but for myself, I know that I need to read them and hear them to help me to keep growing and progressing and living and being ok with myself.. Jenn has some solid advice and pointers on how to help with getting your mindset to a good place.. it takes time, it will not happen overnight but I feel if you put even a few things front this book in motion, it will help!!⁣

Thank you to Dartfrog Books and Jenn Baron for this gifted book that I will absolutely keep on hand and go back to for reminders.. ⁣

Thank you to @dartfrogbooks @Jennbaron for the #gifted copy.

Reset Your Mindset was written to help you change the way you think in what Jenn refers to as "kitten steps." Y’all know I love cat references. 🐈I am a big believer in changing how we think contributes to success. Is it easy? Absolutely not. It is much easier to let negative thoughts creep in. I really liked the way the author took a no bull approach to discussing the ways you can change your mindset. A lot of her approach was in her personal experience. She discusses what worked for her and what didn't. I could appreciate the chapter on anxiety and the one about cutting out sugar! Haven't we all been there?! I absolutely believe she has some solid advice in here that we all can benefit from!

It is out now!

Jenn's positivity shines through as she shares personal experiences and techniques to work through life's issues. I felt like she was standing beside me actually cheering for me, "You are NOT broken!" as I read the chapters that really spoke to me. She reminds you to take kitten steps, bringing home the fact that small steps can lead to big changes in your life. I made notes and marked up the chapters that were most relevant to me. Jenn's methods are straightforward. She stresses being kind and gentle with yourself. You will get there. I am grateful for all of the useful and practical tips!

It’s a no-nonsense explanation and guide addressing defensive behaviors we all learned in childhood that may no longer serve us well. Jenn’s style is pleasantly conversational, encouraging readers to take “kitten steps,” while openly sharing her own struggles and journey. She reminds us that we are not alone or broken. The chapters are short and easy to read so I grab it and reread a chapter when I need encouragement or a little confidence.

The author has some interesting ideas on shame and titling conditions and issues. I like when she talks about training your brain to be kind to itself and how anxiety responses are our brain's way of helping us to stay alive. However, the book seems self-published as the sentence structure is sometimes difficult to follow. It contains good information, but I think the book could have been much better with some professional editing or critique.
