Priscilla Masters' writing career started in 1987 when she published Mr. Bateman's Garden, a children's book set in Biddulph Grange Gardens belonging to the National Trust. After that she created Inspector Joanna Piercy and has now also written a number of Medical Mysteries.
Priscilla Masters lives in Shropshire, England. She works part-time in Staffordshire as a practice nurse.
As I've stated before, I am 80 and have read mysteries for decades, starting with Nancy Drew. Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle followed. Then came Sue Grafton and Sara Paretsky. Now I read Harlan Coben and Cleo Coyle as well as John Grisham and David Baldacci. The reason I list these is because I was not aware of Priscilla Masters (Sorry!) until recently and chose to purchase this series in a set. I was pleasantly informed because the stories were interesting and well-written. Detective Piercy also has a great life story to share, and it unfolds throughout the series.
Be aware that these works are heavily driven by character analysis and presentation. Each novel, in my opinion, reads like a police procedural which can seem plodding at times. True police work, however, is not settled in 48 minutes as portrayed on TV but rather through constant interviews, review of evidence and re-evaluating prior information. These novels present their storylines in this manner. Enjoy!
Another series I can highly recommend . The storylines are very unique and different. When you get into the psyche of Joanna Piercy you will either find a kindred spirit or someone you can't quite get. .Her personal flaws make her more human somehow. Though her psychological background is not part of the main focus - you will find there is a definite analytical component to understanding each of the characters the stories are based upon-Joanna's gut instinct/ is used to sift through the mire of overwhelming data to find the single grain of truth that leads to each perpetrator. These aren't cozy mysteries-they are gutsy police procedurals with a very realistic outcome. Not for the squeamish as some parts are quite graphic.-especially the forensic scenes. Great stories./ thank you Priscilla Masters
The complete Detective Joanna Piercy Mysteries Books 1-15.
I love these books. I have read them at every opportunity. In fact it has taken me under 2 weeks to get to the end of the 15 books. The author has just the right prescription for a good read. The crime cases are very interesting, full of carefully researched detail, and of very different plots. The Staffordshire Moorlands are brought to life & contribute greatly to the storylines She adds to the mix Joanna's colourful love life with the pathologist associated with the Leek police. Her struggles with her career & motherhood are extremely well described. I believe book 16 is in the pipeline. Good! I can't wait!
This series of books has brought me back to reading after years of not being bothered with books. It really helped that I know the Staffordshire Moorlands area . This enhanced the reading experience as I was able to place the characters in the described locations and imagine them there I also enjoyed getting to know the characters and their interactions as the stories developed. My only negative comment is that I am sorry that the series has come to the end
I enjoyed this box set of British crime thrillers; each story engaging and enjoyable.
I didn't like all of the characters - not counting the villains. Matthew, his daughter and parents were selfish and horrible. I don't know why Joanna stuck with him. However, there was a good mix of characters, an interesting plot /crime for each book and a great sense of place.
I liked the way Jo respected her team and the general set up of the police enquiries. There was good comparison /contrast between men and women in the police and career versus family.
I just finished the 15 book compilation of Joanna Piecy. It was mostly a good read and I would recommend the set to anyone who likes English Murder Mysteries. For the most part all of the mysteries were good except for the last book. The murderer was no one you’d know because the clue was given in the very last part of the book. I was very disappointed.
I devoured this series in a very short time, finishing one book, starting the next immediately. The author takes you on a whirlwind of tantalizing crimes with Joanna Piercy as the main protagonist. She is intense and persistent as you follow her thought process but to further the attraction of the series, you also follow the thread of her personal life. I very much enjoyed this series. Well written, well paced, very satisfying.
British Moors. Setting for determined police officer.
Joanna stars as trail blazing detective following her passion to find the truth, while feeling guilty about short-changing her baby and husband who has an equally demanding career as a pathologist. Yet murderers get caught and brought to justice and she barely hangs on to her marriage and motherhood. A little repetitive as she obsesses over clues & scenarios to bring the truth out.
I really enjoyed reading this series and regret never reading them before however I did struggle with the timeline until i separated the current affairs type references from Joanna's relationship with Matthew. It appeared to me that her career seemed to span two decades but her relationship much less than that.
I truly enjoyed the humanness of Joanna. To Be a great DI and still be human enough to admit you may not be mother material was refreshing. To be truly human is not to fit into a preformed mold that society has constructed but to be our imperfect selves. Priscilla Masters.... You are one great author!!!!
On first picking up a whole series of 15 books, I didn't know if I would get to the end, but it was so lovely to finish one story and just move onto the next. I would heartily recommend everyone just to sit down and enjoy the series, you will not be disappointed. Thank dear author, and please keep on writing !!! Su Lowe xxx
Realistic view of the struggles facing police when trying to bring justice to the victims of crime. The tug of war between work and private lives is also very well presented. Great challenge for the reader to gather the clues and try to reach the solution ahead of the Inspector.
I thoroughly enjoyed the 15 episode series. It wasn’t a binge as I spaced the episodes ou 2 oe 3 at a time. I thought the main characters were well developed and followed them through life changing patterns. I particularly enjoyed the relationship that developed between my two main characters, the DI and her DS. I would heartedly recommend this series.
These were fantastic books I love the fact that I didn't have to wait months for the next book. Love the way the characters were carried on in every book. Great descriptive in each scene. Being dyslexic I need writing that catches my Interest right at the start. Each 1 of these books did exactly that!
Great stories, wonderful characters with intriguing backstories. It's hard to put down. Good look into police procedures, giving the reader into how important trusted partners are.
My usual pace is to read a book a day and these books with the inspector Piercy are absolutely the best. There’s no boring repeats each book is like a new one. I don’t know what I’m gonna read now that I’m through all 15 books. Thank you thank you!
Started and then spent far toooooo much time reading these books, excellent quality, would recommend to all just make sure if your female that the house work is done first, this really had me hooked
I thought it was amazing I had trouble putting it down until I had read all 15 books. The twist and turns, the problems a couple of professionals have with a family and difficult jobs.. Absolutely love bed them.
Thank for writing these books. I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of them, I've finished one and dived into the next one immediately. I hope to read more of your writing
These 15 books were really great. I loved all the characters. I would recommend these books to anyone who like cozy mysteries. The author was masterful in the way she presented each and every story.
Shorter than past books but kind of nice since I read all 15 pretty quickly. Sometimes I get irritated by Joanna and Matt's relationship but I guess it does depict the struggles of maintaining a marriage, child and dialing careers. Look forward to 16.
The characters were well drawn and felt like real people. I’ll miss them now it’s finished. Ms Masters makes her stories seem credible and realistic, and includes just the right amount of their lives within the case and outside the job. Definitely enjoyable.
I got through this series at a cracking pace as I couldn't wait to read the next each time I came to the end of one. Loved the way the plots unfolded and the main characters became more rounded as we got to know them.
I have loved these books. The characters have depth and over the series, you feel like you get to know them. Great plots which are sometimes complicated but keep you reading. I'm gutted I've finished the whole series
