A pleasant enough Christmas novel. Not badly written but the relationship of the characters and the plot were incredibly obvious right from the beginning.

Confession, Truth, and Love Conquer All!

Katie Winters (apt name!) gives readers another Christmas gift, this one set in a family-owned inn near White Plains, New Jersey. In a series of flashbacks that give context, Winters shows the fairytale Summers family gatherings every Christmas of Charlotte Summers's childhood, with aunts and uncles and cousins galore; the terrible Christmas when Charlotte brought home her selfish fiance and the family hated him; the other terrible Christmas when an accident changed a Manhattan developer's life forever; and the nearly terrible "final Christmas" when Charlotte and her fault-finding mother think Charlie's development company is going to buy, renovate, and flip the family's Cherry Inn--sacrilege in their eyes but mere dollar signs in the developers'.
In New York City, Charlie flees yet another gala in his honor, which he thinks he doesn't have, and drives two hours to a rented cabin in White Plains, hoping to exorcise or at least escape old demons. He wanders down Main Street, sees the Cherry Inn, and can't resist his developer's instinct to visualize it with the same Victorian charm outside but ultra-modern conveniences inside. No library--just a wall of glass to give guests a view of downtown in its nostalgic glory (only external; the interiors will all be modern)! No quaint, old-fashioned wallpaper--just smooth grey walls with sky-blue ceilings! In short, none of the current Cherry Inn's homey atmosphere. He excitedly presents his plans to Charlotte, who shuts him down and bluntly refuses to consider changing the deteriorating inn, no matter how much money he offers her.
Charlie's mentor, Baxter Bailey, and one of his associates arrive in White Plains, thrilled that Charlie has another project in the works! Charlie wants to save face, so he says he's "talking to the family" and thinks they'll "come around". He gives no promises or time frames, but Baxter and his associate take his vague answer as a "yes" and celebrate at the diner where Charlotte's mother works. Now Charlotte's mother has something real to criticize! They argue, Charlotte dismisses her mom, and peace comes temporarily to the Cherry Inn. But Christmas is coming, and the inn needs a thorough cleaning and modest cosmetic changes before she can invite her family to the inn for one "last Christmas" before they lose the inn to Charlie's company (not Charlie, of course--he respects the Summers family, particularly Charlotte, too much to run roughshod over their memories) and its soulless updates.
Charlie accepts Charlotte's invitation but stands in the corner until he's driven out of his funk by Rudy, Charlotte's cousin and the local bartender, who tells him essentially to get over himself and tell Charlotte his sad story. He does, and instead of pushing him away for being a murderer, she draws him close and reminds him that the accident wasn't his fault, so neither were the deaths of his wife and teenage daughter. He takes a deep breath and feels...free. Charlotte, meanwhile, embraces her newest family member, baby Ethan, born Thanksgiving night to her daughter and absent son-in-law. Charlotte's mother can't find anything to criticize about her great-grandson, and a month-old baby reconciles grandma and great-grandma.
The book ends with a "sideways" happily ever after--no proposals, marriages, or pregnancy announcements, just another Summers family Christmas at the Cherry Inn, now under new ownership! Charlie's wife and daughter have become a second family to Charlotte as they restore the inn, not to its former glory but to its former heart. Merry Christmas to all!
I love the unconventional love story here, between a woman and the memories of her childhood rather than a man. Charlie needs to learn to love himself again, to let go of his self-hatred, and learn to love again--the inn this time, rather than a woman. It's left unclear how things stand with C and C, but if they're drawn together by a shared passion for the Cherry Inn, their relationship will likely last a lifetime. I enjoyed Katie Winters's Healing of Christmas very much and wholeheartedly recommend it!

Home for the holidays. Sounds cozy, right? Unless, of course, you’ve got unresolved family drama, old wounds that refuse to heal, and an ex who still manages to make your heart do that stupid thing. In The Healing of Christmas, Katie Winters delivers a beautifully messy, deeply nostalgic second-chance romance where Christmas magic might just work—but not before dragging you through every complicated emotion first.

Our heroine isn’t thrilled about coming back to her childhood home. It’s supposed to be a short, festive, drama-free visit (ha, good luck), but the second she steps back into this small-town bubble, it’s clear she’s in for more than just Christmas cookies and awkward family dinners. There are old memories lurking in every corner, past mistakes waiting to pounce, and, of course, one very significant person she never fully got over. The town is still the same. He’s still the same. The only thing that’s changed? The way she has to decide whether she’s strong enough to finally face everything she’s been avoiding.

At 4.5 stars, The Healing of Christmas is the kind of holiday read that sneaks up on you—sweet and sentimental one moment, emotionally gutting the next. The romance? Slow, layered, and filled with just the right amount of longing. The small-town charm? Practically a character itself, bustling with traditions, well-meaning meddlers, and a sense of home that’s impossible to ignore. While this is book two in A Frosty Season series, it works perfectly as a standalone—though once you step into this world, good luck leaving it behind.

Book 2 of the 'A Frosty Season Series' is about healing in the Christmas season and is a good book to read after the 2024 election when many of us are trying to heal. I love the family gatherings at Christmas and Charlotte's memories were magical as were those of her numerous cousins who had spread throughout the country over the years. As years passed, their beloved Cherry Inn has seen the wear of time, aging generations and death of her Grandmother. The once grand Inn has become dilapidated, a site that wears on the family that always loved it and treasured the Christmas celebrations and traditions when the Inn was emptied to welcome the entire family. They all grieved the loss and wondered what would become of years of memorable holidays and family rifts and losses. Charlotte saw it as a place she could bring her daughter Van to heal her troubled marriage and pending birth and revive one last Christmas with her aging Grandfather, Hank. Little did she know it would bring her a new friend when she visited her favorite cousin Rudy's White Plains tavern. I love Winter's (apros name) Winter holiday tales and series and you will too, when you pick up this or start this series with "Second Chances" to cheer your winter and/or holiday. Highly recommend.

A Christmas story about family, memories and love. Charlotte spent her childhood visiting her grandparents at the Cherry Inn. She and her mother had a falling out over her marriage and hadn't spoken to each other in years. When Charlotte's daughter Van experiences a horrible marriage and has her baby alone, they escape to the Cherry Inn and stay with her grandfather. The inn is worn down and has been closed for 10 years. Charlotte dreams of reopening it and runs into Charlie, a NY developer who came to White Plains to escape the person he had become. He designs plans to turn the inn into a fancy futuristic inn and she is furious. Charlie backs off but they become friends and have romantic feelings. Charlotte is disappointed when her grandfather refuses to reopen the inn and decides to sell. Charlie's former boss was so excited about the remodeling of the inn, but Charlie changes his mind. When they decide to go behind Charlie's back and make an off, the family is crushed that this will be the last Christmas here. But Charlie comes up with a better plan to bring life back to the inn.

A Christmas story of love, loss, rebuilding, tragedy and recovery. Single mother Charlotte is home alone when daughter Van calls with news she is in labor without her husband. When baby Ethan is born, Charlotte is determined to take her daughter and grandson to White plains to the family’s Cherry Inn. Meanwhile successful developer Charlie has rented a rustic cabin in White Plains. Charlie is reliving his tragic past. When the pair meets, sparks fly. But wealthy developers make Charlotte’s grandfather a generous offer to buy Cherry Inn, the couple’s future may be over before it starts?

Will the family enjoy a last Christmas at Cherry Inn? Will grandfather sell the inn? Can Charlotte find happiness again? Will Charlie overcome his past? Lots of issues to overcome

Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion.

Charlotte ‘s daughter Van has given birth to a son it made her think of all the christmases they spent at White Plain the Christmas destination.

Charlotte has a new grandson . He was born the day after Thanksgiving to her daughter Van. Van’s husband had walked out the week before leaving charlotte to be the support needed to her daughter and grandson.
Charlotte wanted to get them out of the city back to The Cherry Inn her grandfather still lived there and that had been the place of peace for the whole family all her life. But things had changed and the place had run down. Now it was the family who needed to step up and clean it for the family to come again. The world they all knew was on the brink of change.

Book 2 in A Frosty season Series is spectacular. The main setting is the Cherry Inn, located in White Plains, New Jersey. I really liked the "humanity" of this book. The main characters are Charlotte and Charlie, a famed but despondent property developer. I enjoy stories with characters of different ages, and this one actually has 5 generations in it. The plot is complex and very realistic, treating the estrangement between Charlotte and her mother, her decision to help Grandpa save his inn, and her concern for her daughter and new grandbaby. This has been one of my favorite Katie Winters' books and it's a must-read.

This was so sweet. Exactly what every Christmas story should be like. I loved reading about Charlottes early life and how returning to Whote Plains was such a beautiful moment. Of course coming full circle with her own daughter and her new grandson. Charlie had a huge tragedy and needs to open himself up to people and maybe love. Add in an old inn and some family dra,a and this was just a great story.

I am very happy about all the good authors I have been able to choose from. I enjoy good clean books with good stories and have found and many really good Christian love story options which I especially enjoy. My husband and I are retired and both enjoy reading.

Another great Christmas story

This book is a great story about life, family, change, love, pain and happiness in the future. Surrounding a family Inn that has definitely fallen apart over the years, the main characters meet while each is going through changes. Big money tries to go beyond what the Inn is meant to be. In the end, happiness and love win!!

Wonderful Christmas (family) Fairy Tale

Charlotte and Charlie's lives and how they entwined together over the year was entertaining. It kept me wanting to read the next page more and more.

moving on

Change is hard as is moving on. Mother daughter drama and tragedy all entwined with love and memories. Stubbornness can steal your life and you do not realize it and the same goes for death. Can love bring happiness to the family? Can love heal a mourning heart? This book holds the answers!

A really sweet story!

This one was very sweet, a bit sad in places, but what a beautiful ending! I had hoped they would all be in the same town when I started the first book, but ended up loving each one!

The Healing of Christmas

Such a realistic story about a family and their differences. This happens way to much. But the Inn was a fairy tale that could bring them back together. Very warm and true to heart.
