An innocent man doesn’t run. He fights.

Award-winning author Jeff Kerr draws on his deep attachment to Texas and the great Western novel to produce the gripping crime thriller Blunt Force Trauma. Packed with authentic characters and stunning twists, Kerr’s masterfully crafted cowboy stew of action and suspense kicks off the Adam Cash series with a double-barreled bang.

Returning to small-town Pinyon, Texas after two combat tours in Afghanistan, Adam Cash sets his sights on a deputy sheriff job. But Sheriff Griff Turner, the high school bully who has despised Cash for years, is only too pleased to slam that door in his face.

Haunted by memories of war and faced with the reality that the one who got away – high school sweetheart, Edie – is now lost to him forever, Cash’s personal pressure cooker boils hotter. Furious, he launches a longshot campaign for Sheriff to depose Turner but loses in a landslide. And when Turner is found dead the very next day, all eyes—and all the evidence—point to Cash.

On the run and fighting to clear his name, Cash’s secret investigation reveals a darker truth threatening to destroy countless lives. Only Cash can catch the killer and save the innocents, even as he gasps for one last desperate shot at Edie and redemption.

A lawman murdered. A war veteran framed. A sinister plot uncovered. One last shot at redemption.

If you like Craig Johnson and C.J. Box, then you’ll love Blunt Force Trauma, the first thrilling installment in the Adam Cash Series. Get this book and catch all the action right from the start!

This author is also published under Jeffrey Stuart Kerr.

Jeff Kerr wasn’t born in Texas but says “y’all” like a native. He wrote a poem in the third grade that earned him a school prize, a book about the American flag. You’d think that would have inspired him to become a writer but that came later.

Jeff wrote and published his first book twenty years ago. He hadn’t planned on doing so until one night at the supper table his son interrupted a discourse about local history by saying, “Enough, Dad! Write a book.” Choosing to interpret a teenager’s flip remark as sage advice, he did. Six books later, he calls himself an author. So there.

When Jeff isn’t writing you can find him floating a Texas river or battling cedar on his small slice of Hill Country land. When he is writing, he stays busy by creating pulse-pounding crime thrillers that, according to one reader, “move along like a runaway locomotive.” Thank you, son.

This is the first book in the “Adam Cash” series. I will say this much, the Second Book, “Second Death” was excellent. This one was a little slow.
I understand, when writing a series, one must do the leg work and go through the developmental stage for all the characters. For me, this one spent too much time plodding along. Just didn’t grab me like the first one. And I’ll admit, the series gets better as you move on to the next book.
And now the storyline. Adam Cash has moved back to Pinyon, TX. in hopes of getting a job in law enforcement. Unfortunately, Sheriff Turner will have none of it. He is still pissed off that Cash was a better athlete at football then he was ten years ago. His revenge is not hiring him. Cash falls into a bit of despair, for good jobs are hard to find and he doesn’t want to build, fix and mend fences the rest of his life.
Then he gets the idea of running for Sheriff with the help of his on again, off again girlfriend Edie. Cash has an encounter with Turner the day of the elections and it turns into fist being thrown and harsh words exchanged. He goes to a local bar and starts knocking them down. He passes out on a bench in the square. When he awakens, his world is about to be upside down for the winner of the election, Turner has been murdered and Cash is the number one suspect. Not a bad storyline.
Cash is determined to clear his name and find out who did murder Turner.
There are a lot of twists and turns, but they came across as anti-climactic. There was no “GOTHCA” in the storyline. If the author could have held back who the bad guys were a little longer, the ending would have been exciting to say the least.
No grammatical issues to note. That’s nice and refreshing.
If you’re a fan of a decent crime novel, you will enjoy this one.
Three and-a-half stars round up to four.

I had never heard of Jeff Kerr when I downloaded Blunt Force Trauma, it was the cover and the title that grabbed my attention. Today with eBooks, it is easy and inexpensive to try out new authors, and there are many incredibly talented new writers out there waiting to be discovered. Jeff Kerr is one of those exceptionally talented authors just waiting to be discovered.

I am an adrenaline junkie. I thrive on adrenaline-fueled, roller-coaster thrill rides, and Blunt Force Trauma is a thriller that kept me glued to the edge of my seat as I burned through the pages to find out what was going to happen next. The plot line is not new, it has been used by many authors over the years. An Army vet returns to his small hometown with a dream of becoming a sheriff’s deputy, but the sheriff refuses to hire him because Adam was a better athlete in high school, and he still hated Adam because of it. Adam took up the gauntlet and ran against the sheriif in the election for sheriff and lost. The sheriff and a few of the deputies are involved in selling weapons, drugs, human trafficking, and child pornography. When the sheriff threatens to turn against them and close them down, he is killed, and Adam is framed for his murder. Adam goes on the run and must bring the real killer down while avoiding capture himself. Since this is Book 1 in the Adam Chase series, we know he succeeds. What makes these stories new and different is the approach the author takes in telling them, and Kerr’s approach is unique. The way this tale ended blew me away. I cannot wait until Book 2; Second Death comes out this spring.

Jeff Kerr is a master storyteller. His plots hang together and follow a logical storyline. His characters are well developed but not to the point of a tedious predictability. The characters operate in terms of their motivations and purposes.

Blunt Force Trauma is not an exception. If you have read his prequel, Ambush, you are already familiar with Adam Cash and Gabe Santos. In his latest offering Kerr gives us nearly 400 more pages of Cash and his army buddy Santos.

Cash was hoping to be hired on to the Pinyon, Texas sheriff's department as a deputy. After all, he had army experience plus a degree in criminology from Sam Houston State. But the recently elected sheriff remembered Cash from High School when they were rivals and refused to hire him or even consider doing so. Therefore Cash ran against him in the next election and lost by a margin of about 2 to 1.

Later that night the sheriff's dead body was found with one of Cash's campaign flyers stuffed in his mouth. Even worse, what appeared to be the murder weapon was found with Cash's fingerprints in Cash's car.

Can Cash evade the acting sheriff and his deputies long enough to prove his innocence and hopefully find the real killer? Thus begins a nail-biting tale of bravery, justice, friendship, and at the same time a tale of corruption and betrayal.

The coined adjective "unputdownable" is used in numerous book reviews, but I will simply point out that I read this novel in one sitting. Yeah, it's that good!

Adam Cash served two terms in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Jeff Kerr's novel Blunt Force Trauma, he's returned to his hometown of Pinyon, Texas. Yet despite his service to his country, a university degree, and training at a police academy in Austin, he’s stuck doing odd jobs. When Sheriff Turner—a high school rival—rejects his application, Adam’s had enough. If Adam can’t belong in this small town, he’ll rule it as the new sheriff!

Trained to return enemy fire, Adam makes a poor impression as a political candidate. Yet the morning after losing the election to his rival, deputies find the sheriff's body. As the evidence piles up, all fingers point Adam's way. Forget innocent until proven guilty. Adam must find the sheriff's killer to avoid prison in Blunt Force Trauma.

Adam's far from perfect in Jeff Kerr's novel. His yearning to see the world left his girlfriend's life in tatters. A drunken one-night stand left another woman with a child to raise. Jack’s hair-trigger anger, his penchant for endangering his friends, and a sense of entitlement make him far from perfect. Yet Adam’s not a murderer. Now, if only he can prove it.

Jeff Kerr paints a scathing portrait of small-town Texan life in Blunt Force Trauma. Corruption and greed plague the innocent and make good people's lives miserable. Can one good man balance the scales and make Pinyon a town worth living in again? Pair this High Plains Drama with chocolate milk and cookies, and find out!

In the small town of Pinyon, Texas, the dreams of Cash Adams come face to face with harsh reality when he goes from hopeful candidate for becoming a police officer, to the prime murder suspect in the death of the Sheriff. His dreams of becoming a small-town cop seemingly go up in smoke as his reputation, and freedom, are put on the line, and the very system he hoped to join becomes his adversary.
Jeff Kerr masterfully crafts a narrative filled with twists and turns, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. Cash’s journey from hopeful recruit to prime suspect is fraught with tension, as he navigates a labyrinth of small-town secrets, hidden grudges, and unexpected revelations. His innocence is tested at every turn, and the stakes couldn't be higher –his freedom, his future, and the very soul of his community hang in the balance.
This novel is a must-read for fans of crime thrillers and suspense, and TV shows like Justified, and Longmire. It's a story about fighting for what's right, even when the odds are stacked against you, and the lengths a man will go to protect his name and his home. Prepare for a gripping ride that will keep you enthralled until the very last page.

A must read!

Author Jeff Kerr masterfully crafts a crime thriller with all the elements of a great Western novel. The story revolves around Adam Cash, a war veteran who returns to his small Texas hometown and finds himself in a battle for justice and redemption.
The author's knack for creating suspenseful twists keeps the reader engaged and eager to uncover the truth behind the mysterious murder of Sheriff Griff Turner.
The character of Adam Cash is compelling, haunted by his past and driven by his pursuit of justice. As he races against time to clear his name, the emotional stakes are high, and readers can't help but root for his redemption.
If you're a fan of gripping crime thrillers with a Texan twist and a dash of the Wild West, this book is definitely worth a read. It's a tale of lawmen, veterans, sinister plots, and one last shot at redemption that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Cash is a good Character.

Cash is a good hero, not a super hero or a dumb hero, just a real life hero. The book has good characters that are well developed. The author keeps to his story line as the story develops. There is no jumping around with the story or the characters. Cash wants to work for the sheriffs department and he wants his old girlfriend back. This pretty well keeps his mind operating at this point. The sheriff just happens to be the school bully when Cash was in school, so Cash gets turned down for the job and laughed at by the sheriff. Cash runs for sheriff, loose and has a fight with sheriff. Cash is blamed for the sheriff’s murder, then Cash is on the run while investigating the murder.

This is a good book that keeps your interest all the way through. Read and enjoy.

Blunt Force Trauma is a hard hitting crime thriller that introduces Adam Cash, a war veteran trying to rebuild his life in small-town Texas. After returning from Afghanistan, Cash hopes to become a deputy sheriff, but longtime enemy Sheriff Griff Turner shuts him out. When Cash runs against Turner in a bitter election and loses, tensions are already high then Turner is murdered.
With the evidence pointing straight at him, Cash is forced to flee and uncover the truth behind the killing. Haunted by war, past mistakes, and a lost love, he digs into a conspiracy far darker than he imagined. Clearing his name may be his only path to redemption.
Fast-paced and packed with grit, Blunt Force Trauma blends modern Western atmosphere with sharp suspense, making it a strong start to the Adam Cash series.

4.5*s! I started this book and put it down between Chapters 5 & 6, which is unusual for me. It was slow moving and seemed to be just another story of an ex-Army vet, who had served in Afghanistan, came home and none of his plans were working out for him. (I support ALL Vets!) I picked the book back up and was glad that I did! Adam Chase (our hero) was sympathetic and likeable. The story morphed into a murder with several different side plots. Characters, both good and bad, are well fleshed out. The story goes through zigs, zags, searches and research and comes to a satisfying conclusion. I'm glad I picked the book back up and stayed with the story. It was well worth it. I received this book as an ARC member and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Blunt Force Trauma was my introduction to the writing of Jeff Kerr. This first book in his Adam Cash series is full of action. Twenty-eight year old Adam Cash is living in Pinyon, Texas He decides to run for sheriff against current Sheriff, Griff Turner. Turner wouldn't hire Adam as a deputy due to his unresolved jealousy from high school. Not surprisingly, Turner wins by a 3-to 1 margin, but then is found murdered. Since Adam was the murder victim's election opponent, he is the now the number one suspect. He knows that he'll have to solve the murder in order to prove his innocence. This book is well written and has a good pace. The author weaves everything together and ends up with a plausible ending.

If you want a read that has murder, corruption, a false accusation, slavery, a recipe for 'Migas' and a good old fashioned dose of detective work then this is a novel for you. I won't spoil your enjoyment by outlining the plot but I will say that it convinced me even more that too much local democracy and consequent abuse of power is bad. I enjoyed it so much that I read it through, breaking only to have my tea, till I was finished. A thoroughly enjoyable read and can't wait for the follow up novel after I've tried to make some migas!

I was given an ARC but the views are my own.

Small town secrets

I love small towns! Everybody knows everybody. Or do they? Adam Cash really wants to return to the town where he grew up, where he had his first kiss, where he played football. Where he gathered a few grudges. He thought he had the deputy position in the bag. Ahhh, those old high school grudges. Then the sheriff is murdered. Cash is the prime suspect. This is a well written story, great character development, the town descriptions make you want to visit. I'll be reading more of this series

This book did not disappoint! This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m looking forward to more! The plot line was great and the characters were well written. The book flowed nicely and kept me interested. I didn’t want to put it down. The only downside I have to this was there was a lot of characters so at times it was a tad hard to keep up with who was who. Other than that a great read and I highly recommend it!

Blunt Force Trauma is a crime thriller that will keep you avidly reading. You don’t expect all the twists & turns. Adam Cash has his work cut out to figure what was going down in town & beyond. There’s so many characters, a lot of them rotten to the core. Thankfully there’s good men & women too. Look forward to reading more from Jeff

Blunt Force Trauma (The Adam Cash series Book 1), my first read from authorJeff Kerr. An enjoyable well-written, murder mystery, which looks to be the first in a series of. “I received a Audibdle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. The next book in the series is Second Death (The Adam Cash series Book 2) which I'll have to read after reading this book. This story line grabs the reader quickly and holds on tight until the end. I read it in one day…difficult to put it down. Well written characters who are easily distinguished from the others. I admire the ethics of the protagonist. Even though he has a history of being a hero, he still remains humble. A very likable and believable character.

This is the second book of this author's that I have read. It did not disappoint. Jeff Kerr writes very believable characters, warts and all. He also writes action scenes with a very deft hand. A true story teller.

I enjoyed reading this. Adam Cash wants to join the police force but cannot get around the men who are still envious over his success even years out of high school. The sheriff is murdered and he is framed for it and is vigorously pursued by the new acting chief. An interesting story. I picked up Second Death right away. I recommend reading the free story, Ambush, first. Recommended author!

Outstanding!

I resisted reading what I thought - wrongly - was another Texas cowboy mystery after a friend recommended the book. The refreshing characters have depth and charisma. I found myself caring about them early on. The plot kept me guessing with believable twists all the way through a satisfying ending. Wanting more, I ordered the next two books in the series.

Be careful if you return to your hometown.

This a a tale that will have you guessing at every turn. The characters are believable. Some you will love. Others you will hate, and others you're not sure how to feel about them. It is a tale worth your time if you like mystery and some violence in your stories. Give this one a try. You won't be disappointed.

First book in the series

Set in a small Texas town with a questionable sheriff; bad things are happening. Adam Cash is a local boy and Army veteran who applies for a job as deputy sheriff and is refused. That’s when bad things start to happen to him. A great story.

Blunt Force Trauma -

What can I say? How about:

A but too stupid, too long, too unrealistic!
This book started out ok but just went on and on. The author had the characters doing things nobody in their right mind would do. Avoid this one. I rate it at 2.5 stars but rounded up.

This was a story with a "real" person as the main character. He's not a superhero nor super anything. He's a regular sort of good guy who thinks things through, mainly. He gets framed for murder and has to think his way out of it, with help from some friends. Enjoyable story.

I betcha you'd enjoy this one.

The action is well written. It's amazing to me that the storyline kept me right in there, yet seemed very quiet. I really liked that. The characters are varied, interesting, and believable. This is a lovely book.
