Nola Green is a beautiful, multi talented young woman. One terrible loss after another causes her to lock her heart behind an impenetrable wall and has her determined to never fall into the trap of attachment again. Remaining focused on her goals, Nola moves across country to Los Angeles to chase her dreams. Nola manages to successfully avoid long term romantic attachments for some time before a handsome, arrogant playboy appears in her life and shows her that wall isn’t as impenetrable as she thought. Marley Wilson is a successful tattoo artist and ladies man. Hell bent on being a bachelor for the rest of his life, he runs through women like it’s going out of style. Growing up with two unfit parents is what he blames his behavior towards women on. Marley never had a problem getting exactly what he wanted from women until he met Nola. Her ability to dismiss his advances intrigued him further as she may be the first woman to catch his interest past sex. When two people feel the same way about attachments cross paths will they be exactly what the other needs? Could something worthwhile become of the toxic pair?
When I started this book, I was so excited because I was drawn in immediately with the storyline and character, Nola. Although Nola had suffered some great losses early on, I wasn't overwhelmed with graphic details as a reader and I appreciated that. However, the more I read, I realized I wasn't getting enough details about anything. I wasn't being immersed in the story. This story was simply told in fragmented parts to me. It had such potential to be a great read, but it just didn't do it for me. This was my first read from this author and I think I would try another read, because I really did like the premise of the story and the characters, for the most part.
Definitely a great start to a wonderful novel. I really want more though. It feels rushed at the end. I just knew the guy who started the second shop was going to be her brother 😜. Let me find another book by this author.
Markey and Nola was definitely up & down. Both were stubborn and didn’t know how to love due to not being raised in a healthy environment. I loved that Marley made his mistake and took accountability with changed behavior. Nola honestly got on my last nerves. I get he cheated but either take him back or move on. After 6 years & 4 kids later she still had a piss poor attitude.
This was a really good book. I’m glad I downloaded it during the BRAE last week. The author took time developing the characters so I feel like I know them well. Marley and Nola💜
