She’s my best friend’s daughter and I have no business wanting her the way I do. Especially since it’s my fault that her dad died. Call it survivor’s guilt, if you must, I just know, I’m to blame.

Still when she comes to me for help, I can’t refuse her. Which means sleeping on my sofa so she can take my bed.

Emerson is temptation personified. Giving into my desires and touching her would make me the worst sort of man.

But everyone has their limits. Being constantly around her delicious curves proves to be my undoing. She should be forbidden fruit, but I don’t care anymore. I want her and I’m going to make her mine.

The Whiskey Men: Wounded Heroes series is about a group of wounded ex-mercenaries. They each have their own battles they’re fighting but with the love of a woman, they no longer have to do it alone. Unbreakable Bond is a wounded hero, Curvy woman, age gap, dad’s best friend, all the feels, small town romance. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone.

So while I did like this, the back and forth feelings annoys the crap out of me. Just tell the person your hesitation and move on. People aren’t mind readers.

Unbreakable Bond is the 4th book the Whiskey Men Wounded Heroes Series by Hope Ford.

Kanan and Emerson have a bond that was established years ago when he rescued her from a cartel. He and her father were best friends, but since his funeral, he has denied his feelings for her. So when she turns up unexpectedly on his doorstep with no place to go, he opens his home to her, knowing how difficult it will be.

Emerson has been in love with her late father's best friend for years. When she finds she has no where to go, she has no choice but to turn to his military buddies. Of course, Kanan offers her a place to stay, and Walker offers her a job. All the while, she fights her feelings.
But as the two cohabitate, this becomes much more difficult. Kanan is also harboring a secret he believes will destroy any chance of a future with Emerson.

This is best friends daughter meets wounded war hero at its best. This series has been fantastic, well written, and emotional. The characters are realistic and their stories powerful. This book is no exception. I am glad there should be at least two more books in this series, and I hope more. It is that good! This author has been one of my favorites for a while, and whether it's her sweet romances or the more serious ones like this, they are always so good. I can't wait until the next book.

ARC was provided by Booksprout, and this is my honest review.

It's definitely not a favourite.
It was kind of boring nothing really happened.

This is an age gap story (12 years), which I'm not really a fan of when the feelings start when the girl is a minor.. It's just ick.
But at least nothing happened, I guess.

The constant back and forth on feelings got so frustrating and boring. as well as the body shaming that was definitely not addressed enough.
Emerson, constantly pushing Kanans clear boundaries, gave me the ick and made me dislike her.
Kanan is no Saint. He is a dickhead to be honest. He likes her but doesn't want to pursue it but doesn't want anyone else to. But then forces his best friend to go on a date with her but then calls them constantly after pushing her to go on it. It made no sense.

Despite Kanan constantly saying the age gap is an issue the first time they get together, he agrees to unprotected sex
😒😒😒😒😒😒
WHAT THE ACUTAL F***
It definitely read as her trying to trap him.. and look at that it worked.

Her life is a mess and she wants to finish school (which we aren't allowed to know what she is studying for some reason) his life is a mess but what the hell let's not date just have sex and ofcourse have a baby. What could go wrong 🤔😠🙄

There were a lot of gaps in this story, and maybe I missed something, but it reads like a second story.
There is mention of Kanan and Emerson first meeting when Emerson is 15 and gets kidnapped by the cartel, and her dad enlists his military team to get her back. But that's it nothing more.
There are constant hints about how it affected her, but no details.
I didn't understand her mum's situation.
Did she turn to drugs when her husband died or was this before?
There were no details it just out of no where she has a major problem and stole from her daughter some how (as I'm pretty sure your mother can't touch your trust fund especially if you are 24 years old). This could have been done better with a different back story or more details.

These men are apparently recovering from a major traumatic event (again we are 3 books in with no details on this event just bits and pieces), they couldnt survive on their own so their old boss (walker) had to literally BUILD a rehab facility with accomation and jobs for them to move forward but the author makes everything ok because they meet a girl 🙄😒
It's so ridiculous.

Kanan is traumatised and has survivors guilt (this is even mentioned by Walker and his therapist), but he moves Emerson into his 1 bedroom cabin (because Walker had no spare apartments??) and then a month later they are married and pregnant... like FFS, why can't anyone in these stories just have normal relationships.

I wish this author if she is going to write about veterans would take the time to research these topics and add some realistic details.

It doesn't hurt to do time jumps.
Not everyone has to get married and pregnant within 3 months or at all... some people like to just live with each other, travel, work, date, and not have kids straight away or sometimes not at all. Shocking, I know.

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨3.75/5 stars.

this took longer to read than it should’ve done but that being said I’m pleasantly surprised at this one! I’d say this is my new found favourite in the ‘wounded heroes’ series so far 😁.

Comparing to the previous two instalments I thought this flowed a lot better and to me it read a lot smoother. I also liked both of the MCs, where as previously I’ve not been too keen on one half of the relationship. But, Kanan and Emerson were cute together and I do like the grumpy/sunshine trope, which increased their chemistry for me. It being an age-gap romance was also a plus as I always love reading from that trope.

I wasn’t sure at first about this series when I first started it, and I’m still not entirely sure what to think. However, it has been handy for me in terms of keeping up with my reading challenge and even though I’m still behind on my goal I’m now more enthusiastic about continuing and finishing this series. So if you’re like me and fall behind on your challenges, maybe give these books a go 😌.

Hope Ford is still very much ‘a hit or miss’ for me however, but on this occasion this book was more hit then miss 👍🏻😌. It had a stronger premise then the previous books, the spice, though limited, was swoon worthy, our hero (like with all Hope’s mmc) cared and yearned for our heroine and overall a tidy little palette cleanser that you can pass the time with 🥰.

Thanks to Walker’s help, Kanan may be getting his life back on track, but he’s still a torn man. After two years, he’s tormented over his brother-in-arms/best friend’s death and the guilt he feels over the part he believes he played in Randall not making home alive. He’s still struggling with the permanent damage to his arm he suffered while trying to save his friend that day. He’s in agony because he’s spent years secretly in love with a woman he once rescued, but is off limits. Not only is she 12 years younger than him, she’s also Randall’s daughter. Kanan is torn between his love for Emerson, his misguided feelings of betrayal to his fallen best friend and the belief that he doesn’t deserve love/happiness, let alone to have it with her. They shared a passionate kiss once, and nothing like that can ever happen again. But when Emerson turns up in Whiskey Run needing his help, he’s definitely not turning her away. Apparently he really likes to torture himself, because he insists she stay with him. He’s determined to keep her at arm’s length though, even after finding out their feelings for each other are mutual. In fact, he tries even harder.
Emerson has been in love with Kanan for so long and finding he wants her back has her determined to make him see they should be together. Yet, every time she thinks she is breaking down his walls, Kanan pushes her away. He wants to be with her more than anything but he doesn’t deserve to have her. He’s also afraid once Emerson finds out he’s the reason her dad didn’t make it, she’ll agree and leave. And that would break him for good. Emerson wants to be with Kanan more than anything but she doesn’t know how many more times she can handle him letting her close and then pushing her away. When Kanan gets brave enough to tell her his truths, how will Emerson react to what he has to tell her?

A well-written best friend’s daughter/wounded hero, forced proximity, curvy girl romance with plenty of emotional pull, a dose of spicy goodness and (of course) a Hope Ford HEA!.

Kanan is the best man at, Davis and, Abby’s wedding when Walker comes looking for him to tell him, Emerson is waiting for him up front. When asking Walker if she’s okay or if she’s hurt, he can hear the panic in his voice. Walker says he asked, but she said physically, yes. He had a doctor check her out, and he cleared her. But, something seemed off, she looked worried and asked for him. That's all it took and Kanan was off like a flash to his car driving back to the compound. He knows he shouldn’t have the feelings he does, for his best friend's daughter, but he does. Although he needs to lock those down before he sees her she can’t know.

When he gets to her she is just waking from a nap. She is more beautiful than the last time he saw her two years ago at her father’s funeral. But, she looks disheveled. And, she’s supposed to be in school, why is she here? He’s so worried he is gruff when asking, “Emerson Bug are you okay? Why are you in, Whiskey Run, and not in, Texas? Her thoughts of getting to, Kanan, and then everything will be, okay. That sounds less true, especially, when he starts with her name, Emerson, and then ends it with “bug” in it.

Once she gets into her plight of what occurred she knows, he is angry. However, not at her. Maybe a little, for traveling, via the bus. When she starts to second guess her decision, on whether she should have gone to him, he gets her moving towards his car. Once, Kanan has a handle on his emotions enough to drive, he takes her to his home. For two years, Kanan had been living with survivor's guilt. And he has felt like, he can't move forward until he can come clean, to her. But, with what she tells him that her mom has done to her to bring her to him is outlandish, but true. This is such a good story of a gap-age couple, whose hearts fell in love when he rescued her, at fifteen and he was twenty-seven. Nothing happened, and it was a platonic type, of love or more admiration. Then, at eighteen under the worst of conditions, a kiss is exchanged, between them. Hearts unite and still are not together, because of her dad’s passing, and his guilt.

Kanan was the best friends of her father and part of the mission from which her father never returned. Kanan feels responsible for his death. Emerson and Kanan have an unbreakable bond, that is what her father told her, he rescued her when she was taken hostage with 15. He is the one she loves, also he is a lot older. He also has deep feelings for her, changing to love and lust when she turned 18, but he holds back. After the mission and the funeral of her father, when they kissed, they have not seen each other. But Kanan has been keeping tabs on her without her knowing. Now she is 24 and in her last year of school, when suddenly she has no money, her mother has taken her funds and more. Her mother has taken everything and is gone. Nearly being out of money she turns to Kanan for help. Of course he is there for her, but tries to keep his feelings to himself. He is fighting with his guilt, that he could not rescue her father and not being worth, but he also can not let her go…
Kanan and Emerson really have a special bond and finally help each other to really heal and live the life they deserve and full of love. Like always this author creates special characters and deep feelings. We also revisit a lot of other people we knoe from other stories.

Unbreakable Bond is book 3 in the Whiskey Men: Wounded Heroes series. It is a steamy, small-town, second-chance, curvy girl gets her ex-military man romance. Emerson is the sassy, curvy 24 year old daughter of Randall, one of Walker's soldiers that had been killed in a mission. Kanan is a 36 year old, wounded, hunky ex-military man who was also Randall's best friend. Kanan rescued Emerson when she was 15, and they have had an unbreakable bond since. When things go south for her, she takes a bus from Texas to Tennessee to see Kanan. He lets her stay with him. She has loved him for a while. Kanan has always loved her, but feelings became romantic when she turned 18. He has concerns though about the age gap, guilt over her father's death, and the fact that he was his best friend. Can Emerson show him that he is worthy of love, too? I loved this couple so much. Emerson was so feisty and Kanan a giant teddy bear for her. I wanted to smack Kanan at times to tell him to get out of his head! Their chemistry was hot 🔥 hot 🔥 hot 🔥 and we got a very happy ending finally. I am so excited to finally get Elias's story soon!! I love the entire Whiskey Run world. Everything Hope writes just draws me in, and this was no exception. I loved it!.

Randall did not make it back from the last mission, but his best friend Kanan carried him out so he could go home to his daughter Emerson. Kanan and Emerson had deep feelings for each other ever since he rescued her from the cartel they were taking down. Traumatic emotions and memories from those events haunted them but still pulled them together. For two years, Kanan felt he was responsible for the death as he was carrying Randall on his back when the last shot went to his heart. A lot of dread and feelings kept him from totally letting go and being with Emerson, but she keeps fighting to help him. It is beautiful when he finally talks it out with her and her reactions are priceless. Terrific characters all around and the storyline brings so much detail and history to the group. Definitely a huge family that is growing. Perfect addition to this wonderful series.

Finding Home . . .

She is the daughter of Kanan’s best friend, but he wrongly blames himself for her dad’s death because he couldn’t save him, and he feels he has no right to even look at his daughter. Emerson was attending college, but her mother emptied her trust fund, said her car (which was paid off!) was being be repossessed and took it from her! She returned home but the house was boarded up, everything gone from inside, and she had no idea how long since her mother had run off with everything!

Emerson had nowhere else to turn, but her dad had always told her to go to his best friend if she needed anything. So she finds Kanan and he can’t ignore her need. He provides work for her and she moves in with him. Being together like that, their attraction becomes too tempting. Does she feel the same as he does? Will they decide to pursue a permanent relationship? (And age doesn’t really matter when two people fall in love.)

Rules, he has lots and lots of rules!

But even rules cannot save Kanan's sanity or help him keep his hands to himself....Em is far too tempting....and she is his!
Kanan struggles every day with survivors guilt and is convinced it is his fault Randall is dead, your heart breaks for him as he punishes himself with relentless work and tortures himself with thoughts of Emerson. But he will never make a move because he doesn't think he is worthy of her, she deserves a better man....but who is better than a man who loves her completely, worships her body and would give his life for her?
I like Em, she may be young but she has sass and she quickly clicks just how to play Kanan's game and how to torture him into making a move and show his love. She understands him better than most, so when he finally tells her his worst fears and explains what haunts him - she knows exactly how to assure him and convince him he is wrong. An awesome woman.
A great read on Kindle Unlimited.

This is book number 3 of the Whiskey Men: Wounded Heroes series and focuses on Kanan and Emerson. Kanan and Emerson have had a special bond since she was 15 years old and became so much more as she grew up. Kanan has been in love with Emerson for years but always felt like she was off limits, especially after her dad died on a mission 2 years prior. Kanan has been carrying around an enormous amount of guilt over his best friend's death and feels that it was his fault that he died. When Emerson needs help when her life falls apart, she turns to Kanan, the person she has loved for years. Kanan has some issues to work through before they can finally work towards the future they both want. Once they both get on the same page, nothing stops them from getting the life they want. This was such a great story and a great addition to the series.

A story that made me believe in fated mates even outside the world of fantasy. Kanan and Emerson were just made for each other. Kanan’s guilt over the death of Emerson’s father and their 12-year age difference put a massive obstacle in their path that Emerson found near impossible to surmount. Kanan fights his attraction tooth and nail, despite everyone else seeing they were destined to be together. It’s only when he puts Emerson in a situation of his own making that he realizes his mistake. There’s lots on angst on Kanan’s part, but I loved how sure of herself Emerson was, despite the hot and cold response she keeps getting from Kanan. If, like me, wounded veterans holding themselves back from love, for whatever reason, are your catnip, grab this book today.

Let me start by saying that I enjoyed Kanan and Emerson's story. It was very emotional, and I loved how they helped each other heal from their past and current trauma.
My rating reflects my own personal "ick" of when the MMC and the FMC meet when the FMC is 15. The MMC saves the FMC from the cartel, and the FMC develops feelings for the MMC, who is in the military and her father's best friend. The MMC does not see her as anything but a child until she is over 18, but I hate this trope.
Why are we writing characters so young? Can we please start to move away from this? When the characters are the same age and grow up together, fine. But when one of the characters is underage, and there is a 15-year age gap, what is the purpose of this? Why do they have to know each other when one is a child?

MMC/FMC- Kanan and Emerson
POV- 1st person dual
Genre- Contemporary Romance
Heat- 🌋🌋☄️(1🌋=2☄️). Slow burn.
Series? Y
Safety: Y, meaning no cheating or S. Violence. No cliffhanger, HEA.
Triggers- Memories of past violence, explicit erotic content, language.
Tropes- Former Military, Off Limits, Forced Proximity, She’s All Grown Up, Secret Crush, Survivor’s Guilt, Dysfunctional Family FTW, Found Family.
What I liked- the book was pretty realistic about the effects of war. The characters were complex and layered.
What I didn’t- most of the plot was as follows (spoiler alert):
MMC- I love you
FMC- Yay!
MMC- But I can’t have you.
FMC- *cries*
(Repeat)
It did get a little bit tedious.
But the book was enjoyable to read.

I love me a good dads best friend romance. This one was different than most and I really loved that about it. This series has been great! The one gripe I have about this one is that Kanan is so hot & cold with his feelings towards Emerson. These circumstances are different than the normal “Dads best friend” so I don’t know why he struggled for so long. Even with everyone telling him to act on his feelings, when he would he would instant take it back and say it couldn’t happen again. It’s super frustrating! It got so bad that he decided to have his friend Elias go in a date with Emerson to show her that there are better guys out there 🙄 you can only imagine how that went. Other than that I really enjoyed this one. The found family aspect is always great in Hope Ford’s books. I’m so excited for the next one! I can’t believe we have to wait until Oct 2024 😭

I loved Unbreakable Bond Book 3 of Whiskey Men: Wounded Heroes. Kanan can’t believe it when Walker tells him Emerson is in Whiskey Run. Kanan loves her but the guilt of losing his best friend, her father, keeps him from her. Emerson’s life has taken a strange turn and she has no one to turn to so she ends up in Whiskey Run looking for Kanan, he saved her before and maybe he can help her again. Unfortunately, he’s helping but he’s also pushing her away and maybe it’s time for her to go. This storyline was so amazing and I loved the characters. You definitely need some tissues when you read it. I love how all the characters intertwine from previous books and series. I would definitely recommend this book and the series.

I loved this wounded hero story and the whole series!!! It is the third story in the "Wounded Heroes" series that takes us back to the small town of Whiskey Run. The series is about wounded heroes that have come to the town at Walker's encouragement. They are rehabbing and coming to grips with their new challenges and disabilities. It is a stand alone read with connected characters. This story is father's best friend read about Kanan and Emerson. It is a wonderful story that really pulls on those heart strings. Kanan, was wounded in duty, living with a mangled arm and a lot of guilt. Emerson is he best friends daughter. Her dad was the only one that did not make it home alive from their mission that went wrong. She finds herself broke, alone and in trouble and comes to Kanan for help. This is such a touching read! I love the characters and how their story develops.

The third book in Hope Ford's exceptional Whiskey Men: Wounded Heroes series is Unbreakable Bond, Kanan's story. Kanan rescued Emerson when she was kidnapped at fifteen, and since then the two have had an unbreakable bond. Since her father was killed in the operation that involved many of Walker's men two years ago, Kanan has continued to keep tabs on the beautiful Emmy, now twenty-four. When Emerson shows up out of the blue in Whiskey Run, Kanan is intent on doing everything in his power to take care of her - except for give into his feelings for the younger woman. Can Emerson convince Kanan she's the woman for him - and can he move past the guilt he continues to carry over her father's death? A swoony and steamy age-gap romance, Unbreakable Bond is another must-read by the incomparable Ms Ford.

Unbreakable Bond by Hope Ford is about injured veterans who live together in a commune-style facility. The opening is the wedding of Davis and Abby. These mercenaries, Davis, Kanan, Jason, Elias, Colter, Walker, and Randall, were all on a mission, but Randall never returned alive. Randall's family, his wife, Erika Todd, and his daughter, Emerson, were left in the care of the survivors. Emerson was away at college until her trust fund was emptied, and her mother repossessed her car, although the car had already been paid in full. Emerson shows up in Whisky Run, Tennessee, looking for Kanan, a man twelve years her senior, but feels she is in love with him.

This is my first time reading Hope Ford's work, and while the story was okay, it wasn't anything special I hadn't read before. I was hoping for more, lots more.

Kanan (H36), a wounded war hero, finds himself torn between his desire for curvy Emerson (h24), his best friend's daughter, and the guilt he carries for his friend's death. The age gap between them and Kanan's sense of responsibility adds layers of tension to their relationship. Emerson, who has loved Kanan for years, turns to him for help when her life takes a challenging turn. Their emotional journey is captivating, and as they spend time with one another, their connection deepens, despite Kanan's reservations. Emerson's determination and Kanan's struggle with his feelings create a compelling story in a small-town setting, with well-crafted characters who add to the charm. Hot and steamy age gap, curvy girl, wounded hero forbidden romance with lots of feels.

This is such a great and emotional read about a forbidden romance where both characters long for each other until one day they are forced to live together.
Kanan and Emerson have an unbreakable bond that seems to keep getting stronger each year. They think that their relationship is forbidden since Kanan was Emerson's dad's best friend, and Kanan is keeping a secret that might make her hate him. However, their feelings are so strong that when they start living together, they can't seem to stop their relationship from developing into something more.
Their story is emotional and so good. I loved every second of it and had a hard time putting my phone down to actually work.

Kanen and Emerson have an unbreakable bond, forged when she was just 15 and he saved her from her kidnappers. He was best friends with her Dad, and she loved him from then. Kanen took some time to realise his feelings, but never felt deserving of her.
Coming back from a mission, Emerson's dad didn't survive made him distance himself more due to survivors guilt. However she turns to him when her own mother disrupts her life.

Read this if you enjoy off limits romance, dad's best friend romance, age gap, wounded veteran, veteran romance, curvy female lead, no cheating, dual pov writing, spice, virgin female lead, pure love, strong lovable characters, HEAs.

Kanon is working at the rehab center recovering from the injuries he sustained on their last mission. Kanon was at a wedding when he got the news -Emerson was at the recovery center. He was surprised to know that Emerson was waiting for him. Kanon was busy getting her settled for the night and then they would talk tomorrow. They each had things they needed to tell the other. Kanon had rescued Emerson and now they have a special bond together. But Kanon wants more. He wants Emerson as his wife. He is afraid once she hears about her dad she will run off. Emerson and Kanon are electrifying - super charged, combustible, magnetic. The story is filled with hope, passion, new beginnings and love.

The Whiskey Men's world is getting bigger, and I can't help but try to place the characters in a bigger picture. It's like meeting a person, thinking we know who that person is but are trying to remember how we know them.

Both characters got a reaction from me. I cheered for the FMC when she teased the MMC; that was fun. But there were instances when her insecurities showed. Our MMC is a good man, but I wanted to give him a few words about his survivors' guilt, as his friends did. It was a blessing for them that the people around them knew what they felt for the other and gave their full support, or we wouldn't have a happy ending.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Guilt

Guilt, that is all Kanan feels. He feels guilty that because his best friend died and he feels guilty that he is in love with his best friend’s daughter. He was going through life, just surviving, until she shows up on his doorstep, with nothing. Her whole life has been ripped away, and of course Kanan will protect her and take care of her, just like his best friend would want. He will never touch her, even though it kills him, because he loves her so much! Emerson, her whole life has been turned upside down. And she knows that there is only one person she can count on, Kanan, her dad’s best friend and the man she is desperately in love with!!! This book has everything, age-gap, angst, heartbreak and of course the HEA we all love!!
