Steven and Komoru have arrived back on Earth. The year’s suspension for Saving Pan was more of a gift from the Federation Council than a punishment. After their disastrous encounter with the pirates, Colonel Howe and Beaver devise a plan to increase the efficiency of the fighting contingent of the ships by sending Steven to Marine Boot camp. They manage to persuade Komoru that it will help keep Steven safe, and from that moment on he is given little choice but to go. Dispirited, Steven finds himself on a gruelling thirteen-week course of basic marine training, with young men half his age. As her pregnancy develops, Komoru becomes a lot less assured and becomes fearful. However, she manages to get a little closure on some of the men in the Japanese intelligence community. Back in Modloch space, the emperor turns on Charlie. In an act of childish spitefulness, Charlie gives Jean the key to beating Darrick in one of their many duels in the Thunderfighters, which in turn seals his fate.
No fighting, no diplomacy, just Steven, Charlie and the gang getting up to stuff and it was strangely entertaining For once Steven is back in the story as a main character rather than an also ran, the rest of the gang are included doing their own thing at times and the Emperor has his moments too Towards the end asteroid farming takes on a whole storyline of itself and at the end you are left with the impression that this story has. Alot more legs to it than we have seen so far
At book number 14 and still finding ways to make it interesting
At book number 14 and Mr. Murison is still finding ways to keep the book interesting, I like the hole aspect of the training and the fact Steven thought it with both the Marines and the Gordon Highlanders
This story of two sentient spaceships choosing two genius humans to bond with is absolutely awesomeness. Of course the sidekick becoming the MC is brilliant.
Someone please put this on the Big Screen or at least the Telly.
