All and all, it's a nice pocket sized version w/ more than a little history to it. When it was published WW I was over and the stock market hadn't yet crashed in 1929. Amazing to think about.

The age needed both Galileo and Descartes, however Galileo's pick and choosing method did not approach Descartes searched for the first causes of nature.
He chose to understand the overall, the whole, he chose to see nature as a complete scheme, whose principles are linked together as are the axioms and theorems of a mathematical system.

I supplemented the assigned readings by going through the books I already possessed by the author, one of which was this collection. Having already read some of the material, I only read the critical apparatus and those selections which had not been assigned.
