JFK – The Conspiracy and Truth Behind the Assassination

Rate this book
The killing of US President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, in November 1963, sent a shockwave around the world. The charismatic young Democrat was seen as a beacon of hope in the West, but his liberal reforming policies had made him many powerful enemies at home.

For sixty years, numerous theories have swirled around this key event in American - and world - history. Yet whatever the conclusions of the official Warren Report - that the President had been assassinated by a lone gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald - many people doubt that to be true. Indeed, President Nixon later admitted on tape that the report was 'a hoax committed on the American people.' John Hughes-Wilson, a former colonel in British Intelligence, has sifted through the millions of words and thousands of pieces of evidence, to put together an intelligence assessment of what really happened that dreadful high noon in Dallas in 1963.John Hughes-Wilson highlights the facts behind why Marilyn Monroe had to be silenced, LBJ's corrupt secrets, the Kennedys' secret Cuban coup plans, how the Mafia manipulated politicians and the CIA, and how the assassination was covered up.

Reading this astounding book, no one can be in any doubt that JFK's death was not at the hands of a lone deranged gunman, but a deadly plot to remove a President who threatened vested interests at home and abroad.

I've read quite a lot on the JFK assassination & this is the first book where all the evidence about the shooting itself & what went on afterwards line up. It's a riveting read as the author takes the reader through the events leading up to Dallas & the aftermath, showing why JFK was killed, how the individual pieces of the plot(s) came together, & how it was covered up afterwards.

I agree with another review I've seen that it would have been nice to have references/footnotes so that the reader could see where each piece of information has come from, but if you are after an easy to follow, coherent explanation for all the events surrounding the assassination, then this is the book to start with.

The assassination of President John F. Kennedy in broad daylight on a Dallas street in 1963 was one of histories greatest murder mysteries. But since, as more people have revealed what they know and with a constant flow of evidence it is now well established what occurred and those who were ultimately responsible. Over the past 60-plus years, thousands of books have been written by researchers revealing more facts and building upon each other to form a clear but complex view. Definitive books such as ‘Not In Your Lifetime: The Assassination of JFK’ by Anthony Summers and ‘JFK and the Unspeakable’ by James W. Douglass reveal the true facts in great substantiated detail. And now ‘JFK: The Conspiracy and Truth behind the Assassination’ by Colonel John Hughes-Wilson provides a more simplified summary of the entire crime. Through a chronological narrative the author draws together the overwhelming evidence of a conspiracy and provides an excellent overview for a reader relatively new to this topic. Although offering great detail, the book has more breadth than the depth offered by those books by Summers and Douglass. The writing style is casual but still provides many shocking revelations and leaves the reader in no doubt about the true facts. There is little left undone in this book, except for the reader to wonder how the public is not more enraged by this murderous conspiratorial coup.

The aphorism at the start of Chapter 29 states; It is wiser to arrive at a theory by way of the evidence rather than the other way round. John Hughes-Wilson uses this to head the chapter focusing on The Warren Commission's work which he contends was, and was always intended to be, a whitewash. This is a little hypocritical by the author because his book is structured, from the very beginning, to be a proof that the assassination of JFK was a conspiracy.
Nevertheless, the evidence and the way it is presented is compelling and I, who always doubted the 'lone gunman' theory anyway, am totally convinced by the end of this book that JFK's fatal wound was caused by a bullet shot from in front of him - probably from behind the 'picket fence' at the back of the 'grassy knoll'. (This terminology now being almost mythical.) Therefore, there was no 'lone gunman' and I was even persuaded that Lee Harvey Oswald was probably nowhere near the Texas Book Depository on that fateful morning.
It's a short and a quick read but even so the wealth of evidence and its repetition did begin to overwhelm and I found myself skim-reading it towards the end .

Excellent

Great read for all those seekers of the obvious truth…LHO was indeed just a patsy, as he so famously said.
