Tell Me No Lies

Rate this book
I used to love working.
There was nothing I enjoyed more than seeing the auto shop I built from the ground up thriving, showing how far I’d managed to come in this brutal world.
Then I hired Piper.
Now she’s everywhere. At the front desk all day and right next door all night, infiltrating my life.
My thoughts.
I can’t deny wanting her, but there’s a line, and my name on the bottom of her paychecks is it. I’m supposed to be a safe haven for the women who work for me. Touching Piper the way I want to isn’t an option.
When we’re forced to play husband and wife, any semblance of control I had concerning her snaps. Having her at my side, helping me save women from men drunk on power, shows me just how fearless Piper is. How willing she is to put herself in danger to save someone who can’t save themselves.
There’s no limit to what I’m willing to do to keep her safe. To make her happy.
To make her mine.
Especially once I find out she’s carrying my baby.

Tell Me No Lies is the second book in the Sinners And Saints series. It is a contemporary, fake fiancé, workplace romance with a blue collar white knight, and some dark content.

Let me just say this first, this book rocks! I can honestly say that there was nothing that I didn’t absolutely love about this story.

When Piper and Tate are near each other, the sparks fly. We met both characters in book one and suspected there were some butterflies happening there, but I had no idea they would be so good together, or have so many personal demons standing in the way of them being together. It was truly heartwarming to see them get their HEA at the end.

The writing, flow, pace, storytelling, characters, storyline, character development, relationship development, and world building are all amazing. I would 100% recommend this book and series and cannot wait for the next book.

heart, heat, and so much more

I loved this story so much, I don’t even have the words. Tate is so strong and soft, sweet and badass. And I want to be Piper. She’s a take no shit, burn it all down, complete rebel. She’s fierce, loving, supportive, and crazy.
Their story had twists and turns, depth and heat. These two powerhouses clash and come together so passionately that the heat practically wafts off the pages.
I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed reading this.

Book two in the Sinners and Saints series. While we suspected sparks in book one “Take Me to Church”, we now have confirmation. Tate is a guy you want in your corner, protective of those he cares about. I love Piper; she is a strong, sarcastic, independent female. She speaks her mind, and I would not want to be on her bad side.

When a mission needs a married couple, Tate and Piper are tasked with the job, will they cross the line in their “fake” marriage?

I love this new series from Ms. Whitaker. It's a little darker than Alaska Security, but it has plenty of suspense, danger, and romance. I love the characters we have met, and I look forward to more from this series.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Tate owns an auto shop and plays in a band called Saints and Sinners. He is an alpha male with a protective nature.
Piper runs the front desk in his auto shop. She is a sassy, independent female that takes no guff.

Tate and Piper met when she was a bartender at the local bar.
Tate and Piper have a slow burning chemistry that igniting, combustible and armor piercing ( bust are fighting it because of their pasts).
They go on a mission as a married couple to rescue 5 women and 2 children from a cult.
Can Tate and Piper complete the mission and have a Happily Ever After?

This book has suspense, danger , intrigue and great characters.

Great Job Janice Whiteaker !!!

4.5⭐ | ✨ I thought I really enjoyed the first book in the series, and then this one said, well hold on a minute…

💭 In this book, Piper and Tate really get a chance to shine, thanks to a plot line that carries over from Book #1. There, we saw how they loved to push each other’s buttons, but here, we get to peel that back. Both have childhood experiences that left a strong mark on who they are, shaping the defenses they’ve built and how they present to the world. I loved that the story doesn’t shy away from that, but leans all the way in. Piper and Tate push each other despite those defenses, truly see each other on a deeper level, and complement one another. Honestly, don’t we all want that?

Fans of morally gray men, stories of healing and growing through trauma, care-taking moments, forced proximity, and found family… this is one you should move to the top of your TBR!

📍While Book #1 (Take Me To Church) isn’t totally necessary, these are quicker reads, so I’d recommend starting there for more backstory and context around their arc.

Long book reviews can sometimes be the bane of our existence. Who wants to read a lengthy review? So, I'll sum my review up here first: Tell Me No Lies is a book that will stay with you LONG after the last page! A DEFINITE must-read. Now, for those of you who want to know WHY I feel that way...read on.

Get ready for an adrenaline rush because Tell Me No Lies by Janice Whiteaker is about to take you on a heart-pounding ride! This book is a rollercoaster of intense action that will make your reader's heart beat faster, with characters that leap off the page and into your soul.

First off, let’s delve into the emotional depth of Piper and Tate. Piper, a force of nature, is not just a heroine; she’s a character you'll find yourself rooting for—sharp, fierce, and ready to fight for those she loves. And Tate? He's not just a boss, but a white knight with a past that’s as complex as it is heartbreaking. The moment these two are forced to play husband and wife, the sparks fly, and the pages practically ignite, drawing you deeper into their emotional journey.

Whiteaker's storytelling is on fire here, blending humor, heart, and high stakes into a narrative that never lets up. From the auto shop to the dangerous missions, they undertake, Piper and Tate’s journey is one of mutual healing and undeniable attraction. Their relationship isn’t just a romance; it’s a partnership forged in the crucible of their shared traumas and the dangers they face together. And trust me, their chemistry? It's explosive, with tension and tenderness in equal measure.

What really sets Tell Me No Lies apart is how Whiteaker seamlessly weaves the romantic suspense with deep emotional threads. Piper and Tate's mission to save women from abusive situations is more than just a plot device; it’s the backbone of their connection and growth. The way they learn to rely on each other, to trust and to love, is beautifully rendered and utterly compelling.

And let’s not forget the steam! The push and pull between Piper and Tate is palpable from their first interaction, building up to moments that will leave you breathless and craving more. Yet, amidst the passion and the action, there’s a deep sense of authenticity and vulnerability in their relationship that grounds the story in a way that’s both relatable and inspiring.

Tell Me No Lies is a powerhouse of a book that will have you hooked from the first page to the last. It’s not just a romance; it’s a story of resilience, courage, and the kind of love that can weather any storm. If you're looking for a read that will make you laugh, cry, and cheer, look no further. Janice Whiteaker has crafted a tale that’s as heartfelt as it is thrilling, and I’m already counting the days until I can dive into her next book. This is a book you won't want to put down, a story that will stay with you long after you've turned the final page.

So, here’s my official verdict: Tell Me No Lies is a must-read, a tour de force of romantic suspense that proves once again why Janice Whiteaker is a master of the genre. Get ready to fall in love with Piper and Tate, and prepare yourself for a story that will stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page. Happy reading, book fam!

Fantastic Romance, Absolutely No Lie!

When Janice Whiteaker introduced us to Piper in Take Me To Church, I knew she was going to be one of my favorite characters ever. She’s sarcastic, independent, and fiercely protective of the ones she loves. And when she paired her with Tate for Tell Me No Lies, Sinners and Saints book 2, I knew their story was going to be explosive. But I was not ready for how much, or how quickly, I would fall absolutely head over heels for Tate and his standoffish, cinnamon roll self.

Whiteaker builds beautifully on the connection she hinted at in TMTC, giving Piper and Tate every opportunity to learn more about each other and themselves, but she definitely doesn’t make it easy for them. The boundaries they've each drawn, the stories and lies they tell themselves, the build-up to their final acceptance of who they are and who they can be—absolutely exceptional. And Whiteaker does it through the perfect blend of banter, heart-to-hearts, and beautifully constructed and expressed inner monologue.

The character development in Tell Me No Lies is superb. Tate and Piper both have dragons to slay, they both have backgrounds they’ve worked hard to escape, and they also both have so much inner strength and determination that you know they’re going to be okay no matter what happens to them. But watching them find and accept their future together is truly wonderful. Whiteaker doesn’t make it too easy on them, though, infusing her talent in the romantic suspense world to elevate the intensity and the reader’s heartbeat more than once.

And talk about elevated heart rates and intensity—Piper and Tate are fire, straight out of the gate. The steam built into their push-and-pull relationship hits early, hits hard, and propels the story and the characters forward. And while some characters need time to show their true selves, Piper comes into every situation like a wrecking ball—fierce and determined, no holds barred. Ever. And I absolutely love her. But even more, I love how much Tate loves her, and how hard he falls when he allows himself to.

Tell Me No Lies is an interconnected standalone in Janice’s Sinners and Saints series, which is also more broadly tied to her Lost Boys series, but can definitely be read as a standalone novel. The plot is fully encapsulated within the novel with a beautiful HEA for Piper and Tate. Readers should just be aware that once they finish this one, they will want to read more. Take Me To Church is a good starting point if a series binge to the beginning of the Lost Boys series is not possible. And the wonderful thing is, book 3 in Sinners and Saints won’t be far behind.

DISCLAIMER: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I absolutely loved this book! I loved everything about this book! I loved Tate, I loved Piper. I loved how they fought with each other, how they couldn’t get enough of each other, and how they looked out for each other. I loved the glimpses we got of Christian and Lydia (from Take Me to Church), Simon and Myra (from the upcoming book, Tear Me to Pieces) as well as the other Lost Boys! (Sinners and Saints is a subseries off of Janice's Lost Boys series. You do not need to read those books to understand what is happening in this book.)

Janice really upped her game with this story!! I am continually impressed with how well she tells each of her stories! I love how she fleshes out her characters, giving us insight into who they are and making us root for their HEA, I love how she lets the characters and their stories determine the level of spice in her books. While most of her books are pretty spicy, some (including this one) are not; but I feel like it was the right amount of spice for Piper and Tate’s story!

Tell Me No Lies is definitely my favorite story from Janice, and I cannot wait for Tear Me to Pieces! Piper and Tate’s “meet cute” happens in Take Me to Church and it is absolutely hysterical! I definitely recommend starting with that book first, if you have not read this series yet!

Thank you Janice and Julie for the advance copy!

No one will ever own Piper.
I won't be able to control her, and I don't want to. If anything, I want to give her more room to be who she is. I want to be the one to maintain the perimeter so no one gets in her way and she can spread her wings.

This is an ARC review!
Tell Me No Lies released May 24th 🖤

Hyper independent and full of rage, Piper was forged by a troubled past. After the events in Take Me To Church, she gets a new job at Tate’s autoshop.
Troubled past is Tate’s middle name. After doing a lot of despicable things, he believes hapiness isn’t in the cards for him.
But a woman with fire in her veins will show him he’s completely wrong.

I could read another 3 full books about Piper and Tate easily!!! This story was so delicious to read!
They promised a lot in the previous book with their deliciously chaotic demeanor, and delivered everything and MORE. ✨
The chemistry between them were bubbling since the beginning, but I loved the development of their bond. Their relationship is so much more than physical, It’s a soul match. 🫶🏻
And in the end they’re just two people afraid of hurt and abandonment.

What I enjoy the most in these MMCs are how they feed the growth of their partners. Christian was like this with Lydia and Tate is even more supportive with Piper - the moments when he teaches her how to do things on her own are very special. ❤️
Tate isn’t afraid of Piper’s independency, in fact he’s truly delighted to have a woman like her by his side (and this man understood that sometimes we just need to be pampered A LOT ✨).

The action moments were absolutely “Piper style”, I loved it! 🤣
Fake marriage? COUNT ME IN! Piper was the best double agent ever, and Tate was the beast all that idiots deserved.

This is the second book in Sinners and Saints series, I recommend you to read them in order.
The next one is about Lydia’s sister and.. IT’S GONNA BE EPIC!
✨ I can’t wait!✨

P.S.: I searched for a bonus epilogue, but couldn’t find it… PLEASE I NEED ANOTHER FIX OF PIPER AND TATE ASAP

Piper and Tate are a perfect example of how love and hate can be so good! They try so hard to hide their feelings through hate, but they just can’t hold back the attraction and desire they feel. Anger and darkness are things they share. It’s what they know, and it's what makes them kindred spirits.

Tate is who he is and is comfortable with his life. He doesn’t believe he deserves more than what he has. Until Piper comes along. She makes him want everything. I absolutely love Tate. He knows he will never understand what it means to be a woman, but he understands how difficult life can be for a woman. Nothing is more appealing than a man who wants an independent woman! And he wants Piper to be all that she is.

Piper is chaotic, loves hot pink, and I freaking adore her! She is a fighter, for herself and anyone she needs to champion. Janice Whiteaker knows how to write strong women, and Piper’s fire has stood out since she appeared in Take Me to Church.

Tate and Piper are perfect for each other. Their love story is physical, emotional, and deep. Together, they learn how to be the partners they need. “Because healthy relationships aren’t one-sided,"  is the quote that sums up the beautiful message of Piper and Tate.

Never underestimate the power of a grilled cheese sandwich. I know I’ll never look at one the same way again. Bring on Sinners and Saints, book 3!

Book two in the interconnected series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. The author offers some content warning at the front of the book, and sensitive readers should take those into consideration.
After meeting Piper in book one of the series, I knew her book would be something else. I was not disappointed. She is absolutely fierce, strong, independent, argumentative, and willing to fight hard for those that she cares about. Tate is cocky, grumpy, serious and an absolute cinnamon roll under his crusty exterior. He falls so hard and fast for Piper and I loved his deeply protective nature. Both Piper and Tate struggle with some baggage from their past that makes them a uniquely perfect fit for each other. Their characters develop and grow throughout the book until they get to a point where they grow together and are ready for a future completing each other.
There is plenty of heat, some suspense, and even a few laughs along the way. These men may do “bad” things, but they are always for the right reasons. I love this series so much!

Tate and Piper

I loved this book. I was drawn in from the beginning and loved the way Piper and Tate’s relationship developed. They were perfect for each other, and understood each other on a level nobody else would. Their broken pieces fit and their trauma came from similar places.

Piper and Tate started out as pseudo enemies because they were both afraid of vocalizing their feelings, but their chemistry was always there. They were like an inferno ready to combust, and they did, more than once.

One of my favorite things about this story was the plot. Piper and Tate’s romance was almost secondary to their mission to save the women from Lydia’s past. I loved how they worked together and relied on each other. Through their cause they were able to overcome the hesitancy they had about forging a relationship and started to take care of each other. Their pasts were both tragic, but I loved the way they healed together.

Great book. It had romance, humor, adventure, and a little suspense. It was a great addition to the series.

Fantastic second book of the series.

Tell Me No Lies, second book of the Sinner and Saints series.

We knew Piper and Tate’s book would be explosive and Janice didn’t let us down with giving us all the fireworks.

Piper was such a huge part of book one with Lydia and Christians story, she was such a strong fiery character she definitely needed her story.

Tate was on the wrong end of Piper from the off, they definitely rubbed each other up the wrong way.

This was a great story for allowing them to realise their feeling but also to work through the pasts that had them both guarding their hearts.

No one messes with who piper cares for, but she’s about to find out Tate is will to do anything to protect what’s his too!

This one gets deep from the off and I loved it.

A fantastic epilogue to finish this story.

Can’t wait to see what’s in store for Myra and Simon.

Oh what deliciousness these two are. We met Piper in the first Saint & Sinners, and the start of the dynamic between her and Tate, the love to argue and rile each other up game. From their very first meetings, fireworks exploded between these two, and the "conversations" between them were both hilarious and ridiculously wrought with tension and underlying lust. Their story is a continuation of this, whilst they both fight their growing feelings, for different but very valid reasons, until neither can deny the reality anymore. They match each others "f'd up" nature, and fill in the areas the other is missing. Piper has a deep need to be independent and fix her problems, so Tate teaches her skills rather than doing them for her. Tate has a trauma respond need to take care of Piper and be the giver, and Piper knows exactly when he needs it most and allows him to take care of her.... but also knows when to push back so they're equals. Whole story is brilliant, from start to finish, they grow together as they confront their pasts to find their future. Plus their "arguments" are just downright hilarious.

Tate was not one of my favorite MMCs from Janice Whiteaker. I love the series this came from and all the stories before. I just felt like Tate took his childhood trauma a little too far and it became annoying. His not letting Piper touch him because it would make him like his dad was a big leap for me.
Also, his freaking out on her non-reaction to being trapped in the laundry room and attacked was weird. First, they were trying to escape with the women and children and he wanted to take the time to talk about her feelings. Second, sadly, that happens to a lot of women. I don't think he should put his expectations on how he thinks she should have reacted on her.
I loved Piper though, and I loved her in the previous book. I love how other characters are still brought into each story. I cried when Piper had Tate's mom walk her down the aisle. I can't wait to read Simon's book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Let me start by saying that I want to be Piper when I grow up. She is one tough cookie who charges in with no regard for her own safety. Back to the story of Piper and Tate. Tate has been fighting his feelings for Piper, not wanting to come across as someone who is taking advantage of his subordinates. Enter Piper, who doesn't care about any of that stuff and who just wants Tate. As much as Tate likes to argue with Piper he loves to take care of her. From painting her boot hot pink to painting her toe nails. Knowing how Tate grew up, at times broke my heart, but seeing how Piper is there to help him through it, just warms my heart. There is still one more book left in Sinners and Saints and I cannot wait to read it.

First, it takes true talent to be this many books in and the stories and writing continue to get better! Kudos to Janice for her incredible way of writing these books!

Tate and Piper could not have been more perfect for each other and I loved their story. Tate has a story we don’t see often in the hero and how it’s used to explain him as an adult is well written. The way he wanted to take care of someone that was so independent but Piper being able to push him when needed in the perfect way gave these two an unique story. Their characters had really great development and chemistry. The story that continues from Saints and Sinners #1 gave us some great suspense, too! I’m loving this series!!

So freaking good!!!! We already knew Piper was kind of a fireball....man I love her. She's independent, snarky, hotheaded and goes all in for the people around her and can turn just about anything into a weapon....even laundry starch 🤣.
And Tate, he's all about protecting and empowering women. He just never expected this one to drive him so crazy he couldn't control himself.
I love how JW brings Tate and Piper together with what seems like completely different backgrounds and yet their hurts are so similar that they get each other like no one else does. They can also put up with each other's hotheaded personality like no one else can. ❤️❤️❤️

I received an ARC and I'm freely reviewing.

4.4 stars!! Oh man, I loved this couple. Tate and Piper are a riot. I struggled at the beginning but I think that was more me than the story. This is book 2, it's a standalone but you should read book 1. Why? Because it's good and also you get more of the backstory. Tate is a great guy, through and through. He is very aware of what people get away with is absolutely determined not to be one of those people. Piper is a stubborn, strong woman and fiesty. Together they are so beautiful, beautifully written, wounded and come together beautifully. Just a top notch book.

I love Janice Whiteaker’s books and her chapter titles are hilarious. This book has us back in Arkansas trying to find ace save 5 women and 2 children from an abusive cult. Tate and Piper go in as husband and wife and Tate is praying Piper doesn’t have another taser. These two have been dancing around each other but their past keeps them apart until the trip. Then their past slaps Tate in the face and they can’t let anything affect their mission. This book is action packed, suspenseful, hilarious and super steamy. Tate is so sweet you’ll want him but beware of Piper!

Knew Tate and Piper were going to be off the charts

This was so dang good. I love a FMC with little bit of bite to her and a MMC who respects her tenacity. This definitely had that. Both characters were from different backgrounds where they didn't want to live the type of lifestyles they'd experienced with their parents and have learned to channel that into who they are today and how they work to help others. I won't go into details since you need to read this. But it was a really solid second installment for this spinoff series from Janice's Lost Boys series.

I've been waiting for Tate and Piper's book and, boy, did Janice Whiteaker deliver! The heat between these two characters is epic and can't be ignored or denied. But, they're neighbors with secrets and dark pasts who work together, so they decide to keep things under wraps--until they simply can't ignore their true feelings any longer. I loved watching how hard Tate fell and how sweet he always was toward Piper. Everyone needs a Tate in their life! And Piper has so much sass and strength which made me love her, too. Great story and highly recommend it!

Another fantastic Janice read. I really enjoyed the characters in this book and holy smokes their chemistry. The fc is a total bad ass. And the mc is too. They just had to check their bad ass at the door. She's a total kick arse and ask questions later. And he's stuck in his childhood trying never to be his dad and let himself down. She's perfect for him. She's total package! She's just what he needs. A fierce independent partner to balance him out. She's truly a heroin in this story! I love a good female bad arse!

Book 2 does not disappoint!

I fell in love with Piper in Lydia's story because of her live out loud attitude, but her sassy mouth and independent mindset does it for Tate! I really enjoyed their steamy chemistry and bickering banter.
Each of these characters (in this series) have compelling and difficult backgrounds, forming them into who they have become, and it is such an addictive read! I ripped through this one, and cannot wait for the next one.

I recommend this author and this series.

Tate is definitely the touch her and die book boyfriend of the year so far. That man is delectable and I didn't think anyone would take Nico's place as my favorite from these boys. I was wrong. I adore this book and I'm just gonna say it. I don't mind a surprise pregnancy trip when the characters are amazing like th ese characters.

I really love Tate. I feel like so far he is the most damaged and the one that has to really fight to let himself break free. I love how Piper takes no crap from anyone. I can see we will be moving into the mountains after this series closes. My one question is, will the final book be in the original Lost Boys as it wouldn't make sense here.

Loved this series.

I loved this series even though I read it out of order. The whole story line carried out through the first two books is so important for people to understand that this still happens in our country. The fact that these couples are so different but yet have so much in common. I would give it 20 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ if I could
