It’s hard to outrun the ghosts of your past when you can talk to the dead...
Leigh Raelyn should be burned at the stake. Not only did she cause the deaths of her family — she’s also a Lunar witch, bonded with the outlawed element, aether. But hiding an illicit gift is almost impossible when you’re next in line for the throne, and her supply of magical suppressants is dwindling.
So, when she discovers a way to surrender her title, Leigh seizes her chance.
Wilder Dunn will do whatever it takes to ascend the ranks of the Borealis Blades — so long as it gives him the power to bring his sister’s killers to their knees. But as the son of a traitor, he is failing to gain favor with the Council. When Wilder agrees to protect the princess ahead of her coronation, he hopes to prove fealty to authority. Until he discovers the real reason for his employment...
With Wilder’s help, Leigh goes in search of her throne-bargaining the truth behind Corona’s centuries-old peace treaties. But as the pair spiral closer to a realm-shattering revelation, only one thing is to fix the world order they need to break it...and possibly, their own hearts too.
RAISE HELL is the first book in the Eleventh Hour series by Brit KS. This fantasy-romance is filled with witches, vampires, ancient laws, tech mixed with magic, and medium-burn lovers.
Brit KS has always been a voracious reader of many books — but all her favorites have kissing in them. Growing up in Laguna Beach, CA, she wrote stories, plays and truly awful poetry that didn’t improve with age. At college the boy next door stole her heart, and in 2021 they tied the knot in England with a ceremony that was equal parts Elfhame and Starfall. Brit currently spends her time in Atlanta, GA, with her husband, their two fur babies, and many, many cups of iced coffee.
Writing 'Raise Hell' has been an exhilarating experience for me, akin to a wild ride. The story initially emerged in fragments and has evolved into a compelling, fast-paced narrative. It centers on two distinct characters from vastly different backgrounds who unite in a thrilling quest to unearth hidden truths while grappling with their growing feelings for each other. The novel is rich with elemental magic and romance in an urban gothic fantasy world. What makes it truly stand out are the characters, each beautifully imperfect, navigating their personal struggles and evolving one page at a time. The ending, which I am particularly fond of, sets the stage for even more exciting developments in this story that I am eager to continue writing.
First off, this book wasn't like anything else I've read! The world that Brit built was incredible!
Second, these characters! I loved so many qualities about them!
Third, HOLY SHIT! I can't say anything without spoiling it, but I can tell you to go read this book if you love... ♡witches ♡Bodyguards ♡secrets ♡Amazing plot with romance tied in ♡Twists and turns
I seriously hope she's almost done with book 2 because I already can't wait to read it!
I read this originally in physical form, but I just finished listening to it in audio, and it was even better the second time around! I can't wait for the next book.
Overall ☆☆☆☆☆/5 Spice ★★★/5 Slow burn, baby! Audio ☆☆☆☆☆/5 Narrators did a fantastic job!
This desperately needed another round of editing. Between misusing pronouns on a character, incorrect and switching tenses, and poor sentence structure overall I found myself getting completely taken out of the story more than once.
I also felt like these characters didn’t have personalities. They had pasts and motivations, but they were completely one dimensional. A traumatic past isn’t a personality trait. 😬
The set up was interesting but I really have no interest struggling to finish it.
📍”I was six feet under when you met me, barely breathing, but you made me want to live again.”
What a debut *stands to clap*
Full disclaimer I know Brit from bookstagram. And yes, she’s as amazing as her page is. But this isn’t a review about Brit. It’s a review about the book Brit wrote. And how amazing she is or isn’t, means nothing. The truth is she might have written a book that wasn’t for me and that wouldn’t make her any less amazing. But lucky me, she wrote one that almost seemed MADE just FOR ME. 🥹
See, I know Leigh and Wilder. I know them. I feel them. I see them. The unexpected pair took my heart by storm and I was utterly consumed with them. I lived every moment with them. Every page. Every line. They felt so real that now I’m here empty, having reached the end of Raise Hell and thinking I want them to come back and occupy all the spaces they left behind.
But Brit didn’t only mold these characters to perfection. She also crafted an urban gothic fantasy world that I want to live in and a plot I wish I had nailed, yet didn’t. Scratch that. I don’t wish to have known. Being caught by surprise at the end of this book was magnificent.
If you’re looking to read something by a new author in 2024 let it be Brit KS. 🖤
“I was six feet under when you met me, barely breathing but you made me want to live again. You reminded me how to fight and speak up rather than run.”
Let me tell you the vibes were indeed VIBING.
From the first sentence until that last page ache. I practically flew through this.
Did you know Leigh & Wilder now owns a piece of my heart?!
• Royal x Bodyguard romance • Urban gothic setting • Forced proximity • Elemental magic • Witches & Vampires • Got a secret or two can you keep it • Traumatic pasts • Addicting banter • Found friendships • Political intrigue • Wall leans and forehead kisses • He will kneel for her 👀 • Spice that has you melting
I absolutely fell head over heels with the chemistry between these two. Plus we all know I am a sucker for the bodyguard trope. Really do be wild for Wilder 🥵 but when that vulnerability hits. You guys I just want to hold him. As for my girl Leigh? She is the moment and her arc is turning out to be something special! Can I be her bestie too?
This was truly such an incredible start to what can only be assumed as a series that will cement its place as one of my all time faves.
“You’ve kept me safe. So, if I say you didn’t fail me, I expect you to believe me. And, if I say shut up and kiss me, I expect you to do that.”
When is the last time you stayed up all night reading a book?
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Raise Hell by Brit KS and when I tell you I could not put this book down.
Raise Hell is an urban fantasy with witches and vampires and it was fun, refreshing, kept me hooked the entire time, and did I mention the TENSION between our two main characters?
When I tell you that Brit edged the hell out of me. This is a medium burn, but each scene you’re left wanting more in the best of ways. And the BANTER!
Raise Hell has characters you’ll love, tension and heat that you’ll feel, and it’s a book you need in your hands right now.
I don’t usually give stars, but FIVE STARS!! Pre-Order this book right now.
This book gripped my heart from the very first page, refusing to let go until the final word.
I couldn't stop reading the moment I started and my gods, I suspected every character because I knew they were hiding something fishy. The twists and turns kept me guessing until the very end.
Leigh and Wilder, the main characters, felt incredibly real. Their tragic pasts tugged at my heart, and I was on the verge of tears whenever their past resurfaced. Imperfectly perfect together, Leigh and Wilder danced along the delicate line between duty and desire.
The banter between Leigh and Wilder had me laughing out loud. Their chemistry was electric, and their interactions were a delightful mix of wit and tension. The slow-burn romance was forbidden, crossing off limits vibes.
It took me a little while to fully grasp the intricacies of the world-building. But once I did, I was immersed in this richly crafted universe.
As the story reached toward its end, my heart raced and I was scared if I was gonna have a stroke and I was literally swearing what the fuck is happening??.
Thankfully, the ending is satisfying, but it also hinted at something more dangerous and terrifying on the horizon.
“Everyone has secrets…Tell me yours, and I’ll tell you mine.”
What I knew going into this book: 🧙♀️ There are witches 💂 The female lead is a royal, and the male lead is her bodyguard 🔥 Spicy romance
What I know after finishing this book: 😍 Wilder is seriously broody, and he’s mine. Leigh and everyone else can back off because I call dibs 🙋♀️ Leigh sometimes gives off Aelin vibes (ref: Throne of Glass), which means she thinks she’s always right and everyone needs to fall in line 🧛 The vampires in this book are the true heroes. Imma need a lot more Vane action in book 2 🏛️ I love all the dynamics around socioeconomic classes and inter-species relations 🙏 Jax is a saint and deserves an award for best wingman
This was a fantastic debut novel! The paranormal world is very unique - I’m not sure I’ve read one with a similar magic system, and it has a mind-blowing plot twist that will leave you gaping. If you enjoy plot-driven witchy romances with a feisty female lead who doesn’t hesitate to take charge, this is your book. Now I’m counting down the days for book 2!
“The longer I remain in Borealis, the more of a liability I am. I must leave town before ever sitting on the throne.”
When Leigh Raelyn’s father and brother have been mürdered because of her, will she accept her responsibility and fall in line as next heir of the throne or will she run away keeping the secrets her gift?
This book had a sprinkling of all my favorite things and not once was I ever bored. The world building was phenomenal and I loved the fact that there’s a pronunciation and magic guide. Leigh’s struggle throughout the book had my heart hurting, but her growth was amazing. Wilder, ugh Wilder. That man is infuriating and stubborn and I cannot begin to comprehend how he’s still functioning after everything he’s been through. The two of them are just 😫
What you’ll find: ✨Vampires, Witches and Demons 🩸Royal politics ✨Urban magical setting 🩸Princess/Bodyguard ✨Forced Proximity 🩸Generational trauma ✨SPICE 🥵😮💨
“I bite my lip to hold back a loud sound. “Don’t do that,” he croons. “I like hearing how my touch affects you.”
In a modern world inhabited by witches and vampires, a princess and her guard uncover a realm-shattering secret that could undo centuries of peace between their society. But sometimes, to keep the peace, you must raise hell. This is the first book in The Eleventh Hour series, a fantasy romance filled with ancient laws, tech mixed with magic, and medium-burn lovers.
I loved this book so much! It’s one of those books I carry everywhere with me just hoping to get a chance to read whenever I can. It has elements of urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and mystery/thriller all in one. It’s giving me major Crescent City vibes!
Wilder is definitely being added to the book boyfriend list. I enjoyed Leigh’s storyline and watching her come in to her own and accept her power and fate. I appreciate the relationship between Wilder & Leigh was realistic in its development. The book ends mostly wrapped up, but with a hint of a cliffhanger to make me want the second book as soon as possible!
Thank you to the author and MTMC tours for providing me a copy of this book. This review is voluntary, and all opinions expressed are my own.
Raise Hell gave me early 2000s CW vibes. Super attractive leads, drama up the wazoo, intense magical world, tons of twists and turns, and—a cliffhanger season ender.
The magical world that Brit created is so immersive. Different witchy classes, vampires, political intrigue, and a mystery to unfold. And I definitely struggled with some of that in the beginning. I’m learning that my brain just can’t handle that much world building. Must be the millennial-undiagnosed-ADHD in me. Do I wish I could visit and hang out with Leigh? Of course. Do I remember the names of the different witches? Of course not.
Leigh and Wilder had a lot of chemistry, although there was so much push and pull. I wish there could have been a bit more relationship development. Their banter was fun and entertaining, but I missed the deep, emotional connection. But the bodyguard trope hits so good, so I was still hooked.
Overall, Raise Hell was an enjoyable read, especially for a debut author. It just missed a few marks for me.
This is prob more of a 2.5* rating but not enough for me to bump it to a 3.
The author had a lot of great plot points and vision. The execution was confusing and almost too much going on. We had too many people killed in a short time that mattered. I couldn’t remember who was who and who did what.
There also was no real explanation why Leigh’s mom didn’t like her? Wilder and Leigh were almost too much of the same person. They both had a sibling die and then daddy issues.
It also felt like a lot of scenes were told rather than shown. The world wasn’t explained well, and I feel like I didn’t know the difference of some things until the end. There are multiple species of witches but we only saw 2 really.
My last complaint was just Wilder and Leigh and their relationship. He didn’t want to lose his job but basically was in love with her instantly. They didn’t have much chemistry or banter.
Yeah... no.. I just wasn't invested at all. It was all too easy or simplistic, and the characters felt very bland. The plot was kinda okay, and I did not entirely hate it, but is wasn't as epic as I hoped it would be.
This is the second time I've tried to read RAISE HELL and I did get further this time but it's so much information in just the first two chapters, way too many characters getting introduced, and I'm just not feeling it. The writing isn't bad but it's not working for me.
Thank you for the opportunity to receive and read your ARC!
I am so impressed and amazed that this is your debut book. Congratulations! I am so happy I got to read this and am looking forward to book two!
This book has witches of all kinds, vampires, a royal family, and political parties, fighting for power and equal rights. This is an urban fantasy and the Crown with a twist.
These poor characters must have whiplash from all the backstabbing and political agendas at play.
"The dead have no reason to lie..."
I loved this book, I could not put it down. It was just a vibe, and I wanted to stay in it. I needed to know how this was all going to end. I just wanted to see a win for these characters.
"You make it hard to breathe,"
This story is about a princess, Leigh Amaris Raelyn, trying to survive in society. Leigh is coping by using suppressant drugs to help hide her magical gifts from her family and to help manage day to day. Leigh has some secrets that unfold and she learns secrets about the Royal family. I feel like Leigh was always in the wrong place at the wrong time. But one things for sure, it got much sweeter when Wilder came around 🥰.
"I'm a sucker for a hero."
Wilder Dunn, I just love him. He's a part of the Blades (a police force), and he wants to move up in the ranks separating himself from his father's mistakes. Wilder ends up being a guard for Leigh and helping her discover the Royal Secrets. Let the sexual tension begin!
"Leigh may be a princess, but right now, she answers to me." ^^^ More please. In book two, can we have more of this dominating Wilder 🥵
My favorite part had to be in the Little Death club!!! Screaming!!! It was full of tension and spice. I want more of these vampires, too, please!
When I think of urban fantasy, this is what I want! And a debut, at that!
I’m a sucker for political intrigue and this has it in spades. I love all the family drama and secrets..the tension between a rebellious princess and her guard. They may be from different worlds in their society, but somehow their connection is inevitable.
If you’re looking for something fast paced and action packed, but with a delicious slow burn romance..this is the one. The cliffhanger was intriguingly ominous and I will be picking up book two immediately!
What I don’t like: ⛦ Lack of “show don’t tell” ⛦ Bland characters ⛦ The most boring “sexual tension” ⛦ Lack of magic for something supposedly very magic-based

The Details:
My first issue is that Leigh is 19 years old. I was even more upset with the fact that the book doesn’t even tell us this until like halfway through. Now if I had known this, I likely never would have read the book. I am not a big fan of reading about barely legal people and I’m especially not a fan of reading smut about them.
Now let’s talk about the smut.
The reason I feel this way is because this scene suffered from a disease that plagued the entire book: Show Don’t Tell.
We are dragged through plot points and discoveries rather than finding them on our own or being made to feel them. The world was very one-dimensional for me because the author just doesn’t describe things in detail. There’s a scene where the characters are at a crowded festival and the author describes the sequence of events to us, but that’s it. Yes, the street is full of people, but tell me what it feels like so I can be there too. Describe the sounds and the smells and the crushing weight of the bodies all around. Just saying “the place was packed” and moving on, isn’t enough for me. But that’s ALL you get in this book.
Oh, you want more examples of this? Don’t worry. I have them.
Still not convinced? How about this:
Leigh spends time in a psychiatric facility because she witnesses (and blames herself for) her father and brother’s deaths. She only mentions the facility a few times in the beginning and for the rest of the book, it’s like it never happened. We are told—ad nauseam—that Leigh is traumatized by her past. But we don’t SEE it. Her trauma is stated over and over again but never felt.
Not enough for you? Don’t worry, I have more examples still.
We get nothing suggesting that Leigh isn’t like the others except for the fact that she isn’t an outright bully. She’s not kind in any way toward Nebula, but since she’s not hurdling rocks at them that must mean she’s fine, right?
Next up on my shit list: the characters.
The main characters are the only ones who even seem to have any agency or emotions—and even that is me being generous. The side characters in this novel are basically meaningless plot points to disappear and reappear as the plot demands. They are not people with their own motivations and thoughts and feelings. They are brought to the forefront of the story to service a purpose and then they conveniently disappear until needed again. Zev? Only a means to get Leigh and Wilder into the Nest. Gianna? Only briefly mentioned a handful of the times and most of the time Leigh is completely disinterested in what’s going on with her. Vane is supposed to be this cool, powerful, badass vampire, but he offers literally nothing as a character. He is a means to an end. You could plug any random character in any of their spots and the story wouldn’t change much. We aren’t meant to care about them and so I just didn’t.
Now onto our main characters. Leigh’s entire adventure here is to “learn to trust herself”, which she says Wilder apparently helped her do….except he literally tells her she’s wrong at every corner. And the funny thing is: he’s right. Leigh bumbles through this book making mistake after mistake and she doesn’t really even outwardly do anything to correct them.
And I know I shouldn’t think this about the protagonist, There’s nothing heavy about the decisions and choices being made because they literally don’t fucking matter. It’s like playing a choice-based video game only to realize that everyone gets the same ending anyway. This story has such a bland, boring ending too that it makes me wonder what this whole journey was even about and why it mattered. Also, the cliff hanger is literally one sentence and it’s so stupid and vague that I actually laughed at the absurdity of it.
Now, let’s talk plot.
There are so many scenes where I was just sitting there like “did this need to be in here? What does this offer the story?” We could have removed that entire scene from the book and not a damn thing in the plot would have changed. It didn’t benefit the characters, the readers, or the plot. It seemed like this book was just a collection of random, clunky scenes the author wanted to write strung together haphazardly rather than a coherent story with a flowing plot.
Also, we hear so much about this Lunar Witch stuff, but we only get the barest glimpse of what it really is throughout the story. I understand the main character fights it for so long, but there’s so much you can show within that struggle that isn’t there in this novel. Leigh pops a pill and the ghosts go away. That’s all—just another convenient plot point to be there and taken away when no longer needed. Oh, because the plot demands it. Right. Speaking of magic in general, for a book following a society of witches, we rarely see it in action. If you're expecting a lush magical world with big magical fights, go pick up another book.
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
Final Conclusions:
⛦ This read like a debut YA novel. Ultimately it’s a no from me, dawg. As you have probably surmised, I will not be reading the second book.
What a fantastic debut novel! ✨ Raise Hell by Britt KS is an urban fantasy romance packed with witches, vampires, and endless twists and turns!
I listened to the ALC thanks to MTMC Book Tours, and I was absolutely hooked! 🎧💖 The worldbuilding and magical system felt so original and clever!
Leigh started as a reluctant heroine but truly blossomed as the story unfolded, and I was here for every second of it! I’m already excited to dive into book two and uncover more about her powers.
Wilder, the MMC, is charming and intense—a perfect match for Leigh. Both characters carry so many ghosts from their pasts, and I can’t wait to see Wilder gain confidence in himself next time because he’s *honestly the best!*🔥❤️
And that final plot twist? I had my suspicions, but it was still executed flawlessly!
We got royalty, body guard, urban fantasy, political intrigue, vampires, forced prox (my fav!!), lots of amazing side characters, witches and magic that is so interesting, CRIME, demons, so many twists and turns, a sexy tattooed emo daddy, ETC ETC.
Add this to your TBR people!!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I thought the world building was done so well there at the beginning. I was taking notes trying to remember the different factions lol. I LOVE political fantasy books so this was right up my alley. Very Bridge Kingdom vibes with more MAGIC.✨
The ending really got me!! I didn’t see that twist coming at all, but it didn’t feel unbelievable either!! I can’t wait for book 2!!
So proud of you Brit!!!!!!! This was AMAZING!!!! So unique and truly a fun read!!
I want to extend my gratitude to Brit KS for granting me early access to her unpublished book in exchange for an honest review. Transparency is key, and I'm committed to delivering my unvarnished opinion here. Potential readers deserve a full spectrum of critiques rather than a sea of glowing 5-star ARC reviews.🤞🏼
Let's start with the surprise: an extensive pronunciation guide for the character names. While ACOTAR and TOG Series managed without such a roster, this debut novel bombards us with names straight out of an AI name generator. Can we bring back normal names, please? 🧐
Next up, the world-building. It's a tangled web, and I'm not sure if editors were involved, but if they were, it's a tangled mess. Every sentence in the initial chapters introduces a new, confusing element, making it tempting to skip ahead. The plot races from page one, feeling more like a summary than a fully-fleshed narrative. Authors, take note: readers don't possess the same omniscience as the writers.
There are some redeeming qualities—the dual POV is a welcome touch, and the cover illustration is stunning🌟. However, the sheer volume of information overload and breakneck pacing detracts from the overall experience. This book has the potential to shine with some judicious editing, but in its current state, I can't in good conscience recommend it. Two stars for the glimmer of promise it holds post-editing. 🙏🏼
I was chosen as an ARC reader for this story. What an great debut novel! The mapping of all the politics was well done. I really enjoyed getting to know the different characters and pieces of this world. I am very much looking forward to learning more about each type of magic hopefully in the next book!
The plots really interesting but the writing is kind of flat. I’m not getting any suspense, tension, or any feelings at all really. Instead of being in the scene with the characters I feel like it’s just chunks of small scenes slammed together that don’t hold any meaning. Really bummed out since I wanted to like this so badly.
An excellent beginning to a thrilling new contemporary romantasy series.
Crown princess Leigh Raelyn may be next in line for the throne but it's far from what she wants. She's only up for the job because her Father and brother were brutally murdered in an event that has left her forever changed. Having emerged as a lunar witch, Leigh must now suppress her magic or risk being found out and carted away to an asylum... or worse. But Leigh has a plan, she'll give up her throne and leave before anyone can find out what she is. But getting her grandmother, the queen, to accept her abdication may be more complicated than she hoped.
Meanwhile, Wilder Dunn will stop at nothing to avenge the death of his twin after his Father's political entanglements lead to her murder. But it's not easy to climb the ladder when everyone only sees you as the son of the man who murdered the President. But when a job protecting the princess becomes available, Wilder takes it for the chance that it is, not realizing that guarding Leigh won't be the simple babysitting job he thought he had signed up for.
Add in a couple of underground political organizations, some missing letters that could prove disastrous if the truth ever got out, and the heated looks the two find it impossible not to share and this assignment could prove disastrous for them both.
What a ride! This was such a fantastic debut from Brit KS! I absolutely adored Wilder and Leigh. This story had me in a chokehold until the very end. Every time I thought I had things completely figured out, something new would surprise me. But, if I might toot my own horn for a minute, I TOTALLY CALLED IT. (Chapter 49. Once you know, you'll know.)
Brit did a fantastic job of balancing multiple plot threads and weaving them together in a way that not only enhanced the story but also made sense. Nothing ever felt out of place or totally out of left field. She also did a great job of showing how even in a society of dualities, not everything is as black and white as it would appear. She gave us lots of complex characters with their own motivations and reasonings behind their actions. I'm very intrigued to see where this series goes from here.
You definitely won't want to miss this one folks. It's one hell of a ride!
A reluctant Royal with a deadly secret desperate to disappear. A determined soldier shouldering the shame of his traitor father. Both reeling from tragedy. They must navigate their forbidden attraction to work together to uncover the secrets plaguing their society and to address the ongoing political unrest. Will they save each other or doom themselves?
I was immediately hooked by these characters and story and was blown away by the reveals, tension, and political intrigue.
I adore Leigh. She’s grown up under much scrutiny and privilege yet never believed herself better than anyone else. Despite being surrounded by people, she’s felt alone, especially after tragically losing her father and brother. As she slowly discovers secrets that can upend the very fabric of society, she’s willing to do what’s right, no matter the cost. I loved watching her maturation from reluctant royal to figuring out what she wants and embracing her responsibilities.
Wilder is our stubborn and serious MMC with something to prove and he undergoes so much growth in his beliefs and understanding of the painful betrayal by his family and his place in society.
In Raise Hell, Brit KS skillfully paints a vibrant world full of conspiracies, dangerous secrets, unique magic, and angsty romance. I love the Crescent City meets The Crown vibes. Brit KS has officially entered the chat, putting forth a phenomenal and exhilarating contemporary paranormal fantasy debut. I cannot wait for the next installment in this incredible series!
Huge thanks to Brit KS for the ARC opportunity! This is my honest and voluntary review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
For a baby author she did a very good job. Because it’s her first book i think 4 ⭐️ is well deserved , I’m not quite there yet for a 5⭐️ but It was entertaining, fast paced, and a very good first book in a new complex world with good plot twists.
It was however a little wordy for me , with a lot of dumped information about the world building, class society, royal , magical power , names , secret societies.. and I struggled until the 20% mark to really got into it. (But I think the same with SJM .. 😉)
The plot is central with an insta lust - slow burn romance in the back seat.. I thought it would have been the other way around, but at some point the plot took the lead. Unfortunately, being a romance type of girl , the plot always needs to really hold my interest if it has more screen time than the romance, it wasn’t the case here .. but it’s just my personal preference.
We meet a lot of secondary characters without really getting to know them yet, but I would want to say that I think their time will come .. and i will be here !
The spice was light NA, very few scenes with a bit of detail, still well written.
📖 Raise Hell by Brit KS Star Rating: 4/5 ★★★★ Spice Rating: 1/5 🌶️ Spice Frequency: 1/5 🔥 POV: Dual/1st Couple: Leigh Raelyn x Wilder Dunn available on KU ✅
• Royal x Bodyguard Romance • shared trauma • elemental magic • vampires & witches • f0rced proximity • tension & angst • political intrigue • urban world
Wow, what a debut 😍 Raise Hell by Brit KS is an exciting and magical romantasy with all your fave spooky season elements like a fully witchy inspired political system and characters, vampires, and more. I absolutely LOVED the world building in this book and enjoyed the entire plot, as it kept me intrigued and interested the entire time. There were so many twists and turns and I connected so much with the FMC, Leigh.
Leigh was such a fun character, having so much background regarding her family struggles and loss. Plus, her secret identity 🫣 I adored her storyline and her growth throughout the book, especially her full transformation at the end. The MMC, Wilder, was one of those “rough around the edges” type of guys who struggled to see past his own guilt for the longest time. But once he opened up and really began trusting in Leigh? My whole heart exploded.
There were several scenes that stuck out to me but nothing hit as hard as Leigh and Wilder in the vampire club….IYKYK. There’s just something about a book that has vampire-induced smexy times that GETS ME GOING. While there’s not much spice in this, the storyline kept me flipping the pages.
Overall, stunning debut by Brit. Will def be reading the sequel!! 😍
Raise Hell had all the spooky vibes for this Halloween season. Leigh Raelyn is the cause of the deaths in her family. She happens to also be a Luna Witch that controls the element, aether. Her gift is hidden, but it's harder to hide when she's next in throne and her magical suppressants are getting low. When she finds a way to surrender her title, Leigh takes it. Wilder Dunn will do anything to get into the higher ranks of the Borealis Blades so that he can bring justice to his sister's death. When Wilder agrees to protect the princess before the coronation, he soon later finds out the real reason he was hired.
The audiobook was fantastic! Performed in duet narration by Walker Williams and MK Blackwood. Both narrators are new to me and I loved their voices. They were both perfect as Leigh and Wilder. Walker's sexy voice brought out Wilder's confidence and he exuded Wilder's strong willed attitude. He portrayed Wilder's determination to get justice for his sister's death as well as his overprotectiveness for Leigh. MK had a refined and elegant voice. She portrayed Leigh's somber mood in the beginning and as the story progressed she portrayed Leigh's bravery and willingness to find out the truth. Leigh seeking out the truth to protect her people was commendable. Together Walker and MK had captivating performances that kept me enthralled the entire time.
Thank you to the author and mtmc tours for the opportunity to listen and review!
A fast-paced urban romantasy packed full of witches, vampires, friendship, loyalty, political unrest, conspiracies, and familial vs societal expectations. With dual POVs between a princess and solider, Brit Ks takes you on a slow burn but steamy journey of forbidden love, forced proximity, grief and trust.
Leigh and Wilder have great tension and chemistry through the reluctant bodyguard trope and a vast array of secrets. Their relationship felt a little surface level simply due to the amount of plot and maneuvering going on but the characters are believable with the effort the author put into their backstories.
I could've used a little more in terms of explanations for the magic and worldbuilding for this to really hit home for me. At the beginning, the two groups of witches: Nebula and Epsilon threw me for a little loop until more of the society's past was discussed. It all felt too complicated, and other times, not explained enough.
I look forward to book two after the cliffhanger!
CW: loss of loved one, mentions of substance abuse, murder, violence, sexual content, classism, war
