Disclaimer: This review is going to be a long one, continued all the way to the comments because I couldn’t genuinely cut out anything. I’m not sure if anyone is going to read until the very end, but I’ll be glad even if one person does. This one is more like a thought-sharing post than a typical book review post, but I’ve just written everything as and how it came to me: raw and unfiltered! So here it is!
Alright, let me begin this by asking you a question! Has there ever been a moment in your life when you felt as though the book chose you rather than you choosing the book?
You know that feeling, where it feels as though destiny has played its card and offered you something so precious at your disposal that you personally couldn’t even comprehend?
Well, it happened to me with this book, and I can easily say that THIS BOOK CHOSE ME!
When I finished reading “Why We Are Who We Are”, I actually understood quite literally “Why I Am Who I Am!” I know I am praising this book beyond the usual, but honestly, it deserves every bit of it.
As I may have said before, I am a strong believer in Spirituality and I have read, heard, and implemented a lot of it in my life as well. It has always been a wonderful and growing experience when you get to know yourself better, when you connect with yourself better, or when you understand and comprehend things better. Yet, there are certain areas in everyone’s life where they lack a bit more and need tremendous improvement in those areas. These trigger zones are such that, no matter how hard you try, you cannot seem to overcome them. For instance, if the area you need improvement in is anger, there might be times when you are aware you shouldn’t be doing it and yet you see yourself doing exactly that, which is being angry! It just seems out of your control, and then follows the guilt and regret. It is then that this book, “Why We Are Who We Are”, comes into the picture!
The author tells us the exact reasons why we behave or respond a certain way. She tells us why it seems so difficult to get a hold of it. She tells us why these tendencies overpower us and why they differ from person to person. Why are some individuals so calm and wise, while others are restless and foolish? Why are some individuals extremely emotional, while others are brimming with practicality? Why do some hold a grudge for a long time while others can let go of it easily? Why are some extremely loved and praised even if seemingly they don’t deserve it, while others are rejected of love and praise despite their best efforts?
You’ll get all these answers when you read this book, and there will be parts that will put you in a state of wonder.
To summarize it, everything that happens, happens for a reason. It is a result of your past deeds and karmas that resurface in the form of situations and tendencies in your present birth. Everything is just pure “cause and effect”. You are a soul that falls into a particular category because of what you’ve accumulated through all of these lives; so you could be an emotional soul, a wise soul, a struggling soul, a lost soul, a creative soul, and so on and so forth. It all depends! And your responses will depend on what kind of soul personality you possess—good and bad! It is in this scenario that the author introduces us to “Karmic Mandates,” which are things we should do if we want to go beyond our soul personality and connect to our higher self.
I personally found this part of the book so beautiful and practical that it cleared a lot of my messed-up concepts, opened up visions, and laid out a path as to what I should be doing now and connect with myself, my higher self! I have devoured this book, and I urge you to do so as well (if it interests you, of course). This book is one of those that has and will always stay with me, and I can actually see visible improvements in my life due to my changed thought process in certain areas after reading it.
This book is a true gem, and I cannot thank the author enough for writing it and sharing it with the world.
