I’m trying to lead a life with a job that makes having a life near impossible.

Griffin Martin's the biggest jerk in the Emergency Department and I’m stuck working with him.
No one else will have him. Behind his back, we call him Doctor Delight, and that’s not a compliment.
I can’t lose this job, but he tries my patience and finally when I’d had enough, and I stood up to him.
In front of everyone—the Chief Physician, the Nurse in Charge, and patients everywhere.
What does he dare to do?
He doesn’t fire me. Instead, he pursues me.
I don’t have time for this.
I’ve got bills to pay, my brother needs my help, and my world is coming apart.
I don’t need a bossy billionaire doctor to fix my problems.
But his Greek godlike looks, the sweet man underneath, and his persistence just might pay off.

This is the first in the Mercy Emergency Medical series. Characters from the Men of Mercy series are bound to show up. And Griffin and Tori promise to have you tearing your hair out one minute and reaching for a very cold glass of water.

Good read, but suggestions for medical fiction.

I will preface this by saying that as a nurse who is currently in the ED and switching over to ICU, I knew there would be slightly cringe-worthy parts that I was going to have to breathe through and move on from. However, compared to most medical fiction, this was much better and at least generally true-ish in terms of the actual medicine.

For future medical romance books, just to help with accuracy and cohesion:
- The use of “thready” in reference to HR was too much and the “thready” BP wasn’t accurate.
- While emergency procedures *may* be done at the bedside, never will you ever perform anything invasive such as the sheer amount of C-sections this unqualified individual is constantly doing, considering they’re such a big hospital and will clearly have OB on site. Not only that, but the cringe-worthiness of surgery outside an OR? YUCK! I say this having worked in surgery myself and my significant other performs trauma surgeries on a daily basis. Trust me, you don’t want anyone cutting into you outside an OR and neither does the hospital because that’s a major liability.
- Nurses aren’t specific to a provider in hospitals.
- If meds are going to be given, please check the route a med is given, know why it’s given, and also if putting multiple meds together, double check they’re compatible for one IV. For example, why are we giving salmeterol IV? That’s strictly inhaled only. And why are we giving it for myocarditis? It works to prevent bronchospasms in the lungs (I.e., used for asthma, COPD, chronic bronchitis, etc.).
- Since we’re just up and delivering babies without ever checking a fetal HR monitor or anything, it’s important to note that vertical C-section incisions (the repeated “sternum to pubic bone” that was written) is widely frowned upon and rarely if ever done. It’s supracervical (a horizontal line across the lower abdomen) because it causes less damage to the mother’s abdominal muscles and allows for better healing because you’re cutting with the muscle rather than through the middle of it.
- Not many people know this, but every single newborn has a murmur. Unless they have a previously identified anomaly or a life-threatening congenital heart defect, they will never be brought into heart surgery immediately after birth. The reason is because there are 4 main “defects” that allow for the fetus to get oxygenated blood while developing without having to use their lungs to breathe (since they don’t need to), so these “defects” help bypass the lungs but still ensure oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. Each of those take different amounts of time to close after birth, but it’s safe to say that at minimum, they’ll have a murmur for roughly a week.
- If writing about the ED, the paramedics always call ahead of time to give report. At my ED, the phone we receive patients through uses the Bat Signal music, which always makes me chuckle. But we get report, pull up the patient’s chart, and assign them to a room. That’s it until paramedics arrive. But no matter what, we already know what we’re getting.
- Also, written records really aren’t a thing anymore. For such a large and renowned hospital, the fact they constantly had paper everything was frustrating.
- Why are we assuming and giving diagnoses and treatments without tests? The amount of fractures that were just assumed without XR. And even more so, I was shouting when they were just giving electrolytes for a patient. DID THEY EVER DRAW A LAB?! No. Because it was 2.5 seconds after coming through the ambulance bay. This one really got me, too, because giving IV electrolytes can kill, real fast, if you’re just randomly giving them. Why are people having heart attacks without ECG and cardiac enzyme confirmation?
- Lastly, because I do know this was a job hazard read for me, yes, we do have busy days. My last shit seemed to throw 4 of each for all of the bad diagnoses you can think of plus a patient didn’t make it by the time we got them and this was in addition to your standard sniffles, belly pain, and fractures, but it is NEVER as obnoxiously chaotic as the nonstop high-acuity patients were in this book. Again, there are some days like that, but it is never every single day. Not only that, but there’s some downtime in between getting labs and other tests back (if they would ever do them first before diagnosing & treating).

I don’t want to completely nitpick. The empathy and compassion Tori has for her patients is fantastic. The middle school behavior is unfortunately ever-present in certain departments and teams. There are definitely residents who try to push the blame on nurses or others they see as “under” them because they’re all trying to kiss a**. The relationship they have is good. I feel like it’s a smooth progression, which is great!

Dr. Griffin Martin was an excellent ER doctor, but his treatment of his nurses needs some social skills. Tori is a star nurse working as hard as 3 nurses. Griffin finds Tori's skills exceptional but other nurses are jealous. Griffin tries to get Tori to go to dinner with him, but doctors and nurses are not supposed to date. Tori has a brother Charlie in a medical facility and her mom also needing Tori's care. She is on overload. Griffin comes from a wealthy family whose brothers are more accomplished than him and make him their target for criticism. Maybe Griffin and Tori can find a way to help each other and their families find peace and love within each of their family units. Doctor Delight Bonus Chapter is 18 months later--- Charlie is doing well at Cavendish is offered when finished---Dr. Simon Wilde and Jane work at Cavendish and get engaged... Griffin and Tori plan a wedding in Rome next April .

This was my first title written by this author. thoroughly enjoyed the overall storyline and premise. The characters were very likeable and I enjoyed the fact that it wasn’t an insta-lust type book. I really enjoyed reading about the experiences and what goes on in an emergency room. You can tell the author had gained knowledge of of can occur. At the bottom of this review, I mention what made me give this story 4 stars instead of 5.

Victoria, aka Tori, is a hard working nurse in the emergency department at Mercy Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. She shows grit and it is obvious she puts others needs before her own. That’s also made clear in the way she cares and helps with members of her family’s needs as well. She is somewhat unaware of her beauty inside and out due to the fact that she cares for so many deeply. She is 💯 loyal to her family and friends and there several scenes you see this evidence.

Griffin, a top notch emergency room doctor not just known for her family’s money and notoriety in society but also being VERY good at his job. In addition to being very wealthy, he’s also very handsome but doesn’t have the best bed side manner with his nurses….that is until Tori begins to “weave” into his life unintentionally.

Both have great chemistry and the more you get to know their backgrounds and how they are they way they are you come to learn that they are absolutely perfect.

While there were many things I liked about this book/story, there are a few things to note. While I am not big with open door bedroom scenes, this one was a little more than I would have liked. It only took one for me to see how this author writes so I knew to skip the future ones. I despise the use of filthy talk and inappropriate slang type verbiage. There are several “f” bombs and profanity words used which I again highly despise. I don’t understand why authors use profanity when you can use different and appropriate words to articulate the point but again this in my opinion. At least with the open door scenes I can skip over and not miss anything while language you can never predict to be able to do so.

Eh this book was okay. It honestly wasn’t a bad read up until the ~80% mark. It was a little too (unrealistically) happy go lucky for me at the end with also some unresolved story lines.

For one, Tori’s mom never visited Charlie (Tori’s brother who has a traumatic Brian injury who has been at a psychiatric center for years). Tori’s mom constantly encourages Tori to stop playing caregiver for Charlie, however, if she didn’t visit or look after him then no one would. Her mother has MS, which she’s disclosed to no one, and she uses that as her excuse. I get with MS she couldn’t be the primary caregiver for Charlie but there’s no rationale reason she couldn’t have visited, especially when she would travel to Vancouver for her own treatment. Yet, at the end, she visits Charlie for his birthday and all is well? And Charlie and everyone else acts like she’s been there all along? Nah I don’t buy it.

Tori’s dad abandoned the family when she was younger. Come to find out, he left when his wife was diagnosed with MS because he couldn’t deal with being the caregiver throughout the tough years ahead. Tori hasn’t seen/heard from him in years yet at the very end he makes a reappearance for Charlie’s birthday and, once again, its swept under the rug that he was never around for his family and abandoned them in their hardest times. He even thanks Griffin for taking care of his family - like wtf dude. Felt like there was no reason for him to be brought into the plot, felt very phony.

Also, Griffin, the main male character, never stood up for Tori when she was reprimanded at work for something she didn’t do. She was put on probation and he hardly did anything to rewrite/correct the narrative. Although she got a new position within the hospital, I was hoping for a little bit more of a conclusion here. Felt like there was no justice other than Kate having to switch departments. Just felt like there should have been more here.

the plot isn't a bad idea however the execution is not exciting.

firstly, both MCs are not likeable at all. even though i finished the book, i still do not like them at the end. the hero just felt like an arrogant prick, he will blow up at the heroine at their workplace and tried ways and means to apologize, then this process keeps on repeating. isn't this like some kind of typical narcissistic abuser who will hit the opposite party and apologize profusely for it?? and the heroine could have show more resistance when the hero keep asking her out on a date. the resistance she showed is kind of non-existent.

then the author keep raising issues but didn't seem to properly end it, kind of just let it silently fade away. like the dating issue in their hospital workplace, or the facility issues where the heroine's brother is staying. like the dating issue in their workplace, the heroine simply just switch to another department but technically their "dating" situation is still there isn't it?

and then the ending was way too abrupt, i didn't think it was nearing the end already. felt like the author run out of ideas on how to continue so just haphazardly end it. pff... did not enjoy it as a whole...

Griffin Martin's the best doctor in the Emergency Department - which of course makes him treat others like insignificant pests who can't do anything right. No one wants to work with him. Until Tori. Tori is an amazing nurse, likely the best nurse Griffin has ever had. Of course, the fact they are in sync and she is ready to do what he wants almost before he does and tells her, is reason to be mean to her even more.

When Tori gets to a breaking point she stands up for herself in front of everyone in the ED. Instead of being fired she finds Griffin impressed with her, and he begins to pursue her. Not wanting to lose her job she fights against it. Unlike Griffin who has a trust fund to fall back on, Tori has treatment she has to pay for her brother, as well as other bills that have her struggling to even live paycheck to paycheck.

As Tori and Griffin get closer, a jealous woman who wants them causes trouble. Will they survive the fall out, or will Tori just get kicked out?

This book had great character development, and it has stuck with me for a few days since finishing it. I have loved the previous books in the main series, and this book has definitely not disappointed. This book flowed well and I read it in one sitting without realizing how fast the time was passing.

Well, Grace Maxwell has performed a miracle here, I was not much of a fan of Griffin at the start of this book, by the end it was a totally different story! I liked how over time I got to know him better and I got to see him grow as a person because of Tori, because he had someone who challenged him in a positive way and took the time to understand him, support him, encourage him and accept and love him. I enjoyed seeing things between them develop and seeing how they dealt with the things that happened to them. I believed in their connection and chemistry, and them as a couple, the women in this story definitely come out on top for me, the men, well read this and make up your own mind. Personally I would have liked a bit more justice for them both, for different reasons, but that didn't stop me from enjoying their story, once I started, despite my feelings for Griffin at the start, I had to keep reading to find out how it all turned out.

Wow!!
Fast paced…wonderful main characters -but their families are jerks— Tori is a nurse. She has a brother who had a traumatic brain injury who is in an assisted facility… Tori‘s mother wants nothing to do with her son and Tori‘s father walked out on them after the accident, so Tori basically takes care of her brother and pays all the bills….Griffin‘s family is rich and successful- he seems very close with his brothers and yet at a dinner party, his brothers and father start embarrassing him and picking on him relentlessly in front of Tori- at least Griffin‘s family apologized for their behavior—
I really enjoyed the emergency room action… I didn’t think I would, but I really liked the way Tori and Griffin worked together. Their chemistry was off the charts. I can see why they fell in love with each other and there’s some good steam too. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

He chases her?
I did not expect that whatsoever, because he is the perfectionist and bossy ER Dr that is mean to everyone on staff. She stands up to him there at work, and eventually to his family as well. For a totally different reason.

I love that by being her teammate and pursuing her, he changes his work attitude. Wanting to be with her makes him a better person, total WIN.

I did like this book in a weird way I cannot explain I read it awful fast I'm not sure if I want to read others in the series. Their descriptions did not sound as interesting. Their was smut I feel uncomfortable recommending books like this to others. I am that kind of reader I am not sure how others feel about it.

I’ll be honest the first 1/4 of this book was the definition of sexual harassment in the workplace, however I stuck with it and the book definitely picked up in the end. It turned really sweet. The MMC lost a bit of his personality however, and very much still egotistical. There was a situation with Tori that happened in the hospital that didn’t get FULLY resolved, maybe it ends up getting resolved in the later books but right now this book is like a nearly finished wrapped present. I started to really enjoy the banter between all the characters and like how this book ended. Will definitely continue on book 2.

DNF 10%

The best I can say is that the characters are too mercurial. I also felt like there was a lot of telling rather than showing (largely because there is a LOT of medical going on) and it just makes the characters seem flat and unrealistic. She doesn't date. Just...doesn't. There's no backstory for her. He doesn't date.... and there's no backstory. (I mean, sure, there's a few little hints, but nothing defining.)

The characters aren't developed enough for me to care about them. Then, he decides to pursue her. Which is just...ick. Because he's an ass who just decides they should be together?

Uh, no.

Future Stacey: don't be tempted to re-read.

2 stars only because I finished skimming it when I really wanted to DNF it by chapter five.

I really like the doctor trope, but this had FAR too much medical happening. I thought it would be a one off in order to meet the MMC and FMC, but it continued throughout and it was just too much with all the technical lingo and procedures. The MMC and FMC getting together happened like whiplash. It wasn’t smooth. It wasn’t expected. It didn’t even really make sense. Him chasing her was anticlimactic. Story just fell short in a lot of ways.

Tori's life has been a constant struggle. Not just a nurse, but a caretaker for those she loves! But, at what cost to her?

Griffin has been ridden by his family forever. Is that what's made him a bear in the Emergency Department?

Tori's exceptional performance of her job has Griffin taking notice!

Can she soften his rough edges?

Plenty of emotion.

Plenty of steam!

I always enjoy my time back at Mercy Hospital!

This novel has the potential to be a cute read, but it isn't. It is tedious and hard to plow through a plot in which the hero is unable to control his tongue or his temper. The doctor is not delightful at all; he is condescending, spoiled, and inconsiderate of others. By the time he has gone through med school, he should have learned more self-control than he has. I'm glad I didn't pay to read this book.

When I preordered this book I was so excited. Couldn't wait for it to arrive. Oh it didn't disappoint. It is so good. He is just a jerk. But is trying so hard. She will only take so much. The spicy scenes. Oh my. I love that his family is so involved in the book. Heart broken for her brother and her having to do the caring... I highly recommend this book. Check this whole series. I adored it. This book is a can't put down book. This is one of my fave authors.

Doctor Delight

This was a good concept. Grumpy, mean doctor terrorises nursing staff until one nurse stands up to him.
Tori is looking out for her brother in a mental unit with CTE. Griffin is the unreasonable doctor she works with in the hospital ER.
Sadly this book didn’t do it for me.
There needed to be more made of the conflict as it was over too quick so didn’t have much impact on the story.

Feisty and fun

I love the feisty fmc she's a strong spitfire.
The mmc is complex but he definitely falls first and is a big love bug deep down.
I enjoyed the family dynamics on both side adding to the drama.
Light reading, uncomplicated but well written.
Spice was 3/5 for me but I've read dark kinky romance.
No cheating
A HEA for everyone.
Recommend for light hearted romance/family dynamics.

Loved, loved this book. First time reading from this author, but it definitely won’t be the last. It’s well written, with great world building, and fleshed out characters - some you’ll love, and some you’ll despise. The story moved along very well and contained just enough detail to paint you a picture, but not too much detail that you’d drown in the trivial. It’s written in a first-person POV, which is always my preference, does not contain a cliffhanger, and ends in an HEA

We hear from each of the protagonists in separate chapters, going back and forth. However, they're each telling their own stories and not necessarilythe same ones at the same time.

The first chapters were nothing but filler and added nothing to the story. H is a jerk to h, promises to do better, does and they fall in insta lust. There's more filler (going out, family things, etc), then a boatload of sex scenes that didn't add anything.

Some drama, more drama, even more drama, incliding one issue with no resolution. Finally, after 340+ pages, they get their HEA. I almost DNF'd it but managed to perservere. Was I rewarded? Nope. Just happy it was all over.

Can't recommend. I've read other books where they switched back and forth between partners. When done well, it's awesome. This wasn't done well.

I'm not a fan of stories where each chapter is told in the first person by the hero and heroine... a linear style to writing. It's definitely a romance, a very racy romance, which had this "old lady" longing for the good old days. :-) I knew how it was going to end about 1/3 of the way through and, no, I didn't peek at the ending.....

I made it 9 pages into this book before I had to DNF. I don’t expect authors to know what it looks like to work in healthcare, but I expect them to do basic research. Unfortunately, that clearly wasn’t done in this case, and the unrealistic nature of even the basic things is too off-putting to continue.

Dr. Delight is delightful.

Such a good story. I laughed and cried and laughed some more. It was a bit detailed in inappropriate ways, but you can swim through those parts is need be. Over all quality work. As a retired health care provider I am always interested in other health reform. Again, good story

dnf at 66%... seriously, the hospital just believes the other nurses and there is no choice but to switch departments? and then the home Charlie is in changes his medication and cant change it back since he had adverse affects from it? 🙄 but the only choices are to change homes, kick him out and let him get arrested and sent to a worse home, or sedate him?

How anybody rates this simplistic writing 4 or 5 stars is a huge mystery. The plot is so simple. He's a massive jerk and not interesting at all. I like Tori except she lets him push/pull her away; major red flags. She should report him to her union and move on. Now that would make a better story.

Not my favorite of the author’s medical romances. Writing is good but the story didn’t have a lot of depth. More love scenes in this book than prior ones. Sex scenes are not a good substitute for a good story.

I just couldn't take to either main character. I didn't really feel they had any depth or personality outside of their work, and I also felt they had zero chemistry. I really wanted to love this book but it was a struggle to finish for me.
