From the author of the bestselling Loops & Lattes hiking books, a travelogue and friendly guide to hiking the Bruce Trail in an unconventional way — as a series of day-hike loops.
This book had some great insight and information about the trails, with some fun facts thrown in. But, at times, this felt like a slog to get through. Some trail stories didn’t feel as purposeful as others. I think with a bit more editing this would have been 4.5 stars.
An excellent and enjoyable book about hiking the Bruce Trail in short loops. As I just completed two sections end to ends, this book spoke to me about my future plans to hike the other sections. I don’t like the group e2e hikes as they are always too fast and not enough looking around. Thank you for giving me an alternative.
Reading this made me feel like I was on the hike with her getting to experience it when I am stuck at home. Learning about the origins of the Bruce Trail as well as the animals and the flora and fauna made me appreciate it more. I joined the Bruce Trail Conservancy half way through reading this hoping my small part would help preserve the Trail. I will plan to get hiking again when I can. Thanks to Nicola she has reignited a passion for hiking I thought was long gone.
Interesting hiking guide. Sometimes the journal entries to go along with the hikes weren't very interesting and I skimmed through some but overall a good guide and I look forward to completing some of the routes along the Bruce trail
5/5 - I started my BT end-to-end in 2022, the same year that Nicola hiked in this book, and reading about her adventures has got me feeling energized about continuing my journey too!
