Everlasting Ink #2

Is This Love?

Rate this book
NYT and USA Today Bestselling author Kaylee Ryan brings you the continuation of the stand-alone series surrounding five best friends who co-own a tattoo studio. "Is This Love?” is an age gap, marriage of convenience, friends to lovers, small-town romance.

Legend
A marriage of convenience is one thing… but falling for your fake wife is all kinds of complicated.

Being married for a year is the only way to claim my inheritance. I couldn’t care less about the money. It’s not like I even knew my grandparents.

I wasn’t even considering it until Monroe volunteered. Sweet, sweet, Monroe. I’ve never let myself consider her as an option for me.

She’s been tucked safely away in a box labeled forbidden. That is until she takes my last name.

Monroe
It’s not like I planned to marry one of my friends… or fall for him.

One minute I offer to be his fake wife, and the next, we’re going through the motions— saying, “I do,” and playing house.

Legend is the kind of guy fantasies are made of—tall, dark, and tattooed. Now I’m sharing his bed and his last name for the next year.

Everything looks good on paper, and while this may have started out as playing pretend, the way I feel for him is the realest thing I’ve ever known.

As the weeks pass by, it doesn’t take long before either of us begins to question if we’re just friends or if this is this love after all.

This was a cozy book to read. Minimum drama and no third act breakup.

Did I want more drama and a breakup/separation to happen? Yes. I feel like this book could have used it, but I understand why it could have been kept out of the story progression.

Both Legend and Monroe have been friends for ages and when the opportunity comes to Legend to inherit a lot of money by getting married and staying married for a year, Monroe jumps into action and becomes his wife.

Things are all pretend at first and this is a slow burn type of book. Nothing happens well after the halfway point in the story.

They had amazing chemistry and Legend was such a great guy. He truly cared for her and never wanted to be the cause of her heartache or pain.

Maybe I am toxic reader for wanting a fight or drama because everything was just wrapped up into a neat tiny bow.

There is a health scare with Monroe, who ends up in the hospital but is able to make it through but that is all that happens in terms of drama.

At the end they get the inheritance plus a secret extra bit and Legend uses that help the business with his best friends and his parents along with Monroe's parents.

We see the first books couple here having their baby girl.

All these guys are perfect tbh and I cannot wait to read about the women that catches them.

OH. MY. HEART! I swear the men in Kaylee Ryan's Everlasting Ink series just keep getting better and better! We are two down, and now have three more to go, and I'm ready for them all!!

Is This Love? Is the second book in Kaylee Ryan’s Everlasting Ink Series. We watched Roman and Emerson wade through their forbidden, brother’s best friend romance in the first novel, Does He Know? Now it’s time for Legend to find his happily ever after within Emerson’s best friend, Monroe! If you love the ‘fake’ romance trope, then hold on to your hearts! Kaylee Ryan amps up the fake marriage trope to a whole new level!! I hope you’re prepared for the SWOON Legend brings to this novel!

In My Own Words:

Legend Raines has just had his world rocked out from underneath him, and all it’s taken is a letter from a grandmother he’s never met. She left him an inheritance of 5 million dollars, but there are strings attached to this money. He has to be married for a year by the postage date of the letter, and her attorney will attend the wedding and he’ll be doing drop in visits to make sure the marriage isn’t a ruse. 5 million dollars is a lot, especially given the fact the men of Everlasting Ink have huge dreams of one day expanding their business…. What’s a man to do!?

Monroe Morrison has had enough with relationships. She’s finally figured out she needs to focus on herself, her career as a dental hygienist, and those that mean the world to her. So, when Legend comes to the group with an issue, Monroe inserts herself in the equation to help him out. I mean, it’s only a little under two years of her life. The men will be able to expand their business, and she’ll walk away knowing she helped a friend. A year of being married to the sexiest man she’s ever laid eyes, isn’t a hardship…. Or is it.

My Thoughts:

Kaylee Ryan has a way of pulling her readers in with Swoony heroes and flirty heroines. Legend and Monroe are the perfect example of why I will read anything this author has to offer!

Let’s start with Legend. I loved this man’s overall personality. If ever there was a boy next door character, it would be this man! He will literally go out of his way to help those in need, especially those in his small circle. When it comes to Monroe, thought, that consideration is amped up so much more. This man would move mountains for this woman, and it shows within every single page. Legend is definitely book boyfriend material!

And then we have Monroe. I loved how much of a flirt this woman is! I also loved that she was adamant that Legend keeps his money when the year was up and they parted ways. This woman is all about giving back and helping those in need. She deserves the world and who better of a person than Legend to give her exactly that.

One of my main ‘love’ points in this novel was watching the lines blur from friendship to relationship. I felt the chemistry brewing from the start! These two were meant to be, and there wasn’t a more perfect character to bring Legend to his knees than Monroe! Not only my heart, but my soul, were invested in this novel. I’m a fan of the swoony sweet talking heroes, and this man takes the cake!

Overall, I loved every aspect of this novel. The only reason I dropped a star was due to the fact that I wanted a little bit more time between these two. I wanted more conversation and more of them getting to know one another. If you’re a fan of friend to lover romances with the ‘fake’ relationship vibe, don’t hesitate, run to amazon, and grab this book!!

- nah i’m with Legend on the money, what gives this horrible grandmother the right?
- Monroe is a very good friend i’ll deffo give her that
- he already has a crush on her hehehe
- Legend thinking Monroe would be set for life if he gave her a million dollars is laughable, IN THIS ECONOMY
- i like that we got a bit of ‘fake’ dating before he proposed
- the proposal was super sweet!!
- and i loved the wedding!!
- god i’m so glad they had sex on their honeymoon because the sexual tension was getting out of hand 🥵
- this man does every love language you could ever think of! he has set the bar
- a mature conversation?? about their feelings?? and how they don’t want to get a divorce?? WE STAN
- there was quite a lot of time jumping in this but i like that it focused on all the holidays!!
- tell me why the third act conflict made me cry?? i was genuinely so scared, it just came out of nowhere! (which i suppose was the point)
- oh my god he loves her so fucking hard i cannot cope
- i am so happy everyone is okay🥹 it just made their love shine brighter tbh

★★★★★. ARC Review. Thank you so much to the author agency for this arc!!

Marriage of convenience with friends to lovers with a man who had a crush on his friend but never said anything because they were all friends? 5 stars right there. Throw in where he can’t go five seconds without saying “my wife” even before they are married? Obviously getting 5 stars.

Legend and Monroe marry to get Legend’s inheritance of 5 million dollars and the stipulation is he has to stay married for one year. Monroe being a great friend offers to marry him in thinking they wouldn’t fall for each other. Well that changes when you throw in some sleepovers, honey moon, forehead kisses, cheek kisses, temple kisses, a beautiful proposal, a gorgeous wedding, cute endearments and some spice; feelings are bound to come up.

I absolutely adored this book. There was no unnecessary drama and I liked how Kaylee added that plot into the ending because it showed the love that Legend has for Monroe. Will definitely be continuing with this series!!

“I’m your husband.” Her smile is soft.
“My fake husband.”
“Not fake.” I hold her a little tighter.

The only way for Legend to receive his inheritance from his estranged grandmother is to get married. And he only has one year to find his future wife. What he did not expect was for Monroe, one of his friends, to volunteer...

----------

I was so excited for Legend's marriage of convenience with Monroe! These two develop the cutest, sweetest relationship and I loved seeing them grow together. They were already friends but quickly find out they are meant to be so much more and that was a fun journey to follow.

I love their personality. Legend is very caring and protective towards Monroe and every second spent with the two of them and the little moments they have was precious and I wanted MORE.

I just love this group of friends and am very excited for what's next!

Had to dnf as the age difference gave me the ick. 31 (H) and 21 (h) was just too much for me. Also, the rules of the inheritance were sketchy, at best. He has to be married within 1 year from the date of the letter or as long as he's married... these marriage inheritance tropes are flimsy for a reason.

I didn't rate the book but I'm leaving this here so I don't accidentally try it.

Legend is my latest book boyfriend! How he treats everyone around him, and do not get me started with how he is with Monroe – Swoonworthy! The story of how they go from friends to lovers is unputdownable and hooked me from page one!

Legend is put in an uncomfortable position with his grandparents' will, grandparents he has never met. There are reasons why he has not met them, and I appreciate his loyalty. As he shares his news, another opportunity presents itself. You will not want to put this book down either.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This is a romance for readers who like sweet, slow burn with very minimal angst and no drama.
It was too far on the sweet and easy going side for my personal taste. I like more angst, more drama and obstacles.
Legend is a swoony and extremely nice guy. Monroe is kind and easy going.
Everything happened fast, there were no issues, it all went quite smoothly.
I want more fiery passion, conflict and adversity in my romance.
This is a case of this isn’t a book for me, but I’m sure it’s a book for a lot of romance readers who want smooth sailing and extremely nice, sweet, kind characters.

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

What do you do when grandparents who disowned your mother because she married for love, try to right a wrong from the grave, by offering you $5 million? You think no way, they made their choices, they don’t get to tell you what choices to make. Especially when the only way to get the money is to get married and stay married for a year. No way!
But your parents are the voice of reason and tell you to calmly think about it. So you bring the situation to your best friends, they will see how crazy this is. But, they all tell him to take it seriously, it’s life changing money, they say.
Then shockingly, the single girl in your group who has been a good friend offers to marry you.

Legend is stunned when Monroe offers to be his wife for the year they have to be married. She’s always been a flirt with the guys, except Roman cause he’s Emerson’s man and Forrest because he’s like a big brother, so it’s not a hard sell. She says that people will believe they were just hiding their feelings and now they aren’t. There is definite attraction between the two and after discussing it they decide to go for it.

Legend is a better fake husband than most real husbands. He is so good to Monroe, he listens to her, is attentive, and caring. Their respect for each other is evident and you can see them falling in love.
They start dating, meet the parents, and soon move in together. (His grandparents attorney comes to visit them to check on his progress for the inheritance.) Cute proposal, after he gets her dad’s blessing, with all their friends there. This is also where they share their first real kiss. Both have developed strong feelings for each other. Soon we have their wedding, small intimate ceremony with close family and friends, and a mountain retreat honeymoon. Again they are so sweet together, so in sync with each other. The consummate their marriage on the last day of their honeymoon. It’s on after that, lots of sweet, steamy sexy times. Their feelings are solidifying into love, Legend is more open to it while Monroe feels it but is trying to protect her heart. He admits it to himself when he sees Monroe holding Emerson’s new baby. At the six month mark of their marriage they both confess their love. Everything is going so well, they tell the friends group and everyone is so happy for them, and they buy a house across the street from their best friends, Emerson and Roman.
So the near tragedy comes out of no where and is heart wrenching. Monroe gets sick and isn’t getting better, even antibiotics aren’t helping. Legend finds her one day passed out on their bathroom floor, the paramedics intubate her and at the hospital you find out she has viral pneumonia and would have died if Legend had not gotten home when he did. She’s in the icu under a medically induced coma while the meds help save her.
The emotions and anguish you get from Legend is heartbreaking. I’m not a crier and I teared up! Once she recovers he is extra attentive of her. While they were in the hospital their one year anniversary passes. The attorney contacts Legend at the hospital but he’s worried about Monroe and not thinking about the inheritance.
Now home the attorney gives them the news that he will inherit $10 million because he has found true love.
Epilogues with him helping both their parents and the guys buy the land next to their tattoo shop to make a new facility.
Bonus epilogue with them pregnant.

Is This Love? Releases March 19, 2024

This is book 2 in the Everlasting Ink series, and picks up immediately from the epilogue in the previous installment.

Legend’s late grandmother, whom he never met, left him an inheritance worth $5 million. But in order to even be eligible to receive this fortune, Legend must marry the love of his life within a year and stay married to them for a minimum of one year before he can sit down with the attorney.

The money could help the group of guys buy a plot of land that would expand their tattoo business, but Legend has conflicted feelings since there are so many controlling terms put into place by his late grandmother who completely disowned and severed ties with him and his mother.

For a marriage of convenience story, I really liked how Legend took on the role of being such a caring partner — even behind closed doors and with their friend group who knew the terms of their relationship, Legend and Monroe’s interactions never felt fake.
My only reservations with the story is that everything happened so fast and felt too easy… they agreed to everything on the same weekend that their friends got married, and told everyone outside of the friend group that they’ve been on the down-low for months. Putting that into perspective with Emerson and Roman’s story, how they just barely announced their own relationship to the friend group, it felt like too much at once for such an intimate group of 7.

As a whole, I wanted higher stakes and more angst. We never even see the family attorney drop in on one of his surprise home visits during Legend and Monroe’s year of marriage, which was an original stipulation — this was a big missed opportunity to round out the plot.
There were also small continuity errors where it was mentioned that their first kiss was during their proposal, which is false, because Legend and Monroe kissed during a game of truth or dare in the first book, and everyone in the friend group was there to witness it.

On the positive side, there is no third act break-up, and no shortage of “my wife”!

I can’t wait to see who Forrest’s love interest is in book 3.

Tropes:
💜age gap
🖤marriage of convenience
💜friends to lovers
🖤fake relationship
💜small town
🖤 tattoo artist

This is book 2 in the Everlasting Ink series. although there’s some overlap of characters from the previous book this can be read as a standalone.

This is the story of Legend and Monroe. the MMC, Legend, has lost his grandmother, a woman he’s never even met. She’s left him an inheritance.. but it comes with stipulations. Marry for love within one year, and stay married for a full year, and receive 5 million dollars. There will be random home visits by legal team as well.

The FMC, Monroe, is younger than Legend, but offers to marry him so he can get his inheritance. Monroe works as a dental hygienist and is young, sweet and innocent. Monroe and Legend have known each other for years and have a solid friendship.

Along the way, lines get blurred. What was supposed to be a yearlong commitment and both walk away. Now is blurred because they have fallen for each other unbeknownst to each other. But legend doesn’t know how to tell her and vice versa.

Fake relationships is not one of my favorite tropes, although I do love arranged marriage.. but Kaylee did this one so good that I couldn’t put it down. I love how Kaylee incorporated found family, as the guy’s from Everlasting and Em n Mo.. she also navigated the friend to lover great. There was no awkwardness of the change of relationship.

Kaylee is one of my favorites and I cannot wait to read book 3, are you ready and read more about the Everlasting Ink family. Thank you to Give me books pr for allowing me to read in advance

This series surrounding a group of friends/found family who own a tattoo shop is something I never knew I needed in my life. These guys are all swoon worthy & so protective of their own. They’ve made a name for themselves, have had to hire new artists, and just might need to expand.
For Legend, his estranged grandmother has attempted to gain retribution in offering a sizable inheritance to him…with stipulations. He’s never cared much about the money his family had, but this sum could be beneficial for his found family as a whole. Marriage has never really been on his radar, as he just hasn’t found the woman he’s meant to spend it with. At least, not one that isn’t forbidden. When Monroe offers herself as tribute in a marriage of convenience, boy do the tables turn. Monroe is still incredibly off limits. Not only is she a decade younger, but she’s basically a little sister to their band of tattooed brothers, even though there’s no actual relation to any of them.
So what do you do when you start seeing your pseudo little sister in a different light? And what happens when you start seeing your pseudo big brother for the gorgeous specimen that he truly is? And how do we make everyone believe we are so deeply in love?
Watching Legend & Monroe “pretend” was beguiling. Seeing their true inner feelings on display in an “act” just drew me in to their deeper story. It’s easy to convince the outsiders when there’s true feeling behind playing pretend. And when these two decided to give in to the basic urges…wow. Neither one of them stood a chance in coming out unscathed. And when Legend showed the depth of his love, I was on the edge of my seat.
I’ve loved everything about this series and I can’t wait to see who falls next.

Legend & Monroe

God I love this story for them so much. Legend is so sweet and thoughtful. Who knew under all that ink and carefree spirit when we first met him in Rome and Em’s book. I just loved their journey and how much pure love they had for one another that was all low angst for this trope. Monroe is Emerson’s bestie and has been friends with the Everlasting Ink guys for a while now so when Legend finds himself in a unique situation, she offers to marry him.

These two always flirted heavily so you just knew they were going to be absolute fire. This is definitely a slower burn with all the touches here and there and the small escalations in affection. We don’t get a wild and crazy spice ride with this book but it’s enough to give us the gist of their steamy bedroom activities. My smutty little heart was so ready for some downright filth from these two. I imagined a super dominant Legend but I really enjoyed this softer sweet love making Legend too.

I was completed thrown by the last quarter of the story and even though it came out of nowhere, it worked so well with the story and Kaylee wove it into the whole plot really well. Thank god romance books usually have a happy ending. If that went differently I would be balling my eyes out. I do hope we get to see babies for them in the future books like we did with Em and Rome since it was so prominent in the talks they had.

I was honored to receive an ARC for the book “ Is This Love” by Kaylee Ryan, book two in the Everlasting Ink series. I have to say, she has done it again. I read this book in one day, and I could not put it down.

In this story, Legend and Monroe must navigate a forced proximity marriage of convenience. Legend receives a proposition from his recently deceased grandmother whom he never met. Marry for love, remain married for one year, and receive 5 million dollars. Monroe and Legend are part of a larger friend group, who have all been friends for years.
Monroe offers to marry Legend to help him get his inheritance. Legend is 10 years older than Monroe and never considered her more than a friend, but once they say “I do” he might be changing his mind.

The author takes you on a journey with these two friends, expertly balancing tenderness and respect, as they discover the realization of a love that has always existed but was concealed by the strong foundation of friendship.

Legend and Monroe are exceptionally written characters. I fell into this story and was captured from start to finish. She also beautifully incorporates the themes of found family and friendship. Exploring the profound connection that goes beyond blood ties, or money leaving you with a lasting impression of love and camaraderie.

I highly recommend this book. It is heartwarming, and will sweep you off your feet. I can’t wait for you to visit Everlasting Ink and Legends Way!

Legend’s maternal grandmother passes and leaves a letter for him in her will. The letter states he has one year to get married and stay married for one year to inherit 5 million dollars. He’s not dating anyone and is furious that his grandmother he never met would demand this. He thinks about walking away but he knows 5million would help him and his best friends with a new location for their tattoo shop, plus help his family. Since he’s not dating anyone and he tells his best friends about that situation, he turns to Monroe and she offers to be his wife.

Monroe is best friends with Emerson(book 1) and has always been part of Em’s and her brother’s friends group. Monroe is now working full time d a dental hygienist and is putting dating on hold due to her ex. She offers to marry Legend to help him inherit the money.

This marriage of convenience is so well written out! It’s a slow burn and the depth these two build with each other was so good! Absolutely loved both characters so much!

Is This Love is the second book in the Everlasting Ink series by Kaylee Ryan. This is an age-gap, marriage of convenience, friends-to-lovers, small-town romance, and I am seriously loving this series! I thought I loved Does He Know (the first book in this series), which I really did, but I loved this one even more! Legend and Monroe were everything (or should I say legendary?). 😁

The MoC trope is one of my absolute favorites, and this is honestly one of my top three favorites! It was so well-written, it felt like this is how it would happen in real life. Legend was a big teddy bear, and Monroe was a sweetheart. I am seriously loving this series and can't wait for the next book. Highly recommended with way more than five stars!

There is so many tropes going into Monroe and Legends ‘Is This Love’. Majority, I am a huge fan of, all but the “Marriage of Convenience ” one. To be honest, I’ve been OVER this trope. I find it more redundant than anything, BUT this author did her thing, flipped it and reversed it. The genuineness that this book portrays, made this book anything but an overdone redundance.

There was a real life connection between Monroe and Legend that overshadowed what was just supposed to be a convenience. There was kindness, respect, understanding, and you get the point lol, that just sucked the soul out of me. I fell face first into Legend, and still never want to come up for air.

There were amazing the side characters, that shined as well, but they were not just friends/coworkers. They were a founded family that was more supportive that I can put into words. The family aspect is what Legend and Monroe’s story is all about.

As always, Ryan’s words soothed a part of my soul that always needs a little mending with Legend’s Way, I mean her writing. I was enraptured with the dialogue, and the development that flowed so freely. I truly loved Legend and Monroe as characters, but there story is one that will stay with me for some time.

“He holds me like I’m precious, which is how I always feel when I’m with him.”

Have you ever gotten to a part of your book that made you tear up, then had to finish to know what happened? That was me with Is It Love? I absolutely loved Legend and Monroe's story. Legend was put in a situation and Monroe volunteered to help him. I enjoyed the progression of their relationship. When they finally admitted their feelings, their friends were so supportive. The turning point in the book had me tearing up- which doesn't happen often. This book was so well written and had me hooked! I enjoyed seeing more of guys and Emerson as well as the arrival of Lilly. I can't wait to see the development of the Everlasting family.

Tropes included age-gap, marriage of convenience/fake relationship, only one bed, and friends to lovers!
A pretty predictable story but so so good. The anguish of trying to hold off on their true feelings. The love and respect for one another. The attention and affection. All of it so beautifully put together. Legend and Monroe are two very sensual, loving, fun, silly individuals that when together they spark in a good way. This book was so cute! I did not want to put it down! I am loving this series and can’t wait for book 3 to get released this month!

This book was really good! I enjoyed the first one, but this one I have no complaints except I want more! The friends-to-lovers trope is always a win for me, and this story pulled it off perfectly. The fake marriage turning into real feelings, duh it’s so good. And the buildup, the stolen touches, the flirty teasing, the way it all slowly came together, was amazing. The tension was off the charts, and it all made for such a good read that I didn’t want to put down. And of course, it wouldn’t be a true romance book if something big didn’t happen that could have potentially stopped them from being together, and my gosh, it had me clutching my heart!

A marriage of convenience turns into much more! Legend and Monroe get married for the money but it doesn’t take long for them to discover they are more attracted to each other than they first thought. And luckily they were forced together by Legend’s late grandmother! Legend is a sweetheart and certainly know how to take care of a woman. Monroe is the sweetest friend to everyone and she gives up so much for others. This is definitely a heartwarming book with a tattooed, hottie as the MMC and an attractive, motivated woman as the FMC. This is a can’t miss!

I loved this so much. The chemistry between Legend and Monroe was off the charts. Everything happened so naturally for them, even early on in their fake relationship. They had me so giddy and kicking my feet and squealing for them. I am a sucker for marriage of convenience/fake marriage trope. I love seeing the character inevitably fall in love. This one took a turn I was not expecting. I definitely can’t wait to see the rest of the guys fall and to see the expansion of their tattoo shop in future books!

Legend = swoon 😍 **as I make my next tattoo appointment**
Really well written, keeps you wanting more and the next step of the love between these two amazing characters.
Additionally, I love the Everlasting Ink family! I love how they are so involved in each other’s lives and how unconditionally supportive they are of their crew.
READY for the next book is an understatement, but this one, is going to be hard to top 😉
