Xander & Miranda: Not Just a Chef's Kiss... but a "Candy Land Kiss" 5 Stars

🎶Reunited! And it feels so goooood! 🎶

Yassss! The gangs all here in the spin-off from the Vegas Immortals series and it does not disappoint!

Entering the ring, we have the bad-ass mortal of the group, Miranda taking the lead and getting deeper into the immortal fray of supernatural that surrounds her. She is called upon, as she is duty-bound, to wield the Blade of Bane against another god.

Enter: Xander. Tortured god of the seas who has been imprisoned for a several millennia due to his insanity and driven madness. Tasked by Grim to end his suffering, Miranda carries out her assignment but finds herself conflicted and begins to struggle between her sworn duty and desire.

This book was everything you would come to love and respect out Holly Roberds work. I urge you to ready your emotions, as you will definitely to go through all the feels. Between Miranda’s hilarious one-liners and interactions with Vivian and Grim, I laughed hysterically.

I also became choked up so many times while reading this book, I had to break out the Kleenex. I can (and I'm sure many other readers will) relate so much to the character of Miranda. You will feel her conflict and pain. You will also come to admire her as we get to see the layers of this bad-ass rarely seen.

Xander’s pain and torment will pull at your heartstrings and Miranda’s strength and stubbornness will both amaze and frustrate you. So be forewarned. Thats what makes this book excellent. You feel as if you are a part of the conflict.

Vivian and Grim are definitely a scene stealers as their “war” is a welcome addition and serves as a breather to the heavy, emotional storyline surrounding Xander and Miranda.

I'm sure you want to know about the spice. Well, let me put your questions to rest... Ho boy! These two steamed up my Kindle screen! The spice level was as hot as that “Candy Land Kiss”?!

*swoon* That was just the tip of the iceberg!

The story of Miranda and Xander’s purpose and future are just beginning as new development in their romance brings us to a cliffhanger. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this book. I am eagerly awaiting book two and can't wait to see all of these awesome characters take the stage again!

I highly recommend not only this book, but ALL of Holly Roberds' Vegas Immortals series.

Happy reading!

Oh my, oh my! Holly has done it again! I laughed. I cried. I got mad and I hollered. I absolutely LOVE Xander and Miranda. This book has a great slow burn that explodes when you aren’t expecting it. Xander is so endearing and Miranda goes through some great self exploration regarding her need to always be in control. The last half was a roller coaster that had me on the edge of my seat and I need the next book YESTERDAY! (If you have not yet, please read her Vegas Immortals Trilogy before starting this book.)

Wow what a great follow up to an amazing original series!

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️

I will admit I was a bit worried going into this arc because I loved Grim and Vivian something fierce… in fact they’re still one of my favorite book couple. And I wasn’t ready to be done with them, but man Xander and Miranda came right in and are now right below Grim and Vivian as one of my favorite couples!! It was also nice to see little snippets of them in this book!!

Now to focus on Breaking the Beast though. I loved everything about this book but my favorite part by far was the forbidden romance, because Holly Roberds is an absolute master at writing characters that you know shouldn’t be together but that you have no choice but to root for in the end. And if you love stories like that then you’ll love Miranda and Xander. I mean from the start there is tension, and an argument of what is right and what’s wrong. But a mutual agreement is met and slowly a friendship forms out of a mutual understanding of hardships they’ve each had to face and as that friendship grows other feelings begin to grow as well. Unfortunately for Miranda and Xander there are more obstacles that there budding feeling may be able to withstand. Honestly this was such an amazing story, it absolutely must be read after the first three Vegas immortals book or it will make no sense. If you’re looking for a book that has amazing Egyptian mythology, forbidden but explosive romance, twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end, and an ending that will make you say umm excuse me how dare you call that the end while quickly searching for when the next book will be released then you absolutely need to pick up this book ASAP as you will not be disappointed!! I really wish I could say more but honestly there is absolutely no way for me to describe how amazing this book is without spoilers so go go go and read it yourself!! The one negative I would give it is that there is an animal death in the book, it is not graphic by any means but I know it kinda bothered me so I figured I’d give others a warning as well!

HAPPY READING 📖

Consequences of Following Your Heart

This book is the 1st in this series but it is interconnected with the other Vegas Immortal stories. Although reading those aren't necessary to follow this story but it would give more insight on the secondary characters and how they all came to be.

Miranda and Xander banter was hilarious. Not quite enemies to lovers but Miranda is the guardian of a rare Fae weapon called the Blade of Bane that can be used to k*ll immortals, she is tasked to end Xander's life per his request.

Xander is a powerful Ancient god and has been known by many names even Poseidon. Unfortunately his request for death will take more than a simple stabbing. Each day Miranda comes to fulfill her duty she and Xander grow closer together.

This was a story full of s3xual tension, humor, spice, betrayal and plot twists. It ends on a Cliffhanger with Miranda realizing that she has caused a much bigger problem than executing the god she fell in love with; instead in a desperate attempt to bring back her lover, she unknowingly resurrected the very beings that needed to remain vanquished.

So good! The tension, the banter, everything was amazing! 🥵🫠 I’m so happy the author decided to go more in depth with Xander because he was a character I was very intrigued by. I was also happy to see some characters show up in the previous series too and see some of the antics they get up to! It’s safe to say that Holly Roberds has me in a tight grip because I pretty much want to ready everything she has written!

Illegal cliffhanger. No, change that. I have illegally been thrown. Off the damn cliff.

Also what a tease that epilogue was.

Gods damn it.

Good thing I'm on vacation and can just continue on with the second book.

It was good, but a bit longer than it needed to be. I feel like there was a bit stretched out to make the second book be a thing. I'll read book 2 and then see if they should have been just one longer book.

I started this book thinking it was the first in the series. It is not. If you haven’t read any of these books in this series, start with Bitten by Death. There are three books surrounding Grim and Vivian before Xander and Miranda’s story that could technically be standalone but in my opinion will give much needed background to the side characters in this connected series. I feel like I would have rated this a bit higher with the other series under my belt. (Petition to make this book #4 instead of #1 because I hate starting the middle of a series without realizing 🙄)

Taking that aspect out, the writing style was a bit childish and repetitive, and this book was described as being incredibly spicy but it felt like adult content was being told through a pg-13 lens. You got the details but it wasn’t very graphic. Not the spiciest thing I’ve read which isn’t a big deal but it’s advertised differently.

The back and forth b/w Xander and Miranda got annoyingly frustrating at times — very “no, you hang up first!”-esque. Which builds up the tension and slow burn in a way that’s just not as satisfying. With most of the book being this back and forth, we barely got a peek into their love story and then it just ends.. abruptly. The book literally ends on a cliffhanger that feels less like a cliffhanger and more like I only got half a book to begin with.

The overall story was interesting enough but I’m on the precipice of wanting to finish the series and not wanting to pay for the (next) other half of the book that should have been one book to begin with.

Many people love this book, so it could be because I just started with this one instead of Bitten by Death.. or maybe I’m just extremely picky. Regardless, my final recommendation is to read it if you’re intrigued, but start with the actual first book of the series instead of this one.

‘“A god could get confused with how many times you say no, considering all the other ways you say yes.”’

What a ride 😍 I absolutely adored Grim and Vivian’s story, and was so excited to get my hands on a copy of ‘Breaking the Beast’ and delve into Miranda’s story!
Holly Roberds is back with just as much fun, sass, moral dilemmas, drama, spice and action as usual! While I’ve got to say the snippets of Grim and Vivian in this were some of my favourite parts, both Miranda and Xander worked their way into my heart. I adored their banter and how conflicted they both were; it was great to see Xander work his way under Miranda’s skin, and watch Miranda learn to feel her emotions whilst making Xander question his.

The ending gutted me and I can’t wait for the next one!

This story grabbed me, reeled me in, gave me all the feels and then proceeded to break my heart repeatedly (in the best of ways!)!
I loved travelling back to Vegas and Sinopolis and being properly introduced to Xander & Miranda to begin their story. We knew from meeting her previously in Vivien & Grim's story that Miranda is a badass in all aspects of the word and her story really cements how but also why that is, giving us a better background on why she is the way she is and the pressure she puts herself under. I loved her grit, determination and fierce love for her family and friends.
Xander is a bit more of a mystery to us to start with and it was brilliant getting to know him. His story and his strength of character warmed me to him (crazy and all!) and cracked my heart all in one blow. Then when Miranda's duty brings the two of them together and what they have to go through shattered it fully!
Miranda & Xander's story together will make you mad, make you swoon, tug on your heartstrings and then like me, may break it too. Although the story doesn't end on a cliffhanger per se... it's got so much growth, angst and love yet to grow into and I personally can't wait! It has left me a little angsty and a whole lot angry and any book that leaves me feeling like I just NEED MORE is a great one in my mind!

The only thing holding me back from 5 stars was Miranda's stubbornness. I won't go into detail so no spoilers but you'll understand what I mean when you read this. Sometimes her continual self denial just got a bit too much for me, but it's not at a 'throw your kindle' level of annoyance!

It was also nice to revisit some of the beloved characters from the previous series (Pillow fight anyone? lol!) and the slow angsty build up for hopefully future series to come...(man am I hanging out for Timmy & Aaron's story eventually too I hope because Pheeww!)

Great story and great steam that also enhances the story, I'm hanging out for the next book so it can (hopefully) start mending my heart... 4 1/2 stars!

This is probably going to be bumped up to a four JUST because I didn't realize there are three books before this that explain past events that are brought up. Now it's written well enough you don't HAVE to read the first three, but I'm positive it will be better once I do.

This book is giving feral God obsessed with dying, but now is obsessed with her, it's giving a talking sword named BOB, it's also giving strong independent woman who didn't realize she's self-sabotaging and WILL make you self-reflect.

A retired vet and single mother works for the Grim Reaper as head of security in one of the most luxurious hotels in Las Vegas. Miranda's no stranger to the paranormal, but nothing would prepare her for the feral god in the hotel's basement whose only wish is to die. Miranda's new mission is to grant this wish, but find herself growing closer to the beast the longer it takes to help him.

This was one of those IG/Tok marketing books that had me thinking like "Yeah okay I will probably like this" I wasn't expecting a plot that made me self-reflection to open myself up to let people love you, and me SOBBING on the couch, what the heck did I just read, oh my god. Not only that but let's also cover mental illness, isolation, single motherhood, and a sprinkle of adult dating. I absolutely loved the dual POV's and how we got to watch them both grow and learn to trust each other and how they help each other. UGH IT WAS SO GOOD! Xander, I love a crazy feral-obsessed king. I LOVE IT, I WANT MORE OF IT. I would gladly play a game with him, AND LOSE, ON PURPOSE.

The spice was spicy, and delicious. I would give it three peppers.

Now I will say I did see the end coming, I wasn't sure how it was going to happen though and I was gutted. I can't wait to read the next one.

Badass and the Beast

Let's get the basics I always want to see in a review out the way first.

Tropes-
Forced proximity, single mom, powerful immortal/mortal woman, workplace, tortured hero

Spice- 🌶🌶/🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 (2.5/5)
Violence/gore- (2/5)
Slowish burn
M/F
Cliffhanger (part of a series)

Premise is as outlined-

Main male character is tortured God imprisoned underground for hundreds, maybe thousands of years. He's tortured by overwhelming amounts of power that is painful to hold inside yet dangerous to let out. He's suffered for a very long time and seeks the peace that comes with death. Unfortunately He's a God and only one thing can kill him. A magic sword.

Main female character is human, in a previous book she somehow ends up bonded with the sword, she's the only one who can wield it. Because of this, she works as head of security at a supernatural hotel, keeping God's and monsters in line. Her boss, Grim (yes that Grim, as in the God of death), asks her to do him a favor and use the sword to kill the God suffering under the hotel and she reluctantly agrees.

What comes next is how these two navigate such unusual circumstances, and slowly open themselves up.

Despite the subject matter this is not a dark fantasy romance novel. There is angst but it's not super heavy. There aren't many triggers, if any beyond the concept of what amounts to assisted suicide. This was for the most part a light, easy read, with some truly funny moments both between the main two characters but also with the supporting cast of characters who clearly starred in previous books. Grim and his (girlfriend/wife?) have a pillow fight that is absolutely hilarious.

Yes I recommend this book.

Yes I plan to read other books from the series.

It seems like a long time since I’ve read an urban fantasy.

This was a fun read and quite different from other books I’ve read in recent memory. Miranda is an ex-military officer now the head of security at a Las Vegas hotel. Oh, I guess I should mention the hotel is owned by Grim (Reaper) who is married to her best friend Vivien, a vampire. Hidden under the hotel is a prison where Xander, another god, is being held. Xander had grown so powerful that he'd lost control and now needs to be eliminated. Miranda wields Bob, AKA Blade of Bane, a sword created to kill immortals. Grim assigns her the task of impaling Xander.

Xander longs for the serenity of death however being speared by Bob doesn’t do the trick. He feels that a smidge of his power is now reduced so Miranda is to stab him daily until he actually dies. Their frequent interactions lead to mutual attraction and eventual romance.

Grim and other immortals more than frown on their relationship, insist it come to an end and that Miranda fulfill her task. She reluctantly stabs Xander and then disappears for a few days. Xander, again not dying, becomes unhinged and breaks out of his cell to find her. This creates a situation that requires others' intervention to repair. Great ending.

Bonus chapter: My new favorite insult: “Stupid head.”
Someone (maybe Bob) had told Miranda that a Fae had wielded the Blade of Bane until he became mad with power. The gods determined that Bob should only be used by a human as humans were immune to his magical influence. Long story short, Sunny is Fae and I have a sneaking suspicion that she wanted to resurrect the Fae who’d used Bob in the past.

Let me start by saying that if you have not yet read the OG ‘Vegas Immortals: Death and the Last Vampire’ trilogy, hit the brakes on this book and come back once you finish ‘Seduced by Death’. Do you technically have to read DatLV before starting this book? Well, no. Should you? Ummm, yes! (I experienced a few moments of confusion when I first started reading this book because it had been a minute since I read SbD. Typically, I would have re-read DatLV before starting BtB, but I really wanted to jump right into Miranda’s story.)

What can I say about our girl Miranda? Well… she’s a badass hot momma who seriously needs to let her hair down. (Just ask her son Jamal.) As luck would have it, a disturbed (and super hot) god with a death wish is lurking right around the corner (in the Grim Reapers basement) waiting to make his move.

Once Miranda and our tortured god Xander meet, it’s death at first sight (with love to maybe follow). From their first kiss to their first time, the passion is scorching hot and the emotions are a big ole jumbled mess. (Part of me feels like the love realizations happened pretty fast, while the other part understands that these two are kindred spirits.) It was nice to see both characters show their softer more vulnerable side to one another, even if life ended up getting in the way (as it usually does). By the end, a few loose ends are tied up, yet the door is left wide open for the next book (which I can’t wait to read). Overall, I had a fun time reading this tale and think you will too.

Egyptian Gods in modern times, ruling the underbelly of sin city Las Vegas, need I say more?
This duet is a spin off from Holly’s main series from what I gather but it works as standalone too!

Miranda is the most badass FMC. What I really love about her is that she’s not a fragile or basic character, she’s feisty. I’m so over perfect little blonde Mary Sue characters (as my friend refers to them).
Miranda is a strong, ex-military mortal and a curvy black woman, one of the only mortals working amongst the Gods and paranormal. She takes no shit and she’s a single mom! So fucking refreshing
She works for Grim (death) as his security specialist and is assigned a special task deep down in the underground. She controls the blade of bane ‘BOB’ which is the only blade that can kill a God, and she must use it to kill Xander.

Xander is God of the sea, Poseidon if you will. He’s lived too long and his inner beast is threatening to terrorize the world unless he can die. He wants to die

Miranda comes to kill him, but it doesn’t take! He’s still alive in the morning. So she comes back over and over to kill him, each time lessening his power.
But the more time he spends being killed by her, the deeper his connection and the less he wants to die.

It was such a good book! I loved the Egyptian God thing, the Vegas background and the developing chemistry. I don’t really understand the whole instant connection thing, but I liked how Xander was soft for her and she was vulnerable for him. I like the narrative that she could tame his beast!

Currently reading book 2 so stay tuned!!

Breaking the Beast is the first book in The Beast and the The Badass series, which is the next chapter in the Vegas Immortals universe. Reading Death and the Last Vampire series first is not necessary, but will definitely give you a better understanding of the supporting characters.

Am I ready to move to Vegas and find my own Vampire Best Friend and God to love after reading this book? Absolutely!! This was my first trip to the Vegas Immortal's universe, and I am completely addicted! Because I had not read the Death and the Last Vampire series first, there was one or two times I had to read through my confusion and piece together what was going on, not enough to take away from the fabulous story however. If you have read any of Holly Roberds' other books, this one will seem a little lighter on the snark, don't get me wrong, the snark is there just not as often. This is definitely a slow burn on the spice and action, spending a good deal of the story setting the stage for the series. I appreciate and expect some build up from the first book in a series. My emotions were all over the place once I did get to the action. I laughed out loud more than I was expecting, yelled a couple times, and had an unexpected strong ugly cry towards the end, and now I pout while I impatiently wait for the next book in the series to release.

Should you read this book? YES! This book is for every adult reader out there that enjoys nonfiction!!

Are u freaking kidding me with this book!! Omg!! I was hooked from the moment I started it. It was so freaking good. The character development was good, you learn a lot about the fmc but I think it helps to read the series prior to help with development cause I didn’t and there’s some small holes, nothing truly significant thou I suppose. The mmc thou there’s still a lot of mystery about him, you learn a lot about who he is and why he is there. There’s still a bit of mystery surrounding him thou. The plot was really good, it focuses a lot of his struggle with his powers and her duty to fix it. It shifts to being about their chemistry that they try to deny. Speaking of the chemistry it was really really good, so hot and heavy and really built the sexual tension. The spice wasn’t super frequent but once it was there it was there to stay. I loved their spicy scenes, the tension had been built up so so well that it was super exciting once they actually indulged. To say i was blushing so hard reading about the scene between them within the pool was an understatement. IYKYK 🥵 So in terms of spice I have to put it at about a 3/5 since they weren’t super frequent but there was quite a few of them and they were panty melting good so it’s a 3. Overall, it has to be a 5/5, I was hooked from the start. I devoured it and I can’t wait to get into the second book cause this one did finish on a cliffhanger and I just have to know! 100% recommend !!

The Badass and The Beast

Miranda is thrown even further into the supernatural world when she is tasked with her biggest job, yet kill Xander! Oddly enough, killing him day after day leads to longing and love between the two.
One day, in between her nightly kills, she is informed by Bianca not to kill Xander or the world will end, but she isn't sure how. So, of course, she is ignored because her visions aren't absolute, and the killing commences. During all this killing, the tension gets so thick until it ends with them entwined in each other.
They both learn to live for each other, although they haven't yet decided to live for themselves. Just when they think they have things worked out s*it hits the fan. Leading for the perfect opportunity for our shy Sunny, Aoiki's girlfriend, to get what she was longing for.... to bring back everyone killed by the blade.... only we dont know who exactly she wanted to bring back, and she is MIA.
Xander is now not talking to Miranda, and Miranda is now tasked with hunting and killing all those brought back to life. How will things play out? Will Sunny be brought to justice? Will Xander and Miranda get their HEA? What will become of Earth and things between Bianca and Fallon? There are so many questions I can't wait to have answered.

Anytime I start a Holly Roberds book I know I'm in for a treat...and this book is a whole SNACK! This is a spin-off from another full series (Vegas Immortals) read that first.

This story is about Miranda and Xander. Miranda we met in the previous series, but we get to know her so much better in this book. She's definitely a very complicated character. She's so strong, but has these huge walls erected around her heart. This helps her for what she needs to do, but I love seeing those walls come down.

Xander we also met, but we knew very little about him. I love this character. He is so complex and his history is a twist which is amazing. In this book we really grow to care about him and love seeing him grow and love and care again. It's beautiful!

What I love about this book is not only the characters, but that the humor is still there. AND we still get the characters from the first series. All I can say is "pillow fight war." HA! So. Good.

The spice is good! Mediumish burn. Both are protecting themselves from getting hurt so there are walls up after "love scenes."

The book does end on a cliffhanger of sorts. It is more that there is a lot of things that are now a mess and we need to know more rather than an anxious cliffy if that makes sense?

This was more or less well written with a decent amount of smutty goodness. I really liked Xander and Miranda as well as the main characters from Vivian and Grim's trilogy who reappear. Chapter 17 was the first sensual chapter & it was 🔥. Chapter 18 was plain funny, I like B.O.B., bummer about him. The on going pillow fight between Grim and Vivian was absolutely hilarious and a nice addition, hopefully it will spill over to the next book.

Chapter 31 is miss labeled, it says it's Miranda's but it's actually Xander's. Also towards the end, the last 10% roughly, there were quotation marks were there shouldn't have been, made the story flow wrong. The ending also felt a bit rushed.

Didn't really care for the bonus epilogue either: I get why Xander would be pissed off but more than anything you'd think he'd want to help her hunt down Aten, especially because she could get hurt or die. So much for love I guess. Also dating? really? what with all the dark ones to kill it makes ZERO sense, dumb. End of rant. Overall I am looking forward to reading Xander and Miranda's next part of the story.

I love the original books in the series so I couldn’t wait for the story to continue! I have to say, this book is just plain fun to read. The inner turmoil that Miranda and Xander experience help set the stage for the overall plot. Recalling the playful-yet-steamy dynamic between Vivian and Grimm, their little competition to outdo the other made me laugh out loud. Pillows… who knew? And then there is Bob. I actually had to go back to be sure that I got the acronym right 😋. A sword with a passive personality… interesting ! In a magical world where gods exist hidden in plain sight and good and evil hang in the balance, I just could not put this book down. The evolving relationship between Miranda and Xander was playful and delicious at the same time- peeling away many layers of protection so we can see and empathize with them. The twist at the end leaves me wanting so much more! Now I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily sharing my honest review.

Strap in for a book filled with intrigue, stubbornness, lust and spicy.

Miranda was focused on 3 things in her life, her son, her work and working out. And she was perfectly fine with that....no really. After her son leaves for camp, she is not bored and lonely and wondering what to do.

A late night call from her boss does give her some focus. All she has to do is kill an immortal god with a blade meant for killing gods. Easy right? Except Xander stirs something deep in her that she had long forgotten. Plus there is that pesky thing of him not dying.

Will they be able to work together to give Xander the ending he wants? Or are Miranda and Xander meant to drag each other both kicking and screaming back to life?

Breaking the Beast is a fascinating read which features immortal gods, modern day life and the best witty, button pushing slow burn. All the characters are wonderfully written with amazing dialog and interesting interactions. Definitely for adult readers. Cannot wait for the next book in this series.

Review - Wow!! Holly's writing is just exceptional. I knew I would love this book before I even got my hands on it just for the simple fact, I loved the Vegas Immortals series so much. If you haven't read that series yet I would highly recommend it as it may give away some minor spoilers in Breaking the Beast.

This book took me on such a roller coaster of emotions. I could go from happy and giggling to crying instantly.

Miranda is the guardian of the Blade of Bane and is tasked by Grim and Timothy to aid in helping Xander who is currently locked away in a cage for his uncontrollable powers. Xander asks for only one thing, but it slowly begins to wear on Miranda for what she has to do. Amidst all this they start to form a bond, they grow closer, and all the sparks start to fly. The twists and turns are exciting and oh my lord that cliffhanger!! I NEED more!!

My favorite things - Xander🥵, Pillow Wars, BOB, & Candy Land. IYKYK!

Happy Release Day Holly!! Thank you so much for the chance to read this amazing book.

I thought the Vegas Immortals was brilliant and that it couldn't be topped - WRONG!!!! Holly has topped this series with this new side story of Miranda (but also includes our favourite characters too). Now being the keeper of the Blade of Bane aka Bob for short. She is summoned by Grim to kill Xander who is the mad, dangerous God locked up in the basement. Killing him is not as easy as was first thought and as the story progresses, they both find they have feelings for each other. But dark forces are at play which leads to unexpected results. I laughed, I held my breath and I cried. This was an outstanding read. Holly keeps us on the hop all the way through the book then leaves us on a cliffhanger. There's no point in saying I can't wait for the next book because I have to... but it can't come too soon!
I received a free copy of this book from the author via Bookfunnel and I voluntarily leave this honest review.

Loved reading this story about Xander and Miranda. I loved the characters, the storyline entranced me, the humor lightened the mood, and the interactions between our H and h were engaging in this story. Their romantic adventure was a well written tale I enjoyed reading. Miranda a single mom with ex-military training and the keeper of the Blade of Bane is asked by Grim to kill a god. Grim leads her to Xander who's caged deep in an underground chamber. Miranda meets Xander and feels his conflicting emotions and power. She also feels drawn toward him. As Xander asks for her to kill him she decides to comply and leaves. Embracing peace and his death, the tables turn, and Xander awakens alive. The only god to survive the Blade of Bane. What occurs afterward between them is an engaging story that I receive a copy and that I volunteer to read and review. This does end in a cliffy for the next installment in this delightful serial.

Back in Grim’s and Vivienne’s world, Miranda will be called upon to use her blade once again. A god has been jailed for a thousand years by choice under Grim’s hotel. He begs Grim to bring the blade and owner so they can do their job. When Miranda meets him, he tells her to call him Xander. She does her job once she speaks to him but it does not work as expected. She will repeatedly kill him with the blade that helps his power dull more and more.

She has nightmares that cause her to walk in her sleep. The blade will awaken in a way nobody expects. Bianca gives a dire warning! When things go too far, Miranda will not want to perform this duty anymore. Even Xander will have a change of heart. There is something or someone playing with their fate! When an unexpected visit home turns things ugly, two others will appear to help rectify a wrong they believed occurred. Only, it unleashes hell on earth for everyone else. Now what will happen?

Miranda has guardianship of the Blade of Bane, aka BOB. With guardianship comes responsibility and when one ancient god needs to meet his eternal afterlife, it is up to Miranda to help him meet his final end. The only problem? He keeps coming back from the afterlife.
Opinion
In this continuation of Vegas Immortals, Miranda finally gets to shine. Like all previous books from Roberds, the story will take you on a ride. I laughed and felt Miranda's pain throughout. And don't get me started on Xander. He is a troubled yet appealing god. I will have to say that I stayed up way past my bedtime in order to finish this fabulous novel. I may or may not have cursed Roberds at the end when the story was not concluded but left me wanting more.
The only question I have is when will the next installment be???????

Let me preface my review by saying that I have not read the Vegas Immortals trilogy featuring the characters of Grim and Vivienne but their pillow fight battle in this story made me laugh. Miranda is tasked with the duty of killing Xander as she has the Blade of Bane (Bob). Though it's not as easy as she thought, nor is it a one-time affair. Her hesitation and reluctance grows as she comes to know the god who wishes for eternal sleep. Xander's desire for death is overwhelming. But his lack of control and loneliness wanes with the more time spent with her. This is a slow burn story that has moments of levity, deep wells of gravity and some sexy times in the pool. It does end on a cliffhanger so caution to the wise if you were looking for a resolution to the moral ethics and actions of the story.
