Do you want to know and love God more deeply? Read theology every day.
When peace seems far from us and when true rest doesn’t come, we don’t need more to-dos on our list or a set of step-by-step instructions to help us get there on our own. True peace, hope, and rest only comes by spending time in the presence of God. Spend 100 days in His Word focused on who God is and what He is like and find that He is worthy to be trusted at every twist or turn of life. He is better than our minds can imagine, in control of all things, and infinitely good. As you do, you God is the sustainer of the rhythms of the skies and seasons, as well as the intricate rhythms of our lives. To dwell in His presence is the promise of salvation, the abundant life in Christ today, and the eternal life with Him in the future. While the ways of the world lead to death, His invitation is to come and live. He truly is our highest good.
This is the most beautifully written book of theology I’ve ever read. Mary Wiley’s writing is absolute quality. It was a daily personal reminder of who God is and the extent to which He loves me. I will read this over and over; it will be a treasure in my library.
Our highest Good is an excellent daily devotional. The topics cover knowing God, hence the idea of theology every day. I appreciate that the daily readings make me think but aren’t hard to read or understand. The readings are a good length and 90 days is my preferred length – I like for it to last me a while but also want one that I will finish and move on to something else. This is one that I will keep when I’m done and take out and do again in a couple years. The book itself is gorgeous with a ribbon to mark your place. I have not read this through completely yet because I am savoring day by day but far enough in now to confidently recommend. If you liked New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp I think you would like this one as well. Thank you to B&H Publishing for the early copy to review through Net Galley. After reading the ebook for a few days I ordered my own hard copy after it came out on July 30. I’m leaving this review voluntarily as my honest opinion because I love books and authors.
Our Highest Good: 90 Days of Knowing and Loving God: A Theology Every Day Devotional by Mary Wiley is a deep, thought provoking devotional that I used as part of my personal devotion time. Each devotion thought has a an opening Bible verse with additional verses for further reading. Some devotions have more than one opening verse and may have a quote at the end. I love how deep and thought provoking each devotion entry was. Ms. Wiley's heart for the Lord comes through each entry. Our Highest Good really Ministered to me and I highly recommend it! Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.
