Ephesians - Bible Study for Women with Video Access: A Study of Faith and Practice

Rate this book
Who am I? The question of identity is always in the back of our minds, and it’s currently at the forefront of social conversations. But the first question we need to ask Who is God? Then we can begin to consider, And who am I in light of who He is? In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul describes God as a merciful and forgiving Father who unites us in Christ and empowers us to live by the Spirit. We’re adopted children and fellow citizens with the saints because of God’s loving pursuit on our behalf.   In this 7-session study, Bible teachers, authors, and friends Jackie Hill Perry, Jasmine Holmes, and Melissa Kruger walk through the book of Ephesians, examining the invaluable truths Paul’s letter holds for us today. Along the way, they’ll help us understand the riches of our inheritance as daughters of our heavenly Father, as well as what it means to walk in a manner worthy of our calling.

I overall really enjoyed this Bible study. I took it very slowly due to the amount of reading each “day” required. I felt like I deepened my knowledge and got some of my questions answered.

This wasn’t a fav for me. The study questions were so intense and sometimes too eclectic for me. I enjoy more of fact and answer questions and not so much in depth critical thinking. I do understand the importance of critical thinking but I don’t believe it’s something that has to be done every time you open Gods Word, this study made me feel that way. I struggled to not feel like I was getting homework done instead of connecting with the Lord. The videos were a no for me all together. The authors didn’t seem to mesh well and it felt like they were holding back. However I appreciate their desire to share their gift in teaching. I hope this study is a blessing to some one else.

This study was rich with God’s word, connecting theology & concepts from the entire Bible to Ephesians. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer than 7 weeks!

I went through this Bible study with my ladies group at church. I have mixed feelings on this one. The videos were cool because they feature discussions among these three ladies. I enjoyed hearing their perspectives as they talked about the scriptures together. But the downside for me was that the book and homework were pretty intense. There are many times when the author tells you to look up 5 separate scriptures just so you can answer one question. To me that felt excessive and it made me just want to skim through it rather than complete the homework. I love scripture, so this frustrated me! I would have also liked to read more examples from real life, personal stories, and maybe some humor thrown in. This just felt kind of dry to me. I know I learned some valuable things in this study, and I’m glad I did it. But I have done others that I enjoyed a lot more.

I really enjoyed working through this Bible study and really liked noting their “flavor” of how they laid out each section. I have done so many Jen Wilkin studies and still lean more towards her way but the things I loved about each of these teachers is their deliberate repeated calls to return to the greater context of the whole book of Ephesians and tie the sometimes hard concepts in light of what the whole book pulls out. I loved their insights and call to see where the Trinity shows up and enjoyed listening to the video sessions after each week of homework! Thankful for this study and the three biblical teachers I have access to learning from!

This was a great study, thoroughly enjoyed it! There was a lot of scripture readings per day though; lots of flipping back and forth throughout the Bible for the answers. I wish they would have provided the passages.

I took this study veryyyyyy slow! Thankful for what it has been for me in my time with the Lord this year.

Ask me about it in person. There just isn’t a review that would truly suffice.

Loved this study and how the authors took a deep dive into Ephesians. Angles I’ve never thought of, things I didn’t know - it was amazing and lead for some great conversations!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a good study. Although it was a bit challenging to answer some questions, I got a whole different understanding of the book it Ephesians.

I am very grateful for the depth that this study provided in Ephesians. I am now able to understand who I am because of who God is. I have confidence in my salvation. The videos that went along with each chapter were essential and enjoyable. This was a great, relatable extension of the study. I did feel like the daily homework was a bit strenuous, specifically the cross referencing portions. Super beneficial, just very involved.

I am doing this study in my women’s group. It is not easy. It is time consuming and the videos are long but it does force you to dig deeper and connect books, versus and concepts. It’s too much for newer Christians and many questions I felt like I was taking a college course. If you love that sort of thing than this is for you.

I didn’t read ALL of it but definitely most. I felt like it was in depth and biblically solid, however some of the questions felt unhelpful and a waste of time (but with study guides you’re bound to get a few questions like that though).

Great Bible Study of Ephesians that went verse by verse. I enjoyed the videos being a discussion format instead of the standard teaching format, it was different yet very insightful.

I liked this guided study a lot! I loved that the authors provided so many verses and stories for cross references and the questions were very thought provoking and sparked good conversation in our group. Also liked that it was reading, questions, videos we could watch together, and discussion questions, which provided so many opportunities to be exposed to the text. Going forward I’ll definitely keep looking for Trinitarian and abundance language in my own studies. Great focus on real-life application without orienting the whole story around ourselves.

My one complaint is that the last week’s studies were really long and burned me out a little bit - I found myself dreading/avoiding picking up the book and rushing through the daily studies, whereas earlier in the book I was really enjoying the time I spent on it and even started waking up early because I was excited to do it. That made me a little sad because there’s so much great content in Ephesians 6 and I felt like I didn’t appreciate it enough. Aside from that I thought this was a great study with lots of material and lots of wisdom and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone interested in studying Ephesians !!

Each day/week is far too long for anyone to finish, this is a time sucker and I would love to see these women recognize it is asking women to lay something else down to do a study that consumes this much time...often, likely, most of the time what they are laying down is far more precious than a study this in depth. We have husbands and children, jobs and homes to care for, or loved ones that need us or just time to relax. I don't think God intended for us to spend this much time with our nose in a book or watching videos. Maybe that sounds harsh, but I would love it if this were actually considered by those who author studies and make money off us for a living. The study is lovely, it is just asking a whole lot of us.

I prefer studies that push me to think and provide the structure/scaffolding to get there. Perry, Holmes, and Kruger are individually strong writers. Together, wow. These three writers pull out so much insight, reflection, and knowledge to build a deep understanding of Ephesians. It's not just a checklist of right behavior, but a rich tapestry showing us who we are in Christ. The videos were a great asset and engaging, but the full teaching was still part of the physical book. The study doesn't include questions that require watching the video to understand. However, the conversations in the videos do enhance the study.

Finally finished my Bible study that I started over a year ago! Normally I like the more academic Bible studies where you are traipsing throughout the Bible to put things together but uff da, this was a lot of work! I did like the historical, “big picture” and practical aspects. The videos were just tedious. Doing this as a group you definitely need a strong and wise leader, and if I were doing another similar study on my own again, I’d definitely purchase a leader guide so I’m not googling answers to some of the questions for guidance 🫣

I loved the videos and the casual realistic conversation the 3 authors had. I also loved that they eat wrote 2 chapters so we got different writing styles and perspectives. I think my big takeaway is that being created "in his image" goes so much further than just looks and emotions/personality. In his image means that we get to mirror divine aspects of the trinity here in earth to better understand him and also display to the unbelieving world!!

Normally, I love Bible studies and I was super excited to do a study by Jackie Hill Perry.
I like to consider myself fairly intelligent, but these three ladies are highly intellectual. I had a difficult time following the videos and the text.
Did I get the major points of the study? Yes! But I felt like my brain was physically exhausted.
To be fair- maybe this particular letter is difficult to study?

This is a great study for anyone looking to dig deeper into a specific book of the Bible, and Ephesians is a great one to start with. It’s definitely packed with content, but doable for most people. There is a great balance of education and allowing the reader to find the answers for themselves and really dig into the word. The background of the book intertwined with the day to day content was great. And definitely watch the videos that come with it if you can!!

This was a good fall Bible study into Ephesians.
Video prompts with the book were good too. The writing was done well with reflective writing prompts & insights.
There is some repetition & redundancy in the writing tasks, but it allows those who like to sit in that process longer to do so & those who don’t can just skip through it.

My ladies' group and I got a lot out of this study and it led to many good conversations. I would recommend this to a small group. There is a good bit of homework but they do a lot of review to help you digest the material.

This was one of the best Bible studies I’ve done to date. Be prepared to dive a little deeper and search the word for context. JHP never disappoints with her wisdom and knowledge. Highly recommend to anyone wanting incentive to spend more time in the word.
