Where there’s a body in Malvern End, there are secrets to be uncovered… Jude Gray has worked hard to bring a steady equilibrium to life on Malvern Farm and things are going well.

The only fly in the ointment is the foul addition of a new face in the staunch townie and chauvinistic sleaze, Des Smith. Jude has nothing but sympathy for his caring, patient wife, Loretta, who has become a regular visitor to the farm for a cup of tea and a chat.

But things take a turn for the worse when a hit and run outside The Lamb brings death once again to the village. Is it an accident or is something more sinister afoot?

Perhaps the answer lies in the stranger with red trainers who’s been seen wandering through the village and through Jude’s fields at night. Following the clues, Jude desperately hopes she will find the right answers, because the murderer being someone she knows is unfathomable…

Jude and Noah are getting ready for mating season and Lucy has a new job at a nursing home and little Xeb now goes to school or with their nice neighbor Larreta who is like a stand in grandma for little Xeb. It’s too bad she is married to mail chauvinist Das. That isn’t even his worst characteristic he drives around the village in his fancy car acting as if he is the cock of the walk he cheats on Loretta with married women and Jude learns he also swindles people out of money or at least that’s what the gossip is. Jude does her best to ignore all the talk because she is busy with mating season and getting the back pasture ready for her Glamping plans she isn’t sure where she’ll get the money from so when she buys two secondhand hutts and a stranger named Marco agrees to stay in one wall helping her with her new business things are looking up especially when Lucy‘s ex Paul gives up full custody to Lucy. Things only start going downhill when spuds wife is seen around town with Loretta‘s husband Daz
And a woman shows up at the auction causing trouble for Loretta and then gets run over in a hit and run. Jude starts thinking of romance for the first time since Adam‘s death but when Lucy is accused of murder her only focus is her family and poor Larreta. Jude learns not everyone is who they appear to be and sometimes you can never know someone well enough. I love these books I could not wait to read the second one and was not disappointed. Kate Wells does a great job shaping a mystery from an already interesting plot line and OMG if I wasn’t glued to the pages! I can honestly say something I have never said before and this is my absolute favorite mystery series. It is between a cozy mystery and a thriller mystery and a genre all its own and I am loving it I like the first one murder on the farm and love this one stranger in the village if you like mysteries with wonderful characters in an interesting plot line that travels from book to book although none end in a cliffhanger then you will definitely love a stranger in the village By Kate Wells! I want to thank Boldwood books and Net Galley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

The second book in the series & it’s easily read on its own. I do like Jude & feel that I’m really getting to know her. The pace never lags but it strolls rather than runs. I also really like the secondary characters especially Jude’s three year old nephew Sebbie. There are twists, turns & red herrings & I didn’t guess who the villain was, which is always a bonus. I look forward to many more in the series
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Following the death of her husband Jude Gray has worked diligently to rebuild the farm. Her sister and nephew are living with her, and life is beginning to settle down as Jude looks for ways improve to improve the farm's finances. The only problem is the unwelcome addition of the chauvinistic, Des Smith. Jude has sympathy for his caring, wife, Loretta, who has become regular visitor to the farm for a cup of tea and a chat.

Unfortunately, the peaceful country is shattered after a hit and run outside The lamb brings death once again to the village. Was it an accident or something more sinister? Jude is once again drawn to uncover what has happened, fearing her family may fall apart. Perhaps the answer lies with the stranger in red trainers who has been seen wandering through the village and Jude's fields at night. Following the clues, Jude desperately hopes to find the right answers, as the thought of it being someone she knows is unfathomable.

This was an excellent and a brilliant follow-up to the first in the series. We learn more about the key characters while new characters do not detract from the story. pacing is well-balanced as the story progresses, revealing different possible perpetrators before the final denouement. I gave this 4 stars as I guessed the "who" quite early on but not the "why". I look forward to returning to the Malvern Hills. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

I always fall in love with covers featuring cottages and the blurb attracted me. A well plotted cosy mystery featuring quirky and likeable characters.
The setting is lovely and the plot is tightly knitted and full of surprises

Carrying on with the delightful Malvern Farm mystery series, this second installment was just as good as the first!

Our protagonist, Jude Gray, is a young, childless widow who now runs her large sheep farm with the help of Noah, her shepherd, and her loyal dog, Pip - with memories of her late husband never far from her mind. When she met her husband Adam, he introduced her to his life-long friends and they accepted her into their warm fold. Now, it has been three years since Adam's death and she shares her home with her half-sister Lucy, and Lucy's three year old son, Sebbie.

Jude cares for hundreds of sheep, her Bantam hens, her pet lamb 'Pancake', and Gertie, a golden Cheviot goat. In this book two puppies are added to the menagerie, much to Sebbie's delight.

Jude is a loyal, empathetic and caring protagonist, whose personal motto is 'be kind'. She has a strong work ethic and loves her farm, and the animals that inhabit it. She has a deep connection to the Malvern Hills area and walks the hills as a way to unwind and decompress.

Like most farms, Jude's sheep farm is struggling financially. She decides to diversify to earn some much needed income. She purchases two old wooden shepherd's huts which she plans to 'do up' and rent out to 'glampers'. Not long after they are delivered an artist turns up who wants to help renovate the huts in return for a roof over his head. His name is Marco and he is the first man who has captured Jude's attention since Adam died...

Meanwhile, Loretta is a new neighbour who has made herself invaluable to the village. Loretta's husband Des, however, is an obnoxious and odious man who is rude and swindles others out of their hard earned savings. When Des is murdered, Jude discovers his body and, once again, finds herself mired in a murder investigation. Then, another murder on Jude's farm prompts her to question.... Could the murderer be someone she knows? Emotions are running high at Malvern Farm.

West Mercia policewoman DS Binita Khatri (Binnie), makes another appearance in this, the second novel.  She has become a personal friend of Jude, and keeps her apprised of the police investigations.

This novel portrayed a working sheep farm, in all its messy, arduous glory. Jude was a strong and admirable character that I am eager to follow in subsequent novels.

The writing was compelling and made for an easy, enjoyable reading experience. There was a plot twist that I didn't see coming, as well as one I did anticipate. The denouement was very satisfactory. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in this engaging mystery series. A series which has become a personal favourite after only two books.

The second book in this series was even better than the first. It's October on the farm when the book starts. Jude is enjoying the peaceful season after the crops have been harvested. Now the rams have to do their job of getting the ewes pregnant and the description of how this was done, leaving dye marks on the ewes back sides, was interesting to read. Jude has made friends with an older woman who lives close by, Loretta Smith. Her husband Des is a creep, bragging and showing off, but Loretta is a kind and gentle friend. Jude has decided to set up a glamping site at the bottom of her farm and has a couple of used shepherd huts delivered. A handsome young man named Marco arrives just in time to help with the renovation in exchange for accommodation. Then Des is found dead, stabbed in the back, and peace at the farm is disrupted.

I was intrigued at how Jude could do almost everything from feeding the animals to tiling the new bathrooms in the glamping site, and then cooking meals for a big family. She and Noah adopt two puppies too, one who Noah will train as a sheepdog, and one who will be a family pet. I had to say to myself "what!" a few times because of the coincidences on identities of new characters who arrived at the farm, but it all seemed plausible enough in the end. I am looking forward to more from this author, she's easy to read and the story flows along well. Thanks to Boldwood Books for allowing me an advance copy of this story - I'm happy you did!

One Liner: Slow but enjoyable mystery

Jude Gray is busy keeping her farm afloat and diversifying to generate more income. She is still getting over the previous murder and the attack on her life.

However, things get complex when Des Smith, a sleazy chauvinist newcomer in the village, gets murdered. His wife, Loretta, is a kind and loving person, a good friend of Jude. There are a few other strangers around, one of them being a mysterious person with red trainers.

Like it or not, Jude once again has to solve the crime with DS Binnie Khatri.

The story comes in Jude’s third-person POV.

My Thoughts:

As guessed, the pacing is on the slower side like the previous book. Even the atmosphere is dark and continues a few months after book #1 ends. The narration is better, so looks like we are settling into the series.

Little Sebbie is three and going to nursery. He is a lively child, adding some funny moments to the story. Of course, like every other kid, Sebbie can throw a tantrum, and we see it multiple times. And… never underestimate a child’s ability to remember and use cusswords. ;)

This is my second book that talks of glamping sites on farms as a source of additional income. Both books highlight the need for eco-friendly practices, which I like. However, given the dark atmosphere and the almost bleak setting (despite beautiful locations), I’m not sure how camping here would be glamorous.

That said, Jude is great at managing the farm. Sure, she has help, but she is not afraid of tough jobs and is willing to learn. Lucy is now working at the retirement center and helps with housework whenever possible.

The mystery is intriguing and has enough twists to keep the reader hooked. Binnie’s role is more of someone who shares the updates with Jude and discusses ideas to investigate the case. I’d love to see her in action someday. She is balanced, controlled, smart, and dedicated.

Jude is not without flaws, which makes her annoying at times. A character calls her self-righteous, and I agree. However, this implies the character development is deliberate (to make her more realistic, I guess). Maybe give her a task she cannot do on the farm? That should add to the authenticity factor.

And… it is easy enough to guess the killer and gets way too evident as more information is revealed. If Jude wants to become a sleuth, she needs to step up and stop trusting every darn soul who acts kind. Not considering a theory coz the person is kind-hearted won’t work!

And oh, I love the two new members on the farm – Alfie and Ned, cute little pups. The farm already has Pip, the dog; Gertie, the goat; and Pancake, the lamb. The author has a new Alfie, too, but has unfortunately lost her Pip recently. Here’s hoping her sweet dog enjoys exploring the doggy heaven.

To summarize, Stranger in the Village is a dark cozy mystery about family, relationships, friendship, doing the right thing, taking chances, and solving crimes. It’s also about not jumping to conclusions and accepting our mistakes. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Stranger in the Village is the second Malvern Farm thriller(ish) mystery by Kate Wells. Released 30th June 2024 by Boldwood Books, it's 359 pages and is available in hardcover, paperback, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free. The other books in the series are also also currently available on KU.

Jude is again drawn into investigating a spate of unsettling occurences including a hit and run outside the pub and a mysterious stranger walking her fields at night. She and DS Binnie again collaborate to get to the bottom of things. It's a testament to the author's command of character that all of the characters, including the secondaries are well delineated and three dimensional. Each is quite distinct from the others and readers won't have any trouble keeping them straight.

The author is also quite adept at setting, and the whole is effective and engaging. The mystery itself is well engineered and culminates in a satisfying and twisty way. The plotting is -excellent- and the mystery is very clever.

It's the second book in the series and although it works well enough as a standalone, the continuing characters' interrelationships develop throughout; readers should expect some minor spoilers if read out of order.

Four and a half stars. It's not at all derivative, but fans of Faith Martin, P.F. Ford, and J.R. Ellis will likely enjoy this one. With three books extant in the series and a fourth out from the same publisher in first quarter 2025, it would be a good candidate for a binge/buddy read. The author seems to be on a semi-annual publishing release schedule, so there are books coming out regularly.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read "Stranger in the Village" in exchange for my honest review.

This is the much anticipated second book in The Malvern Mysteries series and while the first book was fabulous, this one was even better! Once again it is set at Malvern Farm which is run by Jude Gray, who inherited it when her husband Adam died from cancer unexpectedly.

Her sister Lucy and 3 year old nephew Sebbie live with her now. Lucy is a carer at the home where Granny Margot lives. Noah the shepherd still lives in the pink house with his dog Floss. DS Binnie Khatri who has become a close trusted friend to Jude is back as well.

Jude is trying to find more ways of bringing in income as there isn't enough in lambing. She decides to try glamping and buys 2 Shepherd's Huts that she fixes up with the help of newcomer Marco Ricci - who offers labour in exchange for a place to stay while he paints. But who is he really?

Des Smith is the town bigot who feels that women can't be farmers. In contrast his wife Loretta is a lovely caring woman. Des throws some threatening words at Lucy that they can't figure out the meaning of?

There is a hit and run in front of the pub and a woman named Pamela Heath is killed. No one knows this woman or why anyone would run her over. Then another murder happens and it pulls Lucy into the middle. Once again murder hits too close to home for Jude as they find another body on her land.

Ms. Wells has weaved some surprising family ties into this story that the reader might not have seen coming. Not everyone you meet in this book is who they appear to be. So many family links appear that raise as many questions as they answer.

Some fun parts of the book for me where Pancake the lamb and Gertie the Golden Guernsey goat who are delightful. Two new pups have joined the farm as well - Ned and Alfie.

The story concludes with a Christmas dinner where Noah, Granny Margot, Gerwain (one of the carers from the home) and Binnie join Jude, Lucy and Sebbie. Deep down family is at the heart of everything.

Jude met Ben at university and was welcomed by his friends from childhood Charlie, Adam and Sarah into their group. She later married sheep farmer Adam. Adam has been dead these past three years and Jude, together with invaluable help from shepherd Noah and his dad Frank, has taken on the running of Malvern Farm, now hoping to make ends meet by setting up a small campsite. Her half-sister Lucy has also come to live with her, bringing her toddler son Sebbie along and working at Granny Margot’s care home, so things are looking good again for all of them. In the previous story Sarah was murdered and now her cottage is being rented by the lovely Loretta who has thrown herself into village life. Unfortunately, she also comes with Des, her obnoxious womanising husband, who seems to be making himself very unpopular. Things don’t stay quiet for long though when a charity night out for Lucy, Jude and good friend DS Binnie Khatri at the Lamb pub ends with a woman being killed in a hit and run outside. Soon it transpires the victim was another of Des’s conquests but was it really an accident? And who is in the frame? There are certainly plenty of good suspects. Meanwhile Jude acquires a willing helper at the campsite but events take a darker turn when there’s another murder and when the police focus on a prime suspect close to home, there’s nothing to be done but for the reluctant sleuth from book one with already plenty on her plate to seek out the truth.
There are some great characters who were introduced in the first story in this new series, and I have a real soft spot for Granny Margot, Binnie, Noah, Floss, Pip and, of course, Pancake the lamb and Gertie the goat! I like Jude, she’s become a tough cookie and a hard worker out of necessity but still has a lovely caring side to her and keeps everyone together. Although it’s filled with furry farm animals, there are some dark goings-on in the quaint village of Malvern End, and plenty of surprising twists for the reader. With a lovely ending, I am looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Read Kate's first book. Murder on the Farm, so was looking forward to this. Would it still be ok based in same place?

Absolutely it is. Jude, Lucy & Sebbie and Noah are back with all the animals and the farming. But a new couple have moved into the village Des and Loretta Smith. Jude and Lucy really like Loretta, as does Sebbie, but they do not like Des. He treats Loretta badly having had several affairs and now carrying on with one of the women from the village who is also married.
Jude is diversifying the farm: shepherds huts and glamping is her plan. The shepherds huts are delivered and it looks like an uphill battle to renovate them. Until a handsome stranger called Marco, an artist asks if he can camp in one. But will he be the one to follow Adam in Jude's heart?
When a woman is run over in the village all the evidence points to Des because she had an affair with him in their last home. Des disappears making it look worse, then one night when Loretta has been babysitting Jude takes her home, and Des is laying in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor, his last words are for his wife, saying her name and 'Bison' or at least that what Jude thinks.
Then things get more complicated as Loretta's son Paul turns up - he is Sebbie's father, the same horrid man who Lucy has only just got out of their life. But he isn't there for Sebbie, he's there to see how much cash there is in the will for him! But when the will turns out to list someone else as full benefactor things take a turn for the worse. Paul is also murdered! But was that the wrong person?
Lucy has already been taken in for questioning over Des's murder because there are pictures of her and Sebbie on his computer - lots of them, but now she's taken again and the police have evidence of both murders!
Jude has to figure this out and quick.

What a fantastic book to start the year with. Five stars, hands down. This is the second instalment of the Malvern Farm Mystery series by Kate Wells and though I gave the first book 5 stars as well, this one is even better.

Jude Gray has had a difficult year after her best friend was murdered months ago. Not to mention, lamb farming has not been financially sustainable in recent years. Jude decides to throw herself into a new project to diversify her farm’s offerings: glamping.

As she sets up the shepherd’s huts on her property to slowly renovate on a budget, a man named Marco proposes he helps out with the huts in exchange for room and board. She believes this might be too good to be true but cannot pass up on the free help.

Soon after, she goes to a charity auction organized by her new neighbour, Loretta. An unfortunate hit and run occurs and Jude has witnessed another death in her small village and she once again is thrown into hunting for clues and finding out who the killer is.

This story was so fantastic. The characters are so loveable and I was thrilled to see Lucy (Jude’s sister) and Sebbie (Lucy’s son) be even more involved in the story now that they live with Jude. I had all sorts of guesses in my head as I was reading and I was excited when the mystery unfolded that I had been right in some areas as I had caught onto some clues.

I know I will follow this series to the end, it is well written and well paced. The setting of a lamb farm reminds me of a goat farm I visited on an airbnb (who also offered glamping!) and it is so nostalgic and really keeps me attached to the story and series.

Thank you so much to Boldwood Books for giving me an e-ARC of this book through Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.

The second in the Malvern Farm Mysteries but it reads well as a standalone, there is plenty of information about any vital previous plot points.

Jude Gray is enjoying a quieter time on the farm. The rams are enjoying themselves, the harvest is in & she has time to watch her Farmers Weekly broadcasts. Her sister, Lucy, & nephew, Sebbie, are living with her & Noah, the shepherd, is on hand to assist with anything that needs doing. Jude knows she needs to diversify & buys two shepherd huts to renovate & rent out. At the same time, a travelling artist, Marco, appears & offers to help do the work in exchange for being able to stay in a hut for free. Jude has also struck up a friendship with Loretta, a newcomer to the village with her vile & obnoxious husband, Des.
A woman is knocked down & killed in a hit & run. Des is found murdered shortly afterwards. Jude’s quiet life evaporates & she is drawn into another investigation with her friend Binnie, who happens to be a police officer.

I haven’t read the first book, so have nothing to compare to but this was an enjoyable cosy crime read. The characters develop over the book & Sebbie is a typical 3 year old, eagle-eyed & repeating things that he has overheard, whether he should or not! I loved the touches of humour & the informative passages on dog training & tupping etc. The amount of information Binnie gave Jude did grate - I know they’re best friends but even so.
Your heart rate is not going to increase reading this book but sometimes that is just what you need. An easy read which flows well & although I had an inkling who the murderer was, the reveal was cleverly handled. I look forward to book 3 & hope Marco makes a reappearance…

Kate Wells’ Malvern Mysteries series continues with the second nail-biting instalment: Stranger in the Village.

It’s been a rocky start, but things are finally going well for Jude Gray and Malvern Farm. Having put in the hours and all of her blood, sweat and tears, Jude is enjoying seeing all her hard work pay off. The only thing that is annoying her is the arrival of newcomer Des Smith who in a very short space of time has managed to get on everyone’s nerves! How a man like that could possibly be married to sweet kind-hearted Loretta is an absolutely mystery. However, Jude soon realizes that she’ll have more pressing things to worry about than awful neighbours.

A hit and run outside the pub brings death to the village again. Was this an accident or something far more sinister? Jude will be forced to do some sleuthing of her own as she wonders whether the identity of the killer could be connected to the stranger who has been seen tramping through the village and her fields in the middle of the night.

Can Jude find out whodunnit? Or is this case so tangled and twisted that even she will not be able to solve it?

A brilliant bucolic mystery that will keep readers guessing till the very end, Stranger in the Village is a compelling, unpredictable and tense crime novel from Kate Wells that I found very easy to get into and very hard to put down. With a great sleuth at the heart of this book, Stranger in the Village is a terrific cosy mystery that has me eager for the next title in the Malvern Mysteries series.

The story was fun and kept me guessing. Jude is definitely a strong independent woman and nothing seems to faze her, she is so hands on with anything she sets her mind to!
I found this an enjoyable read and actually enjoyed it more than her previous book in the series. It was a nice easy read and there were times when I thought I knew who had done it and then there was unexpected twists and turns that kept me on my toes. I look forward to reading more from this author.

"Stranger in the Village” by Kate Wells was a captivating 5-star cozy mystery. Jude Gray is trying to move on with her life after her loss at Malvern Farm. Things were starting to improve, especially after Jude decides to bring camping to the farm. Quickly, those plans are derailed. The list of tragedies starts with her witnessing a hit and run outside of The Lamb and they keep getting closer to home from there.

When I read the description for this book, I was hooked and knew I had to read it. I was a bit hesitant since this is the second book in the series, but I decided to go ahead anyway. I am so glad that I did. Even without the mystery, the way you learn about the farm and what the family is doing was interesting. I especially enjoyed the way the animals were brought to life with the small details about their unique personalities. Add in the mystery, and you have a book that keeps you wanting more. There were several twists along the way before the final mystery is revealed. I am definitely going back to read the first book in the series.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Boldwood Books, for letting me read and review an advanced copy of this book, Stranger In The Village, by Kate Wells.

Jude Gray has a farm in Malvern End, which she runs with her shepherd, Noah, and also has her sister, Lucy, and nephew, Sebbie, living with her. Jude is still recovering from the death of her husband and some recent murders on the farm, book one in the series, and she is struggling to make the farm a success. She wants to add some campsites on the farm to supplement her income, along with raising sheep and chickens.

Unfortunately, there is a new murder to solve, when an unpopular town resident, Dez Smith, is found dead. Jude and her friend, DS Binnie Khatri, have to solve this murder, as well as other mysteries in the town. Meanwhile, Jude is struggling with her feelings toward her first camper, an artist, who is also helping her fit out her two new shepherd huts. As the deaths add up, Jude finds herself in danger, as she fends off an attacker who is responsible for all of the murders in this story.

This is a well-written and interesting mystery, and a nice look at life on the farm in Britain.

An absolutely gripping read from start to finish. I had my favourite suspect towards the end but there were so many twists that I kept questioning myself.

There were a few new characters in the village and I didn't trust any of them but I wanted to believe in Marco as he and Jude were becoming friends with a hint of something more.

Village life in Malvern is as lively as in the first book. Affairs, domestic violence and a hit-and-run are the talk of the day. But when another murder occurs and Jude's sister, Lucy, gets arrested as suspect number one things take a very sinister turn as it means that the real killer is someone very close to Jude and her family.

Lucy's son, Sebbie, provides a lot of comical relief in the way all toddlers do; repeating inappropriate phrases at the most inopportune times and being generally cute and adorable between tantrums.

There are some very dramatic scenes, particularly where Sebbie and Jude are in harm's way. I could not put this book down.

Humour, small-town drama and taut suspenseful scenes create a winning combination for this mystery series.

Great to return to the Malvern Farm once more,
With new friends, surprises and so much to explore.
Jude has new plans to diversify the farm
Never anticipating anyone else coming to harm.

A new couple moved into the village and seem
The opposite to loves dream!
He's obnoxious, rude and sleazy, too,
Whilst she's friendly, joining in and finding things to do.

A hit and run leaves a stranger dead.
An accident or something worse, instead?
There's worse to come for the village once more
The chance to investigate Jude can't ignore.

Another village murder mystery with family drama, too,
That keeps you guessing all the way through.
There are twists and surprises as well as possible romances
But dare these folk take any chances?

An enthralling cosy mystery and a great read,
I really hope you'll find it is a book (and series) you need!
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.

This is the second book in a series, but I read it as a standalone. It’s a cozy, slow burn mystery taking place primarily on a farm and the small community in which it is located. Jude runs the farm and lives there with her sister and toddler nephew. Noah works on the farm and seems interested in Jude’s sister. Everyone in town is alarmed when there is a fatal hit and run. In addition, there appears to be an unknown man walking around at night. There is a large cast of characters who are interesting and well delineated. Jude follows the clues and becomes enmeshed in the mystery, while taking care of the animals and building new shepherd huts on the farm. If you love farm animals you will love the details in this book. Overall it is an entertaining and twisty book. With thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC. My opinions are my own. susanh_bookreviews

Widow Jude Gray has had a difficult year what with her best friend having been murdered, trying to manage the sheep farm without her husband, and her self-entitled sister (Judy) having moved in with her small son. Her ally in the local law is DS Binnie Khatri, and there are many other supporters to help them get through this mess. Part of Jude's issues is the expansion of a camping/glamping aspect to the farm to help the finance base, but things really get messy when there is a hit and run of a woman who had come to see a local Lothario who was later murdered, himself. Worse yet, her sister Judy is arrested for that stalker's murder. Then things really get messy!
I requested and received an EARC from Boldwood Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Rating: 4 Stars!!
Review:
Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for hosting this book's tour last month and for the FREE EBook to promote and review for Kate.

I really wanted to love this one but it fell a little short for me. I was expecting to find out who the Stranger in the Village was in Chapter 2 but sadly i didnt find that out til Chapter 4 so i felt i had to rate it 4 Stars!!

The Characters were fun and enjoyable to read about but it was hard to pick a favorite since i seemed to like all of them.

The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in the book while reading especially when the scenery was described.

Overall a Good Book 2 in this Mystery Series. Can't wait to read Book 3 when it comes out!!

This book in the Malvern Mysteries series takes us back to the farm and reintroduces us to some old friends and new characters., not all of them likeable or quite what they seem to be. When a particularly toxic character dies, his last words leave a cryptic clue to the murderer, but will Jude solve it? I like the setting for this story with the charismatic animals, the complex and relatable characters and the murder mystery with multiple twists. I did work out the murderer, but I wasn't sure I was correct until the final chapters. I enjoyed this rural mystery.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

This cozy mystery is the second in a series. I would recommend reading the series in order as this book references the first book and it sounds exciting! This book focuses just as much on the people as the mystery they are working to solve. Jude owns a sheep farm and decides to setup a glamping site in her pasture. The reader follows her in her journey and it’s a fun journey! One of my favorite parts of the book were the UK words such as gassing, bugger, and plaster to list a few. As an American I love the UK slang! The story is also very recent as it mentions King Charles. This is a great cozy mystery you can get lost in.

I enjoy cosy crime novels, so I hoped this would be my kind of book.

On first impressions, I felt it definitely had the cosiness and the countryside village setting that I hoped for. I also found myself warming to the characters, and there were some humorous moments that tickled me. I think my favourite character was Sebbie, as he was adorable. I would have liked to read the first book prior to this, as it seemed there were references to some prior events, but I still enjoyed this one. It was very light, easy reading and a lot of fun.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.

This second book in the series was better than the first, but I figured out the 'bison' clue almost as soon as it came out of the dying man's mouth, and I correctly guessed the murderer early on but not all the twists that were revealed at the end. The telling of the novels in this series have both felt a bit long and drawn out, but listening to them on audiobook means having frequent interruptions and occasional lengthy lapses of time between "readings" which always makes a book seem long. This book was a bit more tightly plotted than the first one, which seemed overly complicated, so that's good news for readers like me who wish to continue following this series. Off to #3.

I actually liked this one even more than the first.
The mystery kept me guessing and it wasn't until very near the end that I figured out who was the guilty one was, just before the light bulb went off for Jude. A lot of twists and turns in this one.
I also enjoyed reading about life on a sheep farm.
I already have book #3 queued up to listen to.
Narrator was good. Only reason I don't say great is because the voice she has chose for Lucy is really annoying and more like a petulant teenager than an adult woman.

I was immediately sucked into this village and its characters, I haven’t read the first in the series, but this did not impact my enjoyment.

I loved Jude, would love it if I had her energy even more! She’s a bit of a Wonder Woman!. Despite the murders I would love to live somewhere like the books setting and adored the village life.

The authors writing flowed so easily and the twist was a complete surprise to me. I’m now off to read book 1 and get to know the characters even more

This is the 3rd book I've read in this series, as I started out of order. This one was less enjoyable for me. It's a painfully obvious villian and then you spend the whole book willing our Shero to GET THERE FASTER. It made her hard to like in this instance. Things didn't click for her until the very end; yet she didn't bat an eye at the villian being useless to help free her sister the first time her sister got taken away by police?!

Another wonderful mystery from Kate Wells.
After reading Murder on the Farm. I was interested to see how book 2 compared. I was not disappointed.
More great characters, a twisty plot to keep you guessing, lots of sub plots and more animals to add to the farm.
Def recommend. Looking forward to book 3!
