One night of passion may bind their futures forever.
John Garrison is a master of disguise. He’s as skilled at slipping into cover identities as he is at evading personal attachments. So when a sexy, brainy crime analyst challenges his life as a spy, the urge to run is as strong as his hunger for a sinful taste.
Nadia Powell is a geek at heart. Solving the latest cybercrime and binge-watching her favorite series are satisfying ways to win at life. But when a bossy CIA officer barges into her comfy existence, the urge to push him away becomes an ache to reel him in for more than just a kiss.
When Nadia’s current case escalates into a national security threat, John recruits her into his own covert op. He's always one step ahead. She hates surprises.
So, when their fiery attraction explodes into a complex web of lust and feelings, they both question who they are. Fate has a way of thwarting their best laid plans.
Her Covert Protector is book four of the Rogue Protectors series, but it can be heard as a stand-alone.
Victoria Paige writes smart, edgy, seductive romance.
Her heroes are badass alpha males and her smart, strong-willed heroines can hold their own against a bossy hero. Her books are sexually explicit and may contain dark themes, morally ambiguous choices, and disturbing situations as she injects realism into her stories and gives them her own twist.
Victoria lives in Richmond, Virginia with her husband and playful German Shepherd Dog, Loki.
That sentiment just about says it all for me after reading John Garrison’s story in Her Covert Protector. My anticipation for Garrison’s story in Ms. Paige’s Rogue Protectors series did not disappoint. Nadia and John turn out to be the perfect two to tango on a covert op and in the bedroom. It takes all of John’s power of persuasion to convince Nadia that they can work together and explore a personal relationship even though he blew it on both fronts in their first encounters. Both characters went on unexpected journeys of self-discovery during their blooming relationship and dangerous covert operations together. This made for some great suspense and amusing interactions with several supporting characters in the story as well.
The yummy part of this story was watching John, the cool, unyielding, but provocative CIA operative, slowly figure out that you can’t separate your feelings forever in order to protect people while dedicating your life to duty and country. You never truly forget the way your “Ma” raised you, but John was giving it his best try. Then along came an exasperating, but intriguing analyst that could be the key to helping his team stop a devastating cyber attack that has global repercussions. She could also be the key to helping John realize that it’s ok to let people into your life and pursue someone special for yourself. Staying detached stops working when John admits he just can’t get Nadia out of his mind or keep his hands off of her.
Unfortunately Nadia isn’t having any of it after her early encounters with John Garrison. She is a savvy and strong woman dedicated to her job and loved ones, but she dreads the unwanted attraction to this domineering agent. She doesn’t want to fall for Mr. Cyborg! She’s known the sharp end of John’s displeasure when things don’t go as planned on crucial operations. She isn’t ready to trust in his promised transformation, but for the reader it was fun to watch John figure it out for himself and convince Nadia to take a chance that he can change. Suddenly John is going into alpha protective mode when Nadia is in any danger and Mr. Possessive if any other male is giving her attention. His methods of persuasion were sexy hot and became quite sweet and heartfelt. (I can see John rolling his eyes at the word “sweet”.)
When Nadia is persuaded to work with John, something in her is awakened to become more than an LAPD crime analyst. She evolves into a person who is excited by partnering on covert missions with John and matching his skills in disguise and secrecy to keep people safe from destructive cyber terrorist threats. These threats in the story are very relevant to the kinds of attacks we all fear in real life worldwide. The author has a penchant for taking the reader into a whirlwind of espionage in her suspense, and it’s exciting to read and problem-solve the pending outcomes until the end.
John’s working dynamics with his team, getting to know the senior gang in Nadia’s building, and learning to relate to people in a social setting were quite humorous and entertaining throughout the book. It was delicious to observe this stoic agent break out of his mind’s compartments to experience emotional connections and a satisfying special love he never thought he could have. Both main characters evolved into more well-rounded persons individually and as a couple. The epilogue was superb! I read it more than once just to get all the feels! This story is one of the best books this author has written. I can’t wait to read about other characters from this series.
I received an ARC of this story for an objective review.
John and Nadia are one of my favorite Victoria Paige couples. Such off the chart chemistry. My kindle nearly melted within the first 30 % of their story. A lot of this story takes place in Southern California-especially Los Angeles. That was fun reading about places near where I live. This books still took me away. Nadia is a kick ass heroine. John is swoony, but he does a few lughead moves. I say lughead -not a jerk, since John's a great guy. He does have a lot to learn about women. He gets quite the lesson from Nadia. He is fierce as a spy. Things go wrong, and John has his MacGyver moments. John is putty when he's around Nadia. Focus john! He does. When are they going to admit that they're the one for the other. Great supporting characters . Kelso is a cutie. There are some others that were in previous books. A lot of action and intrigue. Such a page turner. I received an ARC of this book. My review is my own opinion.
Plenty of action, heat and a master of diguise, John needs Nadia's help, but being the alpha he is and the way he's treated Nadia, there may be a problem. I love Nadia's dad Stephen and his poker buddies. Not everything is as it seems. John needs a reality check and Nadia is the one to give it to him. She loves her techie toys, so she was easy to bribe by john for her help.
This was my first book by this author and I'll definitely check out others. I liked her writing style and her characters. The blurb says that Her Covert Protector can be read as a standalone and it can, but there are a lot of references to events, groups, and people from the prior books that confused me at first, which is why I didn't rate it higher. I was still able to enjoy these characters' story though. It's told in third person, dual POV. No ow/om drama, neither are virgins, and no mention of how long it's been from what I can recall but neither seemed to sleep around. The prologue does have a ONS between the main characters that happens after the events of the prior book.
One aspect I really liked about this book is the chemistry between the H and h felt believable to me. Neither was sure about a relationship with the other because the H is a CIA operative, yet the sparks flew when they were together. The h is a tech analyst for the LAPD with some mad skills of her own (and a lot of tech jargon) so she was also capable, even when the H wanted her on the sidelines to be protected. As part of the investigation they're involved in, they even get to dabble in disguises.
Both characters were likable and there were lots of side characters that were equally likable and fun (some with prior books and some probably in future books). As serious as the threats are that their teams are facing, there's a lot of banter and fun to break up the tension. There were plenty of steamy times, some jealous/possessive scenes, lots of action and suspense, and a sweet HEA. Best of all, the H makes way more changes and adjustments than the h, which is awesome.
John works for the CIA and is more concerned with the end result and isn’t concerned about the tactics that he has to employ to get there as there are much bigger factors in play. When he needs Nadia’s help for his latest case he is conflicted as there is no doubting she has the skills to assist however that would mean facing the feelings he has for her that he has been able to deny so far.
Nadia works for the police department and her knowledge of IT is second to none. She needs to be convinced to work with him as not only do they have different views on the attraction between them, but he isn’t the easiest boss and that is when things are going well.
The storyline is intriguing, the action will keep you on edge and I enjoyed the evolution of John’s character as he opened his heart to Nadia and the future they could have together.
Exploding mix It's a very good romance, full of action, of twists and turns, while remaining romantic, with characters who are not stupid. I really liked the way John realizes he is evolving and he loses his CIA agent side, (manipulative and unscrupulous side to achieve his goal), to regain his foothold in the reality of a possible relationship with Nadia. The story is complex on the espionage side, but also because of the works of the heroes John and Nadia who can't have a regular relationship. The story is hot, complex, very well written to convey the evolution of feelings, the characters. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Well, John is complicated. John made me mad and, yet, I still liked him. Nadia is a great match for John. These two have great banter and chemistry. Lots of action and suspense. A couple of surprises along the way. Great epilogue.
5+ stars *ARC kindly provided by the author and I’m leaving an honest review*
Her Covert Protector is the fourth book in Rogue Protectors series. Oh my!! I couldn’t help but be captivated by the amazingly written story and a raw, twisted, darkishly beautiful storyline – plot that the author so skillfully intertwined and told. With fantastic characters and the strength that they needed to draw from each other you will be hooked from page one. The storytelling is powerful, raw, amazing and captivating with so much depth and heart. I love the way author portrays anguish, self-doubt, how we can see both characters’ development through the book, individually and together, how they are dealing with the situations – their emotional / mental state and how gradually they are falling in love / accepting feelings. This book is going to evoke every single emotion. Yet another powerful, riveting, engaging and invigorating book. Her Covert Protector is a one hell of a ride with chaos, heat, secrets and revelations. Filled with plenty of action, suspense, danger, love, healing, brotherhood and family, it left me breathless and enthralled.
If you love: ★A strong, vulnerable, takeout-loving, sassy, jaded heroine with a weight of a world on her shoulders who is not really equipped in dealing with our grumpy, sullen hero but she tries to because she can’t deny the pull between them ★A gorgeous but slightly sullen, grumpy, damaged, displeased, sinful hero with a heart of gold, weight on his shoulders and protector ★Military / Protector / (Darkish) romance ★A thirst for revenge ★The mystery they are thrown into and the fight for the survival ★Enough emotional baggage to fill a room ★Gripping / gritty / raw ★An edge of your seat page turner / Fast-paced ★Unpredictable twists and turns ★Lots of fun in a way of a witty, sarcastic banter ★Fun cast of supporting – secondary characters that add to the story and development ★Loyalty between team members ★Off – the- charts chemistry ★Intense ★Passionate ★All consuming ★Frenemies to lovers ★Second chance ★Secret trope that I can’t give up because it would be a spoiler ★Beautiful love story = then this book is absolutely for you
Garrison and Nadia’s story is an emotional, beautiful second chance, frenemies to lovers romance that will hit you straight in the feels and wreck you in the best possible way. They have a rocky start and not a smooth path. Separately they are beautiful mess, together they are perfectly imperfect. Their love story is not perfect. It’s layered, loud, angsty, fast paced, real, raw, gritty and emotional. They challenge each other and make each other better. They shouldn’t work but they absolutely do. The push and pull between Garrison and Nadia in this book is incredible. They were full of witty banter, angst, action, romance, and a few clever twists. Garrison and Nadia won me over from the moment they met. What a love story it is! It's messy, emotional, healing, insanely romantic, steamy and utterly beautiful with ALL.THE.FEELS. and SWOON. Both are stubborn. She brings out his softer side, protectiveness and possessiveness. Nadia is a light to his darkness and makes him stand still for the first time ever. Garrison isn’t used to talking about feelings because his training taught him, it makes him vulnerable which he considers a weakness. They changed each other by teaching how to love and trust again. They are effortless and familiar and yet complicated and perplexing. It’s such a sight to see how this tough, uncompromising, relentless, tenacious hero falls for vulnerable, witty, brilliant and nerdy heroine. I love that they didn’t give up on each other even though the life have thrown them quite obstacles. I was very invested in their story which hooked me in from the first page and had me rooting for their happy ending.
I inhaled the pages and didn’t want it to end. THE. EPILOGUE. WAS. EVERYTHING. AND. MORE. It left me wanting a novella with this cute little family. It was HEARTBREAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL, UNPUTDOWNABLE, RAW, HEALING AND REAL! It’s such a beautiful love story that had everything I love: damaged, broody hero, vulnerable, strong, kickass heroine, family, the brotherhood between members of this team, plenty of danger, mystery - whodunnit, and romance. This series just keeps getting better and better! Each book can be read as a standalone but you will definitely enjoy getting to know all these characters and a background on Nadia and Garrison. Cannot wait for the next book and more of Levi and Bristow.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest and voluntary review. Ms. Paige is very good at writing page turning keep you on the edge of your seat books. This is the 4th installment of Rouge Protectors, but as with all of her books they can be read as stand alones. Some of the story line flows from one book to another, but it doesn't effect the current one if you hadn't read previous books. For the most part you know and love the characters better.
John Garrison has been with us from the beginning, he's CIA, but occasionally pretends to be Homeland. He's got sort of an abrasive personality, by that I mean he's more about getting the job done, than worrying about people's feelings. Nadia Powell has also been there since the beginning as an analyst, computer guru for LAPD. Especially in books 2 & 3 you started to see there was trouble brewing between these two. The good 'ole love hate relationship, but again if you didn't read those books, you didn't miss anything about their story.
What a ride it is, sort of like a James Bond flick, but to quote Nadia, "John is way sexier than any James Bond actor ever was." He's all alpha male, trying to dial down his protective instincts for "his woman" as they try to save California and perhaps the world from a crippling cyber attack.
I personally enjoyed the MoMoS, (Merry Old Men Of Skylark apartments) The only gang in this book that are for the greater good, keeping Nadia safe. They are also a lot of fun. Besides them we had a brief cartel involvement, and some Russian mobs.
I'm not one to give out a lot of information about the book, because I feel a reader needs to enjoy it for themselves. I look forward to future books in this series, I mean at some point Bristow deserves his HEA, and I'd like to see a second chance of Levi and Kelly working it out getting back together.
Nadia and John were two polar opposites and yet at the same time, so alike. I've been waiting for their story and I was not disappointed! These two came together and it was like a powder keg self combusted. Nadia's job as a crime analyst and John's clandestine job with the CIA always brought them together inevitably often on cases of national security. The fiercely covert operative was drawn to his nerd girl and the more he fought the attraction that ignited between them, the stronger the pull became like a moth to a flame. John made a statement that was so swoon worthy I think I highlighted it on my Kindle for real... "I like the kind of man I am with you" like oh my God, panty melting honest to God I'm done I'm his with that statement. His job though made any kind of relationship almost impossible, the danger and risk factor hard to ignore. Nadia tried to deny him at every turn insisting she wanted a man who was more stable and safe. But in the end, he may be the only man she never knew she needed. Their chemistry is off the charts fire. I loved this book to no end. I've been waiting patiently...ok impatiently for #4 in the Rogue Protectors series because I knew this was John and Nadia's story coming. Victoria Paige has created a great steamy and suspenseful series I've been hooked on since day one. I'm always certain the last book I read was my favorite but I think this one took the cake for me. I mean, I wanted to reach out and slap one or both of them for their craziness, cried a few times, laughed often and possibly had a mini stroke. I cried over Dugal by the way!! And I'm certain Victoria Paige is quite possibly the queen of epic plot twists I never saw coming. I mean, drop the Mic what the hell did I just read? Edge of my seat the whole book. The whole series in general.
From the blisteringly hot opening scene to the sweet and swoony HEA, this book is a non-stop action-filled, nail-biting romantic suspense drama with more sheet-clenching, pulse-pounding steamy scenes than all three of the earlier books in the series! Nadia and John start off with a bang - literally - and it just gets better and better with every page.
Someone is after the very high-tech project developed by Nadia's friend, and John's been tasked with bringing the tech designer under the protection of Homeland Security. When he refuses and is later murdered, only Nadia's tech skills can keep the counter terrorism task force one step ahead of the mobsters, both foreign and domestic, that are trying to get their hands on the device.
Meanwhile, John's ice-cold persona is slowly melting around the one woman who reminds him he's still human. Even so, I love his domineering "tell, don't ask" approach to pursuing Nadia, almost as much as she loves it. His transformation throughout this book - especially compared to the CIA operative we got to know in the earlier books - is exquisitely portrayed and was a joy to read. He finds his "people" and comes to appreciate the close-knit community and his role in it.
The attention to detail in this story is sublime. Clearly the author has done an amazing amount of research into all facets of the storyline, which makes this story feel as relevant as if it was ripped from today's headlines. There are plenty of surprising twists and turns, all of which kept me glued to my reader as I devoured every bit.
Where the first three were standalone romances connected by an ongoing terror threat, this one stands completely alone in both respects. Still, I highly recommend reading the earlier books because they're just fantastic and not only will you get to know John and Nadia before this book starts, you'll also know who the other couples are when they appear in this one.
This book is one of the best romantic suspense stories I've ever read, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
The anticipated wait of the grumpy, a**, unfeeling spook has finally arrived and the author knocks it out of the ballpark.....WHOWEEEEEEEE what a read !!! John Garrison, the spooky spook and Nadia the nerd girl, set the pages on fire with the sparks coming from these two whenever they are together. John in the previous books was not a loveable character, his actions and demeanour could be described as cold and calculating, meanwhile Nadia, is the geeky analyst who is a loving and caring woman with friends and family. These two navigate a relationship while trying to solve a case that could have dire consequences if not solved. This is a standalone but to get the most and appreciate how far these two come along and get the full effect of their pasts and who they are, recommend reading the previous books in the Rogue series.....they are all WORTH IT. This read has it all....steam....oh man the steam was HOT HOT HOT....the suspense....the action....twists and turns....surprises....amazing characters....a MUST read!! I LOVED LOVED LOVED the little to no drama between them, the no O/W drama, the protectiveness and alpha man John lets loose, and Nadia....I LOVED her, her strength, her backbone and her nerdy mind. The story flowed beautifully, page after page I couldn’t put it down....and the epilogue....didn’t think I could sigh and swoon so much but John in his tender and loving moments that didn’t seem possible to come from this man....sigh and swoon. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
4.5 Stars Nadia is worried. She hasn't heard from John since she got back from Mexico. She's not even sure he is alive and she thinks it's all her fault. Then she comes home from work and he is in her apartment. Emotions are high and things get physical. Nadia wasn't expecting this and then he's gone again on another job. It's what he does. Never staying in one place for too long. The next time he shows up he is looking to pull Nadia back into one of his CIA jobs. Nadia does not want to help but she know what could happen if the computer software he is trying to find gets into the wrong hands it could cause major damage. They were not expecting feelings to get in the way of their work but that is exactly what happened. While on a job undercover, John get captured and tortured by a mob boss. His time there has him changing the way he want to spend the rest of his life. A surprise pregnancy changes everything. Now all he wants is to spend time with Nadia and their baby. It may be time to quite the agency. But first his team needs to stop the person trying to steal the Crown Key and make sure everyone makes it out alive.
I have really enjoyed this series. The author pulls me in quickly and keeps me right along with her all the way to the end.
*** Advanced copy provided in exchange for an honest review. ***
I just knew there had to be more to John than we’d seen up to now. Yeah, he’s a bit cold at times. But he’s got good reason to be. And Nadia is the flame to met that icy exterior and make him want to be a better, completely whole man. Of course, he has to convince Nadia to give him another chance, since the one and only promise he made was broken by something outside his control. And so John sets out to win the girl. And all that comes with her.
I’ve loved this series so far, and this book was no exception. We get some danger and mystery, a lot of laughs and good times with the people who have become family (even if John didn’t want to admit that at first), and we get glimpses of what may come our way. John may be my favorite thus far, simply because he didn’t play games. He knew he needed to make a change, he knew he wanted Nadia, and so he focused his mind, body, and soul on winning and wooing her. Along the way, he showed his soft underbelly and his pure heart, so what’s not to love? I can’t wait to catch up with him and Nadia again in the next book.
Nadia Powell was thrilled when John Garrison returned from his last assignment, but she hadn’t planned on celebrating the way they did. John works for the CIA and refuses to commit to a relationship due to the danger he often faces. If there were anyone for him, it might be Nadia, but he is “one and done” or so he thinks. What if the “one and done” ends up becoming more permanent? His next fact-finding mission puts John in danger, will he make it home alive? Nadia works for the LAPD and has mad tech skills that usually keep her behind the scene, but not with her latest case. When danger stalks her, will John be there to save her? I had not read anything by this author and it seems I have missed some great stories and characters. I will definitely be looking for her other books in this series, as it was apparent that Nadia and John have a family of “friends,” as well as her other books. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "HER COVER PROTECTOR" WOW!!! What an addicting read it grabs you from start to finish, so much suspense, intrigue, mystery, action, danger, hot steamy scenesm twists that have glued to your seat. John Garrison is a master of disguises a CIA operative needs it in his line work as a spy he & team needs the brilliant Nadia Powell cybercrime expert to work with them but the way he treated her before it could take some convincing to get her to agree. John & Nadia work well together on this covert op also hot & steamy in the bedroom their journey was dangerous exciting amusing at times working out how they feel for each other she has changed him he now realizes he have work & someone special for him he can't get Nadia out of his head. I definitely recommend to get this amazing book that won't disappoint so well worth the read in the end will John & Nadia get their HEA you have to this book to see how it all turns out its a must have book for sure. AWESOME READ!!!!!
My poor Nadia, she fell for a spook who is easily spooked LOL! Nadia is a smart cookie who is a crime analyst and/or a brilliant hacker for good. John is a man who works for the CIA, so he won't form attachments because of his job, but there's something about Nadia that has his life in some chaos. Trust me, he's done his utmost best at really messing with her head so I wasn't a big fan of his for a cool minute to be honest as he totally blackmails her into helping him despite it not working out well for her. It just so happens that they're both involved in a huge case that has danger after her so the twists are coming in hot as bodies are dropping. However, this is when he truly realizes that she's meant to be his so he does an one-eighty turn around about them. The heat is HOT HOT HOT, the action is heart racing, and the cast of supporting characters bring a great deal of humor to the table so yeah, I LOVED LOVED LOVED Her Covert Protector! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I knew that this one was going to be epic. John Garrison was the most elusive of the guys in this series. He would show up just in time or he would be the mastermind behind the plan or you get the picture. Would be there to oversee and protect but never form any real attachment. Until Nadia. I adore Nadia! She doesn’t put up with John’s attitude and basically puts him in his place. John doesn’t know how to deal with it most of the time except to be better. I might have fallen hard for John as well. His way of being was a way to… well you’ll have to read it. Just know that this is filled with some really sexy times, some really bad guys and a surprise that I didn’t see coming until the end.
A roller coaster ride with these two characters. John developed a side of himself he’d been missing since he’d left his family to be involved in the CIA. He was so emotionally closed off because of his work that it took two big events to make him realize that he had people he valued and he wanted to explore his feelings. Nadia was a super hot tech gal, mentally as well as physically and had attracted John from the first time he’d worked with her. Her extended family helped him work on bringing back his emotional sections of his life. Excellent book. Loved the characters that had their own books in the past being a big part of the book.
Loved this one! John Garrison is a CIA operative and a man who focuses on getting the job done no matter what. Nadia Powell is a geek girl at heart and works on a special team at the LAPD and is currently irritating the heck out of John. He cannot stop thinking about her. When a massive cyberattack threatens these two have to work together to stop it. Both John and Nadia begin to come to grips with who they have become due to life experiences and what could be. We also get the teams from the LAPD and CIA, the MoMo’s, lots of action and suspense and extremely hot steamy scenes.
The book delivered all my expectations. I laughed every time Garrison thinks he could compartmentalize his feelings for Nadia and when something happens, he'd be so overprotective, bossy and jealous. I love strong, badass female lead, but a marshmallow at heart, and Nadia is all of that...and they sizzle together, add to that the cyber crime they have to solved, it adds for a delicious suspense. And, I like the camaraderie of the group, characters from your previous books, it feels like family. Superbly done, cant wait for the other Alpha male stories like Demitry?!
This story was one heck of a ride. There were twits and turns....several speed bumps.....blind corners.....shifting gears....slamming on the brakes. Truthfully, the rush I got from this story is almost the same I get from riding on the interstate with my husband! Now I just need to back up and read the rest of the series. I received a copy of this book via Hidden Gems which I am voluntarily reviewing.
A sizzling good read with suspense and plenty of action/drama related to the LAPD’s cybercrime task force and the CIA. The relationship between Nadia and John is hot. What started as a hot emotional hookup after an Op unexpectedly turns into something so much more. Both of these independent characters learn to make adjustments and develop.
I received an ARC from Hidden Gems and the author. I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Her Covert Protector (Rogue Protectors ,Book 4) Victoria Paige
This page turner was one amazing read. It kept me glued to the edge of my seat with the non-stop action. There was alot more steam in the pages of this novel, then the other books in the Rogue Protector series. John and Nadia's story is going to be a hard one to top. I'm looking forward to reading Levi and Kelly's story in the near future.
Wow I have waited a long time for Garrison's story and i was not disappointed, the guy is hot with a dry sense of humour - the book is also full of action!
I didn't think I'd love the H because of the previous books but he's now my favorite. He was absolutely the best. And this is now my favorite in the series.
I'm so in love with this one!! I've been waiting for John Garrison's story, and it did not dissapoint! The chemistry between Nadia and John is off the charts!
The forth book in the Rogue Protectors series a well written story that kept me turning pages. John Garrison and Nadia Powell's story has suspense, drama, danger, twists, turns, villains, and romance. The story was well worth reading. I received a copy of this book via Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review.
