This novel, Was such a intriguing read. Getting just a snippet of what's going to happen in the future.
An intriguing first peek into the world of Kaella.
This short prequel to Pact gives a good history and background for the events that will follow; a brief introduction to the various new fauna, customs and practices of the world too, which can seem a little overwhelming in such a short story, but I think it’s a great tool that can be referred back to by re-reading if necessary. I’m already invested in a couple of the characters, and now can’t wait to read Pact to find out how their story continues.
"The Cusp" sets the stage for a good story. At first, I didn't think I was going to like it because it felt shallow. But the lack of depth seemed explained by the audience for which it was written, and since I had committed myself to read it, I stayed with it. I am glad I did. "The Cusp" sets the stage for the rest of the story to come. The Moonstone Academy's code of conduct--"Courage. Compassion. Commitment."--hinted at the values the book series might inspire in young readers. And this prequel enticed me to see how the story would unfold in the next book.
I went into this novella not knowing much more than it was a YA witchy fantasy. I had zero expectations as I'm unfamiliar with the author. I am very happy to report that The Cusp is fantastic! The premise is really interesting, it isn't anything that I've read before. The world building is great too, this short novella paints a picture of a very unique world that I definitely want to read more about. I can't wait to read The Pact, the first full length novel in the series!
This book introduces the world of Kaella. Within this world, the land of Macornia is in grave danger. Six friends must go to extreme lengths to see that a prophecy is fulfilled so their home can be saved. This is a prequel that beautifully sets the stage for a magical series. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
The Cusp, the Pentacoven Chronicles Prequel by Sutton Scott, gives us an introduction to an ancient prophesy, Macornia and its customs, The Moonstone Academy for Young Witches, and a group of witches who are determined to change the future.
Can Marconia yet be saved? Only time will tell.
I am interested to see where the next book in this series, The Pact, will take us.
I was excited to delve into this new series by Sutton Scott. I was not disappointed! It was finely crafted and well written. It's intended audience is YA but I believe the storyline will capture the imagination of a fantasy lover of any age. The tie in between the world of Kaella/Macornia and Earth is amazing!
I thought this was a pretty good read about young witches and warlocks as they finish their last year of school. The lead characters spend the whole year researching a potential solution to save their world - and successfully convince their world leaders to give it a try. Definitely a long game idea. Will it work? Definitely read this before Book 1! Provides good context to the series.
This is a very detailed prequel to what I’m guessing will be an action-packed, page turning book! Sutton Scott sets up the history of this fantasy world of witches and spells. When I got to the end I NEEDED to start the next book. Let’s go!
3.5 I'm definitely interested to see where the story goes but I could tell this was created just to be an info dump to tell us about the world instead of a story with the world building intertwined.
This was my first by this author (under this name). I wasn't my favorite, but i would definitely read the next. This prequel seems to have set up for a pretty good series.
