A woman he's never met is carrying his child in USA TODAY bestselling author Delores Fossen's The Marshals of Maverick County miniseries When U.S. marshal Wyatt McCabe tracks his target to a Texas ranch, he isn't the only one with Lyla Pearson in his sights. But Wyatt has a powerful reason for keeping the beautiful CSI director out of the line of fire-he may be the father of the child she's carrying. The mother-to-be doesn't know who to fear more-the gunmen surrounding her house, or the stranger claiming paternity of her in vitro baby. Holed up together at his family homestead, Lyla struggles to fight her attraction to the sinfully handsome lawman. But with a killer stalking them, it may tear their new family apart….

I’m a USA Today bestselling author, and I’ve sold over 100 novels. Yes, 100! Needless to say, I write a lot. I’ve had the honor of receiving the Booksellers' Best Award for romantic suspense, the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award, and I was a finalist for the Rita. My books have been featured in Vogue, Woman’s Day and Woman’s World. I’ve also had nearly a hundred short stories and articles published in national magazines. I love hearing from readers, and you can contact me through my webpage at: www.deloresfossen.com.
Usually, I don't read category romance because they are too simple and undeveloped to me. I made an exception because I needed this book for a challenge. It was an average read, however I wasn't in the mood and the story didn't grab me so it took me a week to read it.
I generally enjoy the suspense part which is far more developed than the romance part and I found it positive. It is interesting and eventful. The romance part is minor and quite typical if you include the main couple falls in love in one day or so.
It is okay. I would probably give it 2.5 star for this interesting suspense part.
Exciting conclusion to the Marshals of Maverick County (reviews) series. Lyla is pregnant with Wyatt's baby and doesn't know it's his until he shows up at her ranch. In order to force her to manipulate evidence in a murder investigation involving Wyatt's family, someone switched the embryos at a fertility clinic. Wyatt is determined to protect Lyla and his child as well as solve the mystery. The best way to do that is to marry her and take her to his family's ranch for protection. Wyatt is a widower who really has no desire to marry again since he can't forget his late wife. Finding out that Lyla is carrying the baby that he and his wife had made makes him determined to claim his child. To do that, he has to keep Lyla alive. I loved Wyatt's protectiveness toward Lyla and also for the rest of his family. He did what he thought was best to keep her safe but didn't expect the kick of attraction he felt for her. It made him feel a bit guilty, but he came to understand that maybe it was time to move on. Lyla had gone the in vitro route to have a baby because she doesn't want to wait for the right man. She's had two failed relationships and that's enough. Wyatt's claim to be the baby's father distresses her because she had been expecting to be a single parent. Finding that she's also in danger because of it just increases her stress. I liked the way that she went along with Wyatt's plans once she realized that she really was at risk. She really didn't want to be attracted to him because of the trouble she foresees regarding the baby, but she just can't resist him. Those feelings turn to love pretty quickly which causes her to have dreams of a future with him, but only if he returns her feelings.
The action in this book is nearly constant as the mystery of who killed the director of the orphanage where the boys grew up gets closer to being solved. All the boys want to be sure their foster father is not guilty but some of the evidence is not looking good. There are several suspects who are all accusing each other, plus whoever is trying to kill Wyatt and kidnap Lyla. There are several twists and turns as the whole family gets involved. Loved the ending with the mystery solved and a couple HEAs to go with it.
I’ve really enjoyed this series with Kirby and his 6 foster sons, who are all US. Marshals. Each book in the series is a stand-alone book. If you pick one up, you will not feel lost if you haven’t read one before. This book was fast paced with action, suspense, and romance. Wyatt found out that Lyla was pregnant with his child because of a switch at the fertility clinic. When her life was threatened he was there to protect her. Someone paid to have the embryo switched so they could force Lyla to manipulate evidence in a murder investigation. Wyatt, Lyla, and his brothers worked hard to find out who was behind the threats on their lives.
Sample from chapter 6 – They’d barely made it inside the SUV when there was the horrible sound that shook not just the truck but the ground itself. The sound of the blast. “Get down!” Wyatt ordered, but he didn’t wait for her to do that. He pushed her onto the seat and followed on top of her, shielding her with his body. Lyla caught just a glimpse of the explosion as it ripped through the building and sent a spray of bricks and debris right at them. It pelted the SUV, but somehow the window held.
I really liked this miniseries The Marshals of Maverick County. This was the final installment in the series and the action was fast and furious. This was Wyatt McCabe’s story. Earlier in the series he had found out that an embryo that he and his late-wife had stored had been stolen. He found the recipient of the embryo, Lyla Pearson. Lyla is in danger thanks to Wyatt’s tracking her down. They get married so that he can protect her and the baby.
Federal Marshal Wyatt McCabe realizes that CSI Lyla Pearson may be carrying his child. Someone has stolen the embryo Wyatt and his deceased wife Ann stored. Lyla has ended up with the embryo and someone did it on purpose to control Wyatt and Lyla. Someone is orchestrating things between Wyatt and Lyla so Lyla can falsify evidence. Suspects are piling up and there's gunfire everywhere. The accomplice in Jonah Webb's murder needs to keep things quiet. This is the conclusion to the Marshals of Maverick County series and I felt it fell flat. Once again there was too many suspects pointing fingers at each other and all rushing to the ranch or marshals office wanting to talk to Wyatt and Lyla. This book too felt like it was just a copy of the other books in the series with name changes and new characters but pretty much the same plot.
In Fossen’s romantic intrigue novel, U.S. marshal Wyatt McCabe is determined to solve a murder while protecting a woman he’s never met before who just might be carrying his child. To ensure her safety, Wyatt marries the beautiful CSI director and then takes her to his family ranch where his family can assist him in succeeding in his mission. A marriage in name only soon shifts to passion as a killer stalking them moves closer to the home front.
A fast-paced conclusion to The Marshals of Maverick County series.
Wanted the 6th. book in The Marshals Of Maverick county Series and the last book in the series, was a very good book. We found out who killed the orphanage headmaster. Wyatt on of the brothers who lived there is trying to find out who killed him. All the brothers and their adopted dad are suspects. Lyla enters the picture. She is pregnant. The fertility clinic gave her Wyatt's and his dead wives embryo. Wyatt is out to protect her. The bad guys make it onto the ranch. A shootout. Lots of happiness later. A good read.
Lyla Pearson works for the CSI unit, she is also pregnant with a in-vitro baby.An unknown person wants Lyla to change evidence, armed gunman come to her home and she is saved by US Marshal Wyatt McCabe.Wyatt has been keeping an eye on Lyla ever since he has suspected she is carrying his late wifes child. They are committed to keeping the baby safe.Wyatt goes to his family for help. This book is full of twists and turns. There are many characters to keep track of.The story does come together nicely.I enjoyed this book.
Good book, not boring. This writer givens you a lot of suspects. She keeps you guessing. I read book one of this series, then I skipped to the last book of this series. In book 1 of all the brothers, Wyatt intrigued me, the most. And I'm glad I did. The only thing that bothered me about this book, was the ending. I don't think Wyatt would have stayed married to Lyla, if she wasn't carrying his child. He was so obessed with his first wife, Ann. Keeper!
"TOP PICK! Fossen deftly weaves all the trailing lines of the story into a net that drops around the culprit with expertise, and readers are going to be sorry to say goodbye to this family of honorable and sexy lawmen". (RT Book Reviews) rated 4 1/2 stars
Not read the other ones in the group, but enjoyed this one very much. Watt and Lyla didn't start out as even friends, but he ask her to marry him to try to protect her and the baby.
Lots of danger and excitement. Hard to put down when started reading.
