One Hell of a Case-
I loved Book #2. Although I highly recommend reading the first book first, or you will be lost, it's totally worth it! The books aren’t long. I have read quite a few books by this author, and I think that this series is one of her best series (Yes, I’ve said that about another series, but this is one of the top two of her series). Zee David keeps you guessing throughout both books. I love the details that she puts in her books. You can picture the whole thing in your head, like it’s a movie or TV show—the movements of the characters, their expressions, small details like that. It makes such a difference when reading a good book. You can see it all.
This is exactly what a good mystery novel should be. It's like a puzzle; you start putting pieces together as Zee gives them to you, but starting in all different places (like the four corner pieces). And you have to wait until the right piece falls into place until you can start putting it all together. It starts to come together, and then BAM; the pieces don’t fit the way you thought they were supposed to. It's amazing; she gets me every time! I find myself saying “Holy Crap,” pretty much at least once in every chapter.
It's incredible what Betty had to go through. As a child and as an adult. And knowing who killed the Fosters now, so incredibly unexpected. Betty sure did have a crazy life. And what's insane is, she planned a lot of it, from what I understand. Revenge for the family. And then we met Edward. Crazy how he came up in that world, smart. But he’s lucky he didn’t get himself really disappeared. He was never a great guy from time lapses back and forth that David shows us. I love knowing about a character's past. Learning what made them the way they are. Edward is the definition of a straight sociopath narcissist. It's unbelievable that Betty went through all she went through and... Well, I’ll let you find that out when you read this, and you totally should if you love brilliant mysteries.
The ending was great as well, and we all know endings can be tricky for a lot of authors. After everything that so many people have been put through, that ending seemed totally appropriate. I am really hoping that the author makes a third book! It would become first on my TBR list!
