For Eva and her dragon, the war has only just begun…

Eva’s visit home is cut short when Prince Francis arrives with an urgent mission. Her ability to sense Venistrare’s magic – the same ability that led to her saving the prince’s life – could help them find the key to undermining Venistrare’s power. There’s just one her ability to use more than one kind of magic must remain secret.

The prince doesn’t know that Eva is keeping another secret – she shares the same bloodline as the sinister Warlock. If the others find out, there’s no telling what they’ll do. Will they trust in all that she’s done… or will they turn against her?

As the Warlock’s forces gain strength, Destia reels from one defeat to another. Whole villages have been struck down by Venistrare’s dangerous abilities. And Eva faces an impossible choice. She can do as Prince Francis commands and keep her abilities a secret. Or she can embrace her forbidden power, face the Warlock head-on… and risk losing everything.

Warlock’s Heir is an amazing addition to the series. We learn so much about Eva as her true bloodline comes to light. Everything she has feared is now laid bare as she tries to convince her fellow riders and the Prince of her dedication to doing everything in her power to stop the Venistrare. Despite sharing his bloodline she is not evil and may be their only hope.

I can’t wait to see what Eva accomplishes with her new endeavors and I hope to see good things come of what she has chosen to do. I would Aldo love to see her training more fully in her powers as I feel their is more to be revealed in what Eva is capable of. I highly recommend the series!

This is book two of the Dragon Defenders of Destia series and the main characters are Eva Thirsk, now a dragon rider and first year student at Fairspell, with strong earth magic, and her dragon Perrell. She has gone back home to the farm near Flaxton where she was raised to see the people she thinks of as family, for a bit of a break after events in the capital, when news comes in of a large number of refugees from villages closer to the borders with Fantis, to escape whatever has been happening there. Rumours of whole villages being turned to glass raise alarm, especially with Eva knowing that the king and others in the palace in the capital, were themselves turned to glass in an attack. Eva and some others were the ones that stopped the Fantisian wizards from turning everyone in the royal family! Prince Francis, who has taken over since the king is incapacitated, arrives at the farm and wants to know if Eva will join his small team in search of Warlock Venistrare and to stop his dangerous and evil magic spreading. He has also asked her friend Oliver, a water mage, to join them. Eva has been chosen because she can sense Venistrare’s magical signal, but she has to be fairly close to him or some object he has infused with his magic. But she is keeping secrets from all of the team, as none of them know of her ability to reflect magic back onto the user, and also the more shocking tidbit that she is descended from the warlock’s sister Serena’s line! She can harmonise different types of magic, even from other people, and combine them giving her much stronger magic. Only problem is that she hasn’t had much magical training and sometimes her best intentions ends up going haywire and hurting others!

Those who can use more than one type of magi are thought to be dangerous and most have been killed off over the years, or escaped over to Fantis like Venistrare, where magic use and training was more relaxed and allowed. If the team and especially the prince or Oliver find out she can use more than one kind of magic and about her bloodline, she believes they won’t act very well and she could see herself locked up or worse. She had been hoping that her burgeoning friendship with Oliver would become much more, once they both returned to school, but secrets always have a way of coming out, at the worst possible moment! She has already done so much more than anyone ever expected of her, bonding with a pack dragon, having magic and not being part of a wealthy family like Oliver and all other magic users, becoming so much more powerful after being tricked into unlocking the warlock’s prison and so much more. She has had to fight her way to the point she is at now and is determined to use what she has, to save Destia from the forces of their foes and the warlock’s influence. She knows she is probably the only one who might be able to stop him, but the prince isn’t going to allow her to go off alone to face him, and she will have to prove that her way will work without hurting others. Her magic abilities are forbidden in Destia and it will be dangerous for her to show others what she can do.

Eva had just been making inroads into fixing her relationship with Carina, the daughter of the couple who raised her, finally understanding all that Carina had also gone through and their differences when Eva ran away to become a dragon rider a year ago, only then finding out the reality of magic users and the divide between the rich and the poor. Fellow student Winnie is a big help in this story, using her skills to work with the scholars to figure out why the people turned to glass had not reverted back once the warlock or wizards had left, as normal magic spells lose their power after the caster has left, or after a time. But the warlock has been experimenting with dark magic for decades and has stolen magic from so many other magic users, his magical signature and spells are impossible to unravel. Winnie supplies a hint of something that might help Eva to solve this magic and is a great help in the final battle against him. Eva has a lot to overcome in this finale, coming face to face with the mad warlock himself, whose vision for the future is so twisted by madness and a hatred for his own family and any royalty! Her secrets are revealed and those she thought of as friends, suddenly turn against her, when all she has ever wanted to do was be a dragon rider and help protect Destia and its people. A lovely sense of spirit when matters return to her home town, whilst a foe becomes an ally to redeem himself, and Evan must go against those in charge and disobey her orders, knowing she is the only one that can stop the teams of wizards Venistrare has taken over and the warlock himself. So much adventure, but also a sense of getting to know yourself and finding forgiveness. Lots of maturity and a sense of what is right and what she must do, even if she might lose everything and everyone who is important to her and her future. Cracking ending as it builds up to the finale, with loss along the way and lots of things to learn, even at this crucial time. She has come a long way from the farm and being a squire to others, as has her relationship with Perrell. I received an ARC copy of this book form BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

After fighting through a great battle for the Kingdom of Destia, Eva, an Earth Element mage, has taken a well deserved vacation, with her Dragon, Perrell, to visit her sister and her sister's family, on the family farm. Carina, now a widow left alone to fend for her children as well as taking care of the farm, is much older than Eva who was adopted when younger after being left behind by parents that promised to return for her but never did.

With her connection to the Earth Element, Eva is more than handy and welcomed when planting and growing seasons are upon them. After the rest periode, she plans on returning to Fairspell Academy to continue learning and mastering her craft, making her a better soldier in the King's army.

However, her visit is cut short by the arrival of the crowned prince who needs her on his contingent because of her special abilities as well as the fact that the infamous warlock must be found as havoc is being felt across the land with Feltiss wizards attacking any citizen, whether it be child, elderly or woman and turning them to glass like kis father, the king was.

This is without a doubt one of the best books that this reader has had the pleasure of reading. The author uses her gift to virtually transport the reader on an adventure filled with Good and Evil, Love and Hate, Joy and sorrow, Family and camaraderie, adventure and battles and, Magic with Magical Dragons that make this book a page turner deserving a rating higher than the 5 Stars maximum. I highly recommend this book and, time permitting, I will acquire the other books in the trilogy.

The third and final instalment of the Dragon Defenders of Destia is a page-turner from the first page. In the previous books, Eva left her adopted home a year ago to find out about her heritage and, in this book, returns to the family farm. During the last twelve months, she has bonded with a dragon, found her magic, made new friends, discovered her heritage and fought for her country. But for all that, Eva still has doubts as she seems to come up against mistrust and fear of her abilities. The only consistencies in her life are the relationship blossoming with her fellow dragon rider, her friendship with Winnie, and the support from the Prince.

Since the attack on the palace and the Royal Family, the Prince has been the country's Regent. He follows Eva to the farm and asks her to join his personal contingent of dragon riders to try and foil the renegade Warlock's plot to invade and take over Destia.

From here on, Eva plunges into the adventure of her life. There is plenty of action involving both dragons and magic. Suspicion abounds, friends, are lost, and in the midst of all this turmoil, Eva has to try and figure out a way to defeat once and for all her own unclue and to try and undo the evil magic he has visited on her country and its inhabitants.

Great storytelling, with plenty of 'edge-of-the-seat' moments. I spent most of the book with my heart in my mouth, wondering if Eva and Perrell were going to make it. I enjoyed this book immensely. If you are looking for a good read, then this is the book for you.

This is less of a review of this last book and more of a rant about all three. I’ll apologize for that ahead of it. Sorry.

These books had all the pieces that I wanted in this type of story but sadly, it didn’t do any of them well or deeply. We had a slow budding romance, bonded sentient dragons that spoke telepathically, magic (of course), and even what could’ve been a cool school arc. It was all ruined by the simplistic nature of the story and developments and an impatience to move the story forward. Sadly, Perrell seemed to have no real personality or sense of self beyond bolstering, lauding, and loving Eva. And Eva never did spend more than 6 months or so at school and before that she was only in the army for something like a month. And then she gets enhanced position after position (stable hand>dragon stable hand>squire/thwarter of assassins>secret mission accompany, and on) for the sake of advancing the plot. A teaching position was offered to her in the last book…Really? She’s like 17 and experienced but still supposedly uneducated really. The author also has no understanding of any measure involving numbers; be it size, days travelled, length, and aforementioned working timeframes, etc. A 9ft tall dragon is not less than 15ft long which is the length of the length of one of the “large” battle dragons… there are more books after this but the simplistic nature of these seems more meant for children and I won’t be revisiting this author. Had trouble even finishing this last book.

Warlock’s Heir is #3 in the Defenders of Destia series by Ava Richardson following Pack Dragon and Fairspell Academy. Warlock’s Heir picks up right where book #2 leaves off. Ava is working with the Prince of Destia to locate and stop the Warlock that is waging war on their country using their neighboring country to help him. There is action, a touch of romance, good vs evil and friendships strengthened and gained. New characters are introduced and bad guys are given the chance to turn good. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because sometimes the inward reflection or soul searching gets to be a bit much, but that may be because I am a grown adult reading a book meant for younger adults, but I am a sucker for dragons and it definitely doesn’t mean I won’t continue with the series if more is written!

Genre(s): fantasy, female heroine, young adult, dragons, dragonrider, magic
Bad Language: none
Intimate Scenes/Reference: mild, one kiss
Violence: some, none graphic, mostly magical in nature
Substance Abuse: none
Mental Health: anger, revenge, slavery
Addiction: none.

Eva is home and finally feels like she belongs even though they aren't blood, she has learned that you don't have to be related to someone to have them feel like family. This idyll doesn't last long, the Prince is in need of her help. Venistrare is wreaking havoc in Destia and Eva may be the only one to stop him. But will Frances and Oliver continue to trust her when they discover her relation to Venistrare.
Truly a page turner of a book wondering how Eva was going to stop Venistrare and if her budding relationship with Oliver will survive when he discovers her secret. I really became invested in the characters of this book. Has some sadness but a satisfying end.

🐉🐉ONE TUMULTUOUS JOURNEY🐉🐉
Dodging dragons Don! Ava runs the gambit with this heart-pounding, pulse-racing, adrenaline-pumping, page-flipping, tilt-our-world typhoon. Surprising twists and strategic turns abound as the unyielding drama, arresting intrigue, alarming suspense and hair-raising situations mounts. The characters interactions and electrifying surroundings along with engaging ambience and separate attributes adding depth and diversity, transforming into complex personalities. The scenarios are vividly illustrative and graphically descriptive with vibrant portrayals, constructing colorfully realistic scenes so vibrantly detailed, skyrocketing this lil' guy to life brilliantly. Excellent job Ava, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

While I enjoyed this series, the last book felt kinda weak to me. I still found it enjoyable, but mostly because I was already interested in the plot

I expected to see more growth for the characters, especially considering how powerful the foe was. There are some changes, but all in all, it would have make more sense for them to prepare a bit more and evolve.
The atmosphere in itself is okay, I could easily picture the setting and find myself immersed in the book for most parts. However, the pacing was not ideal for me, and there were some parts where I felt kinda bored.
The ending is quite satisfying, but it came a little to fast and felt kinda easy to get to that point

CAWPILE score: 7.57

I found this book to be filled with adventure and a lot of action in fighting for the freedom of Destia. Eva and her dragon Perrell are still trying to find their place in the Destia army and in their own lives in Destia. She is afraid of letting others know of her heritage with the warlock and have them turn against her. Will Oliver still want to be with her once he finds out the truth or will he consider the same as her Uncle in wanting to destroy all of Destia.

I recommend this book as well as the first 2 in the great new series by Ava Richardson.

Warlock’s Heir is the perfect conclusion to the queen of dragon lighters newest trilogy. The story perfectly wraps up the adventures of the main character. The story shows her growing into adulthood learning to hold the large and small challenges that entails. in addition, it has to ask the question of what defines it the family legacy or her own actions. Once again, Ava Richardson has created a perfect coming of age story involved in dragons. It will be interesting to see what her next great story would be now that she has finished Warlock’s Heir.

I loved this action-packed, intriguing, and compelling book! Get comfy, cause once you start this book, it’s difficult to put it down. I love the characters, with Eva being my favorite. She’s hard working, smart, caring, sly, ethical, thinks outside the box and is willing to give her all to protect Destia. The Venistrare warlock has delivered chaos, death and destruction. How can they take him down? This action-packed story is filled with danger, dragons, magic, refugees, war, mages, dragon riding, glass figures, the Prince, Venistrare warlock, heritage, shards, Fairspell academy, secrets, and heroes!

This book is a third in the series, and I found that it was satisfying in that it covered all things started in the other books with a definite ending. However it does basically set it up to where the author could start a new series from this one. The part that made me give it four instead of five stars is the repetition of the story from the previous books. I understand the author was probably trying to remind the reader of the storyline but as I read them one after another I found that to be a bit tedious. Still a satisfying YA story with a budding romance that could be part of the next series.

While visiting her family, Eva is summoned to Scaldrift camp, where she first began her journey to become a dragon rider. She learns that she is going to be a part of Prince Francis' team as they search for the Venestrare warlock and try to stop him before he destroys Destria and takes more lives! Along the way, Eva and her friends encounter challenges, lose friends, and gain allies. A wonderful book in this series!.

As usual this was a great character book and fast paced action. As things come to a head, with the Prince's and other friends help Ava is able to overcome the problems of being heir to Venistrare's power. Freeing the country and ancestors of the evil he has brought to the nation. I love Ava Richarson's book and the pace and world building stories.

Such a great way to end this trilogy!

The first chapters are a little bit slow but they help you to build up all the feelings for what's coming next. By the middle of the book I was already screaming because of all the things poor Eva is going through... but everything is worth for that ending.

I know this is the end of a trilogy... but, if there are more books set in Destia or Fantis I would totally read them. If Eva and her friends are part of it... that would be nice too.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. This is book 3 in the series and is the finale. All questions raised in the series were answered. I really enjoyed it and was gripped from start to finish. The author did a fantastic job with this book. Fans won't be disappointed. Least I wasn't. Thanks again to the author for this opportunity

A good ending to a very interesting series. With so much action, it sometimes got a little confusing, but it kept me intrigued the whole way. It’s always a shame when some good people are harmed, and at times, that happens, but it is a relief when the evil antagonists get what they deserved, and the heroes reap the rewards, and Eva does.

Eva and her dragon Perrell are sidelined by the prince due to her growing powers and connection to the warlock. Amidst this, Eva learns who her true friends and family are and that magic in itself is not bad but how one uses it. Well written, action packed. The end was wrapped up faster than I expected but great writing overall. This was a wonderful series. 5/5 stars

A Magical Great Escape!

I very much enjoyed this trilogy. The plot was unique with plenty of dragons, magic, heroes, winners and losers! Plan on getting not much done as these books are near hard to put down. Thank you, Ava Richardson, for writing "clean" books full of magic and adventure.

Dragons and Magic

Ava's dragon stories are so likable, the characters easy to.identify with and of course who wouldn't want to have a dragon companion. Although written for Y A audience even an old woman like myself can enjoy a good, clean fantasy romp!

A fitting end to the Dragon Defenders of Destia Part I series. I especially appreciate that this book is more of a regular fantasy book full of some great world building with memorable characters. It was refreshing to read a fantasy were romance isn’t the driving force in the story.
