The Descriers

Rate this book
Powerful beings live among us. They have witnessed our past, and they can see the possibilities for our future.

SPARROW knows THEO is a harsh judge of people. It has always been that way. Sparrow has never liked it, but it has made sense before. Something is changing. As they travel together, stepping into and around the lives of everyday people, Theo's interactions with them verge on cruelty.

As their travels take them to a dwindling Connecticut town, Sparrow understands two things; that he can't match Theo's power, and that someone will have to attempt to change him.

The Descriers is a story about their role in the world, how they shape our lives, and how they change one another. It explores a duel between hope and fate, that blends genres, and spans centuries and continents.

Hi, I'm Jim. I'm a writer, a geek, an uncle, and I once served on a jury. I wouldn't ordinarily mention that, but I've recently accepted that it's the closest I'll ever come to being Batman.

I have a handful of short stories floating around in various journals, magazines, and anthologies. Most of those are literary. I also have some poems out in the world, but most of my long-form work leans into science fiction, urban fantasy, and genre-bending narratives. You can find me on Instagram @jimplath , with a linktree in my bio to some of my work, including a couple short stories, and a Spotify recording of me reading a zine I wrote titled Roleing: Why Wheelchairs Matter in Tabletop Role-playing Games (Oh, yeah, I use a wheelchair, btw). If you're inclined to reach out, don't hesitate. I'm friendly, and almost never bite anyone.
