→Saved by Fae← Author: Layla K. Wood Genre: Fantasy >> forbidden soulmate romance Age Rating: 10+ Spice: 0🌶/5 Content Warnings: a little bit of blood/violence Will I read more books by this author if they have any? Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
~Thoughts~ So, this started out good, I liked the first chapter. But when the mate thing got revealed in the second chapter, I hate to say it, but the book lost half a star… Only because I like tension, and for me, the right away, *boom* they’re mates was a bit disappointing. It was super cute though, even if it was fast-paced. I don’t blame the author though, it *is* a short story, but it was still, well, something I didn’t enjoy. Their relationship though was SO STINKIN CUTE I couldn’t stop smiling at their banter. It was really well done and I enjoyed it, the writing flowed well and was so easy to read. But the plot twist left me reeling y’all>>>>>>> But THEN THE SECOND PLOT TWIST THAT FIXED THE FIRST PLOT TWIST WAS SOOOOO GOOD

I looked up and saw the man who had rescued me clearly for the first time. He had dark, wavy black hair that rested just above his shoulders. His dark pink lips were a sharp contrast against his flawless pale skin. And both his eyes were bright and shimmering; one was blue and the other green.
⤹Errol⤸
The scent of Jasmine and green tea I had been chasing was emanating from her. With her in my arms, I knew who she was, and my need to help her grew stronger. She was my mate.
“I was really hoping she wasn’t venomous,” I slurred as my vision faded, and I slumped down on the floor.
I think i got 73% through it but dnf (did not finish). I powered through the slow plot, i tried to like the lack luster characters, i forgave the strangeness of a fae being able to lie (my little experience w fae has taught me that they cant lie), i dealt with the strange mate bond that basically did nothing until chaos hit, but by then there was the strange female fae and female human bond character and that is where i draw the line. You are telling me centuries ago that they would have accepted that? Ya… no. I’m sorry but that is where i gotta give up reading the book. I’m sorry.
Saved by a Fae by Layla K. Wood is a fast-paced romantic fantasy that grabs your attention from the opening scene and doesn't let go. With a high-stakes blend of danger, mystery, and forbidden attraction, this book delivers a compelling fae-human dynamic that will satisfy fans of steamy fantasy romance and action-driven plots.
The story kicks off with immediate tension, introducing a heroine thrust into a deadly situation that forces her to rely on a fae stranger—one who is equal parts dangerous, mysterious, and magnetic. The chemistry between the main characters is intense from the start, but it evolves with surprising emotional depth, making their connection feel earned rather than rushed.
Wood does a great job creating an engaging and immersive fae world, laced with danger and political undertones that hint at a broader conflict beyond just the central romance. The pacing is snappy, the dialogue sharp, and the banter between characters brings both levity and charm to the darker undertones of the plot.
While the book is undeniably entertaining, there are moments where it leans heavily on genre tropes—particularly the "fated mate/protector" dynamic—which, while enjoyable, may feel familiar to seasoned readers of fae romance. A bit more world-building or character backstory could have added more depth to the stakes and motivations, especially for secondary characters who seem intriguing but underdeveloped.
That said, Saved by a Fae hits the sweet spot for readers looking for an addictive blend of fantasy and romance. It's sexy, suspenseful, and full of that irresistible tension between danger and desire.
Final Verdict: Layla K. Wood delivers a fun, seductive read with just enough edge to keep you hooked. Perfect for fans of quick-paced fantasy romance with protective fae males, fierce heroines, and a spark of danger. A solid four-star adventure that leaves you curious for more.
Lottie, a human, has bought a house near the woods where she plans to live with her dog.
She decides that her unpacking is well underway and wants to explore, a little bit, with her dog. However, when she calls her dog, he does not respond to her call. She sets off to find him and, as she nears the lake, a mysterious figure that she takes for a woman gets out of the water. Once out, she murmurs something and attacks Lottie.
Elaith and her brother Errol are two Fae Guardians who patrol the area and make certain that no Unseelie Faes are up to no good while interacting with humans. As they patrol, they come upon the scene where Lottie is attacked and Errol renders assistance by shooting arrows at the Unseelie fae attacking.
I will stop here as I don't want to give the plot away.
The author has written this very good story using her special gift in mixing curiosity, magic, inter realm cooperation, family values, hate and love to create a very well thought of plot filled with mind struggling events, twists and turns and a climatic finish that leaves the reader wondering if there is to be a sequel. I highly recommend this book and rate it 5 Stars
I really enjoyed this book, and I found myself fighting along with Lottie and Errol for the survival of his kind with being an Eleven. Lottie had chosen to buy a home for her and her dog, but she did not know why it was so cheap with all the woods that her dog could run freely as there were no neighbors close, but it had gotten to be dusk, and her dog was not answering her. As she searched for him, she heard the tingle of his tags, but then she heard splashing in the river and a ten-foot-tall monster attacked her. I loved that Errol and his twin sister took turns guarding the realm where humans lived, they were Guardians and they protected them from the Unseelies who would eat them. Once Erroll heard a woman scream, he took off to defend her unknowing that she was his mate. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!
This is a dual POV, no spice romance with a HEA. Lottie (braver than me buying an old house by the woods alone other than her dog) moves into a house that the owners wanted to sell immediately. While taking her dog out he doesn't respond and she searches and finds him with a thorn in his paw (don't worry he's okay) where there's a 'woman' in the stream. It's actually Fae and attacks her, leaving one of the Guardians, Errol, to find her badly injured and finds out she's his mate. The attacks continue and Lottie is in danger. It's a quick read that I wanted more of, but good. A nice little twist at the end that is resolved.
I really enjoyed this book, it was a quick read but it did skip corners, we was straight in to the action and I didn't even realise I'd got to the end of the book. I would of love their to have been more, as I was so wrap up in this book and the twist near the end, I never saw that coming and another twist right at the end to finish it off. I mark it down as I would have like it to have gone it to a little more depth and detail at the end, it was over to quickly considering the build up (you'll understand what I mean when you get there) but all in all it was a great read, would highly recommend checking it out.
I...don't do romance. But this book was short, and (I thought) was going to be a nice light hearted romance before I continued my dystopian spree...and wow was I wrong. The characters were all so well written (especially given the length) and the descriptions were amazing. I was a little confused and constantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The ending was very satisfying, and overall definitely worth the read.
This can’t be happening. Lottie has just moved into her house when she finds a stranger in the woods. Unfortunately the thing that comes out of the water isn’t human and before she can run it catches her. Luckily two elves are patrolling the woods and they are able to save her. Errol the elf knows that he can’t leave her there but his decision will bring danger to all. Can he save Lottie from the evil that wants her? Do they belong together? A good read. Thank you Layla for the copy
This was such a fun and magical start to the series. I loved the mix of danger, hidden identity, and slow-burn fae romance. Lottie being thrown into this secret world and then finding out who she really is had me totally hooked. Errol was the perfect protective but mysterious fae, and their connection felt really natural. If you’re into fae, forgotten magic, and twisty secrets, this one’s definitely worth the read.
This was a cute story. There was a twist near the end that I didn’t see coming. The fight scene near the end could’ve had more description. It was over too quickly. I also would’ve liked a little more interaction between the two main characters in regards to the romance. Other than that, it was a quick, clean read.
Loved it! this book was so fun from beginning to end, fast read, a fast-paced short story with surprising twist near the end, difficult to put down. and I really enjoyed the world building and characterizations. recommended! I received a free copy via Bookfunnel and am voluntary leaving my honest review
I liked it and than when it was getting good it ended. I personally would like a longer story than it ended when it just gets going. The action parts were there but not easy to follow and enjoy. I felt no pull about them being mates or feel that they had a connection. Maybe it is better it was short, I might not of finished if it was longer.
This reads like a nice first attempt at writing a novel. The story line is simple, with rather a lot of holes, but it reads smoothly. The characters are not fleshed out. It feels a bit like walking into the middle of a movie. And there's quite a bit of [insert miracle here] to move the plot from point A to B.
I thought this story was a good read. Fast paced with a surprise or two it works well as a intro to the series and the characters in the woods. Plus had to see what was special with Lottie and how it would all play out and would she get a happy ending. Lots of action and some drama.
The story was good. Different than what I usually read, but not disappointed. Some parts felt slow, but overall it has a good story. It was an easy, quick read which was helpful in watching little ones.
It was a cute short story. A human girl meets fae boy. It was fast paced and the twist near the end had my jaw dropping. There could have been a little more detail throughout the book but overall was a good short read.
This novella is the prequel to the Fae of Hazel Woods series. It is a very fast read. While there’s not a lot of “meat” here, there was enough to pique my interest to want to read the series. I already downloaded Book 1 to my Kindle.
The interesting setting here is some fae that were in the human realm are now stuck here as all the portals to the fae realm have been shut and there’s no way home for them. They do have limited magic but cannot fully access it without a connection to the fae lands. The seelie fae have guardians that protect the humans from the unseelie fae, which are basically massive assholes. Our MMC Errol, is one such guardian.
As I said it was a quick read, so I didn’t get a real good connection to the characters. I think it was really an entrée to this society and lightly sets the stage for the books to come.
This was an intriguing read. A very interesting take on the Fae--cool worldbuilding. There were a few unexpected twists that delighted me. Super fast read. Finished it in a day.
This was really great paced book, had enough fantasy and was really action packed! Absolutely loved this book! And I may have a new book boyfriend, Errol 😍
The pacing felt off like it was too fast and I didn't feel anything between the two, no tension or chemistry or anything which made the climax kinda fall flat for me. It was fine though. It was fae
