The journey to becoming a physician is not an easy one. The academic rigor, the long hours spent studying, and the pressure to perform can take a toll on even the most passionate students. This book chronicles the stories of individuals who have pursued non-traditional paths to medicine. The authors, Evan George and Priya Arunachalam, put together these interviews and tips for those considering a career in medicine during their own time as medical students.
Evan and Priya were part of the inaugural class of the Texas A&M School of Engineering Medicine (EnMed). EnMed is a unique 4-year dual degree program (MD/MEng) with integrated curriculum that prepares students for a career in medicine while providing them the resources to innovate in medicine. The 20 interviews in this book highlight some of their classmates in addition to medical students across the country who have overcome various challenges, switched careers, or who bring a new perspective to the field. The purpose of this book is to inspire readers who are doubtful of their ability to pursue a career in medicine to take the leap.
