Catching killers and solving murders for those who have passed away is sort of my thing. Is it fun? No. Have I almost died? Multiple times.
I'm not sure why I've been predestined to be a medium to the traumatically deceased but I have. I’m used to it by now. At least, I thought I was. Until this afternoon. A new spirit appeared to me, and this one is different. This one is personal.
This one is Mike. My boyfriend. Well, I mean, technically we're on a relationship pause, but we don't need to get into that right now. Mike isn’t totally dead, but he’s not totally alive either. He’s been attacked, but no one has located him yet. We have to find him before his attacker realizes the job's not finished yet.
It’s a race against time. A race I will win—or die trying.

I love these characters so much. Too many emotions are racing through my head after finishing. I'm laughing. I'm crying. I'm screaming in soul-sucking pain and heartbreak. Oftentimes all at once. This book was fantastic, cathartic, spirited and so worth the wait. It hit on an emotional level that was a balm to some of the ridiculousness of the world from the last few years. Thank you to Erin Huss for sharing your soul with us. I hope this book was as therapeutic to write as it was to read.
This one had me teary-eyed for a time there. Unbelievable! I didn’t think this series was the kind to make me feel anything but anxiety, but I was wrong.
There was a lot to unpack in this one, including Zoe and Mike’s break-up… their “pause”? Look, just think of the famous line from Friends, “We were on a break!” Ok, that’s not totally accurate, because of what Ross did to cause him to say that line to Rachel is not the same as what Zoe and Mike did. But anyway…
Things that occurred:
Mike dies, Zoe is a fugitive, A 12-year-old lies to her ailing father, Luna creates thunder storms, Zoe gets angry and kills a man, A dark spirit saves a life, Zoe’s dad passes out on a picnic table, Zoe’s mom is still in denial about Zoe’s abilities, Zoe loses her powers… errrr…. I mean her gifts, Someone threatens Zoe with a gun pointed at her. Zoe doesn’t react because she simply doesn’t care. Jose makes a comeback, A new character is introduced.
No animals were harmed in the writing of this book. 🐕 🐿️
It was a quick read. Less than 200 pages. It didn't feel that short. Maybe it was because past events are mentioned but not rehashed. Which is the way I prefer authors to handle past books.
It caught me off guard with the direction one of the storylines was taking, which made me realize I wasn't trying to figure everything out. A sign that I'm just enjoying the book and I'm drawn in.
Part of the resolution was a little convenient but I get it.
I recommend the series but start at the beginning!
Be sure to read the author's note at the end!
Would I read again? Yes.
Note to the author: have you heard of Victoria Laurie?
I really enjoy this series. It combines humor with paranormal experiences, detective work and a side of romance. It is just fun to read. I love the quirky characters in this little town. This is Medium had some interesting plot twists to keep the reader on its toes. The humor made me laugh and there were sad moments too. And I was surprised by the resolve. Didn't really go how I expected it to.
Sex: no Language: a little Violence: yes *I received a complimentary ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I think the moral of this story is don't jump to conclusions. Or maybe don't try to solve a mystery while on the lam. In any case, Zoe and Mike are in an incredibly difficult situation with people all around them trying to kill them both. Add unscrupulous law men, unscrupulous relatives, and townspeople putting their 2¢ in, and the pressure really mounts on Zoe to figure everything out! By far the most intense book in this series. Filled with excitement, uncertainty, and determination! Fantastic!!
I was dying to learn what happened next with Mike and Zoe and this book does not disappoint. It's fast paced, it has to be because we're racing to find Mike before it's too late and he dies. In usual Zoe-mania she finds help and all seems to be solved but no, Mike being Mike with a good heart and visions of the future sees things differently. The end nearly killed me!
It has definitely been a while since we heard from Zoe and Mike and all the mishaps that happen in Fernn Valley. Every page had my heart racing faster hoping Zoe finds Mike in time. I thought I had the culprit figured out....I was wrong! The twists and turns will keep you wanting more! I can't wait to see what happens to them next!
I enjoy this series a lot they are funny, qurki, and this one made me cry. All in all, they are fun to read. I am in to mediumship and work with a group once a month to practice our intuition and honing our gifts. Great job looking toward the next one. Do you think it will come out in audio?
I have read every book in this series and this is my favorite one. I was laughing and sobbing with this book. I love Zoe and Mike. It was a great story line to their romance. I cannot wait until the next chapter of this series. I’m looking forward to her new baby sister’s story!
I loved catching up with Zoe, Mike, Brian and the rest of the gang. Zoe and Mike have been on a pause so Zoe doesn’t know what’s going on with him. What she finds out breaks her heart and involves her with more murder and mayhem. I hope for another book in the series soon.
Excuse me Ms. Huss but, how dare you? You let me believe that an important and valued member of Fernn Valley would be no more. I sat in bed at 2am CRYING while I anxiously read the fate of a favorite character. How dare you make me care so deeply for an imaginary person?! You better believe I am telling people about this nonsense! And I WILL be sure to encourage my family and friends to be as addicted to this town and these characters as I am. 😊
After everything that happens, I don’t blame Zoe for making the decision she did about her powers. I get it. It wasn’t the right decision for her, but I do understand why. I think things worked out perfectly and I am very happy for her. I love this series so much and look forward to more!
I feel like my soul literally left my body a few different times while reading this book! I am so emotionally invested in Zoe and Mike's story, and this one was an absolute 5 star emotional rollercoaster! Worth the wait!
Another great read from Author Erin Huss. I really enjoy this series, and this installment was the best yet. If you like paranormal mysteries and like to be kept guessing then this is the book for you. There is mystery, humor, romance, and everything in between.
I only read the book because I thought I would see a change in the relationship between Brian and Zoe. I am so disappointed in the ending because I firmly believe that Brian is better for Zoe. Brian always looks out for her and has her back.
