Gory good time

I quite enjoyed this book. Hooked me from the start and didn't let up until the end. Nice fast paced read full of creepy gory kills.

Tommy was raised by an abusive father and has been living with him his whole life and he decides it’s time to get revenge on not only his dad, but the whole town. This reminded me of a mix between Halloween (the movie) and Slender-man and for how short it was, there was a lot packed into it. I also loved how heavily Halloween-themed it was. A lot of books that are advertised as Halloween-themed always have me forgetting half-way through that the book I’m reading takes place around Halloween. Definitely recommend if you enjoyed Slenderman or Halloween!

For how short it is, Blockhead has a lot of blood! There aren't a lot of kills, but each one is over-the-top in classic horror fashion

Tommy's mom dies when he's 13 and he's left with his abusive father. Every October since, he's visited by a mysterious friend, but this year is going to he different. This year, they're going to have some fun!

Tommy as a whole felt a little flat to me. I completely understood his vendetta against his dad, but I'm not really sure what he had against the rest of the town. I'm also a little confused on how old he's supposed to be. I thought maybe he was still a kid, or maybe the lower side of teenager, but if he and Charlie graduated together then that would make him 20ish?

I think this one could've benefited from a little more length. That way the characters could be fleshed out more and the plot a little more defined as far as why Tommy decides to do what he does.

All in all, though, I enjoyed how much the author leaned into Halloween, but the whole blockhead as an insult felt a little hokey to me. This would be a good read for anyone looking for a short read in spooky season.
