Slow: Embracing the Joy of a Slower, Simpler Life

Rate this book
The Philosophy of Simple Living explores the idea of slow living to find happiness by stepping away from the never-ending demands to constantly succeed and acquire more and more. It’s easy to become caught up in frantically wanting, buying, and upgrading the things in your life. Constantly striving, we feel exhausted and deprived in the midst of great abundance. The philosophy of The Philosophy of Simple Living is about finding the freedom to be less perfect and taking time to enjoy the pure joys of a walk in the forest, sharing laughter with family, a personal moment of gratitude. Living a meaningful life that has connection, joy and beauty can be found in every moment. Slow, sweet living honors living with appreciation and reverence, and respects daily life as an inherently awe-inspiring and sacred experience. In a slower life we derive inspiration from meaningful conversations and fleeting daily encounters alike. We become mindful of what we are striving for in this life. Indeed, by living daily life more slowly, we come to understand what matters most to us – reconnecting with peace and joy.

A sweet little book filled with cutesy illustrations along with tips and affirmations for living a slower, more present life. Much of it seems like common sense but the overarching messages that we should try to make time to appreciate the people and simple things that bring us joy in our lives are good ones. Good for anyone who has has trouble giving themselves permission to disengage from work, devices or other pressures.

the concept is good
I often feel like I WANT to lead a slower & simpler life
but I'm too impatient

didn't even have the patience to read it - just flicked through feeling like 'didn't she already say this????"

this is the first book i have ever read that expresses exactly the way i think. i having been living a slow life due to a sudden turn of illness since 2021, and this book displays how my way of life is valid and real. i don’t wish forced slowing down on anyone, but i do wish that people could find ways to live a slow life because i have been viewing life beautifully and more intently ever since my eyes have been truly opened. everyone should read this book at least once in their life, but even more honestly. it only took me 2 days. <3

A beautifully illustrated book about slowing down. I had two strokes this year which were caused,at least in part, by stress. I have been putting a lot of effort into really changing the way I approach life and this book has been really helpful. I especially like the affirmations and prayers (which read as secular so they work as intentions even if like me you’re not religious) that accompany each chapter. I believe in the power of setting intention and this book is very helpful in doing that.
