Every volume has gotten better and better. A great emotional story leads to awesome character development/creation and bonds between the characters. A much darker emotionally charged volume. I can't wait for the next volume.

I probably shouldn't enjoy this as much as I do. I love where the story is heading, and the references to other Batman comics make it even better.
I ended up reading some chapters multiple times, wishing they were longer since they always end so quickly.
This is the best volume yet, but I fear that the story will slack off after this one.

“You could have become a symbol of hope for people…”

“I lost all the hope I had that night.”

“If that’s true, the future you’re bringing is destruction. Someone who’s lost hope can’t save anyone…let alone this city.”

Very fast read. Still entertaining, but this Volume really only focused on two things:
1) Bruce gets a wakeup call from Alfred about how Thomas and Martha always believed in the best of the city and would have wanted him to be a symbol of hope, not anger and rage.
2) Putting all the clues together, Jason/Joker, helps Dick Grayson to understand his Uncle Sam is actually Joe Chill and the murderer of both the Waynes and the Graysons. Tracking down the killer, who is posing as Red Hood (original huge "bullet" head version), Jason gets in way over his head and gets taken by Joe/Sam, who kills him violently and takes his moniker of the Joker, recreating "Death in the Family".

Really looking to seeing this continue, but I think it's time to bring in Barbara or Selina, or even a different villain.
Strong recommend.

I couldn't believe it! I've been meaning to get "A death in the family" for a while, and I got a simplified version in this one. It's one of my favorite stories because Jason Todd is among my favorite bat family characters. I am loving the use and rearrangement of tropes and characters. It has a lot of elements that are recognizable from Batman history. This is definitely worth and I don't regret getting them.
Plus, Bruce and Jason are portrayed so handsomely, and that node to Nightwing was great. And the first costume that the joker wore! Uff, this is enjoyable for a fan of you read it with an open mind.

This feels like a true story. When things happen, it feels like they have weight. It feels a different from normal superhero comic where events and characters are changed or ignored at the writer/publisher's whim.

Artwork excels at whatever it needs to. Action, backgrounds, characters, all are rendered strikingly while taking full advantage of the black-and-white format.

After this volume, I am even more convinced this (even more so than Absolute Batman) is just playing around with the Bat mythos for the sake of playing around. We keep getting promised this plot about mechs and AI, but instead most of the story is devoted to playing musical chairs with the traditional Batman characters and their identities.

Very quick read, but still an interesting one. I love seeing where this world tweaks things in this Batman story. Intriguing Elseworlds style story that homages some Batman history moments in a neat way.

3.5 estrellas. Este último volúmen mejoró bastante la historia, y ese origen que le dieron a Jason, ufff. De haber sido más larga la historia, tendría una mejor calificación. Además quedó todo muy abierto, y creo que ya no tendrá continuación, lo cual es muy triste

Still unsure where this story is headed. Seems to take a long time for things to happen. Still I'm curious how this reconfigured series winds up. I mean, you'd never expect Jason Todd to be the Joker in this iteration.

This was a good volume. Batman was beginning to come out of his shell and put his faith in others and vice versa. Dick is coming into his own heroic side. And then the shoe drops.... hard times for the Dark Knight.

Another solid entry to this manga retelling of Batman. All the well known beats are here but the writer is able to make them more unique to his interpretation.

The best volume so far. The story is in full gear, the narrative turns are both unexpected and clearly inspired by classic stories, and it ends on an interesting cliffhanger.

This fixed a lot of the issues I had with the previous two volumes, particularly with their portrayal of Evil Joker. I do not like the idea of Joker having an origin story. I think it takes away from the mystique of what is otherwise often a very one-note character. They manage to weave in this idea while also giving him a sort of “origin” that ties him to the main cast pretty beautifully.
Dick’s story is also great in this. It mixes a lot of the classic origin with fun modern touches. I like the focus on him wanting to become a detective from the beginning! Very Tim, but it fits this story well. I also like the young Dick Grayson attitude. Essential stuff.
Jason is the one character I remain unsure about, especially because of how this volume ends. I’m all about big changes to characters for alt universes, but I do like those changes to still somehow explore who the character is at his core. This sometimes felt like just using the name to use it, and then to justify what happens at the end and give it more impact.
Despite this, the dynamic between Bruce and Jason finally hits its stride in this volume. I really enjoyed the evolution of their partnership, and the compromises they both made to make it work. This Bruce was very much in need of an ally and friend, especially as they seem to portray Bruce and Jim’s dynamic as pretty strictly professional. I’m very much looking forward to Bruce meeting Dick.
I felt like the Justice Buster/Robin mystery spins its wheels a little too much. There’s one scene where we see the robot lurking above the city. I would’ve liked a few more moments like this peppered throughout the volume to tease the readers and give some clues as to what’s really going on behind the scenes.
The art is, as always, gorgeous, especially the scenes with Evil Joker. The scene in the restaurant and the finale are particular standouts. The artist also does a great job of adding a sort of warmth to Bruce that we haven’t really seen from this version yet. It’s both the most heartwarming and most chilling volume, which helps the ending scene to pack a big punch.

This series was a slow burn for me, a slow burn I was enjoying but that ending, despite seeing it coming (the chapter heading is a dead give away) it was still so good!!!
