They call him Gargoyle. He's U.S. Navy Reserve Lieutenant Commander James Robert “Bob” Morgan. A past special mission cost him an eye; now, he's a CIA analyst working at Langley.
His life is quiet. Until it isn't.
Somebody is supplying heavy weapons to insurgents in Mali, and Allied counter-terrorist assets are the target. When Morgan's close friend is killed in an ambush, he volunteers to find the source of the weapons and stop the atrocities before more American and Allied lives are lost.
But Morgan isn’t working alone. With the aid of an advanced prosthetic eye, he takes to the field with the best of the best. A lovely MI-6 operative, a motley crew of hard-core naval special operators, and the deadliest gadgets the CIA can produce. The trail of intrigue and deception leads to a charismatic CEO and his beautiful daughter, who sit at the top end of a global criminal organization.
Not even Morgan is prepared for the scope of their ultimate goal, which will reshape the world order if he can’t stop them.
This was book 1 of a trilogy. If you are a fan of military novels, then this trilogy is for you!
I found the storyline very interesting and it moved at a quick pace. However, there was a lot of military terminology. A lot. For me personally this had me skipping over some of the descriptions of aircraft, weapons, ships, etc. but it didn’t detract from the story itself. I am assuming that books 2 and 3 will be similar in descriptives.
I did find all of the movie, music, and 80s references funny even though there were some that I didn’t get.
Ok, first if u admired Ian Fleming's James Bond books/movies u'll like this read; why, cause the main character is a modern James Bond. Yeah I enjoyed this book, and the author is a pretty good wordsmith. Worth ur time and $$. Looking forward to sequels.
This story follows U.S. Navy Reserve Lieutenant Commander James Robert "Bob" Morgan callsign “Gargoyle.” A past mission cost him an eye and now he works as a CIA analyst living a quiet life until a friend is killed in an ambush tied to a dangerous arms-smuggling operation. Learning that heavy weapons are being funneled to insurgents in Mali, Morgan volunteers to track down the source. With a high-tech prosthetic eye, he assembles a team including a MI6 operative and naval special operators, and using gadgetry and covert ops dives into a web of intrigue. Their investigation leads to a charismatic CEO and his daughter, leaders of a global criminal organization whose plan if left unchecked could upend world order.
Really good read. Full of non-stop action. Some mystery and intrigue. Unpredictable. Not too over-the-top. Likable characters with good character development. Detailed but not overloaded with unnecessary minutiae. Takes place in several countries and oceans around the globe. Would give it a 5-star rating if it wasn't for the overtly glaring editorial errors, including numerous misspelled words, grammatical errors, and poor sentence structure. Hopefully these would be better proofread for the next book in the series of which I look forward to reading.
If you're a vet & miss military jargon, this might entertain you. But after reading 60% of it, I'd had enough & skipped to the end & put it to rest. It's full of numbers, dozens of military equipment & weapons names, department & agency abbreviations, initials, countless rank names of all service branches etc etc. Was too slow & redundant! Half of the words are from the military so was constantly looking up definitions. Basic story is fine but it takes forever to get from one event to the next. Grateful for all service members, but not sure the vets in my family would have read this whole thing.
what i enjoy greatly, apart from a fantastic storyline, is learning facts i was unaware of. this great book combines both action and information. our intrepid hero not only wows us with his combat skills but also dazzles us with his know how. there is a fine line between justice and vigilantism. i really had to think about this one so you be the judge.
Firstly I should thank the author for his service to his country.
Unfortunately, I disliked the protagonist with a passion. I only finished the book for my Goodreads challenge. Poor Ian Fleming must be turning in his grave at this novel.
Clearly the author just wanted to tell people about the cars and guns he likes.
As a female I found his prose about the women in the story misogynistic.
I think it's clear to say I will sadly not be completing the trilogy.
An excellent introduction to Gargoyle. A well developed plot that has strong character development. A page turner that is hard to put down. The amount of detail is unprecedented when the author describes the military equipment. An excellent book that is a must for all military action thriller readers.
Robert Adamcik did not disappoint! This book was fast-paced, an occasional hint at humor, but totally action-packed. Read til four in the morning because I just couldn’t put it down. I love woman who know how and when to use their Krav Maga training… Thank you for a terrific woven story, it would make an awesome movie.
Book 1 was a fun read and had a few errors throughout. The characters and plot are well developed and have a few good twists to it. Some of the information is a bit much, with over-explaining weapons etc. it's great knowledge, but is a bit much sometimes. I liked the book and look forward to the next one.
This is truly a Rip-Roaring story with fabulous characters and locations, an intricate and exciting plot, and plenty of action and gunfire, all enhanced by a really special romance. Bravo!!!
This book was a fast read that was entertaining but very formulaic. Characters are very stereotypical and there’s not much backstory or development. Most annoying is the use of the word smirk or smirking to decribe the main character a total of 38 times, come on!
An excellent story full of interesting facts. Difficult book to put down. Recommend this book to all who like fact interwoven with high action fiction.
