I knew trying to make a fresh start on Marbella Island would mean reinventing myself. I'm only here while I work my way up to my dream role in a major motion picture in Hollywood. Which explains why I took a role playing a mermaid in the island production of In So Deep . What I didn't count on? Ben. The charmer who just took a job as a water sports instructor.
Everyone loves Ben. Everyone but me.
Sure, when I saw him step off the ferry on his first day, I thought he was gorgeous. His mussed hair--light brown with blond highlights, those brown eyes that are deceptively kind, the way his chiseled jawline makes him look so manly, but then his face still holds a boyish charm.
And then he opened his mouth and laid the cheesiest line on me. Every red flag and warning bell sounded in my Steer clear of the player.
Ben is like a sea otter, all cute and playful, until he turns and charges you. Haven't you ever heard of a sea otter attack? Well, I'm sure it's a thing. And I'm not getting close enough to test that theory. Close to sea otters, I might. Close to Ben, no thank you. And now, Ben seems to be everywhere I go. He's at the coffee shop when I get my morning latte. He's the one at the rental shack when I take a kayak out to visit the locals on the north side of the island ... and now, he's going to be the male lead in the play I'm in.
The pirate to my mermaid. I am determined to keep a safe distance from Ben, even if he's determined to keep trying to prove he's not as dangerous as I think he is.
Ben is like an adorable golden retriever puppy. He's always happy. Always looking to make people smile and feel good about themselves. And then he meets Summer who is not at all impressed by his good looks and charms (for reasons). I really loved how Ben pursued her and once her walls started cracking, it was so sweet. And of course, this book has Ms. Scott's trademark humor and compelling side characters.
I think I might have a hint at who will be in book three and I hope I'm right!
A Fish Out Of Water by Savannah Scott - 3.5 Stars rounded up to 4 on Goodreads (Book 2 in the Love Trippin' Series)
What a cute, enemies to lovers rom-com! This is book 2 in the Love Trippin' series but can be read as a standalone. In this one, we are back on Marbella Island in California and Summer is making a fresh start for herself there. Ben met her at the end of book 1 and now in book 2, we see their banter back and forth as "enemies to lovers". He is a red flag for her because he is too charming and comes off as a player - her backstory explains why she is so leery, which you learn about in the story as it goes along. She is a mermaid in a play, trying to get her acting career on the map, and now Ben has to be the lead as her "pirate love interest" in the play. How is this going to go?!
Overall, I had so much fun reading this. I laughed and laughed as I usually do in Savannah's books! I loved the beach details and setting and seeing characters from book 1 was great.
My only critiques are the book was a bit too long for me personally and I didn't love the way things ended with her Dad, but truly enjoyed the book and looking forward to book 3!
Ahhhhh. Ben and Summer, where do I start? After being blindsided by a major charmer in her life Summer has lost her trust in men. Particularly those as charming and charismatic as Ben. Unfortunately for her he’s smitten.
She tries her hardest to drive him away, but he only becomes more determined to win her heart.
Ben doesn’t give up. “I approach the table where Summer is sitting like a man walking on the African Savannah without a gun. I’m likely to get trampled by wildebeests or eaten by a lion, but I’m out here anyway.”
Then he finally thinks he has a chance of at least being her friend, but it doesn’t last. “And then we kissed. Now the idea of only being friends is out the window, down the street, and heading on a boat to China.”
Nothing makes him happier than finally breaking down her barriers. “It’s stunning when her face lights up, especially because she’s not a typically smiley person. Getting her to let loose is like winning the lottery and not having to pay taxes on my earnings.”
This is a story of pursuing the things and people who make you happy despite the odds. It’s a sweet, clean story of dreams coming true.
So incredibly sweet! I have been anticipating Ben and Summer's story since they met in the first book of the series and it did NOT disappoint!
Ben has never had a problem with women not liking him...until he meets Summer. His efforts to impress her and get to know her meet an icy wall but he can't help but be intrigued by the kindness and determination he sees in her.
Summer is not interested in dating right now, especially not someone as charming and flirty as Ben. But as he persists in trying to be her friend and Summer gets to know the real Ben, her heart doesn't stand a chance for long.
What to love: Enemies to Lovers Reverse Grumpy/sunshine He Falls First Hidden Identity Golden Retriever MC Practicing for the play The flirting Dreamy setting The big gesture Summer's cooking Mermaids & pirates Endearing side characters Swoony kissing!! "You are my home."
Such great tension between Ben and Summer from the very beginning! I loved how Ben didn't give up on Summer. He wasn't pushy but let her know through his actions just how much he wanted to be her friend and help her. Is there anything more romantic than that?
Love this entire cast of characters on Marabella Island and I honestly cannot decide whose story I want to read next!! Bodhi? Alana? I will take any and all of them! This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone (but honestly, if you haven't picked up Cam and Riley's story, Are we there Yet?, you need to ASAP!!
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.
What you'll find inside: *Enemies to more *Closed door romance *Reverse Grumpy/sunshine *Continued series, stand alone novel *Forced proximity *
What I loved: • Communication. Summer and Ben communicated well throughout the whole book!! • "Get me a charcuterie board. This man is bringing the cheese!" • The quotes at the beginning of each chapter. • "“Believe me, Monroe. I don’t have to bike across the island to find a victim.”" • "Maybe she’ll make me a sandwich and wash my laundry after this." • "Feisty. Strong-willed. Sassy. I’ve never known how much those qualities would call to me." • "“You bother me, Ben. More than anyone I know.”" • "The wild backside." • "I didn’t know how sexy it could be to watch a man cook." • "He looks like that, has charm to spare, and he can sing." • "All I know now is that Ben is making me feel safer than I’ve felt in months—cared for, maybe even protected." • "I’m going to take every inch she gives me until I’ve gained entrance to every mile" • The metaphor salad • "When Ben loves someone, he loves big."
A Fish Out of Water is the second book in Savannah Scott’s Love Trippin’ series. (The first book being Are We There Yet). As with all of Scott’s books, these can be read together or can be enjoyed as a stand-alone.
A Fish Out of Water was such a cute enemies to lovers, reverse grumpy/sunshine read. I loved the chemistry and connection between our two main characters, Summer and Ben. It’s a feel good story that will have you laughing. This literally put a smile on my face while reading.
I love how Savannah Scott ties characters from her other series together. If you’re a fan of her Getting Shipped series, you will love this one and hearing of past characters!
I’m not even sure how to start… I loved Ben and Summer. I loved the time I “spent” on Marbella Island with them. The imagery in this book was spectacular. I feel like there was an ocean breeze swirling around me the whole time I was reading.
Summer is trying to escape. She wants to make it big in Hollywood and she isn’t afraid to work hard to get there. She is determined not to have any type of relationship. Even forming friendships is difficult because she wants to hold herself back. That doesn’t prevent the people around her from surrounding her with love. Ben wants to come to Marbella Island to work but also to enjoy himself and spend time with his friends. He doesn’t plan on having any type of serious relationship but he cannot stay away from Summer even when she is constantly brushing him off. Will they be able to work out there differences?
I so enjoyed this story and I think you will too! One of my favorite quotes from the book was from Ben. “Listening is an undervalued skill. It’s rare to find a person who can just listen without feeling they have to fix you or share their opinion.” I read this and thought I am so guilty of not always listening! So kick up your feet and enjoy this beautiful story. I cannot wait to read more about the other people I also met while I was in Marbella Island.
Thank you to the author for the ARC copy. All opinions are my own.
'I may not believe in insta-love, but I do believe in someone getting under your skin at first sight. And Summer definitely has gotten under my skin.'
Oh Ben and Summer!
This duo is delightful- there are walls to be broken down, lessons to be learned and trust that needs to grow; but the journey and ending are worth every single hurdle between these two.
I LOVED the flirting. Ben is a level pro flirt. The banter and sarcasm made this book a steady page turner. Summer has every defense up and watching her kick-back to everything Ben tries to say and do made me laugh out loud constantly.
The setting is A+ The romance is level SWOONY The ending is perfection
Read this one for the laughs, the fun and every single heartfelt moment.
This book is available TODAY!!! Grab it now because it's a book and love story you wont want to miss.
Thanks to the author for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.
#teamBummer IYKYK! And if you read A Fish Out of Water, you'll definitely know!!! ;-) And if you don't, you probably can guess that it's a mashup of names. Ben and Summer to be exact!
Oh my heavens, these two are just so fun! Ben sees Summer and he is smitten! He is all in! All in to meet her. All in to try and impress her. All in to open his mouth and stick his foot in it...like BIG TIME stick his foot in his mouth or digging a massive hole. And it was pretty funny. He just can't seem to stop. Even he's telling himself to be quiet and not say another word until something just pops out and inside he's dying of embarrassment, but outside it just keeps coming! Hahahaha! Poor guy! Annnnnd there goes Summer! *smirk*
Summer doesn't have time for distractions. She's got a lot bigger things to worry about. His past finding her. Catching the eye of talent scouts at her stage performance of the play on Marbella Island. She's got big plans and is going to reach them! That Ben character is just someone who keeps popping up everywhere she is. And oh my word! Their interactions are pretty humorous and will have you cheering for these two to get everything figured out and let their banter be geared towards building a relationship.
I loved the group of friends in this book and seeing how they help each other and cheer each other on. I loved the shoutouts to the "Shipped" series in this book. If you haven't read Savannah Scott's "Shipped" series, go do it! This is book #2 in the Love Trippin' series. I haven't read the first book yet but can't wait to soon. If you haven't read book #1 either, no worries, this one reads as a great standalone.
Some of my favorite things in the book are: The Bike Rides The Elephant Seal The Pirate The Beach and Water Visiting Friends The Dance Scene Bumbling Ben Burnt Marshmallows Spicy Curry A Boot Running Lines Practice Kisses And Much, Much More!!!
Dive into this darling book! Warning, you might want a tasty drink and a marshmallow to enjoy while doing so! Just sayin'!!!
Content: Clean. Some very mild peril, some sweet kisses but nothing further. Some family drama. Everything was written very sweet and clean.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Witty dialogue and lovable characters will get me every time and this book is no exception to that rule! She's in hiding while striving to achieve her dreams and he is just living life in the moment. They are complete opposites and she doesn't even like him....or does she! A great rom com to have you giggling for hours as you watch them go from enemies to friends to maybe more, unless her past catches up and smashes their hopes before they can really fly! I also love a good spin off and this book is the second in a series that spins off from this author's "Shipped" series. You don't have to read that series or even the first book in this series in order to enjoy the book, but you would be absolutely, positively missing out as characters and places from the Shipped series are mentioned in this book and the entertainment alone is worth its weight in gold. This author really knows how to write with wit, a bit of snark, a lot of fun and a bit of angst to make the story the complete package! I can't wait to go back and snag the first book in the series and any new ones that come up! If you haven't put this author on your must-read list, well...you really must do so!
A Fish Out of Water is the second book in Savannah Scott's Love Trippin' series. It can be read as a standalone story, but I personally think it is better to read Are We There Yet? first. It is a first person, dual point of view book.
Ben eventually reminded me of a dear friend that I used to have so much fun with. My friend died a few years ago, and this book almost felt like I was getting to spend time with his goofy, yet loveable self, again.
More than just the main characters, I enjoyed the side characters, especially getting to see Cam and Riley again. That's one of my favorite things about series is hanging out with familiar friends we have already made. Not all authors provide this in their series, but I was delighted that was part of this story.
I was given an advanced digital copy of the book and am happily leaving an honest review.
I knew I was going to love this book! Ben is so happy and so full of fun. Persistent but patient. Sweet. I adore him. He's one of my favorite MC's. I love the setting, old friends, new friends. Such a fun book!
You know the book was amazing when you managed to read all 439 pages in less than 24 hours! Savannah Scott does it to me every…single…time.
Summer is an aspiring actress currently working guest services on Marbella Island off the coast of California. She’s perfecting her acting skills while starring as a mermaid at the island’s local theater. What she didn’t expect was to have her focus jolted by the charming and charismatic Ben – who just took a job in Marbella as a watersport instructor. Ben is fun and flirty and quite honestly his personality does NOT sit well with Summer. She blows him off time and time again. He sees something special in Summer that intrigues him. She’s not like other girls and he wholeheartedly accepts the challenge he’s been presented with in winning her over.
Summer has Ben pinned as a “player”, but as you read through, you’re going to realize that his charm absolutely doesn’t equate to being a womanizer or anything of the sort. He’s a goofball, but he’s a harmless one. He’s an absolute romantic who dreams of having a family. He is 100% devoted to his best friend, Cam…he loves his parents and wants to live life to the fullest. Ben is going to melt your heart. He’s probably one of my all-time favorite RomCom characters TBH.
There’s a HUGE secret that Summer is keeping about her life, so you’ll quickly be turning pages to see how that all unfolds. I laughed and yes, even shed a few tears. Something about this Love Trippin’ series just hits me differently. The characters being in their early 20s and watching them embark on new life adventures has me feeling extra sappy and sentimental. As I’m reading, I keep thinking how it feels like JUST yesterday I was their age. My how time flies. And then the reality hits that my oldest son is about this age and embarking on his life journey…starting that new chapter into adulthood…job…love, etc. It’s just been an amazing book series for me.

Summer, an aspiring actress, is working on Marbella Island while she waits for her big break. Nothing can distract her from her goals except Ben, the handsome watersports instructor who is desperate to win her over.
A Fish Out of Water is the second book in the Love Trippin’ series. While it could be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading book one (Are We There Yet?) first. This enemies to more romance contains some mild innuendo but nothing spicy.
Of all of Savannah Scott’s romances, A Fish Out of Water is my new favorite. There’s something about Ben’s determined, golden retriever personality that just won me over. He was not willing to let the less than flattering first meeting between him and Summer ruin everything. He knows she’s the one for him. While he does what he can to earn her friendship, he doesn’t force the situation. I like the way that Summer’s past is built into the progression of the storyline. Readers find out her history organically and at roughly the same time as her friends.
The epilogue is a nice little treat for those who have read the author’s Getting Shipped series. I love the way that this new series is shaping up and I hope to see more of Summer and Ben in future books.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“Mercy. That man could melt butter with his smile.”
I enjoyed this fun reverse grump and sunshine story set on a California resort island! I loved Ben in book one and it was so fun reading his story!
Oh how Summer hates him, and he’s not used to that one bit! He tries to win her over which only makes her hate him more! Cue a wonderful enemies to more story that’ll have you smiling, laughing and swooning.
Oh Ben! I love him! He’s just so charismatic, sweet and fun! I also loved getting to know and understand Summer. Their slow burn romance is so sweet. I also loved the side characters and the returning characters so much!
Read for: 🤍dreamy setting 🤍reverse grump and sunshine 🤍that forced proximity though 🤍A pirate and a mermaid 🤍laugh out loud scenes and pop culture references 🤍Seeing Cam, Riley and Mads again 🤍new characters to love 🤍Lots of swoony kisses
Ben and Summer will take you on an adventure starting from enemies, to the sweetest happy ending. This book was very romantic and fun with lots of kisses for all of the ‘kissing book’ lovers out there. If you enjoy sweet Romcoms, I think you’ll enjoy Ben and Summer’s story.
Content: mentions infidelity, kisses only, very mild innuendo
Where to begin with this Enemies to More, Romantic Comedy masterpiece. All I can say is that Ben is perhaps one of the sweetest MMCs I’ve ever read in a story. He is like a ray of sunshine and tries to brighten everyone’s day. Except Summer, who tends to stay away from charmers with good reason, so her first instinct is to stay far, far away from Ben. The problem with that is their mutual attraction and Bens resilience. Ben is determined to get Summer to like him, and with that comes so many hilarious, laugh out loud moments. It's beautiful when Summer finally opens up and gives Ben the chance we all were rooting for. I love how strong their relationship is and how they actually communicate and are so understanding of each other. This was a book that I couldn’t put down, and when I finished, I wanted to pick it back up and start all over again. Savannah Scott writes another amazing swoon worthy romcom that is a must-read read!
The second book in a new series (although a spinoff from the Getting Shipped series) follows Summer and Ben as they get to know each other while working at their resort jobs.
Ben didn’t make the best first impression with Summer, so he’s working hard to turn things around. Summer isn’t sure she even wants to be in a relationship, and she has some secrets she’s keeping to protect herself.
Cute closed-door romcom. Can be read as a stand-alone. Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Watch for A Fish Out of Water to come out November 13, 2023.
Summer moved to Marblea Island to work at the resort while pursing her acting career. Ben moved there following his best friend, but finding out that his calling is to work with people and water sports. Summer meets Ben and immediately does not care for him. He is definitely attractive, but Summer determines he is a player from his first pickup line. He spends a long time trying to get Summer to give him the time of day ad even goes as far as to fill in for the male lead in the play when he gets hurt. Will this action finally win Summer over?
Savannah Scott is the queen of clean romcoms. I am always laughing at everyone of her books and A Fish Out of Water is no exception. Ben has such golden retriever energy and Summer had to fight hard to not give him the time of day. I loved how Ben worked so hard to show her that he was not like other guys and that he truly wanted her. I also loved how he defended her and went to bat for her against her own father who was terrible. The side characters are great of course and I can’t wait to see what is next in this series.
Beautiful island setting, reverse grumpy/sunshine, enemies to lovers, and classic movie references all in one delightful romcom! Savannah Scott really knows how to bring the charm and wit along with a heartfelt, closed door romance. After reading Are We There Yet?, I couldn’t wait for Ben’s story. He’s a lovable, goofy, handsome, golden retriever type who can charm any woman. Well, any woman, except Summer. Summer took one look at gorgeous Ben, heard one cheesy pick up line, and she was outta there.
Despite Ben showing up wherever she is and turning on said charm, she’ll have none of it. After being truly disappointed by one charming man, the last thing she needs is to be heartbroken by another. Little by little though, Ben brings a bit of sunshine and enjoyment to her life she’s missed. As she gets to know him she finds there’s a loyal, caring, do-anything-for-you guy underneath the one liners. With her goal of making it big in Hollywood within reach, will she give Ben a chance?
I loved this story! The setting was gorgeous. I could see the crystal blue water, feel the warm ocean breezes, and picture the beautiful resort and beaches. It was a fun escape when you’re in the beginnings of winter. I loved Summer and Ben. Summer was hard to like at first, but as the layers are peeled back and you find out the reasons for her distrust, she becomes a character you really want to cheer for. Ben is just a sweetheart through and through. He’s easygoing, kind, persistent in a good way, and tends to stick his foot in his mouth whenever he’s around Summer. They’re the perfect match! I love how he calls her Monroe.
I also loved the Pirate and Mermaid play, the wild ride with Phyllis, bike rides, spicy curry, and all the references to classic Hollywood movies. I loved the side characters as well. It was fun seeing Cam & Riley again and getting to know new characters Bodhi and Alana. I especially loved Summer’s friend Marissa. She’s hilarious and Ben’s number one fangirl.
Highly recommend this fun, funny, sweet romcom! Though it’s the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. It’s more enjoyable if you’ve read the first book in the Love Trippin’ series and are familiar with the Getting Shipped series that it’s a spinoff from. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author but also purchased a copy through KU. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
“I am boldly relentless when I pursue something I want.”
And what Ben wants with a passion is Summer, but after a hilarious meet-awkward, she is dead set on keeping him at arm’s length.
Ben is absolutely smitten, and he’s not about to give up the chase! After some time together, and when he’s hurt in an accident, Summer realizes she may have been wrong about him after all.
I absolutely loved everything about this book! I’ve read several books by Savannah Scott, and I think this is her best one yet.
There were so many lines that had me laughing out loud, or that sank right into my heart with their sweetness and profundity.
I rarely cry over books, and especially not romcoms, but the ending had me in tears—the happy kind. It was the sweetest conclusion to this fabulous story!
Savannah certainly knows how to write characters that you can’t help fall for and root for the entire book, and Ben and Summer’s story was one that I was completely invested in and charmed by!
Things I loved: 🌴 Ben’s personality 🌴 He falls first and falls hard 🌴 Summer’s sass and strength 🌴 Great banter and flirting 🌴 Practice kisses 🌴 Clean read 🌴 Couple name—Bummer 🌴 Island life 🌴 Grand gesture 🌴 Cam and Riley’s wedding 🌴 HEA
This is the second book in the Love Trippin' Series and can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the first book beforehand.
Oh be still my heart! This book was *chefs kiss* We knew from the minute Summer & Ben met in Are We There Yet, that Summer was going to give Ben a run for his money!
And boy did she ever! She was a hard nut to crack, with so many walls and an icy persona Summer did not trust easily. But once she did…she gave it her all! She had valid reasons for putting up guards and being a bit unsure of Ben’s “type”. But his consistency in SEEING her was the game changer!
Ben was such an easy going guy! He’s charismatic, and charming, and just a fun dude. Serious golden retriever energy (and I’m hhheeerreee for it!!!) He knew how to work a room, but never in a slimy weasel way! He just made everyone feel good. His “unruffableness” (not a word, but we’re making it one) was one of my favorite things about him. He was strong, steady, loyal, heartfelt, self confident but not conceited. Just all in all a GOOD GUY!
I loved watching Ben’s pursuit of Summer, even when it felt futile. But once they were in it, they were it for each other and I loved their love! It shouldn’t have worked on paper, but it did!
The scenes with Ben & Cameron were the best because though life changed a bit the true heart was still there! I loved being introduced to more people on the island. I feel like we’re really getting “island life” now!
Marissa was a HOOOOOOTTTT! She was definitely one of my favorite side characters, and I hope she makes more cameos periodically.
The play was such a fun added bonus! We got our pirate/mermaid romance! I just really loved this story! And I love this island, these people…I cannot wait to be back! 5/5 stars
*I received this book from the author**All opinions are my own*
Summer dream is to be one an actress but well, she would have to be content for now with a little role as a Mermaid in the show In so deep in Marbella island,, he place she has just arrived to start fresh.. But then she meets Ben, a gourgeous blondie with amazing eyes but a big mouth, stopping all expectations Summer could have had about him. He seems like the typical player and Summer is not going to settle with a man like him, so he decides to stay far from him. What she doesnt exoect is to find him everywhere she is at aound the island. And now is he also playing the role of Pirate in her show?? No, no, no. She has to keep her distance. But how she can do It when he is oh so charming and tries to rip every wall Summer has built in order to protect herself of his charms?
The second book in the Love trippin' series, A fish out of water is a great lecture, a coming of age story, with two different persons that find out that maybe if they let each other let in , they would not be as out of the wáter as they think and that they are just perfect together .I have enjoyed this book a lot. The summer setting is just great the chemistry amazing, and the characters so lovable. Cant wait for the next in the series!
✨Ben is the handsome, charming, harmless flirt, Californian surfer boy. Summer is the gorgeous, aspiring actress, kind hearted beauty who wants to avoid charmers, like Ben! Ben’s cheesy lines are not the best first impression and like Summer we also wonder if he is just another flirt bad boy! But, we discover he has a heart of gold and is a great guy. Just what Summer needs.
✨There are so many great things about this book. The characters, not just the leads, are all so loveable. The way Savannah describes each and every moment in the book, you just get immersed in it. From their meet cute to their run-ins at the C-side cafe, play acting together for the great island play, everything is so natural. The play which Summer is taking part in, is the story of a mermaid and a pirate, which kind of runs parallel to theirs. It is a closed door romance but moments between Ben & Summer are beautifully penned by Savannah. Also, not to miss, there are great laugh out loud moments during their banter!
✨For me personally the highlight of the book is Ben. He is so fun and flirty but still a caring, loving guy. As the story progresses he not only wins Summer’s heart, but ours too! ❤️
✨The bonus is of course the beautiful chapter headings. The quotes in every chapter heading are so apt to the story. They themselves are worth so much!
✨I could go on, but I would recommend to read this book and go on a trip to Marbella island, and join Team #Bummer!
3.5 stars rounded up I love Savannah's comedic relief in her rom-coms! It's one of the best in my opinion even if it is cheesy because I find I cackle at it all. I liked this story for what it was and the romance was cute once you got to it. I will say that this was a bit too long for my taste and I slogged through the middle. The enemies part got it bit much with Summer and her reasoning, although you understand the more you go, was still a bit immature for me. I also felt like the conflict added with her dad wasn't really resolved and wrapped up too easily for how strong it was for a while. Definitely cute but not my favorite. I still love the author's writing and will still read her books.
I loved the enemies to more vibes, the way Ben was so out of his depth, Summer’s character development, and the setting. It was great to see past characters, too!
Read this one for the enemies to more, fish out of water, island vibes, and of course, if you love Savannah Scott.
I highly recommend it.
Thank you, Savannah, for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
This was such a cute romance! Ben has never had a problem with girls liking him, until he meets Summer. The moment he meet her he was drawn to her. Unfortunately for him, he’s gonna have to work for this one. Summer is not having his charming ways. After being hurt by a player before, she has no interest in dating anyone at the moment. Good thing Ben is persistent but not pushy.
This was such a cute book. While it is a closed door romance, there are some swoon worthy kisses. Such a great story of finding your people/ home and not giving up on your dreams. I adored these characters on Marabella Island and I can’t wait to read about the rest of them!
While this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. This book launches on Nov 13, 2023 so be sure to add to your TBR list!
Thank you to NetGalley for my arc copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This book is the first I have read by Savannah Scott and I am now most definitely sure it won't be my last. This book was everything I needed for a fresh read, it's got the enemies (kind of) to lovers, great friendships and hidden family secrets.
I really enjoyed reading the banter and the relationship between Ben and Summer grow, Ben is super carefree, charming and gorgeous (he knows it!) and Summer is his opposite.
This book had me smiling and laughing all the way through and I really can't wait to read the rest of the series!
Some tropes; - enemies to lovers - forced proximity - closed door romance
This is an adorable, love story! The silly side characters, fun-loving Ben and mysterious Summer make for a wonderful reading experience! Ben has a serious crush on Summer. Summer is just not interested. She’s focused on her career and Not in charmers or flirts! But Ben is patient. He shows Summer he really has a heart of gold and will stand by her side no matter what life throws at her. Scott is one of my favorite romcom authors. If you like a sweet, clean fun and Swoony Romance You should really check out this book and all of savannas other books!
I know there is an audience out here who will absolutely love this and maybe I just wasn’t in the mood, but I struggled a lot with the first half of this book. I honestly considered DNF’ing it at 25%. I struggle with stubborn characters, so the FMC was a challenge for me until she started opening up. My biggest issue is that she (in referring to her co-lead Jeremy) said “I don’t typically judge people based on their first impressions”, yet that’s exactly what she did to Ben, the MMC. I couldn’t get past that for a long time. Once things went from enemies to friends, it was more doable. The story was cute and I like how the ending rounds out. I also appreciated that there was no miscommunication trope and no internal threat to the relationship. I would say I’m sitting between 3-3.5 stars on this one.
